Hi Everyone, I am Pushkar Dua just wanted to share a rooting guide for Nexus 5 Android 5.0.1
As many people Reported that Root has stopped working after the 5.0.1 Update or previous Binaries lead device to Boot Loop,
Please Download Latest Binaries That i am providing here: http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip
And flash it with TWRP recovery..
Please Use TWRP Version 2.8.1.0 as people reported some problems in latest 2.8.2.0 version.
Downlaload TWRP 2.8.1.0
Please note: if you're having a problem with twrp 2.8.1.0 asking for password..
Please use twrp 2.0.4.5
just reboot to system and you will have root access..
Watch the video for more info and Please Hit thanks or subscribe me on youtube to support me! every bit will be strongly appreciated!
Please Leave your questions BY QUOTING ME
Thanks
Thanks To @Chainfire for making this!
Original Thread for SuperSU : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 Root Nexus 5 Lollipop 5.0.1
Hey!
Thanks a lot. Really helped solve my problem!
No problem
This doesn't belong in Development.
Actually i am not sure where should this be.. I'd request modders to please move it to the correct board!
Thanks man!

Since you've probably lost your custom recovery upgrading to 5.0.1, you can grab the TWRP images for Nexus 5 here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hammerhead
I believe you need to use 2.8.1.0 since 2.8.2.0 either doesn't work or is causing problems for many users.

Isn't CF-Auto root adding files from the 5.0 release over the 5.0.1 ? Isn't it safer to wait for a 5.0.1 autoroot?

How did you update from a rooted (with CF-Auto Root) 5.0 to 5.0.1 you just received the OTA and installed it without any problems ?
I like to know because i am on 5.0 stock just rooted with CF_Auto root.
So no more need for CF-Auto?
Just flashing SuperSU zip with TWRP is enough?
I flashed a Custom Rom Using TWRP which doesn't have any root permission...

Yes... Just Flashing with TWRP Is Enough!
Guys, i installed the 5.0.1 update by fastboot flashing system, boot and radio. I lost my custom recovery tho (CWR). I now tried to install TWRP, but after flashing the recovery image, the recovery still hasnt changed. Could i just flash CRW or should i use TWRP for this version?

This. I flash with it here since 4.4.4 and it did everything just fine. Not only it is an app to automatically root, but it gives very good hints, and provides lots of others features like installing Apks, getting a adb prompt, and so much more. Greatest third party Android app I have tried. Highly recommended, didn't even had to wait they update it for 5.0.1, as soon I got the 5.0.1 OTA notification, Nexus Root Toolkit was already ready for it.

This is lollipop security, custom recover wouldn't stick, after each reboot it will replaced with stock one, of course there is a way to make it sticky just search the forum.

That's always been enough. You can use Cf's auto root if you don't want to use a custom recovery.

I have Verizon Nexus 6 which came with LMY47E system but as it is well known LMY47I is now officially available. but with older radio. I'm already unlocked and rooted and have latest version of TWRP recovery installed instead of stock recovery. So my question is can I extract system.img and flash using TWRP install option and get newer system but keeping original radio and user data without data wipe? Should I wipe any cashe before flashing to avoid possible problems?
Anything else I should flash to make sure I will be able to use phone without problems while keeping root and unlocked bootloader or i will have to do unlocking and rooting again? Any help is appreciated
Fastboot flash system and boot and you'll be good.

Thanks for quick reply. So I can't use TWRP recovery? Flashing boot will not wipe root and bootloader?
It's a lot easier to just flash system and boot in fastboot. Flashing system will erase root but after you flash system and boot go directly into recovery and flash Su.

That's exactly how I understand and that's why I"m asking if it's possible to do the upgrade using TWRP recovery by flashing just one IMG file at a time in specific sequence and than restarting the phone while still keeping current radio and data plus SuperSU at the end
You can't flash the IMG files in twrp. You'll need to use fastboot. Just flashed whichever files you need. I usually flash everything but recovery and then just reroot. Takes about 10 minutes.
Hello everyone,
My Nexus 6 has TWRP installed without any ROM (had CM12.1, but removed it). Now I want to flash my stock Lollipop 5.1.1 ROM, which is a .tgz file (thus, I can't flash using TWRP as it only supports .zip). Also, fastboot is not working in TWRP. What should I do to flash stock rom and unroot my device?

Either use ADB or Nexus Root Toolkit. Easiest way in my opinion is to use the latter, pretty much just one click. Just use the flash stock plus unroot option.

What are you loading. The TGZ not gonna go. Have to unzip the images. Once know how to do it the flashing is only 3-5 minutes depending on how fast you can type.

I rooted today because I can't wait much longer for an OTA update. I'm trying to flash though ADB but can't because TWRP won't load ADB mode. I have reflashed TWRP recovery but it still doesn't work.
So can I do now? Can I use an OTG cable or download the image right to the device? Should I restore my backup and re-root without adding a custom recovery?
I'm so lost, any help would be great.

i think i understand, youre trying to flash stovk marshmallow. you use fastboot to flash the factory image, while you are in your bootloader.
Hey @simms22 I just built aosp_shamu , just haven't flashed it myself
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Yes, I'm trying to flash Marshmallow. I'm trying to access the file on my laptop to be sent to recovery through adb. How else can I get the file to my phone without adb. All the instructions involve adb, but I can't get it to go beyond "starting adb service" and it just sits there spinning its wheels. I tried originally to flash through Nexus Root Toolkit, but that failed do to it not seeing system.img.

You want pure stock? I just made a shamu mm aosp straight from the source, its flashable. You'll have to flash mm gapps and su if you want root.

You want the factory image. Download it. Extract all zips. Install minimal adb and fastboot. Plug up to CPU , put device in bootloader mode. Simply start adb/fastboot, CD to where images are, type fastboot flash bootloader "name of BL", fastboot reboot bootloader, fastboot flash boot boot.img, system system.img, cache cache.img

hello, all
I want to root my Nexus 6 (version 6.0.1 build MMB29V T-Mobile) and install CM13.
I only have a Mac and there are no instructionals that I can find that fit this build and version. The last one that i found was techfanatic's method via Androidrootz but that only works for unlocking bootloader.
can someone show me where to find the best tutorial for this? my real need is really just flashing a recovery onto my phone and i can take it from there.
Thanks for any help

this is to flash TWRP
https://twrp.me/devices/motorolanexus6.html
this is for CM
https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_shamu
not sure if the above will help on a Mac though as have never used one before.
thanks dude I'll definitely try this out

Rooting MMB29V and other MM builds is the same.
Make sure your bootloader is unlocked.
Flash TWRP recovery with the command:
fastboot flash recovery *insertfilenamehere*.img
Then, boot into TWRP, flash the SuperSU 2.69 ZIP and reboot.
Your phone will be rebooted, however technically there is no need to reboot either.
Just flash TWRP, wipe data/reset and flash CM13 and then Gapps.
Reboot system and enjoy.

The commands on Mac and Windows are the same as far as I know.
Everything will work fine provided you have ADB and Fastboot setup correctly.
thanks dude^^ ?
