It's a widely discussed topic that tmobile moto x is carrier unlocked.
But I just read thread that somebody with verizone moto x is starting to receive unknown/supported sim when they insert other sim, after upgrading to kitkat. Verizone was unlocked too just like tmobile.
So I am wondering it's the same case with tmobile version too. Can anybody with same version/update confirm this?
I have owned my T-Mobile Moto X since yesterday, and it ships with Jellybean. I put my AT&T sim card into it before booting up, and it was working fine. I then upgraded to KitKat, and the network was still working fine, even with the AT&T sim. So in short, the T-Mobile Moto X still recognizes other carrier sim cards after upgrading to KitKat.
I purchased a AT&T Moto X during the recent sale from Motorola for using it on straight talk. I assumed ATT version will work on ST as it is an MVNO of ATT.
I cut down a Straight talk micro sim card into a nano sim card and inserted it into Moto X. It never prompted me for an unlock code. I ported my number from ATT gophone to ST and they (ST) say it is active and provisioned as per their system. But I cannot make any calls and it is not connected to any network. It says HOME at the left corner. When I installed a SIM detector app from google play thru Wifi, it detects the SIM number and the other data. I spent lot of time talking to ST (they say the SIM is active and provisioned as per their system) and Motorola (they say since it is locked to AT&T, it is not working on ST). I tried to get AT&T to unlock it but they will not.
I cut down a AT&T go phone microsim into a nano sim card and activated it under AT&T go phone with a new number , it works. But I want to use it on ST.
1). Is my phone being locked to AT&T, the reason it is not working on ST. If so, if I purchase an unlock code online, it should work. But I never got any unlock code prompt at any time when I put in the ST sim card several times.
2). My ST sim card may not be LTE (I am not sure if it is lte or not. I had it with my previous ST account phone). Could it be the reason?
I appreciate any help/suggestions.
Before you stick the ST card in there, clean it first. Try it again in a few hours. Mine didn't work either the first night

1. You do not need an unlocked phone to use a ST sim running on the AT&T network. If you are using a t-mobile sim, you will need the phone unlocked. What are the first 5 digits on the sim card? I think AT&T is 89014.
2. I would buy a new ST sim card and cut it out again. That way you know you have the LTE version. Buy it NOW so you get the free Next Day shipping. It expires tomorrow.
Unless you plan on using LTE in Canada or South America, you should have bought the Unlocked GSM Moto X. They are/were the same price, but come unlocked and without bloatware from AT&T.

It starts with 89014 plus 15 digits.
I should have brought the Tmobile version which is unlocked but thought AT&T version may be less problematic with ST which is an MVNO of AT&T. I did order a new ST micro sim card today
Will everything work taking a AT&T branded G Flex To T-Mobile? Wanting to pick one up but all I see are AT&T versions..wanting T-Mobiles $30/month prepaid plan from Walmart.
Anyone?
If you unlock it. And I'm not talking about the bootloader. There are forums about SIM unlocking on here.
So if I sim unlock it a AT&T g flex will work on t-mobile for everything?
I'm not sure I don't have an att but yes that's the theory.

the at&t g flex works perfectly on tmobile, but you have to unlock it first... how? in my case i paid less than 2 dolars in ebay and i got an unlock code in a few hours (when you put the tmobile sim card you will get a message that says network locked and it will ask you to enter the unlock code)..
so go and get it.
Has anyone successfully put a Verizon Sim into a T-Mobile phone and has it worked? I tried putting my Sim into an AT&T phone and its asking for a Carrier Unlock code for the Sim. Any help is greatly appreciated
If you check the N6 General Forums, it'll work on a TMo N6.
Yes, I did. Mine works great. Bought device at T-Mobile and put Verizon SIM in it. Now, voice quality sucks compared to T-Mobile on it and Voice + Data won't work... However, LTE does give very good speeds. (up to 75mbps in Atlanta).
Hello all,
My Nexus 6p seems to have that Bootlooping issue, but I bought it at Best Buy so i can't RMA it. My plan is to make a Fi account for 1 month, buy a Moto X4 Android one edition, send my dead nexus 6p back to google (the trade in asks if it powers on not if it successfully boots), and then use the Moto X4 on Verizon. Has anyone successfully been using the android one version on Verizon and if so how well does it. Work? Also am i able to sign up for Fi for one month and then cancel it?
It supports all the correct LTE bands, so it should be theoretically compatible. Whether Verizon will accept it or not is another matter.
Yes, it works perfectly (if you already have an activated Verizon SIM card). To the point where VVM is built-in to the phone app and it supports HD calling.
You also don't even have to pay for a month of Fi. When you receive the phone, immediately put in your Verizon SIM card without booting up the phone, and you're good. Fi only starts charging when you activate the Fi SIM card.
Actually, now that I think about it, I'm wondering if both could be used. I already have Project Fi, and if this phone is dual-sim, could I put a data-only Verizon SIM in it to supplement the Fi coverage?
Fi uses T-mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular towers. If I were to add Verizon into the mix for an extra $20/month, that would probably be the best coverage possible, right?
Can confirm VoLTE and visual voicemail works out of the box. I haven't run into any issues as of yet :fingers-crossed:

The x4 I just received from Fi does not have a dual sim slot. The slot has room for 1 sim and 1 micro sd card. I have both inserted and the tray is full.
Does the verizon version come with a dual-sim option? Do they also allow a micro sd card?

None of the US carriers have announced they will carry the Moto X4 yet. I'd expect an announcement sometime after their earnings call this quarter if they did. I doubt they would allow dual sim on their network though. As far as a dual sim in North America, the XT1900-7 is listed as a dual-sim but idk if it's passed the FCC yet.
Code:
Motorola Moto X4 TD-LTE NA 32GB XT1900-1
Motorola Moto X4 Dual SIM TD-LTE APAC 64GB XT1900-2
?? XT1900-3
Motorola Moto X4 LTE-A LATAM 32GB XT1900-4
Motorola Moto X4 Dual SIM TD-LTE EMEA 32GB XT1900-5
Motorola Moto X4 HDTV Dual SIM LTE-A LATAM 64GB XT1900-6
Motorola Moto X4 Dual SIM TD-LTE AM 32GB XT1900-7
Hey all thanks for the replies. FYI i ended up jumping on the Beat Buy Essential Phone $100 off deal, but its good to know if im in the market for a phone again sooner than i would hope....

Quick question, if you put the Verizon sim in first, won't it update the software to make unlocking the bootloader impossible later on? I thought I read to make sure before you use the Verizon network, that you boot the phone either without the sim on wifi or with a sim from something other than Verizon so you could update the software an unlock the bootloader before Verizon slammed the door shut on you. If that's incorrect please enlighten, because I'm thinking of getting this phone to use on Verizon to replace my moto x pure.

This has not been the case, for me on Verizon, with a Moto X Pure Edition 2015, a Nexus 6P and a Moto Z2 Play (US Unlocked).
I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted all three.
