It's muffled and distorts. Ss-sounds are almost inadible during calls and there's a "fuzz" on louder sounds. Annoying. Hopefully they can fix it in a software update.
It's not as clear and loud as G4.
Volume is pretty good but the clarity is only so-so in my opinion. Coming from the One M8, which was my last phone, the speakers could use improvement.
How do others hear you when loadspeaker is on? Do they hear you clear? Or they constantly asking you to repeat what you just said?

I've used it a couple times and haven't had anyone complain about not being able to hear me.
Speakers
I come from note 3 and the speaker volume and clarity is clearly better than the note 3 or any other devices i have seen. I also own Sennheiser HD 650 and can confirm that onboard DAC is quite effective for high impedance headphones. Also for car audio and bose earphone i own show the benefit of auto upscaling of music i own. Very pleased with the purchase so far and still awaiting for the promotion i applied for!
it is pretty loud actually.. and the clarity is not bad for only 1 speaker
I think it fair to good. Good enough for speakerphone conversations even in mildly noisy environments, but not great for music listening ( compared to Nexus 6P ). I think the microphone quality is excellent as some people have been unable to tell that I'm on speakerphone.
Mine is good. bottom firing speaker.. you can use your hand and kind of cup the bottom of the phone.. makes it quite a bit louder.. other times I actually turn the phone upside down so the speaker is pointed up at my face. Seems adequate for me in clarity and volume.
Works fine for me.
Much improved from the G2. While on that phone, anytime I used speaker, the person on the end always said "did you put me on speaker???". And reception was awful as well.
The V10 is clear and loud enough. Not one person has even asked.

The speaker is mediocre only. But this is compensated by the superior sound coming from the headphone jacket.
speaker is really bad
i had mate 8 it has way better speaker quality with good bass

Thinking about getting an hd+, Is e speaker as bad as the nook tablet? All the reviews say you can barely hear movies. What about with cm10? Is the sound any better?
the reviewers must be hard of hearing. the speaker is pretty loud but tinny and firing the wrong way. but loud. put a post it note near the speaker and it'll redirect the sound to you instead of away.

Thanks for the response. How is it compared to an ipad speaker? I'm just afraid that it won't be loud enough for my daughter if there is background noise.

You can hear it fine in a quiet room. Any noise though and you'll need headphones, a little better than my phone.
maybe mine is louder than others because i cna hear mine loud and clear at aroind 70% with my daughter watching tv in the same room. maybe my hearing is sensitive., which would be odd considering i used to drive around with 6 sub, 4 mids and 2 horns in my car.
My husband has the HD+ and I have the HD. Both are plenty loud in my opinion. Much better than my Nook Color (which I imagine would be similar to the Nook Tablet). No idea how any of them compare to iPad.
The speakers are really loud. Louder than my TF700, or my Amaze 4g, or my Ipad2. They must've fixed it with the latest update.
Really? What firmware are you on?

Very clear voice quality
My mother doesn't hear real well, and says she has a hard time understanding people on the phone, but she said I am very clear and can understand me very well! People I am talking to sound very clear to me also, so I think the sound is excellent. I use a plantronics bluetooth, so don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Thank you.
After using the phone for some time I can confirm call quality to be excellent.
I have to say, the Samsung Galaxy S7 definitely has the best call quality on a smart phone... BUT, this definitely comes in second place. The curved top part of the device with the earphone placement is genius. You don't have to press you're whole cheek or whole ear against the phone, just lean in a little bit and you can hear perfectly. It doesn't get tiring having it on one ear, like on my other phones, after a while I have to move it to another ear. It's loud as well so you may need to turn it down a bit once you put it up to you're ear, but not ear piercing loud. It is as crystal as it gets but this phone has EXTREME noise canceling, which is great, but it literally can't hear anyone talking in the background or the TV, just you. You have to yell really loud if you're in the background and you want the other person to hear you. Some guy blasted his loud speaker walking past me one day and my friend on the phone could barely hear it, it just sounded like a tiny buzz to her. Samsung still takes the cake. Even if you have one bar the quality is good, and the LTE calling is pretty good too.
Just chiming in as well. T-Mobile h918 and the call quality is great whether on voLTE, HD voice or not. I have used a Verizon S7 and a T-Mobile S7 edge and have noticed no difference in quality compared to my V20 so far.
Im considering buying this phone. I havent heard much about the speakers and the microphone. Are the speakers and microphone good?
One of the best. If you're curious, phonearena has a battleground for the loud speakers of phones.
Also there are countless youtube videos on the audio quality and you can listen to the microphone quality.
It is louder, and clear then my wife's iphone 5, and to me seems parallel to her new galaxy s7 edge.
The neat thing is the case and shape of the body with an ungrip, holds the speaker a quarter inch off the surface, which seems to give me drastic improvement when listening to music etc...
Please note that speaker and mic quality can be drastically altered on any phone with the right rom.
Here are some links...
phone arena benchmarks (speakers/headphones are on here)
Youtube: audio sampling quality review
4k video recorded (with audio) This is a good way to hear mic quality, however, you can see that the 4k video (and even 1080p) are quite jumpy, the stabilization is great, but has a lot of issues on super high resolution (especially in the corners)

microphone = good; speakers = ok (no stereo speakers)

Great call quality on the t285 (normal calls)
Review for normal call function, not speaker phone.
Call quality is really good, the main phone speaker is very large, it needs to be turned down to be less audible to others and to hold phone closer to ear (ok, tablet, but i use it as phone). Friends and family hear me really very well. Because the tablet is bigger and heavier than a real phone, the speakers and mic can be bigger I guess. phone calls are very functional on this device, as good as any real phone i have used, only it looks a bit daft due to 7" size.
(at last a general consumer question i can actually answer lol!)
With google dialer set up my t550 makes absolutely perfect calls. Obviously on speaker phone only

I was astonished when I heard the speakers for myself, they are really loud but clear!
they're good, but not great.
I like the speakers, but they need some tweaking, the sound isn't as full bodied as my HTC One M7 was. They're clear sounding, but a bit tinny for my taste. I'll be happy when some eq mods get implemented.
I was really pleasantly surprised by them. They are just as loud as my Nexus 6P WITH the Viper4Android soundboost all the way up. Once I get V4A on the Pixel 2 I wonder just how loud it will actually get. Sounds amazing for such a small phone too, wow.
Got mine in yesterday. nice crisp clear sound... but the earpiece speaker is treble biased, and the bottom speaker is bass biased...
Makes things sound really weird when listening to music or watching movies in landscape...
I am getting an exchange unit and will update when that unit comes in.
Update: Exchange unit came in... I've been using it for a few days now, and I have noticed no difference from my last unit... an hour on the phone with google device engineers got me the response that this is by design to increase the frequency range... I still don"t like it as it bothers me..
who wants to buy a gently used pixel2?

The same situation. Is it feature or defect? Can anybody confirm it? Thanks.
Anyone's speakers distorting or crackling? Coming from iPhone 7. Speakers on iphone are not loud, but they do sound good. Pixel 2 by comparison is tinny and crackle at higher volumes.
Coincidentally, I'm RMAing the Pixel 2 right now for ticking noise in earpiece and constant high frequency emission. Wondering if maybe my speakers are no bueno too. No one else seems to have the speaker distortion or at least too early.
Edit: I was playing "Bridge Burn" by little comets when i noticed. Then played thievery corporation's "Culture of Fear". Maybe someone else can compare?

My speakers seem to rattle a little at max volume, even just with Google Assistant or navigating. Haven't noticed any issues on calls though I haven't made a lot since I got my Pixel 2.
Overall quality seems all right a few notches down from max, but is quite noticeably worse than my nexus 6.
Speakers
Could anybody check if speakers are producing the same sound (you can cover it by finger). My unit's top speaker has more hights, bottom one has more mids and bass. Maybe it's by design. I am not sure. Thank you.

Yes, absolutely agree with you. Bottom is far better at base and mids. Top speaker is opposite.

It could be related to separate dedicated drivers in each speaker (Allowing for larger respective drivers), or simply an equalization software aspect.

Ditto here. Noticed it right out of the box. Top is treble biased, bottom is bass. It seems design derivative. Also possible too because the top speaker is also used for earpiece/speakerphone?
Waiting for more confirmation from google whether this is real or defect. Good to hear from here I'm not the only one.
No issue though with the phone so far.

The are crystal clear but when I compare them to my nexus 6, the bass is better on the nexus

Also have the ticking sound, and so so sounding speakers. Trying to RMA. Apparently turning off NFC is supposed to help with the ticking sound. Haven't done it myself....too many digital reward cards
Noticed quite a bit of distortion when navigating at max volume. The voice is full bodied and, combined with the software EQ choice, I think it hits that perfect low-mid tone and overpowers the speakers. Stepping it down two notches basically eliminates it. Also noticed that the speakers are very directional compared to the OG pixel XL. Had both devices playing the same music and Pixel 2 audio disappears when faced away compared to the OG pixel which was much more audible when the speaker was pointed away. I think the amount of bass they are trying to offer is lofty and unattainable and the device would sound better with a bit more mid and less extreme treble and bass. If I decide to keep this device I'll be praying for the dev community to offer up some display and audio tweaks. P.S. I haven't noticed the ticking/noise from the speakers on my device but I think if they dropped this ultra hifi EQ choice, a slight drop in highs would probably make it much less noticeable or might make it disappear completely if the frequency could be isolated and cut (I'm looking at you 6kHz and above).
Can anyone get me /etc, /lib & /bin folders? I might take a look if there is any ways to improve your device's speakers
