Is your bootloader locked or unlocked?
If locked you can use kingroot to get root access and install xz dual recovery. Xzdr offer cwm and twrp as custom recovery.
With Xposed framework you can modify the framework of your phone and add new functions Sony doesn't offer.

Bootloader is locked.
I have heard that unlocking bootloader messes up with DRM keys and BIONZ.
That's why i am being cautious.

So as I understand it, you can't root without unlocking boatloader, and if you do that then you lose the bravia engine among other things. So Will this always be the case?
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z using Tapatalk 2!
Is it or will it ever be possible to root the phone without unlocking the boatl
Not always the case at all but we will have to wait to see if devs can find an exploit to get root installed with a locked bootloader.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but root on a locked bootloader doesn't enable us to flash custom kernels, aosp roms, etc, right?
We still need to unlock the bootloader in order to get "full access" and install cyanogenmod for instance..

i think for flashing custom roms you need an unlocked bootloader. it's independent of root.
e.g. having an unlocked bootloader and not being root still enables you to flash a custom rom.
or am i wrong?
yes it will. wait for it
is it possible to re-lock the bootloader after u unlock it?

you could lock the bootloader again, but you won't get bravia engine 2 and some stuff back.

But you can install mods to the original Rom with root, which is what I'm interested in. For example, per app dpi, always on menu button, and some root apps such as titanium backup.

can i flash rom with http://www.xda-developers.com/androi...sktop-flasher/when im rooted
or do i have to unlock my bootloader and flash cwm first?
Technically I think it is possible as long as the su and adb features remains intact. If this program does that, it can be done. But I don't know, never used it and maybe never will when a custom recovery gives u the most secure way with changing ROMs.

yes i know, but for now i want to keep my warrenty. maybe there will be an exploit so we dont have to unlock the bootloader to install cwm

Nobody is working on that since its very time consuming and its really easy to unlock the bl with the moto page.
If you want cwm then unlock your bl,
if you want su + xposed, go with twerkmymoto

Is it feasible without any problems to go first with twerkmymoto (Su+xposed), and later with Unlocking bootloader (cwm and custom ROMs)? Or are there any conflicts?

Dear all,
I have one more noob question again.
I was use a tool name Backup-TA-9.8 to backup my Xperia Z1 DRM. If I unlock it boot loader I know that the camera will not work. But if I relock it bootloader and restore my DRM. Dose the camera will work well again?
Best regards,
Brian Lee Mataba

But when relocking/restoring you will not be able to use those custom roms anymore (those not based on stock), just so you remember/know.

Small question, wouldn't it be possible to unlock, root (by pushing su binaries in a custom recovery and restoring stock recovery), and relock? No reason it wouldn't work imo, and I find this procedure faster than doing the downgrade, root, recovery, upgrade method

yes, but when you unlock you void your warranty, so unless you are planning on keeping an unlocked bootloader I reckon the extra minute it takes to downgrade etc... is worth it to keep your warranty
Also,
There is no such thing as a "stock recovery" on Xperia devices.
Also,
there is no need to install a recovery on the downgrade method if you do not want to.

No warranty here anyway.
I remember OTA-upgrading an Xperia Z, and that simply flashed a zip package in recovery. Why would there be no stock recovery?
And you need to install a custom recovery to do the upgrade, either that or copy files while the system is running, and I'm not sure how the latter would work without the system crashing at some point.

No.
Xperia devices have never come with a stock recovery accessible for the user.
Upgrading OTA means you do not flash it in recovery, you download the files Over The Air and then the phone upgrades itself.
No official upgrades are done in recovery, only custom kernels, custom roms or custom updates are flashed in custom recoveries

I know what OTA means, on previous devices with stock recovery, it simply drops you into recovery and does the flashing itself without the user ever having to touch anything. Same goes for wiping user data, it's done in recovery.
Whether the recovery is accessible to the user or not is another thing, and I didn't know about it, so thanks for that.

How do you do a TA backup on the Z1? When you do the TA backup before doing anything else you usually do not have root yet, so I wonder how to backup the TA......
Follow any if the several guides in the dev section on how to backup TA. I can see at least 2 guides on the first page

The only devices that require an unlocked bootloader are HTC's since they have S-ON which prevents writes to the system permanently until it is switched off. This would make xposed impossible to install as once it is installed a reboot is required but the reboot would clear all changes to system.

What about systemless Xposed? Does it also require an unlocked bootloader?

Yep, can't flash custom kernels on a locked bootloader which systemless xposed Counts as. If you can flash custom kernels you can switch to S-OFF since its at kernel level anyway... If you can manage to install and boot a recovery somehow without unlocking the bootloader that would work too since S-ON only works while it's booted to system

Dont spam here... That tool doesn't work with Xperia z3+.
To install TWRP we need to unlock our BL. So that Pre rooted firmware doesn't work for our phone.
Okay if you really need to root. Just follow these steps.
First install adb and Fastboot in your computer.
Enable USB debugging and connect to Computer and install the drivers and check in device manager whether it is installed correctly.
Now connect your phone to computer in fastboot mode.
Open a command window in the adb and fastboot folder.
And backup your ta partition (Google it, I'm using a mobile browser so can't provide links now)
It'll create a .img file.
It contains all your drm keys.
Now unlock bootloader and install custom recovery twrp.
Then install rootable kernel and SuperSU.
Atlast install the .img from custom recovery.
That's it.
What if my device has a big fat NO in the service menu where it's says whether it's unlockable or not? Does no mean no, like never ever ever? Or will this method, ir some other one, get around that?
