Hello everyone,
New to the forum, so please excuse me if this is a foolish question, but: From what I read, upgrading to the developers copy of Marshmallow provided by sony causes camera & modem to become non-operational because Sony has not released the drivers for these components. Is this correct, or am I reading posts from people who don't know what they're talking about? Is there any reason this wouldn't be included in the Marshmallow binaries download they provided? If this data is correct, do they intend to release them in the future?
Thanks

I cannot speak to what sony will do in the future but currently there is no modem/camera from my understanding either.
You can read through the full thread on the issue here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/orig-development/sony-xperia-devices-project-t3178609
@jerpelea is part of the freexperia project so pretty much anything he says on the topic should be correct as he is one of the people who helps manage the sony aosp repos
This was his last comment on the issue:

Sorry I'm a little noobish when it comes to Androids (trying to come over from an iPhone).
I understand rooting. But... Can you tell me advantages/disadvantages of all these ROMS? Do some have the latest radio firwmare and some don't? I thought I read I could also modify these ROMs as well. I would appreciate some insight. Thanks

You can do anything. If you read the forums you will learn a lot more than any 1 person here could ever teach you in one post. Happy reading.
P.s. posts like this are frowned upon around where when you could have searched.
ROMs are just modified versions of the standard firmware the developers that make them bundle certain apps with them and make some slight changes. IIRC they are all rooted.
I think the radio firmware can be updated seperatly as i downloaded the HTC radio directly from the HTC website.
There is a thread here that tries to chart the differences between builds (the name "rom" is kind of a misnomer).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517506
Also, for community ("hacked"/"rooted") builds, they generally don't include the radio. You would update the radio and bootloader separately. The official builds tend to include radio and or bootloader updates.
http://allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5692
This should help you out with any information on Firmwares, its alot better then a stupid chart.
Just do yourself a favor.. Do not Flash before you read the entire thread. Because you may find your new G1 is a brick.
If you want something or want to upgrade SPL or Recovery or Rom Make sure you competely read the thread you may find that other users that have previously flashed that particular item will give feedback.

that link also links to the same "stupid" chart. btw that chart is great for deciding which build suits your needs the best
I was sorta kindling.....
My thread has all the information and MORE. The chart is helpful but you can't get any helpful links with it. My thread has information/my thoughts/ and updates on how to find the newest firmware.
*slaps himself in the back of the head
Im sorry but I Didnt see a thread dedicated to this feature. I apologize in advance if this has been covered elsewhere.
Y!S
All roms are flashed via CWM unless they say to do it differently in their thread. CM7 is about the only one that's not done this way.
Nobody gives install instructions anymore since it should be common knowledge if you did your research.
Also, this is NOT a development question. We have a Q&A section for these types of questions.
all custom roms come with CWM built into the kernel.
once you have a custom rom you DONT USE rom manager anymore.
also this is the DEVELOPMENT section.
DO NOT POST QUESTIONS HERE!!!
questions go in Q&A

you guys are misunderstanding his question, ROM manager is capable of sending out OTA's for individual ROM's if the ROM creator implements this feature. as far as I know, there are yet to be any ROM's that use this in the Captivate section, though please tell me if I'm wrong. CM7 will use this feature once it's capable of using ROM manager through a properly functioning param.ko
as for you two, no need to be so aggressive/rude. you didn't answer his question properly and were a bit extreme in your judgment toward him. but as for you OP, they are correct in that this isn't truly related to development and is more suited to "General" or "Q&A" from now on.
my point was nobody uses rom manager after stock anymore.
if someone cant properly post, they wont get a full complete answer

Hey TRusselo you have gone beyond making it known that I posted in the wrong section but no matter how I look at your answers you still come across as a big fat jerk. There isnt any need whatsoever for you to post that.. and then to come back and repeat yourself with another entry saying the SAME thing and MAINTAINING the attitude.. you got my attention.
Kaik541 did answer my question. I was wondering if any devs have used this feature in rom manager. For over the air updates.
As to the reason why I posted in the DEVs section was because i thought that it was a development question. ROMS updated over the air thru ROM MANAGER is implemented by DEVELOPERS. It stands to reason why i have not seen any notes in any DEVELOPERS release and that is apparently no DEVELOPERS are using this feature. I hope that I made it understood as to WHY I posted in the dev section. I am now more familiar with the rules so I do beg your pardon for posting in the wrong place.
Nightly builds that can be updated over the air seems like it would really be something that a DEV would utilize with all the tweeks contently done to these roms. I for one look forward to having such a useful tool.

Nightly builds aren't considered updates. They are made so the flash happy people have something else to play with and test for the devs. They aren't meant for everyone to use as DD's. Utilizing this feature for nightlie's would end up with TONS of questions from newbs that don't know how to fix what they just did.
This has been brought up a few times and to be honest with all the possible issues that could come across from OTA updates like flashing a bad file cause you lost connection for a split sec and didn't notice, I wouldn't use it. The first att OTA update proved this. Thousands of bricks, then it was released by Kris update. Alot less bricks.
hello i heard from someone that we can flash kernels directly with our phones without using a flashtool , is that even possible ??!!!
OK, here goes,
If you heard that from another phone sub-forum, then yes your corretc, but if you heard it from this sub-foum, then no, its not possible
There was a discussion about it not long ago (i even joined the party ) but it was just a general discussion about it, and maybe in the near future it will happen, but for now, we are stuck with flashtool
what you heard about, was flashing kernel with ROM package via ClockWorkMod (CWM). hopefully, it will be possible but for now, im afraid not, but stay tunned for future
oh thx for your great and detailed explanation i think i'm not the only one who hope something like that to happen afterall

-AOSP is android open source code, just search it in google.
-Yuga is the device name used by developers for the Xperia Z.
-Alpha is a the state of the ROM, it means that is in its first builds. After that cames beta and stable builds. That means that everything is working, but there may be some bugs.
-And when? Don't ask for ETA, it will come as soon as developers can. You can always donate, that probably will help.
I think you have better read something about Android, ROMs, recovery, flashtools, DRM keys, TA backup, adb, android sdk...
And read main forums about Xperia Z in XDA, there is plenty of info. And read all post before asking, probably someone has already posted the same question

The threads closed because ( most likely ) the devs didnt have enough time. Not sure if they are going to open again.
PS: XZ is a quite old device thats why there are not many MM builds
PS2: Didnt get the one with the earpiece ?_?

This is the earpiece issue here it's pretty common to Xperia users I have read in few webs
Anyway I don't think there's something problem with being old (S2 has official nightlies and it's damn old) cz as u can see in cm13 thread it says closed on qsnc's request can we pm the op in this thread???
I got it y it's closed perhaps it's because the camera currently needs working and cm devs follow a standard (I don't know) according to which they can't release builds that don't offers all the basic hardware function working so I guess it will be surely back when camera is functioning
Still be happy if someone confirms that if it's the only reason
this thread will be closed one this is confirmed.
(since it's general so I think I can post that)
Btw I felt bad for devs working for yuga poor guys posting it so many times that it's devdb and at the end what they get multirom not working I can't flash further support I think that's also the reason there's no mm yet yuga if noobs are reading then plz let the devs live they are humans they don't get paid for it they are doing it for fun they are humans they have life (I even wanted to be rude but it's xda)
Thanks devs if u reading it
