Hey all,
I'm trying to install a linux distro on my phone using linux deploy. But during the installation process I'm getting the error: FATAL: Kernel too old.
Currently I'm using My-ROM on my phone so that it's rooted and I can use it the way I want it to. However this seems to be shipped with a rather old kernel from 2014.
The kernel I'm using is: 3.0.8-00453-gb101afe
Is there a custom build kernel or a stock one out there for huawei ascend p7 that supports linux deploy, and I can simply do a kernel upgrade from within clockworkmod without messing things up?
I would even pay someone to build me a custom kernel that works for my phone with linux deploy if I have to...
I would very much appreciate it if someone knows of a solution.

The huawei p7 is basically dead, because developers have no interest in it, just buy a newer phone and from another company like htc, because Huawei has little interest even with it's current flagships.
Sorry I shouldn't have started this thread, the error message I got was distro specific and had something to do with glibc. It wasn't the kernels fault even though thats what the error said. I went with a different distro and everything is fine now. I do however agree with your comment. If I wanted to have the latest and greatest it's probably better to buy a new phone. But it doesn't concern me as much currently if I can get things working the way I want on this phone.
Hello colleagues, I just registered and I need your help on using Linux Deploy next to a kernel that brings the WiFi drivers to monitor mode.
What I want is to have the latest official ROM stock v7.1.1 with root, install the TWRP and then Linux Deploy with the Kali Linux distribution but I want to know if it is possible to install this kernel "kernel-nethunter-shamu-nougat-3.15.4- 20170211-0304.zip" that already brings the WiFi drivers for monitor mode.
This Kernel is from the Kali Linux NetHunter ROM and I know it works great with Nexus 6 but I want to have Linux Deploy with the WiFi drivers being in the official ROM. My question is, being in v7.1.1 with root and TWRP can I install the previous kernel without problems and will Linux Deploy work by detecting the USB WiFi card?
Greetings and thank you.
I need help, please.
Try it and find out. The worst that will happen is you having to restore a stock ROM.
There may not be anyone out there with your specific use case that can help you, so you probably will have to go it alone here.
Thanks.

This might be useful but the process is quite long and complicated and also windows is not as good as android as it is not as stable as the stock rom plus windows does not support touch screen primary devices with full functionality
My favorite tablet by far is my S2 T710, and I can't seem to find a comparable one that can run a more current android version. Many apps crash a lot on it, and I am thinking about rooting it and installing a more recent android to see if that improves things. My questions are
Is it worth doing? Or will I find things like "Netflix no longer works" ,etc?
I see that it requires using odin3, which seems to be just for windows. Since I have just osx and linux, I'm wondering if there is an alternative. And, even if there is, would I be better off borrowing a windows device to be sure of the smoothest installation
Thanks

I am going through the process of trying to install the SM-T710 version of Linage 18.1 (unofficial), see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...or-sm-t710-july-23-2022.4430339/post-86952281
I do not know if it is necessary to root the device before installing the special version of TWRP that it requires.

Rooting is not necessary. You don't need it for installing TWRP, or installing the custom ROM, or using the ROM.

Odin is not the only way to flash a custom recovery to a Samsung device. There's a package called heimdall for Linux, MacOS, and Windows that can do this.
As a guide, you could look at the LineageOS installation instructions for Samsung devices that have LOS official ROMs. Some of those explain how to use heimdall to install Lineage Recovery.
Obviously, you would substitute TWRP for Lineage Recovery.
For example, see Installing a Custom Recovery using Heimdall https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/beyond1lte/install#installing-a-custom-recovery-using-heimdall in the beyond1lte device instructions. Ignore the other sections of the instructions for that device, and once you have TWRP installed, use it to wipe partitions and flash the unofficial LineageOS ROM.
hetres the link to my drive OxygenOS12 module-rom-twrp-MEGA-DRIVE
the reserve folder has a way to ensure any finuished oxygenos12 works
If anyone need help let me know
This looks really cool but it's a bit overwhelming. Could you explain how I can, for example, install one custom rom on slot A and oxygen os 12 on slot B?
Can I dual boot two custom roms or is only oxygen os supported?
Will security lock on one rom affect the other rom?
Is the twrp62 fully working and flashable with oxygen os v41?
Could I format data as f2fs for any custom rom too?
