I will be moving to the note 5 from axiomtelecom.com in the coming days. As I have a memory card in the 4 but not in the 5, what is the best way to transfer content? Ie music, photos, stuff I've downloaded?
Also replicate the apps I have (Google back up never restores them all! ).
Thanks
U can use Samsung smart switch mobile app. Install this app on both the devices and just follow the easy steps. U can transfer everything including your apps.
U samsung smart switch where you put the back of each phone against each other and transfer data or there's an app called mybackup pro you can backup everything including the data or the apps on your pc or cloud.
Use Samsung Smart Switch app, but do not use mobile version, go to samsung.com and download PC version. Make sure you have enough space on your PC because everything will be backed up first to smart switch folder on your PC ( in my case it was 17 GB of stuff ) - pretty useful, because if something happens with your new phone, you have full back up saved on your PC, connect new phone and then everything transfers to new Note 5. I was in the same situation, coming from Note 4 to Note 5. What didn't transfer was notification sounds and ringtone sounds, they stayed default on the Note 5 set by Samsung, but you can retrieve them from your old phone via PC and manually transfer them to the new Note 5. All will be transferred, wallpaper settings, pictures, music, apps. call logs, messages. For once Samsung did something good.

So during the long eons between ordering my 64gb Midnight blue Nexus 6 and its actual delivery I am in pondering mode:
Best way to transfer the info & files from my GS4 sdcard to Nexus 6?
1. Connect GS4 to PC, drag 'n drop to pc file. Connect Nexus 6 to PC & reverse d&d?
2. Remove sdcard from GS4 & put into card reader connected to PC & do the d&d thing.
3. Card Reader for micro usb plugged into Nexus 6 & move the files into internal memory.
4. Is there a direct phone to phone method that won't take forever? If so, what?

Lolipop apparently has a new system to move content from your old phone to your new one via tapping them together (NFC). Not sure how it actually works, though - probably sets up a P2P share via WiFi and moves things that way.
In my opinion, the best way is the simplest: tether old phone to a PC then back up, tether new phone to PC and restore. You will not be able to get everything that way (texts, for example, aren't easy to move unless you are using something like Hangouts as your SMS app), but it will work for most things. And, of course, keeping as much stuff on the cloud to begin with is a good way to start; photos/music/docs, etc can just be pulled down from GDrive/OneDrive/DropBox/etc as needed.
I plan on using my < $1 OTG cable and an SD card reader.

Pretty sure the new transfer thing is lollipop to lollipop only.
Thanks for the info, guys.
Wifi direct and NFC are in kit kat, pretty sure. Someone mentioned an app called Super beam that is supposed to organize & facilitate the process.
In my experience wired communication has been faster than a wireless one. But the PC method takes two transfers. ...to pc & then back to the other phone. So the wifi direct method could be just as fast.
The otg cable & card reader sounds as if it might be the fastest since only a single, wired transfer is involved.
That said, I guess priority should be given to ease of use. Preserving the file / folder structure and being able to set up the whole thing as a batch operation would be paramount.

Nope ... It utilizes your google account to go and grab apps and setup from previous devices, plus if you use NFC it will use that to read the other phone. There have been several reviews and videos on it already.
ES File Explorer let's you transfer files phone to phone via WiFi. I'd imagine that putting it in a micro USB reader like the meenova would be faster though.
I backup all my stuff on OneDrive and Google Drive. All the app will be download when I activate the phone so no need to worry on that.

So what backup app do you use for this.
I know that Titanium doesn't back up personal data like pictures, music, documents etc

For personal data, I backup my photo on the cloud drive same with document. I usually load my music from my computer using iSyncr so no need to worry about personal data
I rarely put any important stuff on my phone only because I'm screw if i lost my phone
One way i get my stuff backup is set the directory on the cloud drive to backup. Not sure if Google Drive does it but I'm using OneDrive to backup all my photo directory

I backup texts using SMS Backup & Restore.
If you want to keep using the card as well, you can always do something like this.

Ah, yes. For every thing else there's Meenova. Thanks. I have one on order.
Hello All,
Just got the Nexus 6 coming from the Note 2, need to know the easiest way to get my text messages and photos from that device. I tried the NFC tap thing but if does not seem to work?
Photos.... copy them onto your computer and then paste them onto your Nexus 6.
Text.... use whatever SMS backup app you want, Titanium Backup has one. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore is another one.
Really you mean we still have to transfer files to our computer first to transfer, thats so old school to me. This was so much easier on the Note 4 with Smart Swap and somehow all my text got transferred automatically with the Note 4 too. I still like this Nexus though.
Use Helium it works great for not rooted users. Allows u to transfer data from apps such as angry birds, cut the rope, subway surfers, and any other app that doesn't backup to Facebook or Google+. However u need a PC with a very small program installed plus USB drivers to enable backup for non rooted users. Titanium is for rooted users only but works great also.
I Sync photos with g+ and backup text messages/app data with titanium backup. A USB OTG cable works well to transport the data from one device to another. If no access to USB OTG I use a PC.
Just make sure you unlock the boot loader before moving files to the new device as it wipes your device. Not a bad idea to flash a decrypted kernel as this will wipe your device also.

Its the fastest way of transferring files from 1 place to the next especially if you have a lot of photos. Alternatively, you can upload them to the cloud and download them.
was curious, wife is switching devices as title says. i dont really have time to sit at sprint or best buy. is there a way i cant back up her data such as calls, contacts, pictures. i always used Samsung and never had a problem. now its a LG and not sure what to do now. the S4 is unrooted and i know i could root in a snap, but dont want to bother with it unless thats the only options. app data would be out of questin since devices are different, correct? but anyways more important would be call logs, pictures, MMS and text, contacts..
thanx in advance..
First off make sure the contacts have been saved to google, not phone memory... When you log into your gmail on the new device it will automatically import your contacts.... As far as messages and call logs, use something like this app from the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync
It doesn't transfer picture messages so download all of them first and copy all pics to your computer and copy back onto new phone if you like...
You could always use something like dropbox or Google drive to save all pictures and files to "the cloud", allowing you to copy them back without a pc or otg usb flash drive
As far as app data, it can be copied, but both phones need root and use titanium backup.... Copy appropriate files to computer and back onto new device etc... There should be plenty of guides you can google to accomplish everything you want... I even copy ringtones and alarm tones etc to my new devices so I have the same sounds I like for everything because diff manufacturers use diff sounds, for example I use a Verizon exclusive ringtone on my now sprint device, because it's loud and annoying so I can hear it at work. Of course I root all my devices and that makes upgrading my device easy for me to keep all of my data

Was wondering if I'm doing this right or not.
Normally when I upgrade to another Samsung device , power on the new device go through the motions then after done I use Samsung smartswitch. Any better methods?
Cheers

If you can its better to do a new setup like only restore photos and contacts the rest do it manually in most cases setting up a fresh clean runs smoothly than restoring from backup
The only thing that get's backed up for me is my contacts and photos from my Google account. I've always liked doing a fresh install on new phones, not really sure if they run better or not. Little more time to set up but I kind of enjoy it.
I usually use Smart Switch to transfer only messages (SMS/MMS) and apps.
I do not have it bring settings across. Contacts, emails, browser book marks are all sync'ed to my Gmail Account. And Samsung internet browser book marks are also sych'ed to my samsung account.
Then I manually configure my favorite settings, widgets, short cuts, and launcher.
I'll use smartswitch, then use Helium to move apps AND their data over after smartswitch has done it's thing. I have a ton of apps that I need the data to migrate and since we can't root the only way to do that now is Helium. It is slow and clunky compared to Titanium, but at least it works (knock on wood don't want to jinx it), or has in the past with some effort and time.
It takes quite a bit of time (many hours) to get everything from my old phone to a new one. Part of me wishes I hadn't upgraded just so I don't have to go through the process. Oh well.

Why not just use the built in tool the phone maker provided built in? The software you pointed to, probably skims your data and sells it. Their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are sketchy as heck!!! What info do they reserve the right to share and with whom? It doesn't even give clear definition of that info, and they don't even give a list of who their "3rd party affiliates" are.
Hi all,
I've got a couple of questions regarding the Note9, which I'll be getting this week:
1. What is the best way to migrate everything from my Note4 to the Note9? I've read that there a few ways, what's the best? what do I do with content that isn't backed up like game's progress?
Does Smart Switch, for example, copy everything? Do I need to migrate everything to do with my Google account separately?
2. When using Nova on my Note4 there were a few things that were disabled when changing Samsung's launcher, like attaching Notes to the screen or using the calendar widget.
Does anyone know what we lose, if anything, by changing the launcher on the Note9?
Much appreciated.
I'm having the same problem with the calendar widget; is there a workaround to get the Samsung calendar widget working on GoLauncher?
To answer your first question (although you may not need the answer anymore but maybe other people do): I copied all my files from a Xiaomi to Samsung Note using Samsung's Smart Switch app, available on Google Play. Works well, except that favorites and settings within the apps are not copied to the new phone.
Helium Backup is a good solution for non rooted devices to transfer your apps including all data to a other device. Not all apps but around 95% of your apps you can copy....
If your devices are rooted, you can also use Titanium Backup - thats the best solution but works only with rooted devices.
I always use Titanium, since being rooted.
Not 100% on this but I've read it's better to do a clean install than full transfer, what I mean by this is just backing up through your Google account and redownload all apps and settings. Manually transfer documents, pictures, music etc.
If I were you I'd removed Nova launcher before using smartswitch to transfer. Better still do a fresh install as others have suggested.

Yeah, if you are running the stock Samsung Launcher then Smartswitch is the way to do this. As it litterally moves everything from your old android device to your new phone. It does a much better job if you are migrating from a Samsung device too. I use it when I upgraded from my N910C to my N950N.
correct, Helium Backup transfer also settings and datas from many apps including the application itself (not all apps), thats the reason why I prefere Helium Backup

I know it does but I once had pictures and somehow they became corrupted through Smart Switch, they still transferred alright to the new phone but I deleted them from the old phone and when tried to access them through the new phone they were all corrupted and I lost them, that's why I rather manually save them.
