USB not recognized - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, got an issue that I cannot seem to figure out. Got a nexus 6 on factory stock LMY47E that will not recognize any of my computers via usb. I've tried everything, uninstalling the drivers (as per the Wugfresh toolkit), complete factory restore - nothing. Windows doesn't show anything connected in device manager, or doesn't make any connection sound. I have another Nexus 6 that works with the usb no problem, and shows in device manager. Now, if I reboot into the bootloader, windows makes the connection sound but nothing shows up in device manager. It does have usb access in fastboot, and will write factory image with the toolkit. But when I try and install TWRP with the tool kit it reboots the phone and the usb doesn't recognize so it cannot finish. I've tried un-checking/re-checking MTP, tried un-checking/re-checking usb debugging - nothing. Is something possibly corrupt? Am I missing something?
I have read through the help and tried this guide here with still the same results, no usb connection in windows after everything is completed.
Appreciate any help
Thanks

anyone?? even a nudge in the right direction would help lol

in the developer options, did you go ahead and set what you want your usb to do? if not, it has no idea..

I'm thinking possible bad cable. Had that happen to me and my 6 until I changed out the cable. After that, worked like a charm.
Also, is it windows 8 or 10?

Also tried this too, just forgot to mention it. I am running Windows 10, and tried using not just another cable, but other computer and OS as well. I am beginning to think that it a hardware issue.
Thank you for your replies!

Driver Help

Note: I have searched the forums/google/youtube and done just about everything suggested.
I downloaded the SDK thinking my computer would notice the drivers ... it doesn't
I've installed, uninstalled, rebooted, power cycled, disonnected, reconnected, deleted, added etc... And Windows still does not recognize my Hero.
I don't know what to do now, as I thought I was going to just simply root and keep it moving, but I can't even get transfer contacts yet. Anybody have suggestions? Tips? Anything? I'm desperate here
Running: Vista x64
Make sure you download and install HTC Sync here and turn on USB Debugging on your phone by pressing menu, settings, applications, development, and check USB debugging. Also turn on unknown sources in the same menu in applications.

I've done this too ... multiple times
Ok, try this link and download the htc drivers for the hero. When its looking for the drivers, browse for the location yourself and point it to the drivers that you downloaded (once you extracted it)

Sigh, tried this too. Windows just keeps telling me it cant find the driver - even when I direct it to the folder I've never had this happen with any other drivers I've installed
try removing the device in device manager and remove SDK and then go back through the steps of installing htc sync plug in your phone then run SDK

Lol yea I've done that too. Maybe it's my system. I just plugged the damn thing in to my office computer and the phone recognized the USB, and on the computer I can see the mSD - none of which have happened on my system at home.
Thanks for all the help, if anybody else has suggestions feel free to keep em comin!
i have had problems with two of the four computers that I have it installed on.
both of them i think i used different versions of SYNC to get it to work but I can't remember.

I'd be happy to even get THAT far. My computer wont install drivers, my phone doesn't detect that its connected via usb, so I'm unable to mount. So there's no chance of even using SYNC yet lol. I guess I should be happy I didn't rush out to get that EVO just yet, cuz I'd kill over if I were having this problem with that phone. With the Hero, it's annoying cuz I can't transfer music or root yet.

I had a similar problem. First does you phone charge from the USB port? if not find a different USB cable. I have heard thicker is better but all the ones I have tried have charged it.
If it does charge but you can get Windows to recognize it as ADB then install PDAnet on your computer. You can find it with a google search. I got really frusturaded getting the drivers to work too, but PDAnet worked on the first try.

I use the stock USB, which does charge it via any USB connection. However I notice that when I plug it into a system at work (Windows 7) the phone recognizes the USB connection and allows me to mount [I'm adding music I sent to myself this morning to the phone via this Win7 system]. Whereas the system at home the phone doesn't even see a USB connection present, so no mounting option. (I've tried all 4 USB ports on my personal laptop)
I'll DL PDAnet either tonight or tomorrow and see how this works. Thanks for the suggestion, and I'll keep you posted.

Ok I've finally gotten the phone and computer to see each other. So I now have access to the SD card, however Vista still is not locating drivers.
Methods tried:
Installing, Uninstalling HTC Sync (various versions, new & old - including several reboots)
A tether program suggested in this thread
PDAnet
Directed Vista to folders with drivers.
Downloaded suggested drivers to Vista and pointed the system to particular folder
It's great that now I can take care of adding music etc... to the phone, but I had hopes of rooting as well, and it doesn't look like that's going to be a reality.
I'm still completely open to suggestions, and very grateful for all the assistance so far!
Since I just got this phone from asurion it's still on 1.5 would updating help? (I didn't want to update android for fear that I wouldn't be able to root, as I heard some update went out that prevented ppl from rooting)
-----------------
UPDATE:
I must have THE WORST Karma in the world, as soon as I posted this I stopped being able to see my SD card, and the phone keeps wanting to sync with HTC sync. No option to mount the USB anymore. I'm ready to bash my head and this phone repeatedly into a brick wall (after throwing my notebook off a balcony)
do you have sdk installed.
i had a hell of a time and ended up installing sdk in mydocuments instead of the root C:
again this is just one computer. my windows 7 machine was good from the start.
i haven't tried vista yet.
let me retrace my steps and see if i can help
this is also an option for rooting http://unrevoked.com/
i haven't tried it myself but you can download it to your phone and with a file explorer you can install it.
I've given up. This issue has made just pushed me completely away from Windows. I've realized that practically any USB device plugged in (except my old win mobile device) isn't recognized. Switching to Linux and hopefully a more compatible android experience.
Thanks for all the help!

My only thought (after having similar problems at work) is that there are still driver issues. I found a program called USBDeview that can be used to remove drivers left behind by other removal methods. It requires admin rights, so if you don't have those, sorry. If you still want to try, the program was a free download found using Google. Remove the drivers, reboot, and give it one more try.

When you installed the drivers, did it show that all of them were successfully installed? Maybe try re-installing them?
Did you go into sd and storage settings and uncheck mass storage mode only? Uncheck that to enable the other usb modes and devices.

Which cable are you using? have you tried a different one?
when you put the drivers on did you manually install them or did you run through the process windows does after plugging in the phone
And are you positive you got the correct drivers? Remember...uninstall the old drivers before attempting new install

[Q] Rooting w/o USB connection

Hi, guys! I have a really big problem :/. Right now I'm using the stock 2.3.4 gingerbread from LG ,but you all know that this is the worst OS ever. I wanted to get rid of it but i cant connect my device to the computer. It's only charging. I need a way to root it w/o usb connection. Do u have any suggestions? It's not a software problem! Something inside the phone is broken and i don't know what it is. Is there a way to root it via bluetooth or SD card? I didn't find any apps to root it too. I know gingerbreak etc, but they dont work for 2.3.4. Thank you in advance and i hope there is a solution. :fingers-crossed:
I am afraid you can't. Replacing your micro usb port could solve your problem. I reccomend to buy a micro usb port which is already on the flexible cable so you can avoid ironing.

So i'll need this? I asked a staff member in a service station and he said that the port isnt broken. So i need the whole thing port+flexible cable? Is that what i should do? Thanks alot. stupid question: did you try another usb cable or usb port?
Yeah, dude. Of course. I've tried different settings like usb debugging on/off too but still nothing.

i forgot how the mass storage settings in gingerbread look like but there should be an option to put the phone in "charge only" mode (which you should disable)... pressing menu key in settings > storage doesn't give you any options to choose?
In gingerbread you can only turn usb mass storage and usb debugging on/off. These settings didn't help. I'll read more about the first link you gave me and try it out.

This is quite challenge, root without usb connection. First idea I got to use ADB over WiFi, but this is available from ICS, not on GB.
Second idea - what I remember, some of root methods use APK installation over ADB by script. Maybe you can search for these script methods and place all required files on SD Card. Then try to execute commands by terminal on device itself to install and root.
It's just my idea, maybe wrong, maybe help.

Yes that is what you need if you have to replace your USB port but you don't have skills to replace only the usb port.
You can try gingerbreak to root your phone, but it maybe won't work.

Guys, the problem is not in the computer nor in the cable, it's in the phone. I'm 99% sure that it's a hardware problem. So i need to find a way to root or flash it without using usb connection.

if you read the 1st post, you might find out how could it help you... especially if you use win 8 which caused problems for many other users when trying to install the drivers or trying to flash the phone...
I - Install APX (NVFlash Recovery) Drivers if not already installed.
It starts the windows device driver wizard to help you install the drivers needed for NVFlash. It detects your system OS and gives additional on-screen instructions needed if your PC is running Windows 8.
FYI: The drivers are located under ToolKitFiles\nvflash\driver folder.

Drivers Tried everything!

I have spent Friday and Saturday trying to get drivers installed on my Nexus 6. Thanks man, but that's how I unlocked and rooted my phone. It's also how I screwed my phone up, trying to undo the forced encryption. Did it all with Wug's Nexus Tool Kit. I always have issues with Nexus devices being recognized. I always have to plug the device in, go to the device manager, and delete anything that has to do with the device, including any labeled as ADB devices. I've also found it helps to go to "View" and hit "Show Hidden Devices". After deleting them all, I unplug and replug the device and install the Universal Naked Driver from this thread.

I assume with it being a Toshiba Satellite its running windows, what version? The older OS's seemed to be less finicky then W8, Have you deleted and re-installed the google drivers from http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html or from another site? Have you tried any different PC's? Have you checked the windows hardware event logs for any error messages? Have you been able to put in say a thumb drive into the usb port and it work? Are you on as admin and all that security crap? Do you have usb debugging on in the developer area on the phone? Are you able to get it into fastboot mode? If you do fastboot devices does it show anything at all? I assume you have rebooted the PC, but I'm still surprised how many issues that fix's.
Just some suggestions, I know how frustrating it can be. Good luck.
Thanks. I did that and I downloaded an Intel driver so now the computer recognizes the phone in Device Manager.

No, I have a Nexus 6 that the computer won't recognize. ADB and SDK also don't recognize the phone.
I am using my old Samsung S4 for emergency support. It's not hooked up with AT&T since I got the Nexus 6. I have to return this computer tomorrow. I am starting to wonder if it's computer problems with phone problems.

When you type ADB command in the DOS Box, there should be a popup on the mobile whether you wanna allow access from this computer.
Did you select yes and remember that PC?
I had this problem when I did my nexus 6, something on the laptop I was using was conflicting, I moved to another laptop and it worked like a charm never went back to figure out what was conflicting. Do you have access to another machine?

Will Not Mount

As the title says, new Nexus 6 will not mount with my PC (Windows 7 using moto x 2014 USB cable). I was able to mount using my Nexus 6 USB cable on my other laptop when rooting, but now at work, I can charge, but can't mount...yes MTP is enabled and I've toggled USB debugging and installed all drivers.
If anyone has similar issues, please let me know.

You might want to look at the Nexus root toolkit thread. I believe that has a way to install different drivers for this type of situation. Not 100% certain of that though because I don't use it but I've read about people saying something like that.
Also, have you tried to update your drivers manually? Device manager>right click on Nexus>properties>drivers>update>navigate to where you have them? You probably have but just want to be sure. Make sure none of them show the error.
