I have a weird stutter I faced with 2x Note 5 devices which I'm not sure why it is doing that while other devices I have Note 3, J7 doesn't do that.
I tried lot of things from changing firmware to changing kernel to even changing the device itself, the stutter is there, I didn't have lag problems in scrolling or browsing or even using the TW.
The weird thing that once I do a factory reset, the facebook stutter doesn't exist, but once I make the first reboot after the factory reset, the stutter will show and stay.
I logged what apps I installs/updates one by one and even cancelled the auto updates so I can log if there is a specific app or update is the reason but no difference.
I have recorded a fast video showing where I'm experiencing the facebook stutter, sometimes it is even worse with the 2 devices I tried so not sure if that compatibility issue with Note5/FB.

I was thinking of trying the DR Ketana rom but looks like you already tried without a change, it is really a weird situation, I suspect maybe the screen resolution on the note 5 or not sure, I think I will end up using my OP2 and just wait for marshmallow update for the N5 as I really like this device.
It's an issue with facebook app, happens with mine as well.

Has anyone experienced this? While playing Madden Mobile it lagged quite a bit.
Yep! I have encryption disabled on mine and I have been seeing a lot of stuttering in games. I am not very happy with the performance I am seeing.
could also be that those games are not update to work with 5.0 yet. I haven't got my phone yet but if this is the case with most games, I will be disappointed.
I've been playing Soul Calibur (on sale for $4!!! Go go go!) and I was expecting it to lag. It didn't in fact the overall experience was awesome. That is why I wanted a Nexus phablet!
haven't experienced any game lag with Kingdom Rush Origins.
I'm seeing lag and stutters on Plauge Inc. and Asphalt 8 so far. I haven't tested other games as of yet. It's getting annoying. I might wipe everything and re-flash the stock image to see if it helps at all. What are you guys running right now? I'm rooted and un-encrypted on a 64GB Cloud White.
It could also be the apps themselves like Prod1702 suggested. I'm going to do a comparison with my co-workers N6 before I flash.
Update 1: I'm also seeing the stutters on the boot animation, co-worker is not on his 64GB MB. He is rooted and encrypted and has not changed DPI. I'm going to reflash stock and see if the issue persists.

Okay so another update for you OP. I re-flashed with the stock image and did a (manual) full wipe of the userdata using the Nexus Root Toolkit. Also did root and removed encryption again with some manual flashing.
So far no stuttering in Plague Inc like it was before. Going to re-download Asphalt 8 to make sure. If that tests well, I'm going to slowly add things back to see if I can find what caused the problem.
Update 1: Added all google accounts and exchange accounts back, also re-installed my android wear stuff so far. Still no stutter, even after a power off and power on. Perhaps the image from the factory or the OTA update caused some issues with performance. Flashing the image from google via Nexus Root Toolkit seems to have fixed it so far. I'll post if the stuttering returns. Otherwise, it looks good now.

Ill have to try flashing the stock image again too then. I am still using the encryption as I dont have any performance issues in homescreens and such, but most of my games lag pretty bad. it feels like they are running between 20-24 fps all the time. Rebooting doesnt help, closing all apps doesnt help. I was going to try removing encryption but it looks like people have the problem even with that. Ill just have to try reflashing the stock ROM and see if the lag goes away.
I just made a thread about this. Just purchased the new Gta Chinatown Wars for Android and it lags like crazy while driving around. Yet on my N5 it's perfectly smooth.
I'm starting to get real worried here
I just bought a Nexus 6, and while I like it overall I have a very annoying problem. When I load a webpage in chrome and/or chrome beta, often it will load, then I'll be scrolling and it will basically stutter before resuming. After the stutter the page will scroll fine. I'm coming from a nexus 5 which never had this problem. I'm rooted, unencrypted, stock on 5.1.1. I tried reflashing a factory image, clearing cache. and still nothing.
The only thing I found to help was when I opened page in incognito mode. I deduced this was because pages are loaded into ram when incognito, so therefore I thought maybe there were excessive io operations. But I used an app and that was not the case. Maybe the system storage is faulty/slow? Like I said, I'm unencrypted so its not the encryption. Is anyone else having this issue? Or have any suggestions? Here is the video:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9g9gox9e3n42met/VID_20150729_231431.mp4?dl=0
You can go to a site like slickdeals.net, click one of the links and start scrolling. As you can see for me, it will stutter, then be fine. It's very annoying especially since my Nexus 5 and previous phones had no issues like this, and I don't see the reason for it so any help would be appreciated,

It's hard to say, watching the video vs happening in my own hands, but it looked to me like when you saw the stuttering, the page wasn't loaded yet.... the blue line that goes from left to right across the top of the page wasn't all the way across.
Ok heres my issue. I just ordered a brand new, sealed in the box white note 4 for tmobile. Upon powering the phone, i notice that theres was lag every 10 seconds. If i was typing, the keyboard would freeze for a second. If im watching a video, the video would freeze for one second and continue playing again. Etc. This shouldnt br happening on a brand new device that i havent even begun to install apps on.
I flashed multiple touchwiz roms and they all exhibit the same lag problem. Only when i flash an aosp rom, the lag dissapears.
This note is supposed to be replacing my old note 4 which never lagged like this ever.
Im running both phones on the same touch wiz stock rom.
So my question is this. Do performance vary between phones of the same model?? Is this a common phenomenon? Im just at a loss on how to get rid of this lag.
Stop what you're doing. Perform factory reset, format SD through settings, and give phone a couple days to settle. New builds usually take a couple days to settle.

I have a N6 purchased Dec 2015 new from Amazon. The only mods, if you can call it that is, I have unlocked the boot loader. I am currently running N6F26Y sideloaded via ADB.
The phone was great when I first got it but now after about a day or so of usage it becomes slow and sluggish and unresponsive I have to restart it to use it. I have done a factory reset a couple of times which gets it back to normal for a week or so and then the problem recurs. Occasionally I will delete the cache which also helps. Snapchat is one of the worse apps - crashes the phone regularly and is a very slow app.
Also the camera can get very slow often taking seconds to take one photo.
I love the phone but it's becoming unusable now. The contrast between this and a new phone (I have purchased a Moto Z) is like night and day. The Moto Z runs instantly, has no lag and is a nice phone. But what I like about the N6 is the large screen which makes it great for videos etc.
Short of perhaps flashing some custom ROM is there anything I could be doing?
I'd recommend flashing a rom like pure nexus, super stable that should fix your problem, otherwise you've done all you can and is the easiest fix

Hello,
It seems like some apps are really slowing down your phone. I use my N6 at home for web browsing mostly as I have a Pixel XL now. Just like you I love the screen size.
The camera has always been slow fore, because of the time it takes to focus...
Did you try using your phone a few days without Snapchat installed? Maybe you also have other misbehaving apps installed.
Uninstall Snapchat and other apps and start from here. Reinstall one per one with a few days interval. See if the issue still occurs.
Installing a custom ROM + kernel will likely speed up things a little bit. I second @Dugaldrob with Pure Nexus and I'd suggest ElementalX kernel on top. Running this combo on N6, N6P and Pixel XL and they work flawlessly.
I don't believe installing a custom ROM alone will fix your issue though. Stock ROM shouldn't cause the phone to slow down to the point you need to reboot to use it.
Finding the culprit will...
Good luck...

Thanks
First step is to remove Snapchat. I rarely use the app and only because my daughter sends stuff on it. I am going to tell her to send me stuff via another method
If that doesn't work then it's a new ROM. I have performed ROM installs before but have never flashed a new kernel on a phone before so that will be a new experience. Hopefully I won't brick the phone

Hello,
Don't worry, it's really easy. Also, if you are lost, there must be a ton of tutorials in general section. If you are lost yet, just ask and someone will point you in the right direction...

I've been running Pure Nexus and wanted to let peeps know I put Nitrogen on and man it's so smooth, my wifi tether is back and I went to sleep last night with 50% battery still. When I installed it I opted for the nano gapps I think so like 175mb for minimal apps and maybe that's why it's running so efficient. Maybe I could have re-installed Pure Nexus with a clean install and it would have gotten better but it was a good time to try something else. Also when Nitrogen got an update I was notified just like stock and it downloaded. I didn't even know these could do that. Anyways give it a try and you might just switch back. I was looking into new phones but if it keeps working so smooth with battery longer than a day then I'm fine for now.
Snap chat is not that big of an issue. What I have found to cause the device to slow down is normally almost full device storage and a crappy cache release code in apps. Some apps don't release their cache properly. So it causes lag. This is why a reboot seems to fix it.
While a custom rom may fix this issue it is not the solution. The proper solution is to find what is causing it and fix/repair/ditch it.
Worst offenders for crappy code in my thoughts. Other will disagree with one on this list I am sure. So don't bother. I know people swear by it. It runs like crap for me at times and causes my whole device to lag until I close it out.
1 Facebook
2 FB messenger
3 Google Chrome ( don't do it lol)
4 whatsapp
5 Hangouts
Mind you this is just a list on my usage. It may very per user and even device (considering different hardware)

I can confirm this, because I've removed these apps (-whatsapp) and also decrypted the data partition...
My N6 is fast.
Maybe a lite stock ROM and an other kernel is a good start.

Currently I have FB, FB messenger, and Chrome but when I installed gapps I chose a super lite install so tons of bloat and google apps were not installed and my battery has gone way up and it's so smooth. I'm sure even when we don't use apps they're always doing something in the background. I bet you're right and a stock lite ROM would be good too with the minimal bs apps.

Thanks for the advice. Of the list of apps above I have only Chrome and Hangouts. I really can't see replacing either of them.
I also should have pointed out that the phone locks up randomly requiring a hard reset. I wonder if an errant app could cause that or I have some RAM problem. Certainly on a PC bad RAM can use in Windows a blue screen or something but perhaps Android isn't so forgiving?

I would flash TWRP, flash supersu in TWRP to root, make a complete backup in twrp, then remove whatever Google apps you're not using with a system app removal app. Getting some of that bloat off the device should help. If it's still laggy, then look into a custom ROM. I run Tesla on my Nexus 6 with none of the issues you're having. I don't decrypt it either
Running abdroid 7.1 here. I dont get any slowdowns, at leas until the battery doesnt drop below 50 and 25 percent.
Im running a custom kernel and my phone is rooted. Everything else is stock.
Can you flash a custom kernel and presumably TWRP without wiping the phone? If so then might try that before a custom ROM

Hello,
Since your bootloader is unlocked, flash TWRP and install the kernel, no problem.
Might give you a slight boost at first sight, but your device will likely slow down over time anyway...
Cheers...
I'm on 7.0 with the April SP. I have dozens of apps installed, including Hangouts. I use Firefox for browsing, I like it better than chrome (and you can install an ad blocker).
My camera slows down when the battery is under 40%, and the whole device slows dramatically, though not unusable, at or below 5%. But otherwise, no issues what so ever.
One solution that I have not seen suggested here is resetting the device and NOT taking the Google account backup of all your apps. I would suggest making a completely clean install of the factory rom you have and installing one or two apps at a time, most important to you first. And do this for a few days/weeks until you find the app that's misbehaving.
Although there are general bad players out there, this bad app could be unique to your device. Just because all devices of the same model have the same specs and components, doesn't mean that there isn't variability in parts quality.
I would do this before trying any new roms or kernels. Find the true problem first.
Good luck!
edit:
I had another idea: Go into your battery stats and network stats and storage stats and see if any app seems to be using too much of any, or all of the 3. This may get you the answer more quickly.
I've been using the Pixel 4 XL for over a month now but lately there's a lot of scrolling lag. Especially on Google feed and Play Store. It doesn't matter if 90hz is forced on or off, it stutters and lags when scrolling and it's very unsightly especially when trying to show off against iPhone users who want to check out my phone. Other than that, performance is excellent.
I'm running 100% stock with the January update.
Anyone else facing the same issues and what could be done to alleviate or completely resolve it?
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
I know this is extra, but I factory reset my phone after every new update. I've done this for the past 10 years of owning smartphones and i've almost never encountered any sluggishness or lag.
If your issues still persist, RMA. When a factory is churning out hundreds of thousands or millions of a product and each product itself is made of hundreds of tiny electrical components, it could just be something defective. Sorry about your luck but I hope factory resetting fixes it!
Yeah I would do a reset because I have never owned a smoother phone.
I haven't done factory reset and it's been perfectly smooth here. I used to do it once a year but I didn't need to with my 2 XL and probably won't need to with the 4 XL too.
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
Besides a random restart that hasn't happened twice, this phone is ultra fast doing all the every day things. Have never experienced lag on social media, YouTube, emails, web pages or any of the things you've mentioned. Maybe a reset is in order and it the problem still persists, warranty repair cause something is definitely wrong.
Well I factory reset the phone and the stuttering is almost gone. I guess it's normal for the play store and Google feed to lag a bit as it renders images/videos?
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
I get a little lag in the play store when I'm scrolling the main page (with pics and videos), but not really anywhere else. So far, this phone, like the last two pixels I've owned has been very smooth. I typically only factory reset when going from an Android beta to the stable, or if something isn't working right during the betas. I DO clean my phone and restart twice a week. I use SD Maid (rooted) to clean cache and such from system and apps. That works really well. If you're not rooted, unfortunately, most cleaning apps won't clear all app/system cache data. Anyway, something to try.
I've had the 4XL for almost a week and find some lag when unlocking the phone. The colour on the wallpaper will stay black and white for 1 second and then normal.
Also find swiping down for notifications will lag too after unlocking. Running stock, rooted with active edge mod and a font mod, ElementalX kernel.
Anyone else experiencing this? I mean it's not a big deal, maybe a reset and run everything stock to see if it continues.

Perhaps it is something to do with the mods and kernel causing lag? Try a factory reset like I did and see if that fixes it without getting rid of the mods.

So I noticed it's the way I have my unlock process. I didn't have soli on when coming to pick up the phone for automatic detection. I liked being able to just check what songs playing on the AOD without it waking up while picking up the phone.
For the last few days I turned soli back on for that particular feature and no more delay or lag.
