I just put serendipity 6 on my buddys captivate. I don't know anything about the development for this phone so I kinda had to wing it to pick which rom to put on. He was on eclair . He loves it the new.but my question is, any reason to put serendipity 7 on it instead or any other ROM for that matter? I want to give him the best stability and battery with customization. Any help is.appreciated
I do have to say this was a fun phone to mess around with for the first time

Sorry, there is no quick answer. ROM selection is a personal preference thing.
However there is a thread on xda comparing roms battery performance. If I remember correctly serendipity was among the top. Fasty was up there too.
I'll look for the link when I get home and edit my post.

I found the thread I had mentioned, but it's old. It has been almost a year since there were any constructive posts. It was full of squabbling, so I won't bring it back to life by posting a link to it. Too bad though, cause the guy who started it had good intentions.
Probably best to let this thread die also. Battery / performance comparison threads seem to get ugly after a while.

this phone is almost three + years old. so many ppl have moved to newer versions. those who still has this phone are moved on to ICS (Ice cream Sand-witch (4.0.4) based ROMs. ICS is fast, stable and good on battery as well.
that's why there is no action on GB based ROMS.
I am on Slim ICS and highly recommend it.
until they get the encryption unsuccessful bug worked out that is a pretty good reason to recommend staying with the gingerbread roms
i suggest you go with gingerbread because it was tested that it has a better battery performance plus the graphics drivers upgraded.
Legend 4 is the most active GB ROM with current and helpful developers still active. I run it with no problems.

so,
would you mind guys to refer us for the latest stable rom?
All the information you require is available in the developers section to READ about the different ROMs , you should really do this and try some as it really is subjective depending on your needs, gaming, camera etc .
Plus what is the best Rom threads are not allowed.
Try them out you will have fun and learn a lot.

I use / recommend jcsullins ' CM10 preview.
I'm still using CM9 nightlies. Very stable.

I am still using cm9 nightly. I tried cm10 in Dec and the online game I play "Tanked" crashed and the GPU got wacked. For me, the CM9...so far has been more stable.
Exactly what games are you playing on CM10....
"Tanked" is a great online game against the world and graphics and movements are very good. check it out....it's free!
Your best bet is to read the different threads and determine for yourself which ROM is the most stable for you/your device based on the apps you run, and your usage. The users in each thread will most certainly post what is working and what is not for them

I've been using CM10.2 the last few days, and it's great, I love it, but whenever I go to play a game or something like that, it'll restart, which is really annoying. So now I'm looking for another ROM to flash. What ROMs do you recommend for the Verizon LG G2?

I'm not a Verizon user but IMO ROM's is subjective. The best way is to test each ROM and stick to the one which suits best.

Pretty much all AOSP roms will have random reboots at this point. I'm currently running CM 11 nightlies and have maybe 1 reboot/SOD a day which is pretty managable. If you want a mostly bug free experience you'll have to stick to an LG based Rom for the time being.
OP unfortunately this type of subject is difficult to address, with so many variables involved from one User to another, with apps/usage and just because we have the same make/model device we will not have the same outcome regarding the use of the same ROM. So best bet is just try and test to see what works for you, and due to the conflict of possible trolling this thread will be closed.

It's been a while since I've gone through the whole process of finding a good rom. I'm running Gingerbread still, a variant of DarkyRom_3.4.1 currently. Flash works great. Probably going to miss that. But it's getting slow. I need a reinstall.
Plus, cracked my screen. Bezel edges and corners are also torn up. Paid $140 for new screen and replacement rear back/bezel/case http://www.ebay.com/itm/281265794618?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
So, anybody spend time testing ROMs in the last month? What's new, stable, and clean? I've skimmed the rom list, but nothing beats interactive testing. For looks, I want AOSP but can't decide if I want TW with Apex or Nova, or CM 10.1 like SuperNexus. Trying for speed, fluidity, no bloat.
What have people settled on lately? Opinions are all I ask
How horrible is Flash compatibility now? I tried flash on a Nexus 4 on latest (4.4.2?) and it wouldn't play firstrowsports.eu or projectfree.tv so that's kind of a bummer...
Any suggestions would be great! Don't want to spend a full week testing roms and rewiping my phone..I don't have a second to use while I play with my Note, and I'm kinda busy with work lately to wipe my phone over and over.
Another question while I'm at it... Is a nandroid backup taken with my outdated CWM going to restore OK after I upgrade? Thinking I'll be ok.

If you are too lazy to test yourself then stay on stock rom.
Why should other members do the work for you and write here - which is simply a best rom thread and so against XDA rules (reading them might help you).
And: many members who cooked or developed roms spent a lot of time doing this and making good threads, tutorials and instructions. So please use these and pay a little respect to them by doing so.

Thanks for taking the time to tell me I'm lazy. I work hard, thank you very much.
Why should other members "do the work for me"? Well, without trying to justify anything, I've answered questions for other people, simply out of the kindness of my being, just because I know the answer. Last time I put in the effort of testing rom after rom, I shared my knowledge. I'm sure there's other people out there like me. I mean, with your methodology, we should all be told to go Google it...which is akin to telling someone to go shove it.
If you've put in the effort of trying roms, and you have the time to leave me a helpful response, and you don't consider it "working for me", I'd appreciate it.
At the moment im on c-rom kitkat its pretty fast and have alot of options. Its not touchwiz . Everyone has their own likings so flash one if you dont like flash another. End of story. I did what you did before asking for best roms and at the end i pick a rom no one mention in the thread in my own phone

I've been using the OmniROM variants lately and found them to be slightly faster than TW-based ones. Right now I'm on Asylum OmniROM Naughties 4.4.2 and it's been pretty stable and zippy so far. Battery life is same as with TW. Not sure about Flash compatibility as I don't use it. As for nandroid backups, I recently read that you need to restore using the same kernel/recovery as you used when you made the backup. Not sure if that's true or not, but something to keep in mind if you're jumping from ROM to ROM.
AryaMod 5.5 is the best rom right now and has Flash support enabled by default. Every JB (or even KITKAT) version can handle Flash if you sideload Flash Player apk and a compatible Browser (Like Firefox). The stock, Samsung browser have Flash support enabled without any hack.

Thanks for your reply, as well as the others. I'll be giving AryaMod a go.
I [and many others] really wish samsung would publish the hardware composer and other needed source for AOSP builds....It seems like I keep loving the AOSP interface more. Paranoid is awesome. AOKP helps little things. CM features are also great. Together, perfect.
For me, Stunner 2 is GUI perfect. Functionality missing though. Of course, need that hardware acceleration. Can't use my Vulkano (Hava). Can't watch Top Gear without transcoding from MKV.
On another "note" (no pun intended lol), does anybody know a 5.3" or larger phone that is 100% AOSP friendly?

Probably a reference to JoyOS, an iOS cloned theme that was last seen around the time CM 7 was still the most popular ROM. To my knowledge the original Chinese forum which was doing the heavy lifting abandoned this quite some time ago. With the exception of the Goophone I don't think anyone is doing full conversion ROMs which resemble iOS anymore and their systems don't seem to have been dumped and translated yet, which by this time indicates there is no interest.

That explains the reason why there's no more ios rom creation. But, what about MIUI? The os of MIUI has dramatically evolved over the past 4 years. Am I tripping, or is it that no one wants to take a crack at creating a rom for us little guys for devices such as the HTC Desire 626s?

Believe it or not rom creation is hard and relies on having the sources available (which not all companies will do--HTC used to be better than most about this which is why I took a chance on this phone) and on having developers who have the phone and are capable\willing to do the hard work of making a complete AOSP or Cyangogenmod version of the base operating system. Only after that has been completed do you usually start to see more exotic systems like MIUI, Mokee, ParanoidAndroid, etc, get ported over. Even then there's a dirty little secret about Android roms:
Most of them never get 100% compatibility and hardware support. Ever. Despite the best efforts of the porters.
I had an HTC One V which did well for its time but the camera never quite made it to 100% hardware support. Same thing with bluetooth. My LG Optimus F3 never quite got anywhere with roms and eventually I gave up on it and moved on to the HTC Desire 626s which despite some solid efforts at producing the slimmed down version I am currently running also does not seem to have any real custom android roms.
This goes back to my first point: Rom creation is hard.
That's why even when people put up bounties and buy phones for well known rom hackers who have produced many ports, it still doesn't always result in new roms. Because it's a lot harder than it looks.
I was spoiled initially, I had an LG Optimus V which quickly had a custom rom built for it with very good hardware support which was lean and clean. There were custom kernels for it and it quickly had all sorts of ports of everything from CM7 to JoyOS to MIUI to Mokee and friends within a relatively short period of time. It was the little phone that could and I mistakenly believed that because lightening struck and all sorts of good things were happening this was how it always was. Not even close to the case.
I got lucky. The LG Optimus V was cheap enough that it attracted all sorts of interest from a variety of the right people at the right time. This kind of thing isn't even close to being normal. Some times you get lucky, sometimes you don't.
So why not MIUI? Well I'm sorry to say but for one thing MIUI is heavy. It's heavy like Touchwiz or Sense can be, and that sort of thing can only be helped with massive amounts of optimization. Sadly not every phone has a developer (or group of developers) who are willing to do that sort of thing for free.
So all I can say is appreciate the level of development we've got and be thankful for the work of the developers who have released a slimmer rom for us already. If you need a MIUI rom for your phone, you should probably track the releases here before buying. If you check the forums, you'll see you are not alone. There are lots of people who want MIUI ports.

Thank you. You have truly answered my questions, even ones I wondered about but didn't ask. I am greatly satisfied with what you have said. I understand that rom creation is hard and it can take a toll on the one creating the rom. It's not an easy task. I to had a Samsung galaxy epic 4g touch, which had all sorts of roms for it. But also knowing from experience, you are correct. It is a hit and miss sometimes with some devices you buy. Maybe as newer devices are created, the ability to create ROMs for them gets harder because of the upgraded technology and coding. I could be wrong. On the miui official site, they is a list of devices that they support. But most of them are old school and i surely wouldn't want to take a step down from this phone just to have miui. Then the newer phones in some cases cost more than this phone(referring to the HTC desire 626). I do appreciate the effort that has been put forth for a slimmed down version for this phone. But what I've asked in previous threads was whether or not there is root access yet for the mm update for the metro PCs version of the HTC desire 626s. No bites what so ever. I'm guessing either there isn't any or I'm just not coming across it yet. Any help on that would be highly appreciated. The custom recovery is posted in this thread and used this> supersu.zip, fastboot flash the recovery and then flash the supersu.zip in recovery. After flashing supersu and booting up install busybox.
BUT don't forget to make a backup, just incase.

Thank you sir for the info. I am unlocked and rooted again. Now, I'll sit back and wait for some debloated roms to pop up for 6.0.1 2.17.1550.1 Metro PCS.
Hey, if you're still interested in Miui, you could try installing the launcher app, see if that gives you enough of the miui experience to get by until someone eventually makes a port?

My bad. Here I found the app in my Play Store history, (from before Google made it country specific?) and installed it. It immediately crashed but stayed open. From there I updated it from within the launcher settings and it crashed again. Just as I was about to give up I had a brainstorm and went back into settings and turned off the lockscreen. This made it stop crashing for me. I hunted around for Beautiful Widgets and replaced the clock and installed miui theme for it and everything looks good from here.
So I installed Titanium Backup and uploaded the app. Hopefully this helps you.
