Front Camera not working - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I own XT1068 device, currently running Minimal OS 3.0 ROM. Today, I noticed that my front camera is not working. I don't know when it stopped working but came to my notice only today. In stock camera app, if I change to front camera, I get an error message stating "Can't Connect to Camera". Tried different apps but either get the error message or the app force closes. I have even tried changing ROMs but all in vain. I feel it must be a hardware issue.
Any experience or troubleshooting tips?
Thanks.

Go to service center and get it replaced/repaired

Hit thanks if it helped

Have u tried by flashing stock firmware?

I had this same problem a few months back while using Blisspop. I guess there were some conflicts (I suppose) so I Factory reset first (including internal storage) and flashed Tesla. Problem got fixed. Reflashed Blisspop to check and never had the problem again.
So my solution is factory reset and try and flash another ROM.

Galaxy S Camera Problem

I recently updated my Galaxy S to v2.2 (JPH firmware) using Kies. I also rooted my phone using the relevant file and applied One-Click Lagfix V2.2.
I was very happy with it, except I tried using my device's main camera today and it doesn't work properly any more. Prior to the FW update, it worked just fine.
Now, each time I take a picture, the camera app appears to be working -- I can focus and so forth -- but once I press the shutter button, it seems to be processing and then I get a broken picture icon in the middle of the screen.
Unlike others in this forum, I don't get a "camera failed" message at all, just the broken icon.
I've read various posts on different forums as well as this one and have tried the following:
uninstalled OCLF,
switching from SD card to phone memory
re-flashing camera firmware
I'm not absolutely certain but I don't think it's the Camera apk because I tried taking a shot with the front camera and it works fine.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, what steps did you take to solve your problem?
i have the same problem as u too. and i am trying to find a way to fix it
here's mine problem
used to work with
CAMERA FIRMWARE INFO:
SESBDI07: OQLBDI13: NONE
but only the devil knows why I did this
- Camera FW update :
* *#34971539#
* Select "Phone to CAM FW Write" and "YES"
* Waiting for "firmware update success.
Click to collapse
and I got this
SESBDI07; SESBDI07; NONE (after update with XWJS7)
and finally my camera doesn't work @ all
any help appreciated

[Q] Camera not working, other solutions?

So my camera force close every time I try to use it..
So far I've tried different roms... like miui, cm7(used cm roms for a while), I've tried pure something roms, blandroid.. camera never worked.. tried one or two kernels too to no avail..
So I've reflashed everything to stock.. I mean STOCK lol.. still force closing..
anything else I might not know to try? Or I can assume it's an hardware issue?
I guess the reps at mobile store will throw a fit once they see the unlocked padlock lol if I ask for some help..
mmm.. i am having the same prob here....
i thought it is because of the ROM...mmm. i have changed to basically All the latest ROMs....failed to make the camera working.
MAYBE it is a hardware issue. My N1 fell from my bed. few times. Im not so sure it was before or after.
FOUND the solution to Camera Not working Nexus One.
You have to go back to Stock ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717870&highlight=frf91
1. Go back to Stock RoM
2. Then flash back to your FAV ROM - Mine is Miui AU..
not really the solution....
after 24 hours of working hard..
i failed!
Camera WORKING - when using stock ROM
Camera NOT working - when rooted and custom ROM.
What should i do ?
sadly I've already tried going back to stock.. did not work.. got some suggestions on another forum to try an clear the thumbnails and camera cache..
The Camera cache is stored under sdcard/android/data/com.cooliris.media...
Thumbnails are under sdcard/DCIM/thumbnails...
I had this issue within a month of upgrading to 2.2.3 on a stock Nexus One, and the fix for me was to re-format my SD card. I copied everything off to a PC, formatted and copied everything back and now the camera is working as intended. Hope this helps!

i tried already....not working...
i changed the Card, it works..!!
and it does nt again...
What radio you on? Try radio 5.0.8 if you're not already on it
Same problem here after flashing CM7 kernel on stock ROM. Did you fix it? Please help.
Did someone solve this problem? I have the same since yesterday (?!?) when i made the 2.3.4 update....
Maybe this problem is older in my n1, but i cant exactly say. I tried starting the camera app when sd-card is unmounted -> no effect, force close....
Actually... had a friend have the same issue. Though... it may or may not be the same as your issue. Brought it to an after service center near us and they cracked it open. They said there was a cable loose inside going to the board with the camera on it that was causing the issue. They put it back together and it has been working fine ever since. I am not exactly sure how a cable was loose inside where it shouldn't ever be moving... but it definitely fixed the problem. Hopefully you guys don't have the same problem.
Prior to going to the service center I backed up and flashed back to stock. Still had the same problem... though I seem to remember the message being odd when trying to use the camera. Was a while back so... >_< sorry.
Hm, i got this error in logcat:
V/CameraHolder( 1122): open camera 0
E/mm-camera( 75): main: MSM_CAM_IOCTL_REGISTER_PMEM ioctl failed for MSM_PMEM_AF type. ioctl return value is -1
E/mm-camera( 75): isp3a_init_ctrl failed

Does someone can give me hints?
Ok, i get interesting information within my tests:
camera is ok! works with CM7 and this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061648
But why not with my stock ROM?
I updated hboot/radio for a test -> No camera
Changed kernel (CM-Kernel, etc.) -> No camera
What else is the problem? I actually love my system and when i flash stock GRJ22 over it, camera works, but alle sd-apps are not avaiable and the memory ist nearly full.

[Q] Sudden Camera death

Hi
I read though thousends of posts by now but I couldn't find a solution for my pronlem
My camera isn't working any more
I was using the 4.8 version of Sentinel rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252953). There everything was fine. Than I flashed the update to 5.0 version of this rom and since than my camera is dead. I just get a black screen when I start it.*I tryed a lot to get it back working but nothing has been working so far.*I tryed the reflash sentinel, I flash other cams I flash other roms. On one of the other roms the phone said: "Can't connect to camera" or something like that. So I restored sentinel because nothing worked.
I always cleaned the memory of the phone (wipe cache and so on) befor each try.
Now I have no idea what to do.
Hope someone got a solution for me

[Q] Faulty hardware or something else? Please help!

Hi all, love this forum but dont post often.
Heres the problem: My HTC One m7 (international version) is acting strange:
* Sometimes when I turn on the display I have to enter my sim pin, as if it had rebooted itself, only I know it hasnt. It also happens regurarly when Im using the phone *poff* all of a sudden "enter sim pin".
* When switching from wifi to 3g/LTE it lags for minutes. It drops all connections, including regular gsm, and I have to enter sim pin maybe half the time I swith from wifi. Switching from 3g/LTE to wifi doesnt present the same issues.
* Its extremely laggy when these things happen, otherwise it works fine.
What I have tried so far:
* Old backup of Liquidsmooth 4.4. Works fine for a few days then these same problems starts occuring.
* Uninstalling apps. Thought I was onto something when I uninstalled SwiftKey and it worked perfectly for about 3 days! But then the problems came back...
* Tried other roms but I usually end up with the "unfortunately the process com.android.systemui has stopped" when the rom is up and fully booted. Its a loop that just continues (when pressing ok) so I cant do anything but reboot and try again. I tried probably 5 versions of Liquidsmooth but also Beanstalk and other aosp roms, even Lollipop versions (the liquidsmooth one worked but the same sim pin problems occurred). Havent tried any sense based roms. Also tried several versions of TWRP, official and unofficial. Still ends up with the com.android.systemui problem.
* Tried resetting permissions, wipe cache/dalvik and also wiped the entire sdcard. Used adb/flash to transfer new rom for installation.
So I'm basically out of ideas and pondering going back to stock and sending it in for repair, unless someone here has some tips since I'd rather try myself first.
Thanks for any help or input!

maybe your sim is faulty. try to get a new one from your provider. or it just has a bad contact in your phone.
about the lagging: did you try a clean flash? is your storage full? my phone gets pretty laggy when my storage is nearly full..
Hey thanks for your reply! However I dont think its the sim card, and as I mentioned I clean flashed several times with several twrp version and also twice with wiping all data on my sdcard...
Sorry if I can't offer a concrete solution, but I had similar issues (especially the first one, but also lag when switching networks) on my HOX+. Turns out it was the sim.
Try to test another sim before returning, and at least try a sense based rom. Since you say that it works without problem for a few days with Liquidsmooth 4.4, and then it starts breaking again, it may be rom (aosp?) related. But then again, it may be just random.
Hope you figure it out soon
Thanks akpe! I ordered a new sim card, if that doesnt help I suppose its something hardware related...
Well, the new sim card didnt help. My problem seem very similar to this: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...rops-on-some-nexus-4-handsets-fixes-in-sight/
Basically my whole radio disconnects and restarts itself when turning off wifi. Reading that androidpolice thread leads me to thinking about flashing an earlier firmware, from 4.2.2. I have no idea which one, or if I can use the one in that thread or not.
Any suggestions? I'd appreciate it, googling for hours and reading catlogs for days isnt getting me anywhere..
HELP!
Hmm wasn't that a Google issue which got fixed by HTC in the latest OTA? Try a ROM which has the hotfix (like latest ViperOne, 7.0.2) and see if you still get this

Hi akpe! I took your advice and am now running ViperOne 7.0.2 and so far it WORKS! So it seems it was indeed that google bug. HUGE THANKS!
Is it possible to have the aosp lockscreen when at the same time using a pin? I can't seem to figure that out.
Thanks again!
Glad it worked
As for the lockscreen, no idea mate, I'm using the stock one :/ Ask around in the ViperOne thread, maybe someone there knows
Ok, thanks again!
Another thing I cant find is profiles? Need it to make whatsapp notification sound silent when listening to music..

Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950F camera not working

Hey guys,
So basically my camera stop working. Two days back update the phone to the latest firmware (Android 9) and security patch (March 1). Installed TWRP and rooted with magisk. So far everything was working fine. Today needed to restart the phone and after the restart my camera disappeared. In camera app I get just black screen without error. Same thing happen with third party app. Trying in safe mode, same results. In an app
iDevcheck under camera tab there is nothing, no information at all.
Ideas?

If it was me, I would flash stock filmware with Odin to see if it resolves the issue, if it does not, it is probably a hardware issue, in my opinion, or maybe the camera ribbon cable has disconnected somehow.
''Can't turn on flashlight because the light is being used by another app''
This is what I discovered today. Still kinda think it's a software issue. At the moment don't have the chance to flash stock firmware.

Factory reset?
Factory reset did not helped either.
I guess something went wrong during the rooting process.
