I actually bought the N5 before getting the N4. The fact is, I'm gonna get all of the Nexus devices (all new in box) just because I can. And I plan on using most of them.
But anyway, for those that aren't as Nexus obsessed as me, why did you stay with the N4? I know one answer I'm going to hear: "because it still does what I need". (fair enough)
Just interested in what people think.

Good response. Thanks for sharing.
Some of us are enthusiasts interested in other people's opinions and experiences.
I stayed with the N4 because I think it's more handy. It's a little smaller than the nexus 5 and since I have smaller hands I prefer the nexus 4. Also, the nexus 5's earpiece is weird (atleast for me)
I stayed because I didnt find mych difference and also Im in a condition that buying a new device will probably waste my time ! And also planing to move to google silver or iphone 6

That's different.
Hey, I totally understand why someone would stay with the N4. To be honest, I have relatively small phone needs. My Moto G actually did everything I needed and more. (I gave it to my mom) While we're at it, I bet the Galaxy Nexus would be more than enough for most people. But some people just like having the best. Not that I need it, I just like having it.
No doubt the Nexus 4 is still a strong player in the market. It will have no problem running 5.0
I just wish there was a CandyKat rom for the N4.
I know, a lot of people whom I've told about the earpiece think of it as a weird reason. I, however, just didn't like the design of the phone. But hey, that's just me. I love the moto g and x. They're both very handy phones and pretty solid performers too!
my reason :
- I got my N4 cheap (got $100 discount when I bought it).
- screen density is more than enough for my poor eyes. (tell you the truth I really can tell differences between 415ppi vs 318ppi).
- CPU sector, for me myself my nexus 4 is already fast enough. I mean this is a phone not a laptop/pc, I don't need huge clock speed or ram to play games.
only one two cent personal opinion.

I haven't owned a Moto X, but I know all about it. I bought the Moto G and was very happy with it. My tech-ego got in the way and told me I need a Nexus 5. I don't regret it one bit.

It is a great phone, no questions there
Why did you decide to stay with the N4 after the N5 was released?
I guess because not everyone is as independently wealthy as you. Geez, I just bought the thing only a year and a half ago. Assuming that someone keeps making OS updates for this phone on this forum to keep up with security updates, I will keep it for around the same time-frame as I refresh my main desktop computer, about 5 to 7 years. Heck, my older second desktop computer is 11 years old and runs various versions of Linux as well as XP just fine (Although I disabled XP because it was finally discontinued.) I understand it is the constantly changing hardware that forces Google to very quickly stop supporting OS upgrades on older devices (really just an excuse to sell more devices), but it is really ridiculous that my Nexus 4 will shortly become obsolete by Google's standards, unlike Microsoft who supports their operating systems for a very reasonable amount of time.
I stayed with my Nexus 4 because Nexus 5 didn't offer a significant difference in performance. I was able to compare that side by side, and the performance of my Nexus 4 was just fast as Nexus 5. So i saw no point in change.
As i'm a non gamer guy, i think Nexus 5 will perform better games than Nexus 4, but i really don't play much.
Personally speaking, changing phone every year (some people always want to stay on fashion), seems to me like throwing money away, i think it's better change of 2 in 2 years, then you'll notice more technology improvement.
Another situation, was when i saw the Nexus 5...i was totally disappointed with his design..i mean look at the Nexus 4...it has an amazing design, glass on the back, all seems to be in harmony.
In Nexus 5 it's just a phone...don't know...lack of personality, i guess....lol
Now, i'll be waiting for Nexus 6...let's see if it worth...
Most of the replies posted in the thread apply to me as well. Some additional thoughts that kept me away from the n5:
It feels better in my hands and the size was perfect. The main things I liked were the corners of the nexus 4 were more curved than the 5, and that the tapered edges of the n4 screen felt natural.
I also preferred the n4's "discrete" camera compared to the gigantic wart that's on the back of the n5.
Sent from my Nexus 4
I stayed because I won't jump to another phone until I see significant improvement in technology as nowadays it's just spec bumps. I think the 4th is more than enough to last for another 2 years. I'll probably change next year with the coming of L and 64bit phones and only if it really matters. Oh, and I'm not rich enough to change phone every year ?

No CandyKat? It is there, right here.
My reason? Saving up my money for my masters degree studies.
I got the N4 on contract which isn't up until March next year.
Being a student I couldn't afford to buy it outright, and obviously couldn't afford to buy the N5 when it came out.
I will, however, be buying the Nexus 6 the moment it's released. I should have my student loan through by then.
Priorities, right?
I think the Nexus 4 is a gorgeous looking phone (I'm a sucker for the glitter back) and I like how the edges curve as well, it is a unique design. It's also one of the most comfortable device to grip. Lastly, the size of the screen and phone are very similar to the Moto X, which is the ideal size for me. I believe LG went with cheaper production cost with the N5. I originally sold my N4, but when Android L preview image was announced, I was dying to try it out, so I bought another N4. I'm not planning to sell it again (I hope), there is a charm about this device that I like.
I to am a nexus lover. I did buy a n5, I do use it as my daily phone for the most part. but I do occasionally use my n4 as my phone as well. actually, I use my n4 and n5 every day. my n4 I use daily as a WiFi device at work. and it is still a great device! but those that say that the n4 is on par with the n5 when it comes to speed, are just kidding themselves. sure, in the ui, its just as fast as my n5. heck, my gnex is as fast in the ui as my n5. but I'm not talking ui, as any phone(even my nexus s) can have a fast ui if you set it up right. I'm talking opening apps/process, and computing. the n5 blows my n4 away when it comes to apps opening, and the speed of actually computing. anyways, that doesn't take away from my n4, as I do love it as part of my family
I stayed because it wasn't that BIG of an upgrade from the N4 to be honest. Definitely getting the N6 whenever its announce/released.
I got the my Nexus 4 when Google put them on sale last year before the 5's release. I'm in the process of convincing the wife that I need (aka want) a Nexus 5.
I am debating going for the nexus 6 or the G3. Normally I would be all over the nexus but with the recent unlocking of the ATT version of the G3 I a now torn. Has anyone left the G3 for the nexus, and can you tell me why you left? How did they each compare : screen, camera, quickness?
Probably a little premature with the question since the first people are just getting the Nexu 6 delivered today.

Just wanted to get it out there early. See if any one wanted to chime in on why they are leaving the G3 or had any info that would be helpful.
I have the G3 and can't decide what to do. This years round of phones was difficult.. they all had some kind of flaws. The only real flaw of my G3 is the lag. I have it pretty customized at this point and have gotten it to a very minimal amount. Standby time is awesome.. SOT sucks. I wish the screen temp wasn't quite so cold, and the over sharpening does get annoying to look at. Then again, knock code, IR blaster, removable battery and sd card, laser auto focus camera... ugh, such troubling first world problems.

I have both and in keeping both. I love my G3 and its fantastic camera. Both phones serve s different purpose for me but the G3 camera focuses faster than the Nexus r due to it's laser. I just got my Nexus so I can't fat to much else but I'll update you when I get more of a feel for it. It's a big phone but result manageable with my average sized hands. The screen isn't as bright as the G3 but it's easier to read on the sun for me. The Nexus also feels more solid to me and I love the size.

I think I am leaning toward the Nexus just based on specs alone. The 805 paired with 3gb and 420 gpu are good enough to last for a couple of years I think. Coupled with the updates and I hope it will be a solid device. Just want to make sure. $700 is a big chunk of change to drop n a device and not be satisfied.

I had the G3 Cat 6 (SD805 model) and the regular SD801 G3. I sold the cat 6 one and got the Nexus instead. I love both phones but each serves a different purpose for me the nexus will take some getting used to but I really enjoy it. I don't think I could choose just one right now but the Nexus is faster than my cat 6 G3 so it's worth it to me. It also makes my regular G3 look slow. I've had a G3 since launch back in May (3 models total) and I wouldn't sell my last one because I like it too much. The nexus is great its a solid phone with a nice screen and good battery and I will be using this as my DD for now. I can't wait to get TWRP and custom ROMs because that's why I have the Nexus. I'm probably rambling on but that's just because I'm excited about using my Nexus 6( I'm typing this on it)
ill be leaving my g3 in the dust come wednesday. the battery life sucks really bad with the snap 801. i cant even tell you my Sot because i had to charge my phone twice today.
Lately ive had issues with the g3 where ill double tap to wake and/ or press the unlock button and it wont respond.
I also told myself when i got my nexus 5 that i would never get another carrier branded phone.
Double two to wake doesnt work on my nexus 6 but it does work on my nexus 9. I miss tapping to wake but both phones are still great.

No please continue rambling.
I've grown to hate my g3. The battery seems good to me. The screen and camera r great but it just lags way too much, the screen always turns back on after using the button to lock it. I've also had problems with data where I have to turn it off and back on to get it to work at an acceptable speed. Now the other day I noticed it has the famous crack at the bottom mic.
Motorola nexus has always been my dream phone and while I will miss a few features of LG I actually like and the ir blaster which I use all the time, I won't look back. My last nexus I was very happy with for 2 years and I think this will be a great phone. Can't beat Motorola build quality.

I've sold My lg g3 for The Nexus 6 it will be my first Nexus device. I loved everything about the lg g3 I brought it day one and didnt have any problems with it. I've been waiting on Motorola to make a Nexus phone. I will miss knock code, the laster auto focus,ir blaster, the way they had the power buttons and volume buttons. Also for the sd card but I brought a WD wifi drive for that problem.
This benchmark is pretty good considering my phone was warm and charging when I tested it.
I'm coming from the G3. I like the 3 and think it's a great phone though. It has started to lag a little bit, but I'm running a lot of modules on it and those may be the cause.
The only real thing that I never liked about it was the colors. Both colors suck imo. The blue N6 sucks for the color too from what I've seen. So it's like an even trade.
The main reason I'm leaving it is because I'm on Jump and the N6 has a few features I want.
I'm also coming from the G3. I've had a great experience with the G3. I originally came from the G2 and the G3 was a great upgrade. I'm averaging about 5hrs SOT on the G3 and that's with constantly playing Clash of Clans. So I'm pretty happy with it so far. I'm running Darkwulfs Beta 2 BTW. It was an impulse buy while I was waiting for the Moto X and Nexus 6. But I have pre-ordered my N6 and can't wait to get it. Last year I was anticipating the N5 but jumped the gun impulsively on the G2. I did it again this year with the G3. Can't wait to have this behemoth any time this week. I just got my dad a Note 4 so I can't wait to compare the phones side by side along the G3.

I really want that because I hate the google camera. It won't install normally and there no root to yet so I can't move it manually to see of it will work.
I'm considering getting the N6 and I was hoping for some thoughts from anyone who had a N5 and moved to the 6. I love my N5 but I just wish it has better battery life. I am honestly torn between the N6 and the Note 4, so I'm hoping some of you can help me make up my mind. [emoji3]
Things I like about the N6: open platform and lots of development, large battery, decent camera, lollipop, and water resistant. I am just a little concerned that it is just too big a phone.
Things I like about the Note: lots of features, S-pen, decent battery, good camera, better form factor than N6, replaceable battery, ability to expand storage via SD card.
I am not thrilled about Touchwiz, and the fact that the At&t variant is totally locked down with no development community.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Just my opinion, but I do not like the style of the Galaxy Note nor the Galaxy S series of devices. I think the Nexus 6 is more aesthetically appeasing. But the Nexus 5 is one of my favorites. A powerhouse of a phone in a sleek black jacket.
Have you guys found it a problem to get the N6 in your pockets? How are you getting around with it?

no, it fits just fine. that was my problem, i envisioned it being too big. but its not as big as you think it is. if youf nexus 5 fits in your back pocket, the the nexus 6 will as well.
I've used a Nexus 5, but I never owned one. I have a LG G3 which is a child's toy to me when I use it. As Simms said the Nexus 6 feels normal after a while. I've had mine for a month today actually and I haven't looked back. Once your get a Nexus phablet you don't go back.
I whole heartedly love the N5. I have jumped to many different devices (oneplus, note 3, g3, etc) but i kept coming back to the N5. The battery life drove me nuts, but the dev community is amazing.
I love the feel and real estate of bigger phablet sized phones, I just hate the software. I had the Att version of the note 3, but the dev scene was crippled due to the locked down bootloader and knox. Im not sure if its that way with the note 4 now.
The nexus 6 fits in my pocket fine, but its impossibe to use with one hand unless you have big hands. As mentioned before going back feels small (I felt this way goimg back to the N5 from the oneplus). You do get use to it though.
If you like the stock android, and can deal with the size. By all means go for the N6. It feels like a premium device. If youre into the bells and whistles software wise go for the note. To me the deciding factor is the dev community. Its quiet now for the N6 (mainly because its ridiculously tough to get it right now), but it will pick up as more and more people obtain it. I dont feel confident in the same for the note.
Thats just my opinion. Hopefuly i help.
I like the form factor of the note 4 much better. The nexus 6 is too wide. Having said that you cant beat stock android.
I had a nexus 5 and the nexus 6 is much bigger. I feel like the performance is very similar. Front facing speakers and almost double the battery life (screen on time) is very nice. The phone fits in all the pockets i used for my nexus 5 so carrying it around isn't an issue.

Still love the Nexus 6 though. I was updating my Nexus 5 tonight, and man it feels like the small iphone 2g in my hands
Thanks so much guys. I feel like if I go the Note route I will be happy for awhile bit then after I get used to the phone Touchwiz will start to get old and I'll be itching for a change. With the N6 I'll always be able to flash something different and keep things interesting.
It seems like all of you guys are getting used to the size of the N6 so that definitely helps alleviate some of those concerns.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk!
I came from the N5 its a fantastic little phone. The N6 is very large as you know. Too large for some. I'd give it the old 14day college try and see if it's for you. Might not be. It won my heart over but it wasn't immediate mind you. It took some time getting used to the size. As for the display they're very different. Again, something you'll need to experience for yourself to see if its for you. I can't comment on the note 4, but I do come from long line of Sammy devices and still have 3 in our family. Nothing they've done in the last 2 years or are doing at present interests me. They are stagnant, beyond boring, and aesthetically look very cheap. That's the truth and good luck deciding
I have larger hands and can almost use the note with one hand, but it fits in all my pockets just fine.
I came from the N5 as well. The battery life for me is amazing I charge once a day in the morning and don't change again until the next day.
The note may have touch wiz and expandable memory, but when the device gets in more hands (i see people are still having trouble getting it) the development will be great.
an open device with the best specs. and when you get board there will be so many roms you can flash.
I would definitely get the N6.
Nexus 6 is so huge compared to the Nexus 5 feel so kind of you know what I hold the Nexus 5 damn Google Voice sucks laugh
Via my NeXus™ 7FHD on XDA Premium app
I came from an N5 and there is no looking back. Everything is better (except one-handed use) and you don't even notice the size after a week.
I'm 6" 185 lbs and wear skinny jeans. Zero issues. Lol.
I have both. I'm still getting use to the size, but I don't mind it to much. The one thing I don't like is I'm super paranoid of dropping it because its so slippery and wide no homo. I would never use a Samsung unless it was a nexus.
fcuk milk, got root?

Former G3 owner here. The nexus is superior in many ways to the G3. No disappointment here. Bigger screen, no lag, faster updates, much more development.
I owned a G3. Love my Nexus in most ways. The G3 was only superior in two ways. 1) The camera in the G3 was better, if only slightly. 2)The native double tap to wake was a lot more consistent in the G3 than the patched in version on the N6. Other than that, I'm loving my N6.
I would never get any LG phones again, the Nexus is so much better.
Former G3 owner, happy with the G3, super happy with the N6
Thanks for your reply`s guys, but for now in guess i`ll stick with the G3 Held the N6 in my hand and i find it a bit to big for my taste.
I didn't feel the size from my G3 to my N6 was too big. Actually, it's amazing how fast people adapt to the larger size. I love my G3, like my N6. The G3 does have a better camera than the N6 IMO, but with the manual camera apk, it did enhance the N6 camera a little. The N6 still has some bugs on stock, but all stock lolli builds suffer right now. If you were thinking of switching to get a better stock device, meh, but having Nexus is something all together different in approach.

I thought that at first and still made the jump. The size difference has faded. The only down side was I can no longer stick my phone in one of the side pockets in my cargo pants. Though, once cased the G3 didn't fit either.
All in all, i am happy with the jump.
Seeing that it's difficult to get a N6 of the right size/color that I want, I'm deterred of not getting one anymore. I have an LG G3 rooted and with the latest build, 5.0.2. This rom is smooth as butter and can do everything the N6 can besides the size of the phone. Loving my LG and I'm holding off on getting the N6.

Love the g3 still in the household but I could not go back unless forced .
I came from a G3. N6 is hands down better. No lag either as someone else mentioned. The G3 was too laggy for me and would lock up a lot, not sure if it was a ROM issue, but I am enjoying the N6 much more. G3 did have a better camera, but the N6 camera is still great. I do sort of miss the buttons on the G3, I like that concept.

I`am considering buying the Nexus 6 64GB. I have the LG G3 32GB atm and i wonder if the switch is realy worth it in daily use and batterylife. If there are former G3 owners here please do share you`re thoughts.
Thanks in advance :good:

Love my N6 over the G3
Battery wise I'm charging as much as before, maybe a little less, the office has horrible signal for ALL carriers but the Nexus seems to get a signal and keep it better, I'll only give a top off charge towards the end of the day to be safe on the long commute home, car is a POS and the lighter does not work

As much as I liked my G3, I flat out love the Nexus 6. I had slightly better battery life with the G3, probably due to the smaller screen. After getting rid of the 5.0 enforced encryption on the Nexus 6, mine has absolutely no lag, which plagued the G3 even though it wasn't encrypted. The "out of the box standard" wireless charging works quite well on the Nexus 6, and I didn't have to buy a new rear cover like I did on the G3. My G3 ran quite hot when charging on my wireless charger, the Nexus 6 does not. The G3 processor also ran very hot (140-160 degrees Fahrenheit when it was working pretty hard), but my Nexus 6 runs about 50 degrees cooler as reported by the same software program on both phones. The Nexus 6 never feels hot in my hands. The Nexus 6 can also pull a signal and hold calls in areas the G3 would drop calls consistently, however the signal meter on the Nexus 6 exaggerates or is just plain overly optimistic - but who cares? It holds calls.much better than my G3.
Was it worth the switch from the G3? In my opinion yes.
As long as you're looking for opinions..

I'm on the fence. Like the bigger display screen on Nexus but I really liked the G3 tweek box and exposed framework. Did not have to keep trying new ROM's and stuff. The LG use of buttons and native tap to wake were exceptional and the Nexus fails horribly in that department by comparison. Battery life was more or less the same. Reception on radio was more or less the same as well. The balance of the phone was better on the G3. I'm hoping that the next update from google will add some of the missing functionality but from what I've been reading in the tech news, I don't think it will. No notification lights seems to be the way Android is heading for reasons I don't quite understand. I mean sure a deaf person may have trouble seeing a little notification light, but I think that should be a accessibility option and not a only one choice. A navigation bar that is not natively able to hide is another thing I think android wants to support. There is many more but like I said in the beginning, I'm on the fence, I want to like my Nexus I really do, but Android is making it very hard to do so. I don't know if other companies will be onboard with Lollipop and if they have developers who can work around some of these inconveniences. Let's hope that Microsoft backs Cynogen the right way and gives us some other options for OS's. If I had it to do all over again, I would wait for more phones to be released and weigh my options more carefully then. Peace.
I prefer the screen size of the N6 and to me the plain Android experience is also better, but I really miss the tap to wake and LED on the G3. It just seems crazy that this was left out as an option on the N6.
Both phones suffer from random shutdowns for me though, mostly after taking a photo when WiFi is not present.
Just got myself a nexus 6 and have to say that I was sad to see the g3 go. Absolutely loved the button placement and for factor. But, I can tell my n6 will be my favorite. Can't beat stock Android and the screen is amazing, not to mention the speakers. Battery is on par with the g3. I say pick one up if u can.
I'm coming from n5 and really wanted to upgrade to n6p until I saw the price! This is one of reasons I didn't upgrade to n6 when it was released last year, the other being that it seemed too big!...
I recently purchased n6 64gb for about £200 from rakuten (£200 as got £80 worth of points)... I'm a tinkerer and love timely updates to OS when Google releases new versions and hence why I really wanted you stay with nexus, plus the fact that there's more development for nexus devices than any other devices...
I've requested a return but not received the RMA yet... I was probably going to stay with n5 until n6p prices come down or buy either moto x style or g4 whichever received timely Android 6 update...
Any advice / suggestions welcome ? Am I going to regret sending n6 back especially considering the price (my main reason for sending back is the size... Seems like a spade in my hand and I've had a look and no other manufacturer has released such a ginormous phone recently... Even Google played safe this time with 5.7")...same as note 5!...
Also, as current owners of n6 what would you say about the size? Have you learnt to live with it or do you love the size that any smaller you would find hard to accept?
ginormous.. its all related to how you personally see the world. i had a n5, bought a n6, grabbed my n5 3 days later and it felt way to small. i im not a big person. im 5'7", with medium small hands. and the n6 feels so perfect in size.
I love my n6. I will get the n6p for no reason when it goes down in price. My n6 was 300. Oh yea I will be giving it to my sister and keeping the n6p. I would keep the n6 if I was you. For the reason that there is not one phone out there like it. This phone is so unlocked unblocked. You can never stop doing so much to it. Hopefully n6p is as equal.
I had a nexus 6 then I jumped to an S6 then Note 5 and now I'm back to a Nexus 6 if that tell you anything.
N6 was only "Too big" for about 2 hours. Now it feels so normal I think all other phones are to small. But I do think that n6 is the maximum size phone for me.
Many thanks for all the replies...much appreciated. Going to sleep over it but looking more like I'll be keeping it now ????
I came from a N5 about 2 weeks ago. Always felt the N6 was too big, but after the recent price drops on it at Amazon I bought one... 2 days later I got used to it fully and now love the size. Even my wife who is tiny, is starting to like the size of the phone. I loved the N5 but at this point I feel the N5 is just too small now. I love the N6. But I get that the N6 is not for everyone.
I've used the N6 off and on since February, and I still feel it's to big, sane as the Xperia z ultra I had. Note 4 was a better size, though somewhat awkward to hold for me. My bit to small, but i I'm switching back to it when ever my brother sends it back to me. I was going to get the N6P but I think I'll wait a bit, maybe get the Xperia Z5P.

Nexus6 is big but I got use to it... Now I'm going to try the Nexus6P which could be the sweetspot!
The nexus 6 and note 4 are the same size over all lol

Similar but not exactly same... Note 4 about 5mm+ smaller in length and width and does not feel as big as n6 (I purchased note 4 about 6 months ago and it turned out to be fake so sent it back to fleebay seller!)...
RMA paperwork has come - decision time!!!!!
I am get used to the N6 size in just a few days, came from N5.
And now, I cannot have phone with smaller screen size.
5.7" is OK, but N6P is ridiculously expensive right now. So, I am holding not to upgrade. Besides, N6 is still decent, great performance, great battery life (even better with Android 6.0)!

the 6p is bigger with a smaller screen...sweetspot?
Right I think I'm keeping the phone but before I start messing about with it I need to know what to check to ensure I don't have a faulty phone or refurbished unit sold as new as I've read in a few places...
Any common problems to watch out for please?
Thanks
speaker distortion, yellow tint, half screen glitched, loose speaker grill, peeling letter on back. there are probably drive I forgot. you can search earliest threads in Q&A I think.
well i recently bought the Nexus 6, and i love it to bits.
i always was a Sammy fan but i got sick of the source codes not being released for the Exynos models of theirs... and their latest Phones s6 etc. are kind of locked completely so i made a jump to the Nexus 6 from my Note 4 which i still have,
and damn even though the Nexus 6 is bigger it feels so much better than my Note 4, and the bigger plus point is the Custom Rom section it got loads of Roms.
i even think that it looks way way better than the new Nexus 6p , it depends on you and your wallet in the end though.
i would suggest keeping your current Nexus 6 simply because it is a beautiful beast , it rocks.
my only minus poiint is that the battery is abit disappointing .

Thanks - Just like you I was a big Sammy fan until I tried a Nexus 4 and instantly loved the speed and experience...and not long after decided to purchase Nexus 5 which i've nearly had for two years and still loving it...but wanted a change!
I was going to give Sammy another go with either S6 or Note 4 until I saw their ridiculous prices and lack of memory expansion not to mention swappable battery (though this would not bother me if the manufacturers use a decent size battery!)...and thought nah...Sod Samsung for their arrogance, they wont get my custom!
