hi
would the X8 correctly drive 80 ohm impedance headphones?
i guess it's a rather high value as i always see 24 or 32 ohm headphones.
please help

i just tried some 320 ohm ones.. they are ok if you are in a silent place but overall they are very quiet..
The X8 drives 32 ohms nicely, so just imagine some 64 ohm delivering half of the power and the 80 a bit less.. It all depends on the headphones.. If they really are headphones you will have terrible bass with that impedance. If they are earphones you should be ok. You will have the best performance with in-ear buds or other type of noise canceling phones..
I am planning to buy a headphone splitter so me and my friend can watch movies each with his own earphones, as of my knowledge the original headphones shipped with the device are 32 ohm and when I use a splitter the ressisrance will split to 16 ohm, my question is:
is it safe to use the splitter?
I don't think it will cause any major issues. Phone might heat up more and battery will go down fast. But I never done it...
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Ok, so I'm about to bite the bullet and get rid of my stereo and replace it with a Nexus 7. I was thinking about just getting a 1/8" phono to rca audio jack, but I see that a lot of you that are doing the install are using a USB DAC. Can someone explain to me why that is, and what the benefit is over just hooking the rca up to an amp?
Better DAC...and better preamp. The built in digital to analog for the headphones was built to a price for $200 tablet. And the analog amp for the headphones is expecting a high impedance load. Doing it through the headphones basically adds an extra analog conversion to the path (impedance matching from headphone level to rca level). An external dac bypasses this and converts directly from digital to rca level.

The first part is true, the DAC on the tablet is possibly a lower end one then what you'll find on an external DAC but you should spend a little time and investigate. Looking at ifix-it they don't mention an D/A converter or headphone amp. Often now it is built in to a power switching chip.
As far as the second part, the headphone amp is built to drive a low impedance (16ohms). The amp will have a high impedance (typically 500 to 1k, sometimes 10k). This is actually ideal. It maximizes the voltage your amplifier will see. And is the way amplifiers typically work.
The final thing I can say is output voltage. An external D/A might or might not drive more voltage out.
My experience is 15 years car audio installation and two degrees in electronics. I'm currently doing the same and starting a product line of items that make installing tablets better then installing aftermarket decks.
This might help
So I've been working on this for a while. Might be helpful to you!
I'm currently with a hole in my dash, Flip-flopping on n7 or n10 install. I've tested this thing with the n10, n7 and the galaxy note2 so far.

You can use a USB DAC with a USB Hub. The Fifo one seems to be popular at about $50.
Honestly from 15 years of car audio experience I can say that the Headphone out of the N7 sounds pretty good. I really don't know that a DAC will make any difference. I think either way you will find your self having to use Awesome beats or some other EQ app to get the sound the way you want it, but I'm thinking I'll just use the headphone out my self.
Hello,
I have been searching for days and days for a honest to god spec sheet that proves the unit has at least 4 volts of preamp coming out of the rca jacks. I love my current Android Head unit, I need to use a line driver however becuase it is putting out 1.8 volts and thus cuasing some buzzing and unwanted sounds. Does anyone know of any or have any recomendations? I have a rav4 2012, but will deal with a universal if my only choice. I thank you for your time.!!!
In case anyone is interested, it's free for a short time. I would have posted this in the free apps thread, but it was closed.

Have no idea why, but this app break my fingerprint unlock. After uninstall everything back to normal.
Yes, downloaded it today

Try again? That doesn't happen on any of the three LG V30 I have it installed on.
Hi, just tried this but didn't recognise the standard LG headphones which are high impedance.
Looks like a novelty anyway as no actual settings in app.
Uninstalled.

The standard LG headphones aren't high impedance. Sorry.
They are as they trigger the lg dac message

But the "best" settings are reserved for High Impedance Mode.
That's why @Whiskeyomega has a mod to force HIM with root.
You normally need 50 ohms impedance to trigger high impedance mode. That's why some people bought the 75 ohms jack to mate with their less than 50 ohms headsets (75 seems the least you can buy).

or you can buy headsets with 50 ohms or greater to get HIM.
Or you can use root to trigger that through @Whiskeyomega mod.

Yes, as I said, the standard headphones are more than 50 ohms, that's why they trigger the dac message. They do sound better when him is set.
Manually setting the him mode with my sennheiser cx-500i, which are only 18 ohms did not help the quality.

My LG headphones which came with my V30+ are NOT high impedance. Are you speaking of the "B&O" branded headphones or the "LG" branded headphones? Depends on where you buy your V30+. In North America, we got "LG" branded headphones, while other places got "B&O" branded headphones . NEITHER are 50 ohms or more and neither trigger High Impedence Mode.
So, I bought high impedance headphones and I also have the 75 ohms adapter if I need it.
Hi, I have LG branded headphones. Bought my phone in Dubai, ARE dual sim version.
My H930 came with B&O headphones and they're definitely not high impedance headphones. And if they are, they're rubbish, because when you plug in proper high impedance headphones, you feel the difference instantly.
LG went full retard here. They brag about quad DAC and then they go and cheap out on headphones. Ridiculous.
The headphones that came with my girlfriend's ancient Galaxy S4 mini sound better than these quasi premium B&O thingies.
Having said that, a cool app this.
Now a question. A friend of mine has a pair of Audio Technica m50x headphones that he wants to sell. They're not high impedance so if I decide to buy them from him I'll need to get an adapter. Besides cranking up the volume to the max, is there any other danger driving low impedance headphones with an adapter in high impedance mode?

Thanks for the link. All clear now. So I guess I'll order a pair of Soundmagic 50c (or 80c), since everyone's praising them for their quality output.
