Flashing a ROM should not affect the recovery at all. How are you trying to get into recovery? If your ROM supports it, enable the Advanced Restart Menu (generally under Developer Options in settings) and reboot to recovery that way. Also, depending on the ROM, you can enable root access in the developer settings as well. If it is not there, flash the SuperSU zip to give you root from recovery.

Yes it will.
Hi,
Congratulations for that fantastic work.
I ran this Nova Recovery and I selected "Wipe Data" option, to reset to default settings. Then I select the rebbot device option. (Later I wiil install the Nova Rom)
But now when on the boot device they stay on same black screen flashing the 4 below lights.
Can anyone help me?
Lol, when you wipe data it will take a bit more time to boot.
I'm waiting for more than 15 minutes
Is the phone bricked?
As I can't access to any application, is there any way to enter in recovery menu?

If you don't have Nova ROM and you can't boot directly into recovery and you're stuck in the boot whenever you power it on, then you'll have to flash a firmware.

If you haven't nova, you cannot directly boot to recovery. Two ways:
Remove the battery and try again. It will probably fix nothing and may be harmful.
Or go to the firmwares flashing tgread and use method 1 by modaco to reflash stock firmware and do from there.

No, I don't hava a Nova Rom (I have the original rom).
I try remove the batery and power on it again, but the problem keeps.
So, I will try this:
"go to the firmwares flashing tgread and use method 1 by modaco to reflash stock firmware and do from there"

Cannot post the link since I am using Tapatalk, but just Google "P970 firmwares flashing xda" go to it, and read post with calm. Meanwhile, plug in the phone so you don't run out of battery when booting or whatever.

Thank you all for the help
I already have the Nova rom, but I only can unbrick? the phone by the method 2 of the referencied thread.
Ups, I didn't know relax was using ext4 on /cache.
This will cause some problems since the recovery isn't ready for it.
I'll later upload a new version.
Thanks!!! Maybe you can find some time to fix the progress bar, too

If this is only partially functional too, whats the benefit of installing this?
Noejn it's impossible rewrite the bootloader for hardware combination key for enter to recovery for use with all rom?
It's very dangerous for bricking the phone?

[Q] Problem with MIUI Rom, version 1.12.25

Hi There,
I'm running the above ROM that I had flashed yesterday, and I had realised today that the ROM hadn't given me root permissions.
I have followed many guides on how to fix this.
One of the main ways was too enable root permissions in SuperUser, but it isn't working as it's not showing that option.
I can't access Recovery Mode or download mode at the moment, even though the ROM is running perfectly other than not been able to use root apps.
I have tried a factory reset so the ROM is back as it was when I first flashed, but I still can't enable root.
I am wondering, is there a way I can flash an MIUI rom without root permission and the ability to access recovery?
If so, could you please point me in the direction of fixing this?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You could try to acces recovery through the ROM Manager app. Are you sure your ROM isn't rooted? Check if you have an app called Superuser installed.
SuperUser only lists applications that have asked for SU permissions. You can't add them manually.
Try running an application that needs SU access (like titanium backup), and see if it throws an error message, or popup that allows it to get SU access.
I've installed Titanium Backup and it says.. Root access: X FAILED.
I can't update my superuser binary files because it can't gain root access.
And yes I do have superuser installed.
I can't get into recovery mode using ROM Manager either.
Is there a way I can reflash a ROM? I do have mobile ODIN.. but it says it doesn't work with the MIUI kernel..

Not much you can do if you don't get access to download mode or recovery.
What you can do if it doesnt work is try the USB Jig that will force your phone into download/recovery mode. They are very cheap on E-bay i've heard
Just brought a jig, I'll keep you posted
Thank you

[Q] Knox, Knox, KNOX! Arrrgh!

So... I was running stock ROM for ever, until I decided to install CM. Anyways, just for curiosity, I decided to check for updates - and turns out, 4.3 was FINALLY out.
Anyways, fast forward a few hours, and I've already regreted updating. I rooted my phone but turns out Knox won't let SU turn on or anything.
Now I wanna flash CM (I don't really care about warranty) but have no idea what to do now. Someone please help a noob out?
Flash the PhilzTouch Recovery and in the Advanced options select root. Worked for me.
You will have your phone rooted again.

What about installing CM 11? I've encountered another problem: when I open the CM Installer app on my phone, it says my device is not supported? What gives?
Root with cf autoroot. Update supersu. Open supersu. Block knox. Install latest cwm or twrp. Install cm11 from recovery. Factory reset. Done.

[OTA] [KITKAT] For 98.18.94 stock phones

I had my phone download this and then just copied it off. My phones build was 98.18.94. Not sure what the difference between this and 98.30 is. I'm rooted so I haven't installed it but it's here for anyone that wants it. My phone downloaded a different version than I found online. It was version 182.46.10XT907.Verizon.en.US. I don't know what other phone builds it will work with. Either way use at your own discretion.

My understand is that it should leave the bootloader unlocked. It will replace the recovery, radio and other system partitions. If you removed anything from the /system/apps folder then I think it will fail/abort install. I've removed some so I need/want to RSD back to stock and then update but if I do then I'll lose root which I use.
Yes, and with SELinux and some other enhancements in KitKat I wouldn't even take a future root for granted.

Posting updates on how to use this thru the stock recovery.
This is how it is supposed to be used:
1 - Flash LATEST stock SBF of JB thru RSD. (Android 4.1.2
Blur_Version.98.30.1.XT907.Verizon.en.US)
2 - After RSD flash reboot phone on stock recovery and proceed to install update from SD card, here select the file that is provided at the beginning of the thread.
3 - After this first flash completes, phone is going to reboot in recovery again, to open the menu of this specific recovery, the combo of the buttons is power + vol up.
4 - proceed to install from sd card again and select the same file that you selected on the second step.
5 - Wait for it to finish
6 - Wipe data/factory reset
7 - Select restart system, Phone will restart in KK, enjoy guys.
Keep in mind that you have to follow the explanation at the beggining of the thread or this one, if you dont follow this steps like this, you wont be able to install this update or you wont be able to finish installing the update.
is this the offical KK update?
Yes it is official. Like I posted earlier, its OTA from Verizon.

I doubt it. It's for stock phones. It will need a stock recovery I do believe.
Hmmm..
My razr is stock & rooted, and I have manually removed several bloat apps. If I attempt to this update ota could it cause any harm to my system aside from possible abort/update fail? Will it remove root? Gracias.
It won't install... or its not suppose to.

My understanding is you can retain some root functionality using SuperSU Pro's Survival Mode. I believe you'll still lose R/W capability.
The best approach would be to unlock your bootloader. I've heard some success with custom recovery, though stock recovery would be best bet.

This method did not work for me after i flashed back to 98.30.1 the stock recovery doesnt see the update and i just get the android logo. When i go to software updates the service is unavailable/
my bootloader has unlock. and does it mean I can have root permission after I flash the stock zip package?
OK here it is, black and white and very simple:
Bootloader Locked - NO ROOT, NO CUSTOM RECOVERY.
Bootloader Unlocked - CWM Recovery and FULL ROOT with SuperSu.
That's it, no if ands or buts.

Recovery explanation needed

Alright everyone... I'm confused and getting more confused by the every thread I read. I'm going someone can offer clear advice and direction.
I'm very much used to flashing ROMs on Nexus devices. Unlock bootloader, flash recovery and away you go.
My current situation is this. I'm bootloader unlocked and have ressurection ROM installed. I was able to do this by flashing TWRP to BOOT. Then flashed the ROM. I now want to flash gapps, but can only get access to CM Recovery. Which doesn't allow zips.
His can I get a normal recovery scenario?
I think the easiest option is this:
Put two flashable zips on your phone, a zip containing the kernel for your current ROM and a zip containing a flashable TWRP recovery.
Fastboot any kernel which has TWRP, enter recovery and FIRST flash the kernel from your ROM and then without leaving recovery flash the TWRP zip. This should give you access to TWRP. Note that you might have to wait for a second vibration when booting since sometimes it will first check for the CM recovery and then the TWRP recovery.
Another option is to use an ADB based installer for recovery. I assume NUT's XZdualrecovery also works on CM based roms. Download the installer zip and with USB debugging enabled install NUT's dual recovery.
Hope this helps

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I finally flashed dual recovery again and realized that you do in fact need to wait for the second vibration. So I now can get access to TWRP.
But, again, thanks.

Haha, I've spend so many hours on my old Xperia V wondering why I never got in the right recovery, never noticed there was a second vibration either
Good luck with the phone and hope you enjoy the rom with gapps
