CF root with ATT branded XT1097
Does anyone know if the new CF root method that came out today will work with ATT branded XT 1097? Since we are not able to unlock bootloader directly from Motorola?
Thanks!

I'm new here, I'm not sure I'm doing this procedure is correct, but I come humbly to know if someone could provide some alternative link in order that the post of the early links are down? Now, thank you !!!

Moto X BL discrepancy
I have a Mot X (2014) and after multiple attempts to unlock the BL, I'm stumped. It's a VZW and everytime I input the code string on Moto's site they inform me that the phone is ineligible for BL unlocking.

Do not think that VZW allows the BL unlock same with ATT.

What to use for Verizon xt1096? Is it safe to try both 95 and 97 and see what doesn't fail?
Root for Moto X 2014 XT1096
Does anyone know if there has been an update for rooting the xt1096? I know that the 1095s and the 1097s both have roots available for them but does the 1096? If so where would it be found?
In response to #8, Verizon doesn't let us unlock our bootloaders, and both of the methods (for the 1095 and 1097) require an unlocked bootloader. That means we will need another way to gain root. (Just incase you're wondering, I double checked that those methods won't work by trying to use them on my 1096. Both failed, thus resulting in nothing changing...)
Works on my brazilian xt1097?
if I have a XT1095 rooted on Lollipop, I will get updates? or a I need to reflash the stock boot.img?

rooted on 5.0.1 with cf root + stock recovery. would a factory reset through stock recory be a problem? would I loose root privileges in the process? thanks

You will still get updates, but when you try to flash the update it will fail due to modifications made to the system. If you modded the boot.IMG then you will need to reflash the stock boot.IMG. You will also need to flash the stock system.IMG since it was modified with root access. Once you are completely stock again you can take the update without any issues.
locked hell
I'm in the same boat. I paid full price for what I hoped would be an unlocked phone, but I still got a fully crap-wared phone for use with Verizon. Bootloader is locked, so I'm not sure where that leaves me. I bought this direct from Moto, so not sure how Verizon is still allowed to lock me down.
thank you!
Guys, I have a xt1097 brazilian version. I would like to know if this cf auto root works for me, I'm running android 5.0 with a locked bootloader. It's better unlock bootloader an then use the cf auto root? Or is it better to use cf auto root with the bootloader locked? Does this work with xt1097 running 5.0?
Thank you!
Bye!

Verizon (non-Dev Edition), ATT and Republic Wireless can not unlock their bootloader. It has been this way since the 2013 X went on sale.
Its likely due to contracts between Moto and those carriers.
It is possible!!
I just did it earlier today, google "sunshine moto x" I had trouble initially but went on the site talked to the dec and he fixed the app for me, I am now unlocked deciding which 5.0 rom I want to go with. (sucks no moto apps until they relase the official )

I tried sunshine 3.0.3 on a VZW 4.4.4 non-dev phone and it couldn't achieve temp root. You are saying that it worked for you on a VZW locked non-dev 4.4.4 phone?
Edited: Just tried it on 3.0.4 as well. No joy.

I think it depends on how you got to 4.4.4. If you took the official OTA, like I did, you're out of luck.

Yeah, that is what I suspect. I am pretty sure if JCase had added support for the moto x in sunshine, he would've announced it by now. Lots of money to be had.

Sunshine relies on your phone being rooted, or the tool being able to obtain temp root.
4.4.4 on the 2013 Verizon Moto X, or most/all 2013 Moto X on locked bootloader, hasn't been rooted, and the tool can't temp root the phone.
So if you have 4.4.4 on the 2013 Moto X, do not expect Sunshine to work.
If you have never updated the 2013 Moto X to 4.4.4, then Sunshine will likely work just fine.

I took the soak test leak and pushed it to my phone and I can't unlock my boot loader either I don't think it has anything to do with that :/

Did you update everything or did you individually update components? I think it came down to whether or not people updated the bootloader when they updated to 4.4.4. There was a way to update without updating the bootloader and I think it's those phones that sunshine works for. I'm far from an expert though; I could definitely be wrong.

But gchase23 did NOT say what rom was on his phone BEFORE using Sunshine.. only that he was now unlocked and trying to decide on which 5.0 rom to run.

People were being "cute" and manual flashing SBF's but skipping GPT.BIN and Motoboot.img (two parts that can't be downgraded).
However, as I understand it, this doesn't change the fact that 4.4.4 can't be rooted or temp rooted by Sunshine, which prevents it from working. It does mean that if done this way, they could likely downgrade to their previous SBF which matches the GPT.Bin/Motoboot (probably 4.4.2), and still use sunshine.

Dude, did you read what I quoted? He said sunshine unlocked his moto x. The OP specifies 4.4.4 and he said "I just did it", implying he was on 444.
I think you are skipping over a bit and replying only to parts of what I asked. I am well aware that sunshine won't work on 444. He stated he unlocked his with sunshine... Using only the words " I did it". I asked if he was on 444.

Its implied, but I've been on these boards enough to question when its not explicitly stated.
I was hoping he'd come back and provide confirmation that he was on 4.4.4, and what bootloader was on his phone

And that is exactly what I was getting at.
When asked about the future of sunshine for the 2013 moto x, JCase said "not anytime soon."

Ugh... Take a look at this post by gchase23 from a few nights ago -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...6gb-bootloader-unlocked-t3057964/post59532395
Notice he says "XT1060 4.4.3 VZW - Rooted" Um, XT1060 never had 4.4.3, only 4.4.2 and 4.4.4. So I'm not sure we'll get a straight answer, because I replied asking for clarification, and didn't get a response.

Oh wow. Yeah, something is a bit off there.
JCase said something a while ago about a bunch of exploits he would be releasing. I was/am really hoping there would be something that we could use to gain root on the 2013 Moto X, but with his last comment on twitter, I'm not so sure that is going to happen.
If I were in any other situation, I would be looking for a new phone, but two things are preventing it. First, I love the Moto X and haven't found another phone I like better. Second, MY moto x is already unlocked (I held on to 4.4 until Sunshine came out). Its my wifes and my fathers that are not. Somehow they ended up on 4.4.4 without knowing it. They claim it just happened while they were sleeping. I more quickly suspect they tapped on it thinking it was an app update from the app store. But in any event, their phones are still locked.
i have unlocked the bootloader of my Moto G and rooted it, but still on stock rom. So, will i still get updates from Motorola.
If not will I get updates if i unroot and lock my bootloader. if yes can i know how ?
Thanks In Advance
Model No : XT1068
You'll still get updates with updated bootloader. However, you won't get OTA updated if you've rooted your phone.
When there's a news of an update, just flash the factory images and wait for ota. No need of locking bl

I received a 2014 Moto X xt1095 as an RMA replacement from Motorola for my old 2013 Moto X. It's the T-Mobile model, xt1095 which is supposed to be unlockable. For whatever reason there appears to be something funky I about the bootloader where despite an all zero CID, unlock token requests to the bootloader return "(bootloader) Could not get unlock data!"
I've been told that probably have to re-return this to Motorola, which would be a giant pain in the butt. Is there anything to either brute force the unlock code or root it without unlocking the bootloader?

You can try rooting without unlocking bootloader.

Well, sad News first, I think you won't be able to unlock the bootloader.
Now the good News, You can definatly try rooting your device without a bootloader unlocked. Try applications like Kingroot. Infact, as far as I know, you don't even Need a Computer(Desktop/Laptop) to root.
I was able to root my motoX2014 sucessfully without boot unlocked. Let us know if it works for you:fingers-crossed:.
I would call Motorola. An XT1095 should be unlockable right out of the box. The bad news is you'll probably have to swap it out. If they sent you a bad one, make them ship the new one to you first so you won't be without a phone.
Thanks to both of you. I'll look at king root, and even try bullying Motorola into getting me fixed up properly without leaving me to use my Moto g again. I appreciate the help and the morale boost.

i have verizon moto x, it doesnot say dev ed on back, only verizon.
it currently runs 4.4.4
and in boot loader it says device is unlocked. status code 3.
but in "the complete moto x guides/information" thread it lists verizon moto x as unlockable.
i want to get root following the same guide.(twrp flash, su flash).
is it safe for me to do that?
Yes, if it says unlocked status code 3 you can get root via twrp, su flash

thanks, much appreciated also its alright if i flash any 5.1.1 rom( like cm12) right? ofcourse after flashing cm11
Yes, but I'm not sure the latest ones will work with the older 4.4.4 bootloader and modem. Probably would be best to upgrade it to stock lp first. Don't worry it once bootloader is unlocked it won't relock
Edit:also you don't need to flash Cm 11 first first anymore. And the safest way to upgrade to stock lp is probably via rsd
