Device: Moto G (2nd Edition)
Service: Republic Wireless (uses Sprint's network)
Android: 4.4.4
Rooted: no
Issue: As of yesterday, installing apps does not work. If through the Play Store, the download hangs around 90% permanently (I believe it is attempting to install - I have seem it jump from 90% to "installing" before). If through side-loading .apk's, the install screen hangs. I have cleared the data/cache and force stopped: (1) Google Play Store, (2) Play Services, (3) Google Service Framework; after restarting, the problem persisted.
I would like to avoid factory resetting. Also, I am afraid of uninstalling updates to the above 3 system apps and reinstalling, considering the fact that I currently cannot install anything. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you!
EDIT: Additional info:
I have 4.7 gig free out of 13 usable (16 total iirc). I used ES File Explorer to clear "junk data" as they call it (cache/temp files). I just now cleared the cache through the android system recovery mode (guide on androidpit).
Somewhere in the background the 2 apps I was attempting to side-load seem to have installed (without notifying me) after I "quit" the install. However, after uninstalling them and trying to reinstall it still seems to hang (15 minutes as of this message, with a 2 mb app).
Also I do not know if it is relevant, but after restarting I cannot use the power button to "sleep/lock" the phone for the first 30 sec ~ 2 min. After that it works fine.
Thanks again for any advice!
Try changing ur screen time out to 30mins, so that the screen is on while the app is downloading, if that doesn't work ... Clear ur cache and dalvik cache via recovery. Or download the apps using a 3rd party App Store Like Amazon underground /get jar /mobogenie or uc browser , coz a factory reset might solve the problem Which you wouldn't prefer.

Turned my phone on today and found that there were only my paid apps listed in "My Downloads" and none of the free apps I'd downloaded, did some searching and found the fix, which was to find an already installed free app, uninstall it via Market then reinstall. All my free apps returned to their rightful spot in "My Downloads".
Unfortunately before I had found that solution I did the usual troubleshooting of clearing the cache and data for the Market app itself.
Problem is that now the Market app won't update itself to the newest version (newest version has the "Update Automatically" checkbox for apps that I very much want back). Previously I'd cleared the data for the Market app and it had updated itself back to the newest version no problems, but for some reason this time it's not doing it.
Apparently the Market app updates itself if you open the Market, hit the Home key and then wait 10 minutes, but it's just not doing it for some reason. I've tried a number of combinations of reboots, clearing cache, force closing the Market app etc. etc. but have had no luck. I've found a few vending.apk files on the net including a few here on XDA but none of them seem valid as Package Installer doesn't recognize them as a valid apk.
Any suggestions? Milestone running stock 2.1update1, rooted.
I wanna update manually too, if it's possible?
I'm still on 1.82...
i don't know why. from China to help you up.
Users still looking for a way to manually install the market update should checkout this article h t t p://eugeneorourke.com/go/1369. It gives steps on how to update the market through recovery mode that worked well for me.
I run cm7 off an sdcard, and I wanted to do a complete reinstall. Everything went well and installed gapps, but after that market decided to get all the apps I previously had installed all at once. It queued up like 72 + downloads. Now they hang and none will download.
I tried clearing the cache, signing out/in from gtalk, cycling the wifi, clear market cache and uninstall update as other forums suggest.
Nothing will install via market at this point.
Android.process.media has stopped on boot up and also a similar message when trying to get into the cyanogenmod settings. I also noticed that wiping the system, data and cache did not truly erase all the original files and settings from the stock ROM. It connects to my wireless router without prompting for a password and also had my previous wallpaper, which I have since changed in case the file was too large and causing a problem. When I start up I have the following running automatically: Market process and service, Google services both a process and service, CMStats both a process and a service and Android Keyboard both a process and service. Is that correct? Who else is having these issues? BTW, I have 309MB of RAM free.
Tried this with the last stable CM, and nightly builds 85, 86 & 87. Same issues with all. Went into application data and cleared the cache. Cleared the cache isn the market app. Tried to reset permissions as well.
At the moment, I do not have an immediate for the CM settings, but I did install the overclocking file so I would like to try it at some point.
Also, I heard someone resolved the 1st FC by updating the market, but I can't see a way to do that other than reinstall, which I did.
Wiping the data doesn't delete original (stock) apps and settings from the ROM. It only erases and resets any apps or settings you've made personally. Sounds like you have all the correct services running at startup. I'm not really sure what's causing the FC issue. Do you have the newest version of Google Apps?
Have you tried fixing permissions via terminal emulator?
I've been fed up with the poor battery life on Lollipop and Marshmallow, so I decided to downgrade my Z3c to KitKat. I did it "by the book," using Flashtool to downgrade (I checked both boxes to wipe everything in Flashtool), giefroot, dual recovery, etc. I installed a prerooted zip of 23.0.1.A.5.77 and then flashed RICdefeat and a mod specifically designed for 23.0.1.A.5.77 so I could have Xloud. Both the prerooted firmware and the mod are from XDA. So far so good. I had root and recovery working perfectly, and I started downloading my apps from the Play Store.
Everything looked great until I tried to access the Play store after the first reboot. The Installed Apps under the My Apps menu would not show up at all, and anything I tried to download would just hang at "download pending" and never make any progress. Furthermore I could not download anything from my browser (Chrome). And every time I tried to assign ringtones or notification sounds, Media Storage crashed. I did some searching and found that the Download Manager and Media Storage are somehow linked and seem to be the cause of this problem. Things went back to normal after I cleared the cache (or force closed if there was no clear cache option) from both of those in settings, but this does not persist after a reboot. So every time I reboot the phone, I have to go back and clear those manually, and then re-assign all of my custom sounds (ringtones, notifications, etc) due to media storage being cleared. Luckily I don't reboot all that often, but obviously this is not ideal.
I do have Xposed with a few modules (Gravitybox, Amplify, Greenify, etc.) installed, but this problem occurred before I even installed Xposed. I use Titanium Backup to freeze some of Sony's bloatware. Otherwise I'm basically stock with a locked bootloader, and I have plenty of free space on internal storage.
What is causing my download manager and media storage to keep messing things up, and is there a fix?
You mentioned that you have frozen some of the Sony's bloatware on your phone. Might have something to do with that!
About the download pending on Play Store: Play Store might be needed to be updated, so go to settings (sliding menu from Play Store) and tap on Build Version, it will say something like "Newer version will be downloaded and installed etc" IF you have an old version of the Play Store.
Hello everyone and sorry if this has being posted/answered before.
I'm currently running OOS 4.1.3 with SuperSU and Magisk (in case that matters) and whenever I try to install a game or app larger than 100mb the download would stop at certain percentage (the same for every app). I've tried un installing the Play Store updates, clearing cache and data, restarting, clearing Dalvik, and the result it always the same.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I have the same for one app, but no idea if it's size related... Will test.
Removed all Play Store permissions, rebooted and enabled all permissions. Working now.
