HI, I got this phone yesterday, it is now rooted with a custom CWM recovery and it's a great phone!
No issues so far, seems fast and stable and even plays flac files!
DISCLAIMER:
Rooting your phone and using custom Recoveries and ROMS have risks and may result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturers. In case of any mishap I am not responsible if you brick/ruin your phone in any way.
Basic computer skills are required and minimal knowledges about phones and phones utilities too.
Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility.
How to root :
You need to download four files
1. CWM Carliv 6 Elephone M2.zip
or TWRP_M2.zip
2. SP_Flash_Tool
3. UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
4. MTK_Drivers_carliv_repack_win7_x64.zip
Copy UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip to your internal storage card on your phone. You will need this later.
In Windows (not virtualbox) extract CWM Carliv 6 Elephone M2.zip, SP_Flash_Tool_5.1532.00.000_Windows.zip and MTK_Drivers_carliv_repack_win7_x64.zip
Go to the MTK_Drivers_carliv_repack_win7_x64 folder and click flash_tool
Then Click the Download tab at the top.
In that window click the Scatter Loading button and browse to the CWM Carliv 6 Elephone M2 folder and select the CWM Carliv 6 Elephone M2 file.
View attachment 3563620
Click Download.
Turn off your phone
Plug the USB cable into your phone and into the computer
Don't turn on your phone
When the Windows driver installer pops up cancel searching Windows Update and make it install the driver from MTK_Drivers_carliv_repack_win7_x64
You may have to force this by agreeing to install a non-signed driver, don't worry, it will still work.
Your phone should stay on a black screen, if not do this again until Windows has the correct driver.
You need to have the Preloader driver installed, once it is the flash_tool will flash the recovery.
The phone boots to Preloader then normal boot, if you miss the preloader option you have to restart and try again.
If your phone does not reboot (mine did not) you need to turn off the phone and then turn it on while holding Volume +
You will get three options on the screen
Recovery
Fastboot
Normal
You change the option with volume +
You choose the option with volume -
We want recovery
In Recovery
The volume buttons move up and down
Power selects the option you are on
You need to Install Zip
choose file from /sdcard
0/
UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
After installation choose reboot and YES fix root!
Your phone will restart and you will now have root access.
All credit for the recovery : Caliv
sorry, but how did you root it?
Flash the custom recovery and then flash update_supersu.zip from the internal storage card.
Edit : Guide in first post.

Hello Kangburra i am from germany and i have no x64 bit PC-System. Have you the MTK_Drivers_carliv_repack_win7 for 32 bit system? So that i canflash it on a german WIN 8.1 32-bit system ?
CWM means it is also a recovery for the case if the flash fail
Thank you for answer.

Finally I obtain access root on Elephone M2. I try three time but was my error.
Thanks Kangburra for your attention and instructions.
CWM Carliv 6 For Elephone M1 can anyone help me?
Got no popup and cannot install the MTK_Drivers_carliv_repack_win7_x64. My phone reboots normal :/
Is the phone plugged in when you restart it? Is there a failed device in Windows Device Manager?
No failed device in Device Manager and the phone is plugged in. I've got it working and can access it with the Explorer in Windows. But the Flash-App doesn't flash a recovery
The driver for windows is not the same as the preloader needed to flash.
That's correct. But how can I change it (windows 7)? Don't know what I must uninstall and how I can install the correct drivers.

Kangburra, great post, txs
Lost my suscription, so starting again as newby
Why would I root? Many sites warn against it.
Rooted my previous non-brand Chinese phone with Android 4.1.1., only 1GB of RAM and partitioned phone memory (12 Mb)
Used Kingroot, worked like a charm, usefull because of partitioned phone memory and could get rid of junk & tmp files. Did not solve low RAM btw (Android too old for swap apps)
bought M2 for bigger RAM, but only 780 Mb out of 3 GB available for apps (in my phone, checked with several appps); get the impression that this is due to the launcher that Elephone installed (becomes visible after installing Nova). As I understand it, the so called UI is only a launcher (60 Mb). Why then so much RAM in use?
So my question(s) to you: (1) do you agree with memory findings, and (2) will this improve with root?
TXS in advance for your thoughts

I plan on installing the CyanogenMod once I get my Nexus One. I have heard many positive things from him, especially from G1 owners
My question is, is the Cyanogen wiki guide sufficient for someone who can read and understand directions? It's located here:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Nexus_One_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
I have read everything and it seems to be laid out nicely! I haven't encountered any steps that were confusing at all.
My only question is the lack of partitions. I've watched some youtube videos and they are always taking about setting up partitions (using words like "ext4" and "ext6"). But this guide doesn't mention anything regarding this. Does this guide do the partitions automatically without user intervention?
edit:
I actually do have questions.
Regarding the "Flash Recovery."
1. Note: The Recovery.img should NOT be on the SD Card, it should be in the current working directory.
2. On the command prompt you opened earlier, type in the following command.....
Where exactly is the current working directory? Do I need to select it or do Ii simply enter the command "fastboot flash recovery Recovery.img"
Many thanks! I haven't done anything yet but just want to go over the steps so I don't get lost!
the working directory will likely be the tools directory of your SDK, or whatever directory you have fastboot.exe in.
Before writing in fastboot flash recovery, you need to navigate to the tools directory in the cmd prompt, either by typing "cd" then the /route/to/the/directory, or in vista and above, go to the tools directory, right click while holding shift and go to the option "open command window here"
Don't worry about partitions unless you intend to use apps2sd.
Easiest way to parition for apps2sd is with amon ra. Just follow the prompts, no directions required. Figuring out what size you want those partitions or swap, not so easy. I searched for ages without coming across anything concrete. Ended up going 64 meg swap, 1 gig ext 4 and the rest FAT.
the working directory is the place you extract the AndroidSDK file (usually in the local C drive, so it may look like this: C:\AndroidSDK-windows\tools\
once you install the usb drivers and get adb/fastboot working, you'll usually be running cmd commands from inside the "tools" folder
those directions in his wiki are perfect; as for partition, if you want to use Apps2SD, it's really simple to do as it's one of the options under Amom-RA's recovery image
Thanks guys!
So the partitioning is actually related to Apps2SD? This means that I do all the partitioning after the rom is installed?
Before, all data is lost when you partition. You can mount the sd after you partition while in amon ra and move the rom over then dismount it. Before you flash wipe everything. My advice would be to do a nandroid on the old sd to start. Then copy all files from the old sd to the pc, only takes a minute.
EDIT:
I went to the following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613217 and it worked that way. I am not sure why that method works but it does
Hmm it seems I have trouble already.
After I install the USB drivers via Android SDK, and then enable usb debugging mode,
When it installs drivers, one of them doesn't install:

No apologies! You are correct though. That is the why to install it if it can't automatically find it
Anyway, I managed to install it! The instructions are very clear so props to whoever created that wiki page!!
I do have one more question and it's regarding Apps2SD.
On this page, it gives instructions on how to enable and disable it.
When I go to the option menu, it doesn't allow me to select it. It's faded out. What do I do to go about enabling this?
i thought cm's instructions were enough; but thanks to the help i got here, i was able to root.

Usually that means you need to partition or if you are partitioned to switch to ext 4 on CM
DO NOT RUN THIS ON THE G2X! The partition layout is different, doing so will do bad things to your device. I will release a G2X compatible version when I am back online in a week's time!
For the past couple of days I have been working on creating a ClockworkMod recovery image for the LG Optimus 2X. I'm pleased to announce that the first full release is available!
Some points to note - READ THESE CAREFULLY!
Use at your own risk! I have successfully used the backup and restore functionality (nandroid), and am currently testing other functions.
If you manage to break your device completely, this ROM should get you back up and running.
Download
I have packaged the recovery itself and the installation system together in one download zip.
3.0.1.4 r1 DOWNLOAD (ROMraid Load Balancing) - MD5: 7145b425f95a87dc5bde29ac4eba48ff
Installation automatically on your device
NEW: If your device is rooted, my 99p 2X Recovery Boot app (mentioned below) can now flash the recovery image for you the first time you run the app and on subsequent version updates!
Installation on Windows, Linux and OSX
- Download the zip file above and extract to a directory
- Connect your device and ensure 'USB debugging' is enabled
- WINDOWS - double click 'install-clockworkmod-windows.bat'
- MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-clockworkmod-mac.sh' followed by './install-clockworkmod-mac.sh'
- LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-clockworkmod-linux.sh' followed by './install-clockworkmod-linux.sh'
If you wish, you can also manually install the recovery by pushing the clockworkmod.img file to /data/local/ with adb and running 'dd if=/data/local/clockworkmod.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7' from a root shell.
Launching Recovery
To boot ClockworkMod Recovery, either:
Turn the device on while holding the volume down and power buttons until recovery loads
Download the OPTIONAL 99p 'LG 2X Recovery Boot' application from the Android Market (NOTE: This app is completely optional - if you do use it, thanks for your support!)
Source / Updates
I'll be posting the device profile and source changes on my GitHub shortly, and will issue fixes / new Betas as required.
Enjoy!

Two questions.
1) This method overwrites the standard recovery on the phone, correct?
2) To revert back to standard recovery, one have to flash the whole phone using nvflash, correct?

Okay. Thanks.
Im just curious, who supplies the NVFlash archive? And is the standard recovery image supplied by Nvidia or LG? Since it is part of the NVFlash archive.
Found out why i can get no root access... i got no adb access at all.
First time pluggin in phone after install of LG drivers, it says that the adb interface thingy can't install.
This also causes that i can't install CWM.
Any suggestions as to what is wrong?
Thank you, Paul!
Successful nandroid backup I will try to make a custom rom.
Paul its was a good idea to let clockworkmod make backup to external sd because its not possible to mount usb storage in recovery menu yet.

I decided to write this quick guide to condense what took me the better part of 8 f**king hours trying to do. The time it took was probably due to a mostly faulty USB port on the phone, AND on my laptop too...
Long story short, I was given this phone after my S5 decided to go for a swim with me. My first Android phone was the Galaxy S+. I then upgraded to the S2 -> S3 -> S4 and thus S5.
I had never used the regular 'S' (non '+' version) before today and sadly there is little support for it. So I thought I would add my first and last guide here on how to get this phone all the way from Android 2.3.6 (latest stock official) right up to 5.1.1. I owe a lot to XDA, so this is my way of helping out. This phone unfortunately is OLD, and thus requires outdated methods of flashing/upgrading that I was not very familiar with. Hopefully this will help you save a lot of time.
It is important to note that not all of these steps will be mandatory! I will try and mark the ones that I don't think are mandatory (and that you may skip). However I will just outline the full steps I took.
First you will need this package that I am going to upload here. Feel free to make as many mirrors as you want.
My apologies in advance if I do not have permission to upload copies/etc. of these files but AFAIK I am allowed to upload these files.

What we are trying to accomplish!
If needed, downgrade/upgrade your i9000 to Android 2.3.6. This is the latest stock Android version released for this phone. Doing this should fix any corruption issues or any other BS that you may have done to your phone. This still may not be necessary at all.
Install the Semaphore_2.7.4 Kernel & Recovery package (bundled). This is the best Kernel for your i9000 and it also gives you the most stable working Custom Recovery I have found. (I have tested TWRM, CWM & PhilZ and found this bundled CWM to be by far the best (and in this case the only thing that worked for me)).
Flash whatever new Custom Rom that you want. You can flash any firmware even up to 5.1.1 currently.
So let's do this quick, so you don't have to waste 8 hours like I did yes? Hopefully you don't have malfunctioning USB ports like I did too.
Step 1. - Download the file package above.
Step 2. Uninstall Kies if you have it installed. Then reboot your computer. (Step may not be mandatory but I did it)
Step 3. Run the "USB_Drivers_1.5.49.0.exe" installer from the "THESE FIRST" folder. Then reboot your computer again.
Step 4. Put your i9000 into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power) and plug it into your PC. It should be detected, and Windows driver install popup will show up etc.
Step 5. Run "Odin3 v1.83.exe" and hopefully you'll see it connected in COM "X". If not, then try and sort out the driver/cable/port issue. Try another USB port, and don't use any HUBs etc.
Step 6. Extract the "I9000XXJVU CFROOT.rar" and put the contents somewhere. Put the largest file in PDA, the CSC file in CSC and the remaining file in MODEM/PHONE (this is all in ODIN (also we are ignoring the CFROOT file))
Step 7. Hit start and wait. (You may need to add the s1_odin_20100512.pit file in the folder to the PIT section in ODIN if it won't flash. (I didn't have to)
Step 8. Wait for your phone to reboot into old Android 2.3.6. Then shut it down, because we are going to upgrade it AGAIN now that it is fully stock.
Step 9. Boot into download mode AGAIN and connect to your PC.
Step 10. Open up an ELEVATED CMD Prompt (With Admin Privledges) and navigate to the "THESE SECOND\Heimdall Suite + Kernel" folder. Using the command "cd <yourfilepath/Heimdall Suite + Kernel folder>"
Step 11. Run the command: " heimdall flash --kernel zImage --no-reboot " (without quotes). You may have to make the 'kernel' part of the command in CAPITAL letters, for it to work.
Step 12. If (AND ONLY IF) you get an error -12 or something. Then go into the folder "Driver Change For Kernel Flash" and run the "zadig.exe". Choose Options > List all Devices > Serial/etc/device and try one of the 3 drivers and click Replace/Reinstall etc. Then try step 11 again. Keep trying with each driver until it works. <--- THIS STEP ONLY IF STEP 11 DIDN'T WORK THE FIRST TIME!!!!
13. Reboot your phone into RECOVERY MODE! (Volume Up + Home + Power).
14. Wipe Data (Factory Reset). Clear Dalvik etc. etc.
15. Flash whatever .zip of the new ROM you want baby!!
Edit: Here is a second set of instructions that may help with the Heimdall part!
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
Note, that I flashed the unofficial OMNI from here (it's Android 5.1.1. and it works beautifully) My thanks to humberos + others:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s-i9000/i9000-development/rom-t3054101
It asked me to reboot recovery many times and complained with a bunch of errors but basically you just ignore all of those errors and keep rebooting and flashing the same .zip again. Eventually you won't see those errors any more at all and the rom will flash flawlessly with the included Aroma/TWRP etc. and voilá! You will have upgraded your old i9000 from 'x' firmware to 'y' firmware (hopefully better). Congratulations on breathing life back into your i9000! Galaxy S! Now you can give it to your mum or something!
Please just hit 'THANKS' if this helped you. I don't need any more, or any less.Edit: Added some pictures for proof that this works.
The attached CMD picture is what it should look like when the command executed properly and the Semaphore_2.7.4 Kernel was installed. Also it shows the error I got in Step 12 before I used the driver program to change the libusbx drivers so I could flash it properly.
The other pictures show how the installation process looks for Unofficial OMNI ROM, including the Boot logo, and the top image is just a readout of the 'About Device' pane.
========= QUICK FAQ: =========
Q Can I PM you for help?
A: I'd rather not. I don't use the forums much. Post here and maybe I or others can help you out. Also check the README.txt files in the package you downloaded.
Q: The files aren't available any more, can you reupload them?
A: Maybe, ask in the thread. Everything in the package was downloaded from other places: Old 2.3.6 Firmware from Sammobile + Kernel from the above Wiki link etc. Heimdall from Google.
Q: Does this work for the i9001 (Galaxy S+)?
A: Probably not. Try it yourself at your own risk.
Q: Does Wi-Fi/Something else work?
A: Wi-Fi does, see the top picture. As for other stuff, I don't know, try it for yourself and see!
Q: I prefer using TWRP Recovery for this phone an-
A: I don't care. I tried 4 other custom recoveries and none of them worked except the one I listed.

Halo all
Most owners here have rooted (kingroot) their system and attempted to update the rom, forgetting OTA conflicts. Although the consequences are usually resolvable, not in the case of mediatek and our model.
To start, I highly recommend using Ubuntu linux off a flash drive running live, else I suggest using windows 7 (perhaps in a vm too) although it didn't work with me (mediatek driver issues) (users reported that it works fine with windows 10, set wifi connection as metered to prevent automatic driver updates)
Optional: Create a live Ubuntu (download the 64bit version!) stick using this tut: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows
After booting into Ubuntu, remove modemmanager by typing in terminal : sudo apt-get remove modemmanager
Hit y and continue...
Download folder list:
1)spflashtool from http://spflashtool.com/, "Linux 64-bit"
2)CWM(626g+)
3)Scatter file(626g+)
4)Stock cwm backup ~800MB

Google drive mirror folder: https://drive.google.com/folder/d/0BwgllNFqdXuQMXR0a29mZms2VDA/edit
Skip 1,2,3 for Windows users
Flash time:
1)Extract the zip in Home directory, open Terminal again then cd SP_Flash_Tool_exe_Linux_v5.1520.00.100 (tip: type cd SP then hit tab to autocomplete)
2)then: chmod +x *
3) last: sudo ./flash_tool.sh
4)Choose the scatter file and recovery img downloaded like in the pic (checkboxes too):

}
5)Make sure your phone is off, click Download then plug in the phone using a USB2 port...
6)CWM installed!
7)extract the stock cwm backup zip to sdcard in this following order of directory: clockworkmod/backup/(the extracted contents here)
8)Reboot the phone by hold Vol Down + Power then leave it, due to the issue it will enter cwm automatically
9)navigate to "backup and restore" and choose restore then the folder your copied (in date format)
10)reboot, dun! :highfive:
Big Credits and thanks to: https://www.facebook.com/htc626gplusdev/info/?tab=page_info , for custom recovery...
Hit thanks if this has helped you, would motivate me to update the links lol
Hi, this is to install the cwm recovery... Right? But how do i flash my phone with an HTC stock rom? Because i don't have a back up to restore my phone. And htc already has a default recovery. Can't i use that to flash my phone with the stock rom file? Maybe via adb sideload?

I think understanding the title of the thread would answer your question, no this is not "install the cwm recovery" it is required in order to restore stock ROM unofficially, there is no way around it to date, if you are afraid/don't trust the stock ROM backup I provided, then wait for HTC to release RUU and simply use fastboot to update (? mediatek)...
Follow the steps, I've provided everything, you don’t need a backup, download my backup etc...

sorry but the other two links are broken as well. i have the STOCK CWM.zip now
Hello again, I found the scatter file. But when you download and plug the USB, I get the following message.
PTM changed for ROM; it must be downloaded
Any help please? I read that this was solved by selecting all + download format rather than just download, but I have some fear in doing this.
Cheers

It 'should' work on windows, though at certain settings Windows updates the driver with incorrect version. I recomended Linux to avoid problems with drivers
