Hello,
I decided to reset my Chromecast because none of my devices recognised my Chromecast.
So I did an factory reset, but when I set my Chromecast up again it can't communicate with my Chromecast for some reason.
It looks like the last step to connect with my WiFi router is the problem, but I don't know.
How to fix this?
What are the exact messages you're getting?
"Could not communicate with your Chromecast"

This is from the Chromecast setup app, yes?
What does the TV screen show?
The Chromecast setup app has never been 100% reliable for me... The last time I factory reset I had to run through setup 2 or 3 times before it applied properly.
You may want to try the manual setup instead.
+1 also try setup from a different device if you have one. (Laptop, tablet , PC)
One other thing to try is to disconnect from your AP before you try and connect to the CCast.
It is possible on some devices and versions of Android that being connected to an AP interferes with finding and connecting to the CCast AP.

This is from the app, yes. The TV is showing that it is connecting to my WiFi network. I already tried it couple times, but every time the same message.

I'll try this also, thanks. EDIT: Tried it from my N7 2012, got the same message.

Go into the app settings and clear the data. I had problems during a setup as well and that fixed the problem.
I managed to set it up with an iPad. But it's still not recognisable.

So... any differences between the WiFi connection setup on the iPad vs the Android devices?
You don't have your 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands using the same SSID, do you?
Sorry I didn't answered your question, I was on holiday for a week.
I think our router has only 2.4GHz band.
I made some screenshots, maybe it can help, don't know.

Hmm, well at least from Chromecast's perspective it's operating normally.
What's shown on the bottom right of the Chromecast desktop screen?
Only the time, why?

It used to show the SSID of the AP it's connected to, but I can't remember offhand if it still does in the newer (build 14xxx onward) desktop display.

It still does on build 16664.
Do you have enough information with this photo?

Yes thank you. Something seems wrong though... It's like the device is in a "half" set up state... It doesn't think it needs to be set up, yet isn't connected to wireless.
I would factory reset it again using the button. Maybe the first reset didn't completely reset somehow.
Thanks a lot! I manually reset the Chromecast manually with the button as you said and set it up again. It works now.
A little late here but I can confirm that My Ccast IS connected and yet does not show the SSID or indicate it is connected in anyway on the default screen.
It does indicate when it is in the process of connecting and for some time after it connects but after awhile that indication goes away.
I suspect it has to do with how many pics have changed.
What it does do though is indicate when it does NOT have a connection.
Which wouldn't help you if it managed to connect to the wrong router.
Problems are back again... Today I switched my Chromecast in another TV (Philips), again he saw no network, not recognisable. So resetted my Chromecast again but I can't get trough the setup process now, so I keep trying right now.
Edit:
Do you think to buy a new Chromecast to solve the problem?
Chromecast, stock build 22062. Was working fine a couple of days ago. Then all of the sudden one night from my phone (rooted Galaxy S3, Likewise S5 ROM) I could see the cast button in RealPlayer Cloud, but when I pushed it it would act like it was connecting for a while, and then the cast button would disappear and reappear. However, there was no change on the TV screen - it stayed on the Chromecast background. Doing some more investigation I found that none of the Chromecast apps would connect to it (Netflix, Youtube, etc.). If I go into the actual Chromecast app it would see my Chromecast, and I can see all of the info about it, but if I click on "Backdrop" it scans the network and then says "No Chromecasts found."
I could go onto my Nexus 7, and everything worked fine - I could cast from everything perfectly. However, after I rebooted the Nexus, it started having the same problem as well. I can not cast from anything. It sees the Chromecast, but cannot connect. Now none of my Android devices work with it.
I tried factory resetting the Chromecast. I could connect to the Chromecast and set it up, but it did not solve my problem. The only thing that does work is casting a tab from my laptop.
My thought is this has something to do with my router setup. I have a Watchguard XTM-25, and I am outside the US blocking Google DNS requests. About a week ago I made some configuration changes on my router (bridged two interfaces together) but this should not have affected the Chromecast - it and all the devices go through one access point on the same side of the bridge). Indeed, everything worked after I made the change. I have, however, reverted to the previous setup just in case and still nothing works. It worked for more than a year with this setup.
Any ideas on where I should start looking to fix this? It almost seems that the Chromecast is only able to communicate in one direction - it can't receive anything from any Android device (although it does from my laptop), but it is sending out the signal saying it is there. It is basically useless as it is.
Thanks in advance!
Update: If I connect to a different subnet which goes through a VPN everything works fine, so I am sure it is in router settings. However, I still don't know what to look for.

I've had exactly the same issues with my HTC One Max and HTC EVO LTE. Daughters GS4 works with the 6.5.87 version on my WIFI and my HTC does not work on her home WIFI. After doing everything you've described with no help, I noticed this occured with a recent update of Google Play Services to 6.5.87. I uninstalled it and sideloaded an older version from apkmirror.com (6.1.88) and my Chromecast world was right again. Unfortunatley Google would do a "stealth" upgrade within 24hr back to 6.5.87. So I tried sideloading the newest version (6.5.88). Now You Tube and Google Play Music work fine but the cast button doesn't even show up on the 3rd party apps (TuneIn, Pocket Casts, NetFlix etc.). Don't know what it means, maybe an API incomptability? Hoping for some updates to Services or the apps that will fix this.

Thanks. I tried going back to 6.5.86 but unfortunately it didn't fix it in my case.

I think if you try 6.1.88 you'll find it will work. My question is why and how to fix it.
Same happened to me this week, my SG3 works fine as always with the Chromecast but my SGN 10.1 suddenly stopped working. Cast button is on and Chromecast app can see it but it never connects.

Hey all. I've had my watch since Christmas and today I noticed it was displaying the wrong city. Nothing I did would change it, so I reset, then restarted, rebooted my phone ect. After all that the watch would not connect at all. Doing the reset ect more times the watch connected but still would not show the correct city. Once again the connection stopped and thats where I'm at. I have no idea what to do right now and have tried everything.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Is your phone running KK or LP? There are some reports that LP doesn't play will with bluetooth and Android wear devices.
Hi,
I keep loosing connection to my Chromecast ...
Every time I tried to connect it doesn't see it. It use to work flawlessly with my OnePlus and works well with my iPad, so it's not a network issue.
Any suggestions ?
Hell, I just performed a factory reset, did the whole setup and at the last step my phone could be see the Chromecast ... ?
Hi everyone,
I can't find any information on this elsewhere and wondered if anyoned else has experienced this or is having this issue.
I have a factory unlocked non-rooted Sprint LG V40 phone. And it was working perfectly fine, but suddenly I noticed that it cannot cast from the YouTube app onto my Sony XBR-65A1E. It keeps giving me the message "There was a problem connecting to XBR-65A1E." The phone casts photos perfectly fine to the TV. And can cast YouTube to the Roku just fine as well.
I tried clearing the cache and data and re-updating the YouTube app. I tried resetting the YouTube app on the TV. Hard resetting the phone. Turning on and off the TV. And nothing seems to work. I thought maybe it was a developer option I put on, but disabling it makes no difference. I deleted some factory sprint apps that I'd never use, but I dont think any that could affect that app. I'm kinda running out of options except factory resetting the phone and TV. And I'd rather not do that, as I'm not even sure if that would work.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

I ended up logging into the YouTube app on my TV. Then I went into the YouTube app settings, as I had about given up, and went into Watch ON TV, Thinking I would cast via a pass code. Out of frustration, I kept pressing "Link" text near the TV name a half dozen times or so. And suddenly YouTube app on the TV forced an update pending. I went into the play store app and updated YouTube now. Chromecast also updated. Still didn't work. So I turned off the TV a few mins. Turned it back on, and suddenly we are back. My phone now casts to the tv no problem! Must have been a bad update. Hopefully this helps out some other poor unfortunate soul.
