@azuldio is correct as long as you do not root or repackage your firmware.

Getting Marshmallow on Unlocked S6 For Straight Talk

I purchased an unlocked S6 fit my father in law to use on Straight Talk. It's got 5.1.1 on it currently. What's my best course of action to get Marshmallow? Try to get the official AT&T carrier update? Or root and flash something else? I don't have experience with MNVOs. Thanks in advance.

You'll have to check some of these threads to see if 5.1.1 can be rooted. I forgot when it got locked to the point we can no longer root.
I am on Straight Talk and added FOTA to the list in the APN type setting and get my OTA updates. The most recent was a kernel dated Nov 2.

[Question] How to debrand AT&T to unlocked firmware

Hey Guys,
I tried searching unsuccessfully for some answers on flashing stock unlocked firmware. I want to debloat and receive updates straight from Samsung and not AT&T. Do you guys now of any guides floating around? Or which firmware to flash (SM-N950u1) <-- Unlocked firmware?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I used this guide to flash my AT&T Note8 to Stock Unlocked Firmware https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884
Pretty straight forward and afterwards no AT&T bloat. I even get better battery life.

What security patch are you on? Do you get OTA updates or do you have to manually update? Do you get LTE and LTE-A signals?

I'm on the August security patch only because I'm still debating on if I want to root or not as the newest security patch kills the possibility of root. As for OTA updates, there was one released a month or so back and I was able to update to it with no problems. As for LTE and LTE-A which I assume is LTE+? I get both with the same if not better speeds and signal strength.

Do you know if the unlocked software is updated to the newest patch yet? I'm trying to figure out which version gets the updates first.

I got an update on my unlocked Note 8 about a week or so ago, brought me to a December 1 patch level.
Still on November security patch.. No latest update yet.
Are you guys with ATT?
With no info about the update... I am not sure if I want to update it lol

Since it is unlocked, U1, the update came from Samsung. not att. It was a minor security patch that brought security up to the December patch.

Thanks for telling them where the updates come from for the unlocked devices.
Carrier branded phones will get updated from that said carrier ok.
Sent from my Galaxy Note8 using XDA Labs

Question about Note 8 - N950UZKAXAA - firmware update back to unlocked/carrier free

I have N950UZKAXAA (USA Unlocked, carrier free) but about 8 months ago, i flashed the carrier version of Oreo with the hope that it supports AT&T wifi calling, but it was still blocklisted, so i moved on to Sprint. It gets monthly security patches up until February 1 (currently on N950USQS5CSA1).
I want to flash back the carrier free firmware, as i think it got Android Pie. Is it possible to flash Android Pie or Oreo again? If so, what version is good to flash?
Thanks
I think I can follow this below firmware ?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884
Oreo
N950U1UEU3CRC1
with "Odin3_v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD" ??
The guide says : Note - If you are flashing Unlocked Firmware from Carrier Firmware you must use Prince Comsy Odin otherwise, use regular Odin.
But no prince comsy for Oreo !!!

The Z builds are all bets builds. If you're still on a beta build of Pie, you'll need to flash to an official release. I sold my Note 8, so I'm not sure what the current build number is.

Question Using the G998U1 (US Unlocked) version outside US

Im using the SM-G998U1 (US Unlocked) Snapdragon variant of the S21 Ultra in Pakistan.
The official latest OTA update for Jan 2023 rolled out about 15 days ago but I haven't received it on my phone yet in Pakistan.
How long does it usually take for OTA updates to roll out outside US or specifically in Pakistan after official roll out?
It depends on the region and carrier?
Did you go to Settings-System Update?

The phone I have is US Unlocked version. The carrier I have the sim for is Jazz in Pakistan. The G998B i.e. the locally sold Exynos version has already gotten the update.
Yes, I have tried the Settings-Software Update

Hi I got the update normally. There was a delay in release of update for this region. Now updating normally on a monthly basis.
Try Smart Switch desktop app if you aren't getting the update.
