Did you have your phone plugged in to a USB charger at the time? Was it the stock charger?
no, it doesnt happen jus when its chargin, it happens randomly, an no its not a stock charger, but i dont see what that would have to do with the screen goin crazy pushing everythin

Well, I would suggest that you try reverting back to using the stock charger for a few days and see if that helps. Using other chargers (esp from ebay) can cause similar effects on the Milestone/Droid due to voltage variances.
ill give it a try, an let you know what happens, thing is i bought the phone alone with no stock charger, so im gonna have to check on ebay for a stock one, but thanks again

Well, try buying a stock one from an authorized Motorola dealer. Every since I purchased one on ebay, I always make sure my Moto chargers come in a sealed, hard plastic, package in attempt to improve authenticity (However, I'm not sure how much that buys me).
Good luck.
I get this same issue.
Unplugged or not, on various roms from stock to motofrenzy.
sometimes the screen will just become really crazy.
If i open a webpage and just hold my finger on the screen in one place it will zoom in scroll up and down, all sorts.
I verified what was happening by downloading Multitouch visualiser 2 from the Market.
A reboot always fixes the problem
Its kinda frustrating, because i know that Moto just direct you to the place of purchase and i was not the original purchaser, so i have no chance of a warranty repair.
yeah ive tried everything, its driving me up the wall, its been like this for the last 30 hours,an i cant even use the phone, this is the worst it been, it usually goes away after 5 to 6 hours , but now its jus gone crazy, an ive restarted an removed the battery countless of times
but burko, are you using a sock wall charger or a ebay or differant brand wall charger.thanks

could you tell me how much the out put of volts an amps the motorola milestone wall charger is, thanks
I actually use a BlackBerry charger, as i assumed Micro-Usb would be the same for all manufactures, but as above, it does start the screen going mad, as soon as i unplug it, it stops!
Ill see if i can make it go mad without being plugged in!
Good shout Knowthenazz!
That happened with me, when the temperature degree outside is very high, I live in region the degree reach to 48degree, my phone screen goes crazy, so I think your charger make your phone very hot, so the sensitivity of your screen begin not work properly. I'm note sure, just want to share my idea.
Thanks,
well its been about 4-5 days already, an my phones touch screen still goin crazy, i thought maybe id go back, like the other times, but this time seems permanent an its extremely depressing thinkin about it cus i jus got it like a week and a half ago off a guy.ive tried countless of chargers, even my bros motorola backflip charger, an nothin. so im gonna assume its permanently gone. i would switch the digitizer but thats gonna cost money an might jus lose the entire phone, so im jus gonna throw it back on ebay an go back to my htc hero an jus wait for the milestone 2 to come out. but if anyone does find a solution please post it here. thx everyone R.I.P. All chargers using the micro USB spec should be the exact same voltage (and different current ratings depending on the charger, although different current values shouldn't affect your screen at all). I suspect that the voltages are very close, if not generally the same, but, the voltage may slightly fluctuate (or ripple) over time, which I believe may be causing the issue. The better quality the charger, the more constant the voltage.
If I were you I'd purchase an authentic Motorola Micro USB charger, and call it a day.

Not sure if this is true, but, I heard that most Motorola chargers work on Blackberry units, but, the converse isn't always the case.
well its been about a week and a half an the crazy screen thing finally stopped, i used my friends motorola backflip charger, an seems like evrything is back to normal, but now the "back" button does not work, an it really is a verry important button, so im jus hopin time will fix that button too

Glad things are returning back to normal for you with regards to the screen.
Not sure what's going on with your back button though. Hope it works itself out for you.

Go to a service center asap!
Dude, use your warranty. Take it to a service center.
Mine happened the same, and I decided to send it back to motorola and just got it back yesterday.
They replaced the glass screen and the frame which surrounds the glass.
It seems they removed that plastic from behind the screen on the slider, or also replaced the slider module.
I'd guess it might be a known issue for motorola, because my phone had scratches on the glass, plus a small crack on the screen ( yeah, I know, it's gorilla glass, but I'm an orc with mobiles ), the metal frame was all dented, and they replaced it anyway, when they could just said "this is misuse, it's failing because you drop it several times, go buy another one"
I already had this issue a few months before, it got better and I decided to keep on, and then it started again and got unusable, so don't get excited about it getting better, because probably will eventually start failing again.

Hey guys,
Thinking about pulling the trigger on a NC, but I don't want to pay $200-$300 as I already have a Nexus S and a Nexus 1. The NC is planned to be used for light Internet browsing. I found two "broken" NCs on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/160605400390 (Edit: Description for this one says "Lines on screen")
http://cgi.ebay.com/160605383436
The listing are ending soon, but I'm afraid to pull the trigger. I dunno what could cause these units to be broken besides:
1) Battery drain/issues
2) Water damage
3) Main component damage
3.1) Video issues (added)
The XDA part of my brain is telling me that the guy is selling it because of a bad flash but...if he's smart enough to flash, he's smart enough to read XDA and fix it. Plus, I hear NCs are pretty much unbrickable.
So, what do you think? Has anyone encountered things like this before? Should I pull the trigger?
Thanks!
Why don't you ask him what is not working? NC is unbrickable (software talking) but probably they have hardware problems.
I shot the seller a question before I posted this topic, but the NCs don't look damaged. (from the outside anyway) Just figured I'd poke my head in and ask around. I'll await a response and let you all know.
See edit above on the OP.
Have you ever bought a broken used car? And the guys says "O.. only this and that is broken" then you find out its even worse then what he said. And your no mechanic. Just my two cents I've made those kind of mistakes before... its not worth it. Especially if your no "mechanic".

I bought a broken one off eBay for a project that didn't really need the screen to work. Outside of the fact that it looked like a wolverine went crazy on the back and corners, the screen looked ok when turned off. But when you turn it on, the screen goes all white except for a few lines across the middle that appear to be displaying the UI.
Not a problem for me, but you might want to pass on these.

Already did. How'd your project go with the other NC?
It seems I have a hardware issue as right after installing a nightly CM9, it seemed to be working fiine when I went to install a simple batery level mod and I got the "UI has stopped working" warning and when I went to reboot to reflash the OS, it suddenly displayed the BSOD (with tightly spaced black thin lines) and now NOTHING I've tried will get it to respond.
I've done all the button push combos, plugged it into the computer, left it on charge overnight....nothing...absolutely nothing.
This was a very stable TP before this episode.
So after diagnosing it with an HP chat session...and volunteering the CM9 install, of course my warranty is void and they want $235 to repair it...I could replace it cheaper.
So, any independants doing repairs on these yet? Preferably in the midwest.
I don't think they'd repair it anyway if you sent it in (even if warranty is still on) because it has a 3rd party OS on it. You may just get it returned in the mail despite them knowing it beforehand.
I bricked my Nook Color running CM7 after installing a battery app. from the market before, and someone warned me against them here on XDA saying this is not uncommon.
Now I try to avoid installing any now on my TP and just use the built in battery reader. With my Nook, I did manage to unbrick it via button reset combos. Hope you sort it out with your TP.
Tried webos doctor? I have seen it fix this.

There is a guy on webosnation.com who repairs Touchpad.
Try this forum (I dont remember his name): http://forums.webosnation.com/hp-touchpad/
might be helpful, ive recovered a few "completely bricked" Tp's to perfect factory condition, it might look confusing/overwhelming, but its easier than it looks, and better than paying someone to fix it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1564938
My problem is that my TP doesn't show the 1st sign of life....nothing....

to me it sounds like either a "hard" soft-brick, or a definate hardware failure.
the TP cant be hard bricked at all, its the best feature about it and can always be recovered with a little elbow grease and carpel tunnel
as for the hardware failure, if the TP is under warranty still, HP will fix the issue or send you a refurb, but at a hefty price...and the problem with sending it to a user to fix is that they might not be able to find/resolve the problem, and you'll still have to go back to HP or move on to a new tablet and sell the TP for parts...
now as for recovering it yourself, have you done any testing to see if you can get the hardware to detect on PC by hearing the "usb connected" sound? there are 3 methods to try this, 1 is just plugging in and hard resetting, the other is to go to the regular download mode, and the last is the dev download mode (i cant remember how to do that one again, you might have to search for it)
if either of these give you the usb connected sound, even for a second, then you are in luck and its just a soft brick which is recoverable.
if not, try to "charge" for a few hours, repeat the test and see if it yields any results. if not, then its a hardware failure, and the smartest bet is to send to HP for repair/refurb
If it is hardware bricked, try seeing if they will accept it back under warranty without telling them about the different OS (unless you already gave them all your info). They may be able to recover it or replace it without knowing. If they find it and want that price, then tell then to shove it and find another.
The chance that they will not discover the OS is pretty good if it is hardware bricked, so absent another good alternative - give it a try.
unfortunately, one look at the partition table, and HP will send it right back, no follow up investigation whatsoever, and include a memo stating price to repair a "voided-warranty" touchpad
i know it sucks, but thats the price we pay (pun unintentional/intended) for quality aftermarket OS's beyond the scope of support
EDIT** Doug, any luck?
No luck...am currently looking for a cheap broken screen TP for parts.....and am guessing I need the logic board.
In the mean time, I bought an Asus TF300T tablet....nice

hahaha id stop looking, thats a fantastic replacement!
and it sucks that the TP died, its a decent quick use tablet, but it is one of those literal "you get what you pay for" products
I would still sent it in.
If it is so badly bricked that they cannot activate it enough to see anything - you should get a replacement. Otherwise, you should have the option of them shipping it back - unless you just want to forgetaboutit at that point.
Found a parts TP on eBay...so now when it and the tools I ordered arrive..we'll see how "fixable" it may be

unbelieveably fixable (youll love the size of the battery ), the worst part is the reassembly of the screen with the rubber gromit/gasket that goes around it, what a niusance!

i dont know about that. I think you get a bit more than you pay for. I would say it's worth about 250 (w/ android) considering a smaller and less specced kindle sells for 200.

that really depends on the users needs, especially if the require fully working camera, bt etc. and full H/W accel video (and proper manuf. support/updates)
the touchpad is an excellent "fun" tablet to muck about with, and an amazing cheap tablet (i still use webOS once in a while too! ), but if you need something reliable, lightweight, and fully supported, then any of the big 5 are an excellent choice for that.
having said that, i 100% agree with you (especially if purchased on firesale) the TP is prolly the only current/next gen tablet ill ever own anyway because it does everything that i need in a tablet and then some
EDIT** and when i said "you get what you pay for" i literally meant you buy it, its yours, and it is what it is unless you are willing to take the risk (no real support from HP)
WOW...^^ I fixed it!! I was waiting (still am ) for a parts TP I bought from eBay and thought I'd try just putting it all back together...(I'd taken it apart awaiting the parts)...and I'll be damned it came back on and has been fine!!
My guess is that the charging circuit in these things is ultra sensitive and demanding of it's own proccess. I still am not sure why mine glitched and died, but simply removing the battery for a period of time and reinstalling it seemed to fix the problem. Battery was at 35% when it awoke...when it died it was around 85%.
Thanks for all the ideas and help......now if I could just get my $$ or the TP from eBay (it's been 11 days) I'd be even happier.....
I see a thread in China Forum that report Nexus 7 burn out when charge overnight.
I suggest the author of this thread to report local ASUS and claim for free exchange if it is factory defect.
Original thread here (http://tieba.baidu.com/p/1903068351) and you can just check the photos of dead Nexus 7.
Before everyone gets cared, in most cases this has to do with a malfunctioning adapter giving too much power to the tablet.
So I guess he was unlucky with a malfunctioning charger or using a chinese 3th party charger which also explains quite a bit.
In the prictures you see in the link, the problem started at the accu entry which also shows that it had to do with overpowering.
So I suggest to prevent using custom 3th party power adapters or your tablet migth end up like that, still a rare case since the power it had to get should normally already burned away the power cable itself before it even charges the tablet :/
But the problem also might be in the accu itself which means you just can suddely get a burned out tablet yourself
Anyway we'll hear more about it when teher are more cases if there aren't any more cases of burned nexus 7's I guess the problem wasn't that big and just a single fabrication malfunction in the tablet, power adapter or 3th party power adapter.
WOW! What a horrific sight. I really hope this is an isolated case related to a bad home electrical grid.
But since it's the only case, I guess it is.
I'd say the fault is in the battery. I'cant see the charge control IC failing and allowing over voltage/current through to the battery. The SMB 347 claims to have:
Status/fault indicator
Battery/IC thermal protection
Short circuit/UV/OV protection
Charge termination safety timers
I would cry if I woke to my nexus looking like that
Author claim that he use original ASUS Adapter.
Anyway, I advise him to report to local ASUS and investigate the reason. If it is factory fault then he can get the replacement. BUT, I hope it is just isolated case too.
I will follow this thread since I am Taiwanese and can read that thread.

I will soon as I get done putting it through the dousing it with kerosene, setting it on fire and having it wrestle a bear test.
Was the tablet rooted and severely overclocked? That could cause overheating too.
Too much OC!!!
Scary images no doubt
this could be related to those who have had there nexus 7 make a hissing sound then stop Functioning.. So i wonder if this is just the first unlucky person..I so hope its isolated case. Nobody Needs a fire in there home.. I never charge my devices over night never leave any type of electronics that use a transformer cable plugged in...
I hope that asus steps up and replaces this and checks to insure this is not going to happen to someone else...
Buy a Nexus 7, get a smoke-detector free? Lol!
I shouldn't be kidding around. I just bought a Nexus 7 last week.

Ah, makes sense. Good thing I didn't root mine, I simply unlocked with iTunes on Linux
In all seriousness though, I too hope this is isolated. Would rather not want my Nexus 7 to inevitably do this at some point...
I thiks it's the same like the story with S3 - burned in the microwave to make a scandal.
Followup: Asus China promise to replace the unit
The author said that China Asus has promised to replace one new N7 within 2 weeks. ASUS mau investigate this damaged unit to find out the fact.
Oh dear, I don't know what Id do if I woke up to that, that is horrific.
I hope this is isolated and doesn't start happening to others.
Also I would like to know the setup of his tab, Overclock, Root, What apps he was using, how he was using his tab, how he was charging it, was his wall port dirty (not actual dirt the term "Dirt") etc
Ok, so as the title says, I have a nexus 7 16gb 2012 model with a broken screen. I purchased a 2$ OTG Cable online and bam it works, plugged in my logitch wireless mouse and a little cursor popped up took me forever to get the key board to pop up but it involved pushing Swype to it and manually setting it up lol... So is totally working, other than the touch screen of course.
I was hoping to eventually fix the touch screen, but the charging port works 100% of the time with the ITG cable, but when it comes to charging it, it can be a pain. I have tried multiple chargers and finally found one that works when I'm nice to it lmao.
So I guess my point is, I want to fix the screen and the charge port at a reasonable cost. I see fellow XDA'ers buying the 32GB 2013 model for 100$ so I don't really want to spend more than 30$ to 50$ :-\ Can anyone help me in my search for parts and tools and I'll be forever grateful and appreciative for your help
Thanks a bunch

Sorry i cant post links yet....but Go to Amazon
My key words for search were screen ;digitizer. Change keywords up to get different results. I saw one not very long ago, a full replacement for $43.
Also check out some websites that cater to repairs. The one i like is iFixit. c o m, very good tuts. BTW, the nexus is probably the easy to fix out of any i ever pulled apart.
Just dont rush fixing it, take your time. Make sure your connections are nice and secure.
Hope this helps, if so please hit thanks.
Good luck and happy repairing.
