Is there an alternate way to turn off the screen?

In short, my power button is jacked up and at moment due to car troubles I have zero monies to even attempt to call HTC and see if they can do anything about it.
So I would like to know, is there an app that will allow other hardware buttons to power off the screen, or at least make a widget or something on the homescreen to power the phone off?
At the moment I am keyguard disabler to bypass using the power button to cut on the screen, but can't really do anything to cut the screen off.
I will work some on seeing if I can modify the keylayouts, but if anyone else knows anything, any help would be greatly appreciated.

only problem i see with the widget use is that once the screen is off, how would you turn it back on... remapping the hardware buttons would work, but then you wouldnt need a widget...
in the meantime just set the timeout on the screen to something small... just an idea i guess...

I use keyguard disabler which then I can use the trackball to cut it on and yeah, when I'm at work, I just cut it to 15 seconds so it doesn't stay on forever whenever I need to check the time.

I do agree with the shorting the awake time. I did this to change mine to 5 seconds. I installed lock 2.0 and then changed the settings to 5 seconds, rebooted and then uninstall lock 2.0. If for some reason I need the screen on longer to read web or email I use stay awake app. I have stay awake in the status bar. I haven't had good luck with the apps that make the screen stay awake like keyscreen and screeble.

So for example, normally, you have active display turn on automatically showing you just the notifications (still need to slide to unlock/wake screen) by vibration (assuming also light is detected ie not in pocket).
Is there a mod that I can add or an option where I can have this 'on vibration' open the screen immediately and not just on active display?
So something like what it's doing now by skipping the active display screen directly and just waking the screen and go straight to the phone.
And of course I have no password on my lockscreen

I have rooted, unlocked bootloader XT1053 with xposed and gravity box.

Sounds like a dead battery waiting to happen to me. If I bump my desk wrong at work and my phone isn't face down, active display lights up. It can do this several times in the period of 10 minutes, in essence leaving the screen on permanently.

There is nothing like this currently available....and IMO, that is a terrible idea. The whole point of AD is to provide notifications while just barely sipping battery power. Assuming such a modification was made consider this one of MANY scenarios:
You have your phone in your car, it 'sees light', it feels vibrations and so it turns on the screen. Now, not only are you using full battery power to light the display, but unless you reach over and click it back of with the power button, it is going to stay on for whatever length of time you have the display timeout set to.
Just imagine how quickly this could kill your battery....

well for those reasons I understand and would expect some toggle feature for when you want this and when you don't

Could you elaborate on which situations you would like the screen to turn on like that based on notifications instead or active display?

Set your screen timeout to 30 minutes and use the power button to turn it off. Then also turn off the lock screen. About as good as you're going to get, and short of coding the modification yourself, probably the best you'll get too.

I said in another thread recently.... Active Display is what it is. There's no way to modify it in anyway.

Camera button

Sometimes de camera button is unintentionally pressed in my pocket. I dont like to disable it. Does anybody know if the camera stays on until the battery is depleted or is there a auto shutoff after a while.

I just tried turning the camera on with the button then just leaving it. It reverted back to homescreen after a minute or so, then my normal display timeout applied.

How do you disable the camera button on the side of the phone??

I can't imagine that you can change such things without root.

If you activate the camera from off (locked state) the phone will just return to the lockscreen after a short period. So no harm.

Are you sure it is the camera button that is pressed and not tap2wake + tap on the camera icon on the lockscreen?
The reason why I'm asking is that for me I have to press quite hard on the camera button in order to trigger the camera, but it only takes three gentle taps on the bottom of the screen to start the camera.

I use a thight pouch case and thought it pushes the button but tap2wake might be the cause. I will try without to see if the camera stays off. Thanks.

You can disable it in camera settings inside the camera app

As the above poster said, open camera app, go into settings, and turn quick launch off, this disables the physical button on the side, and removes the camera button icon from the lock-screen.

But then AS you said the camera shortcut dissappears... And i use it quite often thats why i asked for a similar solution.... Without dissappearing shortcuts..

Turn capacitive buttons off while charging?

In daydream showing the clock on my tylt charger on my night stand its annoying that the capacitive buttons are lit up the entire time...figured google would have fixed this by now...guess not.
I just discovered that Lux, the autobrightness program, can turn them off entirely without root. Awesome, but i would like them on (normal) when not charging and off when charging.
Anyone know of an app that would do this that doesnt require root? I thought for any app to do it root was required, but lux proved me wrong on that, so now im on the hunt for a program that will.
Oh, and is there an easy root method out there yet on this?

If I had to guess I would say Tasker can probably do this. I don't have any experience with the app, but I know that it is capable of just about anything that can be done without root.

I used Tasker to do this with my Droid Razr Maxx. I don't recall if it required root or not...
Alert > Set Light is where you do it, find the one you want and set a value. My Moto X 2013 lists several options, but sure what the Turbo would list. Play around with it.

I had the same problem and figured out a solution that doesn't require root or an additional app...
Set a screen lock such as key code or pattern and the option where the power button locks it. With the screen off, hit the power button once to go to the lock screen but don't unlock. Daydream should start shortly without the keys lit.
I tried it and it works perfectly. A couple additional suggestions. For Daydream to start, you have to have it setup properly (i.e. on charge/dock/both). In addition, if you want it to operate in landscape mode, you'll need to run Daydream first in landscape. Turn the screen off with the power button and then turn it back on with the power button while leaving it in landscape mode. Don't unlock it and Daydream will start and the capacitive buttons will remain off no matter how dark the room is.

Revisiting this subject because the new lollipop update for the Droid Turbo has broken the solution I mentioned above. Anyone have suggestions on how to turn off the capacitive buttons while the phone is being charged and running a clock app?

Try an app like Darker. Just set it to turn capacitive keys off and 100% transparency. Then turn off the apps notifications.

Latest update nuked my watch ???

I have an LG G Watch R.
immediately after this update about 1.5 weeks ago that I installed my watch no longer functions as it functioned before.
I no longer get call notifications on the watch. previously when a call came in the watch would start vibrating the caller image would appear and I could answer or ignore from the watch.
this no longer occurs (HUGE functionality loss for me)
also "always on" no longer works. it always turns off VERY rapidly after a few short seconds and you can only turn it on again by pressing the button. no "ambient" mode any more.
and of course since ambient is off (I assume) twist to full on does not work anymore
touch will not wake it up twist will not wake it up ONLY pressing the button.
suggestions? these are simply massively functionality losses to me I flat out would not have bought it if it functioned this way when I got it. what's the point?
I am hoping this is something I can fix. yes I checked android wear no joy. I uncheck and recheck always on and the watch comes on for a second and then goes off again. still have to press the button to make it live again.

What is that? I do not see anything called cinema mode anywhere?

On active screen swipe down from the top and then wipe left. You will see Cinema mode and Sunlight boost.

That, or you can push the button twice really fast. Does the same thing, just quicker...

Thank you so much both of you that was exactly the problem watch is working normally now double tap and I noticed there was a tiny little icon in the middle of the screen look kind of like a little microphone icon the line through it very tiny but now I know what to look for if it happens again again thank you
