Anyway to extract data from PC Companion backup file? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I ran a full backup of my Z3C on 5.1 with PC Companion, this file is on my computer.
Next I "downgraded" to Android 4.4.4 as I was having some intermittent battery issues and I missed the functionality of have Xposed and root.
Now when I try to restore the backed up file PC Companion tells me it cannot restore to a different firmware version.
Some of the files (contacts, plain text notes, etc) should not be a problem.
I also copied the entire 16GB phone memory separately.
Is there any way to restore my essential files (contacts, notes and calender) please?
Thankyou

Restoring dbk backup made in PC Companion 2.1

I made a backup of my phone's content using the backup function that PC Companion offers during the restore process. Now, I have a 900MB+ .dbk file that I can't use in any way other than open it as an archive. I can't find the option to restore that content anywhere in PC Companion (latest version 2.10.136).
The attachment shows all the options I have: Support Zone, Xperia Transfer, Media Go, Contacts, Calendar, and File Manager. What am I missing? Does the phone need to be connected to the computer in a special way?

[Q] Unable to restore everything from PC Companion backup

Having issues with using PC Companion 2.1 and backed phone data before preforming a full OS reload.
Phone restored back to OS original but when I try to run a restore, I can't view or see anything from the backup file.
File is a .dbk and I can use PC Companion to view the contents, but where's my SMS text messages stored??
I did select everything for backup so should be present somewhere as the file is total 14.5GB
Any idea

Same here... i lost all my contacts, calendars etc....... I assumed PC Companion backup would have them backed up since all the boxes are checked... but no........ now I've paid the consequences of trusting it...

Sony...what's the point of using a backup application that doesn't work????
Anybody else have any recommendations on other applications that do work? Not going to use PC Companion for any backups from now on
Well I have something back.
Snooped around the net and located a great product called MyPhoneExplorer and installed this to see what I could find. Nothing.
But then when I preformed the restore, it managed to restore the SMS and contacts for me Not too bothered with regards the apps but the important contacts and messages are now back.
Not sure what MyPhoneExplorer did but has done something good

[Q] Gutted at "Restore"

I needed to restore my Z1 to eliminate an issue with the phone handling. To be on the safe side, I backed up with PC Companion AND with the on-board app, making sure I selected all the options. I reloaded the O/S and selected "Restore" from the on-board app. It froze while loading the BBC iPlayer at 2%. So I tried the previous two backups and they both failed at the same point. So I restored the backup from PC companion. I t looked nothing like the original backup. Very few settings had been restored, no Bluetooth, all the home page configurations were lost and the combined app folders were no more.
What is the point of the backup if everything has to be manually re-built and re-configured?
Is there a way of backing up and restoring everything including all the settings and personalizations?
You may have guessed that I am not best pleased, especially as the restore has not solved the original phone problem!!!:crying:

[Q] Z1 rooting process.

I would like to root my z1. Havent done it before using different unit of phones. So this would be the first time.
I know that theres alot of guides created for this but im getting confuse which and what to follow.
Im using a z1 c6903 kitkat version 4.4.4.
So my questions are below.
1. How to create a back up and what app to use. In case something go wrong.
2. What are the files and applications needed to complete rooting my device.
Anyone that can answer my question and have the correct instructions on how to do this will be greatly appreciated. TIA XDA.
1. How to create a back up and what app to use. In case something go wrong.
I use Titanium Backup (root only) to backup my apps. Google sync my contacts. Most my stuff is on sd card but the ones in the internal storage, I just copy and paste to my computer. Never backed up my messages but you can use PC Companion to do so.
2. What are the files and applications needed to complete rooting my device.
Use this. Probably don't even have to do a backup, it never failed on me.
Hi mythomania,
I just got this phone two weeks ago. It came with KitKat 14.4.A0.108 and I did it like this:
1. Backup: I don't want to sync my stuff with Google so I just exported my contacts from the contacts app to a file (.vcf) and my text messages with SMS Backup & Restore from the Play Store. I then connected via USB and copied these backup files plus everything else I needed to my PC.
2. Enable USB Debugging and Unknown Sources on the phone. Connect the phone to your PC, it will say it was unable to install some drivers.
3. Install ADB drivers on your PC. No need for PC Companion, you can get them directly from this Sony page.
Use Windows Device Manager to install these for the unknown device it shows you.
4. Get EasyRoot 12.1 from here.
It may not work the first time and just hang saying "Creating VM" or "Cleaning up" or something like that. If this happens, just disconnect the phone and run it again. For me, it worked on the second attempt on my Z1 and only on the third attempt on a relative's Z1 Compact.
5. If EasyRoot is successful, install SuperSU from the Play Store.
After that, you should consider installing XZDualRecovery so you can make Nandroid backups. Btw, none of this will unlock your boot loader, so it should be safe from a warranty point of view.

[Q] Cant find my titanium and nandrid backup on pc

Hi, (newbie here and would appreciate if you guys explain every step, detail)
I've recently installed titanium backup (free) and nandroid on my Xperia Z1 from play store, My phone is rooted, have unlocked bootloader. Also NDR utils from dualrecovery is installed. Now im gonna install a custom rom. Before that i want to get backups both my whole system (in case of soft bricking) and my apps+data. I did titanium backup and when i searched it from "File Manager (apk)", couldn't find it. But i was able to see that backup via "Root Explorer", it was placed in "emulated/legacy/titanium backup". Same issue with nandroid too. Then i changed the backup folder of titanium backup to "internal memory/downloads". After the backup is finished, checked the folder via Root Explorer, there was no problem. But still cant see the backup on my computer or File Manager. I want to copy my backups to pc (i have sony pc companion, google usb drivers, adb drivers installed on my pc). But cant find my backups via windows explorer (im using windows 7 ultimate).
I heard using cmd can fix this.
adb pull /sdcard/titaniumbackup c:/TitaniumBackup (the code was like that)
Although i dont know how to use cmd properly and if there is another solution that i can manually select those backup files and copy paste in my documents on pc, i'd highly prefer that one.
By the way lots of files that i can see by rootexplorer, cannot be seen from my computer. Is this normal?
Xperia Z1
4.4.4
C6903
Thanks in advance...
