When I flash TWRP through ODIN on N920C, phone will reboot but no TWRP installed i see msg "update system......" and after get normal system recovery
Have you tried flashing via Download mode? Download the img file from the Arter website. Reboot to download mode (Google) and then flash recovery using fastboot on your pc (again, Google is your friend - there are plenty of sets of instructions out there for this step)
Also have you enabled OEM unlock in developer settings?

You need to force the device to go to recovery mode
1- flash the recovery
2- once the screen turn off keep pressing on the recovery mode 2 ~ 3 times till you boot to TWRP
3- if you fails, repeat again from 1

i have a symphony roar a50 (Bangladesh). it was running everything stock and updated with twrp 2.8.7.0 without root. bootloader was unlocked.
i was trying to root the device with the AIO from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro.../android-one-toolkit-unlocks-relocks-t3294448
the phone suddenly rebooted in the middle of the process and was stuck in a bootloop. i tried to factory reset it but it still didn't work. was still on boot loop.
then i tried to flash the appropriate stock firmware but that didn't help it wont boot. stuck on the boot logo for 1.5 hrs. then tried CM13 nightlies and the cyanpop roms. still nothing.
i am currently in a state of shock as this is a fairly a new phone and i am to travel to Chittagong in ~11 hours.
please help
don't you take a backup ?
and don't you wipe every thing before flashing the cm13 ?

I too Had the same Problem once as I Tried Rooting My Android One through the same method as u did, So for fixing it I prefer that U FLASH The Stock MM ROM for Ur Device through STOCK Recovery ( Remember to Wipe Cache and Data b4 Flashing ) AND then ur Device mst be Fixed ( This method worked for me ) And Dude if u want to root Ur Device Follow This Method : -
1) FLASH TWRP RECOVERY
2) Reboot into Recovery and FLASH Thunderzap 5.1 Kernel through Recovery
3) Then FLASH SUPERSU ZIP from Recovery
4) Reboot And Done ! Ur Device is Rooted ! ?

Thanks I'll try this asap currently on a train..
Okay.. I've shipped it to the customer care. They said I'll have to wait 3 days for it to get back. I'll report back then.
Thank you everyone for your input.
Closed as this has run its course.
Warning don't try this if you are new to rooting.. wait for more confirmation
I've successfully rooted my phone using these steps:
Download the TWRP recovery image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/vivo-xl/development/recovery-t3311601 credit @jemmini
Download SuperSU from http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu-beta
Enable Developer Options
Enable OEM unlock
Enable USB Debugging
Reboot phone bootloader (adb reboot bootloader or vol up + power)
fastboot oem unlock
vol up to confirm unlock
your phone will ask you to reboot but vol up and vol down doesn't do anything. (other were having issue with boot looping here because of this..)
fastboot reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp-recovery.img (the file downloaded in step 1)
fastboot reboot
while the phone is rebooting, press and hold vol up (this will launch TWRP recovery)
Optional: do not enable write access (for backup purpose)
select wipe, format data, type in yes (this fixes the boot looping issue -- credit @acotto)
now make a backup of your phone
Copy supersu.zip to your phone
install supersu.zip
To make TWRP recovery permanent: rename or delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p
reboot
your phone will take awhile to boot up since it has to rebuild all of your applications for the first time.
Edit:
I haven't figured out how to make TWRP permanent yet. Blu is restoring the stock recovery on reboot.
Thanks for the write up, looks really promising.
For those who need fastboot, I used this All in One to get it set up on my PC. I am running Windows 10 and it installed and worked just fine.
Followed the instructions above and achieved root. Thanks to OP for the great instructions.

Don't unlock bootloader, it's not needed.
For now, use recovery restore to original ROM, clear data/cache in recovery, then you should be able to boot.

I have already given a big warning about this unlock bootloader, why didn't you read ?
Click the link, the solution is there. Generally, install TWRP, then restore from the image given.

Had tried kingroot, kingoroot and other root tools.

Why won't this work?! I can't even load TWRR once. It always boots and then re-boots to the original recovery. Pushing volume up after flashing the twrr recovery doesn't go into recovery mode.

Is it okay to change or delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p before loading the recovery.img of TWRR??
What version of android is this working on? I'm on the latest
How do I get out of this bootloop?

what version of android should I have installed for this tutorial to work?
Hi guys,
my P10 (stock rom, rooted and TWRP installed) says I can install a new system update: VTR-L09C02B151
So it downloads the update, then reboot, but TWRP shows up and so no update is done.
How can I install this update?
Thank you
Would probably need to be on stock recovery

It's easy:
===============================
Step 1 - Back to Stock recovery:
Download this recovery - https://mega.nz/#!ucAnQD5D!VZETUq38R_drskwFgOXz_aK9wIsoIlbjUS5KHrULcTY
Connect your phone to PC and run these commands
adb devices (check your phone is connected)
adb reboot bootloader (reboot in fastboot mode)
fastboot devices (check your phone is in fastboot mode)
fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.img (flash to stock recovery)
fastboot reboot (reboot the phone)
==================================
Step 2 - Download System Update and install it
Go to Settings -> System Update -> Check for Update
==================================
Step 3 - Flash TWRP again
Download TWRP 3.1.1-2 - https://mega.nz/#!8JwhzBzD!jiuod03amEPlWpo1LD7GWiwP62Z9I97F_TEarmXRrFU
Download SuperSU 2.82 for EMUI5 - https://mega.nz/#!WAYhHRwC!KAaTqWDID9-0e4s4RuKmUN_AKWBPjDJ0ynTXi7sYAv4
Put the 2.6.SuperSU2.82-EMUI5-SelEnforcing.zip in your SD card
Connect your phone to PC and run these commands
adb devices (check your phone is connected)
adb reboot bootloader (reboot in fastboot mode)
fastboot devices (check your phone is in fastboot mode)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (flash to TWRP)
fastboot boot recovery.img (reboot into recovery)
Go to "Install" menu and choose storage "Micro SD card" and install 2.6.SuperSU2.82-EMUI5-SelEnforcing.zip
Go to "Reboot" menu and press System for normal reboot.
Tested and works on my WAS-LX1C432.
Maybe this guide can be no more valid..
On my P10, updating from B179 to B180 (due to system notification) and TWRP/root installed, update process fails always.
So I extracted recovery.img from B179 Full-OTA update, flashed over TWRP and started system upgrade process, who completed successfully to B180.
However now I get FRP Unlock, (as before update) but PHONE Locked.
So system upgrade has overwrited the unlocked bootloader with a locked one.
Now, to reflash TWRP and apply root, I've to "fastboot oem unlock *Here Huawei Code*" for the second time, loosing all my apps, datas and settings!!
And each time a new update is available is the same way.. you have to go back to stock, and a new unlock will loose all your data....
Really annoying!
Step 2 - Download System Update and install it
Go to Settings -> System Update -> Check for Update
Click to collapse
So once I got to this part, it downloaded the update and then the phone rebooted into the stock eRecovery, but whenever it would try and install the update, it would say "Getting package info failed." Any ideas?
Hey I know I'm bumping here, but I'm seriously still at a loss with this. Stock recovery flashes fine, but every single time I try to install the new update, it comes up with ""Getting package info failed." If anyone has experienced this, it'd be great to get it resolved.
I had Resurrection rom installed in my K3 note and needed to sell the phone. So performed a complete wipe of the internal storage and tried to install AICP rom later (TWRP), it shows flashed successfully, but whenever I am booting my phone, it always boots to recovery only. Downloaded the SP flash tool to go back to stock rom with stock firmware, but as soon as I plug my phone woth my laptop with the USB cable, (which is switched off at this moment) after clicking the download option in the SP Flash tool, it just again boots back to recovery and the stock firmware's download never happens because my phone has booted into recovery. So i guess no use of SP Flash tool too.
I am able to connect my phone to my laptop and can see my internal storage and i can transfer files too.
Any help,?
Current rom flashed via TWRP - AICP v4.2 and Gapps micro (arm 64, pico) (Still stuck in booloop to TWRP only )
I am having the same issue! I've selected to restore factory settings and bam, it boots only to TWRP, I've tried to flash it with new rr rom (09.2017) but it is without any improvement still TWRP.
I think I'll try to do things like I did when changing it from stock model.
My phone TWRP-looped many times. The solution is actually easy.
1. Reflash using SPFlashtool ONLY the stock recovery
2. boot into stock recovery
3. choose english > press reboot phone
4. phone will reboot into rom without problemos
5. reflash TWRP
cheers
or
1. Copy stock recovery.img into sdcard
2. In twrp, select Install and navigate to where you put stock recovery.img
3. Press install image. Then, Select recovery.img. Slide to install
4. boot into stock recovery
5. choose english > press reboot phone
6. phone will reboot into rom without problemos
7. reflash TWRP
DONE

Greetings,
I have been trying to install a custom rom on my Moto G5s Plus and I have noticed a problem. After I flash TWRP (using the fastboot flash recovery command), I can enter recovery mode but after I reboot, it seems to clear recovery and displays the error message No Command.
Is there a way to make the recovery stay?
Thank you in advance for your help.
copy the recovery image on phone and open the recovery using pc, then click on install - click install image locate the recovery file select recovery option (from 4 options) and swipe to flash . Done
