Undervolting, which app? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which app do you folks suggest for undervolting? I am running franco kernel and looking for something to help increase battery life a little.

if you are looking to increase battery, undervolting will not help you, as it wont increase battery. undervolting will help reduce heat though. which app? it doesnt matter, they all do the exact same thing. use one you like.

Underclocking for Battery Life?

I was thinking about doin this but I have NO idea what would be a good/safe amount to undervolt/underclock. The main reason i want to do this is to get some more juice outta my battery but I'm not sure what a good amount is. Is there a way to keep performance and overall "snappiness" of the phone about the same and still get a good gain of battery life? Also is there anyway i can damage my phone by doing this? Sorry if these are stupid questions but i wanna be safe
I'm on CM 6 RC if that makes any difference. Thanks

I used an 800mV kernel for a while and had SetCPU @ 806mhz -- battery life was insane.
SetCPU doesn't make a difference in battery life, it can only shorten it. The kernal already has the best settings for CPU speed built in.
The main function of SetCPU is to overclock.

So with that in mind, is there any kernel you would recommend? Or am i just better off with what's already installed
Stock (cyan's) works fine for me. Try them and find out which works best for you.
Thankfully people stopped releasing their own kernals in masses... but they were replaced by winzip roms...

Devils vs Semaphore Kernels, OC'ing, and why?

Which kernels are you guys using, specifically with THS build 15? Is there noticable difference in day to day applications by flashing one of these kernels? What benefits do they offer (responsiveness)?
Also, how does overclocking effect the phones battery life, and heat output? I would assume a 300mhz overclock would produce a significant amount of heat and drain battery much quicker.

i heard that DEVIL 14.2 is good with cm9 build 15...... and yeah...of course.....overclocking will drain your battery muck quicker.... but u can under-volt to save battery life though undervolting stability depends on your kernel. for overclocking and undervolting glitch is better ( as far as i observed ) but personally i like devil kernel.

Thanks for the response! While I'm an avid PC overclocker, I don't have to worry about battery life there , I think I will keep my 1000mhz and battery duration where it is. I'll likely try the Devil's kernel just waiting on a couple more responses

[Q] Xperia Z battery life with underclock

Hello all,
I'm planning to buy a Xperia Z but I'm also interested by the Xperia ZR that has a better battery life but that is harder to find where I live.
So I'id like to know whether the Xperia Z has a good battery life, let's say a day in advanced use, and no lags if underclocked @800-1000MHz.

If you buy an unlockable device (not from a carrier) undervolting with a custom kernel will make the most difference
@ kingvortex: Thanks for the link but I'd already read the thread and I didn't really find an answer. I saw that for some users underclocking wasn't working properly... Does the problem still exist ?
@ DrKrFfXx: Yeah I won't buy it from a carrier, and I plan to underclock the Z if I buy it, freeze or unistall some apps etc. But I don't want to lose performance. Is the interface and most of apps very smooth at 800MHz ?

Is laggy at that speed.
But don't confuse undervolt with underclock, mister.
Undervolt as the name implies, is lowering the voltage of the processor to generate less wattage and thus, less heat and battery consumption.
You can undervolt your device to consume the energy of the stock 1000mhz and retaining 1500mhz. Undervolting combined with a slight underclock, say to 1350 will achieve decent performance while mantaining great battery life.

Anyway thanks for your answer. If at the end of the week ZR isn't available here I'll turn my choice on the Z.

New to android systems, I want to try and improve my battery life and the last thing on my list after looking about was underclocking.. I've got a rooted z3 and the rom toolbox app, after reading the comment what would I need to do to get an ideal battery saver?

[Q] Battery life approximations / extension suggestions on custom kernels

Hi all.
I would like to ask whether someone can point me to any approximations on how battery drains on custom kernels (thus probably utilizing under/over-clock) compared to stock kernel battery drain? The point of my question is, what is better - custom or stock - for battery life and to what extent / in what usage scenarios it is better.
Also I'd be glad if anyone can share some efficient SetCPU profiles (combinations of min/max freq, governor, i/o scheduler)
In my case I'm using XzKernel 23 and I'll be glad to share details of my battery draining details and my suggested SetCPU profiles if anyone wants it for comparison with his own.

Kernel talk...a little help is needed

What's the big advantage of using another non stock kernel?
The main one I'm seeing is overclocking.
Overclock, underclock, voltage change, different governor, SD changes.
Pretty much, more customization. You could have more battery life or better performance.
