Just entered the sensors self test section (dial *#0*# and hit Sensor) and performed some tests.
When I run the "Power Noise Test" under the Magnetic Sensor section, I don't receive any PASS or FAIL messages. no matter how long I let it run.
In this video (01:50-02:00) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSnSI-yzz6E the test was successful. with the note 5 there's no indication.
The second test is the "EOL Test", under the HRM Sensor section. this test always fails.
How does your note 5 behaving?
OMG, No one?!?!11one
Come on, guys. Assist a Fatherboard in need. Is this behavior normal?

Same for me, guess its normal.
Thanks a lot, AndroidState.

Hey guys, got my Focus S about a month ago and everything is working fine. I have noticed one semi-minor bug and want to figure out if its software/hardware related.
On shorter calls (30 seconds-1 minute), when I move my phone away from my face, the screen wakes back up like normal so I can hit End Call.
However, on longer calls (more than 3-4 minutes), when I move the phone away from my face, the screen stays black, and only wakes up when the other person hangs up, after 4-5 seconds.
Its as if the proximity sensor times out, and forgets that my face is there? This seems like a software issue since it works normal on shorter calls. Anyone have any insight on this? I'm still within thirty days of purchase with ATT so I can swap out my unit by this Sunday.
Thanks!
My Focus does this as well, it's always done it and bugs the hell out of me.
Well that makes me feel a lil better >... but it does seem to be a software issue.
Just a theory but, if the samsung focus S has the diagnosis app you could try recalibrating the proximity sensor. There is a thread that has already adressed calibrating the proximity sensor on the original samsung focus.
The diagnosis menu for the Focus S is different than that of the Focus... theres no way to calibrate the proximity sensor on our S's..
I have noticed this same thing. I thought that sensor was real neat until it didn't work all the time. I am still within the window I am contemplating taking jt back for the titan. Not sure yet though. Just seems to maybe be a better phone...
I'm pretty sure I remember my Focus S doing this once. I'll try and test it today and I'll get back to you.

please dont take offence, but i dont quite thats an accurate statement. i know many of the diag menu options arent available in the focus s as they were in the focus, but weeks back i do remember testing this function...although i dont recall in what diag function. if i get time, ill see if i can find that function and report back.
Few day ago noticed that that on gps navigation - phone sometimes randomly restarts. At first i tought that its software issue - so i relocked bootloader made repair/install using PC Companion - no result.
In forum found servie menu code *#*#7378423#*#* and if i try run Compass or Gyroscope under Service test - instant restart follows.
Accelerometer shows 0,0000 on X, Y and Z.
So i understand it is hardware related problem - but my question is where are those sensors located - or they are located on main pcb?
There are some stuff attached to middle frame with numbers
1264-3598.1
1264-3593.1
1264-3621
1364-3592.1
What those things might be?
Bump. I know it`s against forum rules. Sorry.
Same problem with my Xperia, guess water got in and damaged it :? does anyone know where accelerometer/gyroscope is placed on the phone?

I have exactly the same problem after changing my LCD screen several weeks ago.
Not only these test failed, but mine also randomly reboots itself when I'm browsing using Wifi/3G. LTE was disabled.
Passed Antutu Benchmark with decent score (~19000) and passed Antutu Stress test. I tested it till the processor got really hot (around 75c)
Already tried cleaning battery contact. didn't help the random restarts.

I have a HQ photo from my DSLR for the Gyro/Accel/Compass sensor. It's Invensense MPU Sensor. Will post the picture later after i got home.
Found your photo?

Yeah, I had those random reboots when browsing and/or taking pictures, I believe its because the phone tries to read Gyroscope Hardware and can't so it reboots. Can you please post it?
Guys,
I'm so sorry, I forgot uploading the photos.
I'm also already tried changing my battery, but still didnt fix this problem
Now,
Here (see my attachment)
Invensense MPU3050 is the culprit, as that chip provides the gyroscope and accelerometer [dunno whether it provides the compass or not]
http://www.invensense.com/products/motion-tracking/3-axis/mpu-3050/
The chip is "glued" in the right side of the phone, facing to the screen (notice the USB connector and the front camera
WTR1605L is 3G/LTE baseband
that samsung chip, is DDR2 ram, and there's the Qualcomm processor beneath that RAM (it's stacked)
PM8921 is the power management IC
We've discovered a problem with the Magnetic Field Sensor over at the OnePlus forums.
It's causing the 'button' mechanism in Cardboard to constantly go off. First video shows the issue in a normal situation - you can see how it peaks every few second.
Second shows it with a strong magnetic field near by - still has an issue.
Really looks like a hardware issue - so we need to test this out and reach out to OnePlus and get them to acknowledge the issue. You can test the sensor using this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tdt.magneticfielddetector
You can read more here https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/ghost-touches-when-using-google-cardboard-vr-games.450793/page-2

Happy to say that Carl Pei has already commented. Lets see where this goes.
I've checked the compass in google maps seems to be totally fine, seems more accurate than my MotoG3 in side by side tests.
i guess its not a hardware problem, because the pulses are too steady like intended. its looks like the sensor does a reset or gets demagnetize for a better calibration
maybe that's the reason why the level drops within a high magnetic environment like that hard-drive test.
while in low magnetic environment the level rises +40 uT because the higher voltage needed for the reset causes a stronger EMF than the surrounding.
but the EMF sensor doesn't add multiple EMF values, it only shows the actual value, that's why you can see the short drop of 64uT in the 2nd video.
in both cases the we reach nearly the same level of 70-80 uT which could be the default re calibrate level.
it doesn't effects the reading of the EMF direction because that impulse is too short so it looks fine in google maps or what ever app you use.
its just unfortunately that the VR apps uses EMF differential as a trigger mechanism
@blackalice nice post! I hope OnePlus will look into this as a real problem, and come up with a fix for it.
I hope as much people as possible test if they have the same spike, and report it to OnePlus
(maybe edit the post/title and ask for testers)
Is there any workaround for this? I can't watch vr videos, 360 videos on cardboard or other vr video apps since it is constantly resetting my view.

We got a couple of testers, software engineers and hardware engineers to the office this morning (Sunday) and have resolved this. It has been determined to be a software issue, and our engineers have now already have written solution for it. If the solution passes QT, expect it merged in the upcoming OTA.

You're right, looked for links, but it's posted as a screenshot. That's why I didn't see it :good:
any news on this problem? I still got this problem in OxygenOs 3.2.1
Try updating to 3.2.2 then
any news on this problem?
I had this issue on 3.2.2 and virtual reality was almost unusable because the magnetic sensor keeps getting triggered, what causes videos/games to pause/go to menu
I can test at home on FreedomOS 1.5: OxygenOS 3.2.6 based.
Hi All,
My proximity sensor isn't triggering during calls (Possilbly at all?) causing me to accidentally put people on hold.
(very annoying! at least make a tone so I know I hit the button)
Is there a switch for that?
What's weird is that I don't see a HW test for the proximity sensor in the diagnostics screen (tapping on kernel version)
Edit -> settings -> system apps -> phone -> incoming call settings -> proximity sensor is ON.
Can someone whose proximity sensor is working download a sensors test app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wered.sensorsmultitool&hl=en
and tell me if that detects your proximity sensor distance correctly? (or whatever app you want, just tell me which one).
- Frank
Go to Settings - About phone and tap 5 times on Kernel tab. You will get into test menu. There you can to test and calibrate proximity sensor.

I don't see it. What is the test called?
What Rom are you running? I'm on 8.0.10.0
See pictures below. Test menu works on any firmware.

Just looked at mine and I have prox sensor as number 9. Sounds like you may need to flash an updated build.
I updated to developer rom and proximity appeared and was working.
I then re-updated to stable rom (8.0.12.0 i.e latest) and it dissapeared again!

You already have the answer you're looking for. Guess the sensor is broken in the stable build. In this case, you may have to wait for the next stable release or use an alternate ROM.

Confirm proximity sensor missing in 8.0.12.0
Unfortunately, it is also missing in 8.2.1.0 stable
On Chinese 8.2.3.0 and the settings are missing from the CIT list also ... with that said I don't depend on it anyways lol. Just checking things.
for some thick case the proximity sensors might have problem... need to reboot phone with case on to "register" the case thickness...
hi mi mix fans , I came through lot of applications, proximity sensor tests, procedures, secret codes etc . to get solution for "screen off during call and not on automatically" but i found the real solution in this is .. remove back cover which almost users use . , tpu transparent also and see whether it work during call ..yes,finally got solution. check yourself all test works properly and screen on during call when device is away from ear..if not ?? pls consider to clean sensor ..
Wanted to test it. I can see the test, but not sure how to test it. I still don't.
So I tried to the front microphone test to learn how to use these tests...
But it scared the s**! out of me. It's such a haunting noise! Is that normal?!
I'm on global stable, CIT proximity option doesn't show too. I think my sensor is bugged by my cover since when the device isn't covered the sensor works fine.

Yes, such an annoying noise.
i have same problem i just updated phone after proximity sensor not work why xiaomi not try before update this f*cking fw.
What I observed is after resetting when I tested it I came to know that sensors sensi
What I observed is after resetting when I tested it I came to know that sensors sensitivity distance increase up to an inch but starts dropping again as I move object in front of sensor 8 to 10 times and is reduce to 1 cm finally which is very less if you hold mobile in left hand ear but it works on right hand ear as proximity sensor is placed left of mobiles front side.I think it is a software problem which xiaomi should look in to.Sensor keeps on calibrating till it reduces distance to 1cm from nearly 1 inch that is 3 cms. This is very shameful for xiaomi that after so many years of experience they have not yet resolved this for Mi A1.
My proximity sensor also isn't working. I've tried to do this test we find on kernel tab, but I couldn't test it, it shows no options for me to calibrate or sth. Help me please!!
Same issue here. Phone just turns black, when I am calling people - difficulties to restart the display afterwards. Using Lineageos 16 - no chance to tab the kernel there. Dialing * # * # 64663 # * # * shows no results. Wandering, if this is a hardware or a software issue.
hi, does the proximity sensor work when you are NOT in a call ?
for example samsung decided to disable it unless you are IN a call, probably to avoid the blinking you can see in pixel 5.
thanks

Hi, I had exactly the same issue on my S10e. I am happy to report that the proximity sensor seems to be working outside the calling app! I have tried DevCheck and it reacts to my hand wave.
thank you very much!
I have also tried a push ups app and it works as intended. I don't have to actually touch the screen with my nose anymore to get a count. It is enough to be 1-2 cm near the phone. So, no fat spots on screen!
