Ok, maybe it does suck for all users, so the title may be a little misleading, but for those worried about purchasing because of battery life, depending on your usage, the Nexus 5 isn't that bad.
I previously owned an iPhone 5, and after having made the jump to Android finally, I was worried about battery life. Specifically because its my understanding that Android does background tasking differently than iPhone. Well, after having my Nexus 5 for almost 2 weeks now, I must say that I'm impressed with the results. The short version: after getting my Nexus 5 set up to do all that I basically would do on my iPhone on a regular day, the Nexus 5 stomps all over my iPhone 5's battery life.
Not sure exactly how to go into details, but my basic usage is that I work typically 5 hours a day. by the end of my 5 hour shift, and after having barely used my phone during that time, it was a good day if my battery was left with anything over 35%. Keep in mind that I would always have my phone charged at 100% before work, and since im on sprint, my area doesn't even have LTE yet, so I can't use that as an excuse for drain. Though to be fair, my iPhone 5's have both had issues (I've swapped it out once already hoping it was just my phone)
anyways, lately ive been getting full time hours for the holidays, and since I have my nexus 5, I leave my phone fully charged before work. during a 12 hour day, my nexus 5 still had 51% battery life, versus my iPhone only having 25-45% during a 5 hour shift. Granted, this is through light use (a typical day of not accessing my phone much, only checking one mail gets pushed through, texts, and the occasional quick google search lookup here and there)
I am very well aware that the battery drains a lot faster during screen on time, but you have to consider how much bigger the screen is in comparison, and the resolution. But, with that said, screen on time, even game usage, I see the Nexus 5 battery life last longer than my iPhone 5 ever did.
So, for those coming from an iPhone specifically, and scared by all the "this is my battery life" posts everywhere, keep in mind what exactly it is a user is doing on their phone, and a simple screenshot isn't enough to detail what the battery life entails. I'd like to also point out that I haven't really done any of the basic power saving tweaks yet either, so I am excited to mess around with my phone some more as well. Ive also noticed that in the battery settings you can go into each app and see exactly what some apps are doing that are draining your battery. This is dependent on the app, and it mostly just gives you how much data an app used, how long it was accessing something (for instance, cpu, GPS, etc)
These are two different phones, and in particular, two different worlds basically. You can't really compare battery life between the two because they function differently in their own ways. But you can't judge the Nexus 5 battery life on what others say they get either. It all depends on what you are doing exactly. So when you see those screenshots, make sure to get all the info on usage first, before assuming the Nexus 5 battery is poor. I'm not saying its going to last you all day, because again, depending on your usage, the battery just might suck. But I personally know when I am going to game or do something heavy, no matter what phone, it's going to need to be recharged eventually anyway.
Huh ?

I find the battery life to be very good on my Nexus 5 too. More often I'm getting 2 days easy. That's with little use through day time, and heavy web, facebook, email and quick game or 2 in the evenings. Sometimes all that and even have 20% left!
My last phone was the HTC One-X with the 1800mah battery and it would struggle with a full day.
Are you kidding me? iPhone's battery life is atrocious! No real iPhone user would actually be worried about battery life because they always keep their phone plugged in so that they won't have to worry about their stupid little battery. To be fair, it's quite a feat for the iPhone to handle all that technology on such a small battery but realistically, everybody I know who owns an iPhone regardless of generation always complain that their phone's battery is weak and they either have to keep it charged all the time or carry around external chargers.
I think iPhone users should consider other things such as moving to a different OS and how maybe some of their favourite apps won't be available to them anymore. They shouldn't have to worry about battery life at all.
I've received my N5 last week and yea I find battery life crap...
I have a Note 3 where I get 6 hours on screen daily while my Nexus I have hard time getting 3...

it kinda sucks if u ask me..i have to constantly charge it every now and then
The battery life is good in comparison to my former Samsung Galaxy S3 Well, it´s not as good as a Samsung Galaxy Note III or similar huge device with a huge built in battery but to be honest, as a customer you knew before the purchase what you had to expect
If you use a good custom kernel, disable processes you don´t need and don´t play games all the time, the battery life of the Nexus 5 is good enough.
im getting great battery life with my N5.. better then my htc one and gs4... yea im rocking franco kernel which is a kick a$$ kernel but even b4 i rooted it i was getting great battery life.. i never use GPS.. i NEVER have ishh syncing in the backround.. i dont go on facebook from my phone..
I would say the Nexus 5 battery is average or slightly above average. It does not suck but it is not great either. Its on par with other phones with the same size screen and battery.
It seems to me that the ones complaining about the battery life are coming from other android devices which, depending on the device, might have had a bigger battery to begin with, other optimizations, etc.
Then some of the ones praising the battery (like myself) have probably come from smaller devices, like the iPhone (such as myself lol).
I just wanted to post this to point out for those that were like me and worried about it. There are still things I don't like about android, but I'm trying to give it a chance and keep the switch. I just got sick of the iOS environment.

Look at the Note 3 battery
I feel like I am the only person on earth who actually doesn't the iphone has bad battery life. (maybe that's because I had galaxy phones up until my iphone 5 and 5s and was blown away at how long it lasted) i could easily go 2 days on a charge, not that I ever did unless I had to. but anyway I digress.
I would say my Nexus battery is more than adequate for what I need. I am a heavy user, especially yesterday it was constant twitter/instagram/texting etc... And I got over 13 hours with 3+ hours of screen time.

I know the difference in the battery.
But coming from a Note 3 to N5 is a major downgrade for me.
My N4 and N5 has no difference at all in battery life.
I love my N5 for the OS with Google experience, give me a rom like that for my note 3 and I wouldn't even keep my N5. That why I bought the n5, I'm bored of all the crap Samsung put in my note 3.
1.2gb vs 300mb, that's the roms size difference between both... But yea at the moment I'm keeping both device for daily use.

I think the phone's OS itself is quite optimized and I was expecting far worse battery life since I am coming from a Note 2. To my surprise, it's not bad at all. I've not experienced many wakelocks, and my cell reception is, on a scale of 1-10 avg about 7. I've disabled the recommended location stuff and wifi scanning, and I'd say it's doing quite well. I've also installed Lux to minimize screen brightness and it helps a bit.
Overall, I will say the battery life is adequate, considering how thin and light this phone is. If you really need the battery life, get a Note 3 or a battery pack.
I don't have any battery issues personally but I see a few people do but I do know a few things that cause it.
The new GPS menu is misleading, you want to have it on Battery Saver, not High Accuracy, that there will drain your battery alone.
Turn off NFC when not in use.
Just a few things.

If you are seriously spending 6hrs a day on your phone you have issues man. No offense but that's just unhealthy!
Go outside a bit and go for a walk or something. Try leave your phone at home.

Oh yea because it last 6 hours per charge, I need to use it 6 hours per day...
My note is charged once per 2 days and I never run out of battery while my Nexus is dying at the end of 1 days so yea it make a big difference.
I'll have to start some heavy undervolting like I did on my N4 to get something normal.

battery life is a big improvement for me over my old galaxy s3. I can actually make phone calls send text, surf and watch youtube and have about 3.5-4h hours of time on screen with about 16 hours of being unplugged.
Funny - it's the second best phone I've had. I had no problem getting 3 days out of my HTC One GPE, and I have no problem getting 2 days out of my Nexus 5.
My absolute worst battery day was 15 hours, 20 minutes to 5% battery. That consisted of 4 hours, 31 minutes screen-on time, with literally 100% of that time consisting of running benchmarks (mostly 3dmark and geekbench). Since then, I haven't had a single day - even relatively heavy phone-use days, with 2+ hours of screen-on time - where I've gone below 50% before bed. Other than the HTC One GPE, this is the first phone I can say that about.
According to BetterBatteryStats, my battery drain RARELY reaches 2%/hr.
Anyone complaining about battery life on this phone likely has either a battery issue, a rogue process, or they use it a LOT more heavily than they think... Just my 2 cents.
One last thing, for absolute transparency - The first thing I do with ANY new Nexus device is turn it on to make sure it works, unlock the bootloader, and immediately flash the factory image. Between a Nexus One, 2 Nexus S's, 2 Galaxy Nexuses, 3 Nexus 4's, 2 2012 Nexus 7's, a Nexus 10, and now my Nexus 5, the only device to ever have a problem is my wife's Nexus S, which suddenly stopped turning on one day. Worked perfectly, battery died, then... nothing, ever again.
Hey guys, looking for some input here.
Im coming up on the 14 day return policy for the nexus 6, but im really thinking of returning it and going with the note 4.
The only issue i have with the phone is battery life. My phone seems to gulp it down. Now i do have many battery draining features turned off and standby time is excellent. Its when i actually use the phone i get massive drain, whether it be facebooking, web browsing, or playing games, the phone loses a lot of life! My wife used the camera this past weekend for 20 minutes according to the stats and my percentage dropped 25%from 80% to 55% within 1/2 hour!
My brightness is also on adaptive at 35-40%. For the life of me, it just seems i cant stop the battery drain.
I know going to the stock note 4 battery is about the same, but Zerolemon is releasing the note 4 10000 mah battery later this month. I had the same battery on my note 3 and loved it, ive never killed that battery. Yes, itll be a brick, yes but im thinking id prefer battery over function.
I do love the nexus, especially the screen size and the front facing speakers, and i will lose those with the note, but having a dead phone by 6pm makes those features useless. Yes, i could charge the phone halfway through the day, but i was spoiled with the note 3 extended battery.
SO my question is, should i chance the nexus 6 and hope upcoming updates solve the drain, or should i dump it and go with the note 4 and extended battery.
Frank
TL;DR NExus 6 battery dies too quick, return and get note 4 with zero lemon.
I went from the Note 4 to the Nexus 6 and battery life is about the same. I was actually pretty disappointed with the battery life of the Note 4 considering i had a Note 2 where the battery lasted FOREVER! I had originally decided that i would bypass the Nexus 6 and get the Note 4 instead, and at first i loved it but after having to deal with constant lag and dealing with samsung's crappy radios i'm glad i picked up the Nexus 6 (Note 4 is my new alarm clock at home)
It seems that your mind is already made up.. just get the Note 4

Are you using stock ROM or rooted and/or flashed? Sounds unusual for stock. I'd check your network settings and make sure your preferred network type and access point name are correct for your carrier but if standby time is good that probably isn't it anyway. I'd look for an app which gives more detailed battery usage information and go from there.
after going through an S4 and Note 3.. Im glad to be away from samsung. They have amazing hardware specs but drag it down with their crappy touchwiz. It's really unfortunate, the s-pen is pretty great.

It seems the biggest drain is during use, not standby!

That is normal on any device. That battery for me is decent. However don't forget that you just got a new device. People always use new devices more initially before they settle into a normal use rhythm. Also I wouldn't worry much about the return date because this device is so hard to get that if you sold it yourself you would probably make money on it. Just give it time.

It's possible that something is wrong with YOUR nexus. I get 5 hours of sot with a stock rooted rom and greenify. Once I decrypt, ROM and kernel I'd expect 6 to 8 easy.

edit: nm i see you already mentioned it in the original post, and were just looking for opinions.
The battery life is obviously important, so it is certainly a dice roll on your part.
For me, I have a Note 2 and waiting for N6 to be available for me. I am so sick of Samsung forced apps and touchwiz. It's not rooted, but I don't feel like I should have to root it in order to get a basic OS without the addons being forced on me by the manufacturer, and then have the warranty voided because of it.

theres no such thing as "typical". we all use our devices differently, and have differing signal quality. you can really ever compare battery stats with another person because of that. only you know how you use your device. so the question is going to get changed.. by how you use your device, and your local signal quality, are you happy with your battery life?

Did you allow google to auto restore settings, apps, data at first boot up? Coming from a different device and OS version could have synced something funky that is causing this. I have noticed this before. Consequentially I never use this feature. I always set every device up fresh (same if switching Roms too in my book). I would try a factory reset at the very least. I have been trying hard to kill my n6 today with no luck, already 12 up time 22% battery left with 4½ hours SOT. Battery stats say I have 3 hours of life left.
Have google now on and going, 2 email clients syncing, g+ syncing, Tapatalk syncing, roughtly 4 active hangouts going, and updated 8+ apps from play store.
Been actively trying to duplicate a power day on this thing. With you experience, something is off with your description and worth experimenting some.
I did do the wireless sync due to some apps needing to recover data.
Maybe I'll try a reset and manually download the apps.

Ive had my phone for a couple weeks now. The first week I had it obviously I was playing around with it a ton and trying different Qi chargers to see how they work. My battery life was unimpressive at 8-10 hours. I was hoping to have at least a full days worth of time based on everything this is supposed to have.
Then I tried a couple things. I turned off the stupid fit application. I ran the battery all the way down until the phone literally turned off. Then I used only wall USB chargers to charge it up.
Now with the same type of usage 3-4 hours of screen time, Im typically getting at least 18-24 hours of battery life. I even managed 30 hours once. Anyway, Im extremely happy with the way this phone is holding up now. Obviously YMMV but I think if you find the right tweaks for the way you use it, it should last longer than you expect.

So Far Today by your stats i will give you mine.
@ 27% Battery Left after flashing Stock a 1.5 days ago rooted/decrypted
Screen is at 4:30:09 @ 42% Usage
Phone Radio 15:30:41 @ 4% usage
Wifi Active 3:24:12 1% usage
Held Awake 2:23:26 0% usage
App Usage 53%
I also have a persistent System (ADSPD) drain that while i don't know how much its draining app sucker puts it at 13.8% vs the next drainer of Android System at 7.3%
Just guessing maybe you are in a poorer signal area than I? Basing that on your phone radio using much more of the percentage?
For what its worth you saw my screen on time. GSAM is predicting 6h 58m total for the day if i run it to 0.
I'm currently looking into the Droid Turbo as I need options on a new phone. My Note 4 has been replaced twice, on my third phone with horrible screen issues. Had the iP6+, really bad screens and iOS sucks. Came from a year with the Moto X and it served me well, but bad battery life and bad burn-in forced me to get a new phone.
Needless to say, I'm limited on phone choices currently. I originally looked at the Turbo when it came out but the lack of brightness and no voice/data turned me off. But since it got the AC 1.0 update, that's a step in the right direction. I've also been told that the brightness issue has been resolved as well, but no one can seem to confirm it.
So, those of you that have had the Turbo, would you buy it again? How's the real battery life? Voice/data working great? How about screen issues, as far as discoloration or uniformity?
Thanks!
32 hours on, 4 hours of screen on time.. Still have 26% remaining. No regrets.
Anyone else?
I am really loving this phone. I had a couple small complaints, but they were patched with the last update. Battery life is awesome. Simultaneous voice and data working now. The screen is gorgeous. I would definitely buy again .If you need any more convincing watch this. His reviews are always spot on.
Battery life is phenomonal
I can't use voice and data and I took the update, tried it just last night.
Coming from a Galaxy S3... both me and my wife. Both of us are very happy. Screen is plenty bright. Not seeing any obvious screen uniformity issues... I haven't been "looking" for them, but I tend to notice things like that quickly, so it's good enough, at least. Battery life is far better than the S3, as expected... I guess I'm not a heavy user in that sense. Certainly would recommend this device (or the MotoX).

Have you enabled HD Calling? It won't work until you have done that.
Non HD call quality with Advanced Calling enabled is a little quirky. The last update addressed all the issues mentioned in early reviews AFAICT. I get 33 hours battery life on average and 4 1/2 hours screen on.
Definitely would buy again.

My wife and I also came from the S3 and we love this phone, no regrets at all.
I am very happy with mine. I see no issues related to screen brightness. VOLTE and data work just fine. I did have a speaker issue with my first device, which was among the first batch produced. I had it replaced with one from a newer batch and have had no issues thus far. If you are particular about your devices, I think there are few options that are "perfect" in their quality control. The devices are too complicated, with too may features, to expect that they will all leave the factory perfect.
i currently own the nexus six, which i've had since march. my previous experience with the nexus line was the galaxy nexus on verizon (which we all know was severely handicapped by verizon). i had a note 4 on sprint before i switched to the nexus 6 because i was sick of the slow updates. 1) the nexus 6 is slow. it completely lags when doing simple searches and opening apps. 2) updates are great, but still missing wifi calling. 3) i just updated my tab s 8.4 to lollipop 5.0 and it SMOKES my nexus. seriously what gives? why is this phone so slow? im currently on the latest update and i'm really disappointed. 4) the battery life is TERRIBLE. i dont think i've ever had a phone with such poor battery life. i'm thinking this is going to be the last nexus i ever get. with the note 4 i had expandable storage and a removable battery. what are your guys' thoughts? how happy are you with your nexus? i can't believe touchwiz is faster than vanilla android. im in complete disbelief.
You sure something isn't wrong with your device?
My Nexus 6 pretty much smokes the Galaxy S6 I had in terms of smoothness.
Battery life is pretty good but does leave something to be desired, but remember.. this screen is huge and it takes some power to push all the pixels on this huge Quad HD screen. On top of that, we are still in the early days of phones having Quad HD displays. I think some software updates will help with battery life in the future.

Sure, the heavier the OEM layer is the faster the device will be, this is common knowledge. Please hold on to this feeling and get another device. We have plenty of winers allready :silly:
I was also very disappointed with the battery life of my Nexus 6. It was then giving me some major problems (It would turn off very frequently and not turn on until it was plugged in, even at 100% battery). I then RMA'd it and my replacement Nexus 6 has way better battery life (5+ SOT instead of 3 or less). I'd recommend RMA'ing it if you're having issues because this phone is blazing fast and a great device.

Try rooting the phone and use for instance Greenify or Servicely to slumber apps/services when they are not needed. A custom kernel stretches batterylife too in my xperience.
1. Mine isn't slow at all, it's as fast if not faster than the G3.
2. Why are you expecting Wi-Fi calling?
3. *shrug* my experience is completely different
4. I don't know what people are doing to get poor battery life with this phone. I've done no optimizations and I work 8-10hrs while my phone is jumping between poor 3G/LTE. I unplug around 8am and get home with usually 60% battery left.
5. What do I think? This isn't the phone for you. Enjoy your Samsung. If you haven't tried the G3, you should.

OP,
Don't really know what to say to you, other than my experience was the complete opposite. I had the Note 4 for exactly 2 days before I got sick of the lag, bloat, and ridiculously cluttered settings page and returned it. My N6 is so fast that it's becoming annoying to use my 2nd gen ipad because of how slow it it.

Stock is quite speedy unencrypted.
i've got my phone rooted, but im not going to install a custom rom or kernel. i love android over ios, but im just disappointed with this device. As far as the g3, i've messed around with the device and it too lags. i had a g2 and it lags as well. actually speedwise, i would say my n6 is on par with my old g2, which was crap. yeah samsung has bloatware, and i used a different launcher because i couldn't stand touchwiz, but man, im surprised that out of the box, it ran faster than my nexus 6. my tab s 8.4, which i just upgraded to lollipop, that also has touchwiz, is running significantly faster than my nexus 6. it's pretty unbelievable that a bloatware loaded version of android is running better than vanilla android. sometimes when im doing a google search, and the phone just freezes. sometimes i open an app, and it literally takes two minutes to open. doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be a nuisance.
i've been loading custom roms on my phones since the old galaxy s days, but im no longer doing that. too many issues with stability, battery life, etc. you shouldn't HAVE to load a custom rom just to have a decently running device.

i currently own the nexus six, which i've had since march. my previous experience with the nexus line was the galaxy nexus on verizon (which we all know was severely handicapped by verizon). i had a note 4 on sprint before i switched to the nexus 6 because i was sick of the slow updates.

When I read things like this, I see someone who got the Nexus 6, didn't like the device itself, and therefore nitpicked it to death to the point of convincing themselves of getting a new device.
1. Its encrypted by default. Encryption is always a trade off in performance (moreso on the N6), and your Tab isn't encrypted. A simple fix and a wipe was all that was needed.
2. You bought a Nexus knowing you wouldn't have carrier niceties. I think you missed this very important point and found out you like carrier additions.
3. See number 1.
4. Sure you have, the Galaxy Nexus. That said, you gave no details on your carrier, signal, battery usage, SOT, or anything else. You aren't looking for a solution, just a reason to get out.
Touchwiz is not faster than vanilla. Never has been, never will be for obvious reasons.

i think may statements have been misconstrued. i don't like bloatware, and i do like quick updates. the features i do miss are microsd slots (i still think it's stupid for google to not include them on the nexus - set yourself apart from apple), and removable batteries. i wanted wifi calling because the nexus 6 is supposed to have it (at least on tmobile) by the end of q1, still not here)
don't misconstrue this either, i hate apple, but ios comes encrypted out the box, and it doesn't lag like this. has google not found a way to keep up with apple? so i have to sacrifice the security of encryption in order to compete with a crappy iphone?
btw, my galaxy nexus got better battery life than mine nexus 6.

Yeah but you knew it didn't have an sd slot when you bought it. So if thats a reason to dislike it and you still bought it, you will have to blame yourself.
The wifi calling is a shortcoming of Tmo. Google had no intentions of writing that by themselves.
iPhone does very little I/O work. Of course encryption doesn't affect it. That said, you could have found a solution here to run encrypted with better performance too. You never looked it would seem. My daughter has an iPhone 6. I see nothing fast about it. Smooth, though Im sure some of it is covered up by long animations.
If your Gnex got better battery life than your Nexus 6, one of two things are happening here:
1. You are lying
2. This is a troll thread.

yeah, i don't like the device itself. why? because it's slow and has poor battery life.
1) i understand my tab s is not encrypted. i hate apple and will never buy anything from them, but iphones are encrypted out the box, and do not have issues like the nexus
2) the nexus 6 is supposed to have wifi calling by the end of q1 (im on tmobile). this is not a carrier nicety, but also a huge feature for google's own project fi.
3) encrypted or not, to the typical user, out the box, there is a marked difference between "touchwiz" and vanilla android. sorry, you can give the excuse that its encrypted, but this lag is unacceptable.
4) this device has worse battery life than my galaxy nexus. i would say battery life is worse than my thunderbolt from years ago. i reboot the phone several times a day, and i clear all the apps from my cache several times a day as well.

rofl, you assume im trolling/lying when i'm down to 37% by 12pm? right. god forbird i check emails, make phone calls, and listen to music/podcasts via bluetooth in my car. im constantly tethered to a portable charger because of this.
i knew it didn't have a microsd slot, i thought it was a worthy tradeoff for vanilla android and timely updates.
wifi calling IS a shortcoming of google, they were working with tmobile to implement it, and are going to use it with project fi. perhaps if you weren't a pretentious know it all, you would have taken 10 seconds to look that up.
if you think i'm just trollling, then pass on through buddy. im not sitting here begging for your advice or comments.

1. Again, you did nothing to fix the issue. You can get better performance from encryption as well. My Turbo had no discernible performance hit encrypted, so that should be a clue to you it can be remedied.
2. Project FI has diddly squat to do with Tmobile's Wifi calling, which again requires Tmobile to get it done. Blame the Nexus of course.
3. Put them on equal footing and decrypt your data. No? Then don't make claims like this.
4. The thunderbolt would die within 4 hours of medium use on LTE. The Gnex in 6-8. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and tell you your hardware is messed up, though I doubt you have zero interest in hearing that.
PS. Have you ever looked in your cache? It spends 95% of its life empty. What did you hope to accomplish by clearing it?

You just solved your own battery dilemma. 1) stop rebooting so much. I do it once every 24 hours.
2) stop clearing app cache so frequently. Each time you reopen the app, it has to rebuild cache, thus using more battery.
Bonus) Signal strength and reliability play a huge roll on battery life.
My Nexus is 100% stock, locked, and encrypted. I achieve 5 to 6 SOT with heavy use, everyday. I experience zero noticeable lag other than in Chrome. The Chrome lag is Chrome related, not Nexus related.
Have you ever tried greenify? Do you use the Facebook application? (Notorious battery drain) How many apps do you have auto-syncing? Is your location set to high battery use? Can you post screenshots of your horrible battery life? Evidence, please.
A Mod should close this thread. This OP is disgruntled because he spent his hard earned cash on something he doesn't like. It happens, sure, but why must you frustrate other people on this forum? My advice, stop arguing on a forum thread about a moot point and just sell your phone for something else.
Working 6 months with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (910F), 5 Years with Samsung
I am not a regular user / buyer. I have many smartphones and when I like a brand, i am buying everything i can from the same brand.
Until 5 years ago, I was working only with HTC. I bought 8 HTC smartphones.
And then I discovered Samsung.
From then, I bought 10 Samsung smartphones, 3 Samsung Smart TVs and more.
But my passion to Samsung started to crack, and all because of my Note 4 issues.
When I received the Note 4, it was amazing - excellent battery life, everything worked perfect.
And then came updates...
After the first update, the Note 4 started to have bluetooth issues - I need to make restart twice a day in order to work with my bluetooth headsets (even with Samsung headsets).
With more updates, the battery life dropped dramatically. After the Lollipop update, the battery is dropping 3-5% per hour, without using it. Android OS and bluetooth dropped the most.
Dont tell me to make hard reset - I made it twice.
Its time to leave Samsung and work with a company that can give me what Samsung gave me until two years ago.
Samsung will need to convince me that it improved before I will return.
using bluetooth everyday with my car audio, and bluetooth headset never had any problem.
battery life never changed for me with any update. 6 hours sot generally.
maybe the Exynos is better.
The exynos is not any better, I had it for nearly a month, but returned it yesterday. Just like the op, I became a fan of samsung since I bought the S3 because of the removeable back and exchangeable battery, memory card support, and of course the tons of roms here on XDA. I was a HTC user (Desire and Desire HD). Now Samsung seems to be going that route, so it is time for me to look for alternatives, but can't find one I like at the moment. Worse comes to worse when there is no manufacturer making removable battery and sd card support, I will not buy samsung. I would rather but a NEXUS phone which will have updates from google. Heck my dauthers' 3 year old Nexus 7 toys are still running 5.1.1 without me doing anything.
I understand what you're saying. I have the Note 4 now, before that a few Nokias, an LG G3, Sony Xperia Z2, and before that, the Note 2 (best phone I had owned). I'm very disappointed in Samsung's issues. If Samsung doesn't fix this issue before I get a new phone in a few months probably, I'll ditch Samsung for good. Battery life is horrible. Camera is good in AWESOME lighting conditions, and in EVERY OTHER condition, it's SOOO grainy and terrible! Focusing isn't good. My 2013 Nokia 1520 took MUCH better pictures than this Note 4, except in good lighting. Also, 4 different roms (all official) and I still have that STUPID multitasking button delay. My Samsung tablet from 2 years ago is MUCH faster at bringing up the multitasking screen! 2GB ram and SD800 processor w/ same resolution!
I really hate to say it, but I am very disappointed in all the money I spent in this phone. I should have returned it when I had the chance ... Xperia Z3, or Z4 now... LG G4... Nexus 6. I know EVERY device has its issues, but I always need 2 things: Battery life and good camera performance. From ALL the reviews, the Note 4 had these... I really can't trust reviewers on youtube... I guess they must praise the Samsung devices or else they won't get review units before release... Meh....
I really hope Samsung can fix these issues....
/rant off.
Updates to the software ruined it for you? Then go back to what it was like when everything was perfect.

No, even before updates ruined it, it was buggy from the get go. For example, I had the GPS tag problem right out of the box. When trying to take a picture, sometimes it wouldn't lock on to the GPS coordinates in time. Other phones will continue to try to find the GPS lock and then add it to the image a few seconds after the image is taken, but not the Note 4! That was a really big issue that was fixed with the update to Lollipop, but it brought along with it a whole slew of other issues. So no, updates didn't ruin it, updates fixed some things and broke others.
Returning back is not always smooth.
Any way - some of the updates are security updates so its a problematic not to update.
Yeah, I guess that will be my first and last samsung phone. Some months back I was unsure to get the nexus 6 or samsung note 4, because I wanted a bigger phone. Wish I had waited for the nexus 6...
Problem was not the hardware, that is really high quality and everything works like it should. Also batterie is fine, in most cases it was something else that kept the phone from sleeping, like google+.
Really awesome is the QI Case from samsung, so I can load wireless and it's protected (great quality!). Also the small window with infos
But the downside is the software and the efuse. I had many phones in my hands till now (it in our company) from mid/high end android, apple, tablets etc.
I NEVER had a software on a phone that pissed me off like samsung did. Compared to my nexus 4 I had before, the performance was abysmal. I knew TW was known to be slow, but I mean the cpu is fast as hell, 3 GB RAM etc. - that should count for something right? There is so much crap preinstalled and badly coded, it hurts.
Never wanted to root my phone, but I really needed to do it. With a custom mod and kernel it was a bit faster, also lolipop was better then 4.4.4 in subjective speed. But when I installed CM on the phone, I saw for the first time WHAT this piece of fine hardware can actually do. I also installed the same apps and no difference in speed. It was nice and fast like my nexus 4. Too bad I had to kick CM because of the bugs still around at that time. So it really is the software, nothing else.
My next phone will be a nexus again or - if good - something from LG, Sony or a Google play edition. If I could I would change it right now for a lg g4 or a nexus 6.
If samsung want's to be a real opponent to apple, they have to keep the changes to android at the lowest possible (like CM) and everything else as app. That would fasten updates by a wide margin. Also a business and private user brand with and without knox. And some kind of software selection system, that disables services or deinstalls them, if not needed like you won't need samsung link without a samsung tv.
