Changelog:
12/7/2013: Updated zip for 4.4.1 Using cg87 98-33 and 98-27 hybrid modems . Updated script to try to prevent duplicate build.prop entries.
8/9/2013: Updated zip to remove the installation of the older outdated snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3 audio file. This is not needed with the hybrid modem.
7/26/2013:
Updated to morrislee awesome hybrid radios. Works on 4.3 and 4.2! LTE awesomeness, and still has all the newer features (power management, audio on T-Mobile, etc.) from the newer radios.
What is it?:
I have created a AIO ZIP that can be flashed on your phones recovery and will enable lte.
It flashes the awesome.33/84 hybrid (or .27/84 depending on zip) radio/modem by morrislee, fixes audio by overwriting the necessary file, and automatically updates your build.prop with the needed changes.
ALSO this zip will put 2 CM Backup scripts in /system/addon.d , now if your phone supports CM Update scripts (CM of course,Carbon as well, and im sure alot more ROMS) you will only have to flash this ZIP once, it will automatically backup/restore the needed files and make the changes to enable LTE on each ROM Update, just like it currently does for GAPPS.
.27/98 radio and .33/98 hybrid modem bundles available for download above. Recommended for KitKat users.
.27/84 and .33/84 hybrid modems are recommended for jellybean users . Also available at above link
Manually: (Depending on ROM)
You might have to manually enable LTE either in Settings-->Wireless &Networks More.. --> Mobile networks --> Change network mode to "LTE /GSM/WCDMA" (CM10 automatically did this for me)
If that's not an option and LTE isn't enabled, dial *#*#4636#*#* and Tap WCDMA from under "Set preferred network type". Select "LTE/GSM auto".
Depending on ROM you will either have to select or input LTE APN under Settings--> Wireless &Networks More.. --> Access Point --> (TMobile LTE APN is fast.t-mobile.com , most roms have this included)
FAQ:
Q. What modem should I use .27/84 hybrid or .33/84 hybrid
A. Try them both, see which one you like better. Test speed, battery life and reception with both. Results are different for everyone.
Q. Does this work with AT&T, Vodafone, Rogers etc
A. Flashing this ZIP will enable Band 4 LTE on your nexus 4, T-Mobile uses this in the USA. Check for Band 4 carriers here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
Credits to: (make sure to send thanks to all involved!)
XDA user cg87 for 98-33 and 98-27 hybrid modems

Will this work if I am on stock 4.2.2?
Do i just need to root my phone and install this?

Yes it will work on stock 4.2.2, however you will need to unlock bootloader, and flash a custom recovery , which is needed to flash this.
Works flawlessly. This is just what I was looking for. .33 killed audio on paranoid android, but with this zip it fixes that.

Oh , my bad small error in update script. Going to upload fixed version now. The ZIP does work, and enable LTE fine , but CM Update scripts to keep it alive when you update ROM aren't coping over correctly.
EDIT: Links updated with new version
You should make a quick revert script to place everything the way it was before flashing this script.

Thanks for this, any chance you'd feel like adding in the gps or tether fix? Are those even still an issue anymore? I've been out of the LTE game for so long lol. But its active in my area (has been for a month, apparently)

To my knowledge there's still no fix for the network location/aGPS issue. I'm on T-mobile and found that it didn't need to do any mods to get tethering working on LTE.

Very nice, thank you both for the prompt responses! I've been using a script for the past couple days rvrrytime I flash a rom, but i gotta restore the script manager app every time. Cuts out a couple steps for me. The script does some extra build prop edits but i think it's just the various network optimizations that have been passed around.
Thanks again, gonna have to flash something for the sake of it!

You can't flash ROMS on the ATT Note 3 yet. There is safe strap that is still in Alpha testing and is not yet 100% working. It however is not a true root and eats up a large amount of internal memory where the image file of the ROM is stored. There is a thread on Safestrap and how it works. Use it at your own risk. Outside of that it is IMPOSSIBLE to flash an ATT Note 3 right now..

The issue is that even with safe strap you can't flash any ROM. The ROM first has to be tailored to work with and around safe strap since it is not truly a ROM but a bootloader bypass and works a little differently. So until developers either jump on board and tweak ROMS to work with safestrap or they wait till the bootloader is unlocked, there are no ROMS right now to flash..

I said you could not flash them reliably and have them 100% functional. There is still testing being conducted on all the ROMS claimed to work and no one has confirmed 100% functionality with all apps and hardware. So they are still not certified reliable like a real flash would be..
If you have tested the three you have used 100% on both hardware and apps then you need to get in there and say so because they are looking for 100% proof of function confirmation..
Not going to argue semantics with you.
I will say that I have flashed to rom slots 1 thru 4 and the stock slot and restored backups to them all with no issues. And am currently running the ported xnote7 with no issues at all. So yes, roms can be installed to AT&T Note3 phones.

Have you been actively participating in the development of this phone? I've been doing this for years and I'll be honest. 99% of custom rooms do not run 100% perfect or functional. That being said, instead of telling everyone we can't flash ROMS. Why not tell them what we do have and let him decide if it is what He is looking for.

HAHA nice!!! yeah i put the xnote rom on last night so far no issues at all runs smooth and i love it!! just wish everything didnt take up a bunch of the internal memory but hey its a sweet rom so whatever
I am just going by all the "this does not work, or this fails, or my apps no longer load" and the list goes one of post in the SS thread right now.. For some it maybe stable but it seems the majority is having more problems then they had with stock.
Can someone orovide the link to xnote7 that can be fkashed to att note 3 using safe strap please? Stock ZIP Compiled From Base TAR Image
Hey! This is the base that I created from the TAR filed that I used to compile my Extreme Debloat ROM.
This base will be available to anyone who wants to use it in their own ROM. Just be sure to give credits as to where you got the base!
NCE-DeOdex-Stock
1: DeOdexed (Anyone using it to make a ROM should know how to make an Odex version.)
2: Rooted
3: Busybox
4: ZipAligned
5: Completely stock out of the box (This means Knox applicationes, OTA updater etc. are all still in the ROM.)
Instructions:
I compiled the zip from the tar file using a few tools and Archikitchen. I am not sure if the updater script/binary that is in the zip will work so I attached the META-INF and boot.img as a zip below as well. DO NOT flash the META-INF & boot.img zip as it will not work.
1: Download ROM.
2: Download META-INF and boot.img zip.
3: If you are going to be flashing the ROM, you also need to download the supersu.zip because the root apk built in the ROM is outdated.
4: Open ROM zip, and open META-INF & boot.img zip and have them side by side.
5: Drag and drop the META-INF folder and the boot.img file from that zip to the ROM zip and replace it.
I am sorry for not including the META folder in the ROM zip. I forgot to do it before I uploaded it and it takes forever to upload 1.4gb on my slow laptop/internet so I will update it when I get time. Then again, if you do not know how to replace the META folder, then maybe you should not be using this base to make ROMS.
Download:
NCE DeOdex Base - ~1.4gb
MD5: 50d654feedfce62efffa687537571612
META-INF & Boot.Img - ~9.1mb
MD5: 1c04d02ff7cf09187c6ac4bbe03828c2

Q&A for [MOD] Unrestricted Tethering NJ7
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [MOD] Unrestricted Tethering NJ7. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
not working
Stock rooted, nj7
I have unlimited data, 3gb cap tethering. I get upsell page. But I already used my 3gb before trying this mod. Maybe I'll have to wait for the new billing cycle to confirm this to work but it should've worked if it uses my unlimited data vs tether data? On s4 I had that issue, the new cycle started and what do you know (it work).
Running FireKatv2, also tried adding ,dun to apn and adding a line to some database to tether_dun_required. The wifi tether router works fine, and I have Xposed. I also have Wanam Xposed with "Disable tether provisioning" checked (I've tried it both ways). Doesn't work

uninstall/disable xposed and wanam. best to restore a backup or clean install, flash the mod again and dont touch anything. I have set everything up already! all you have to do is turn tethering on, if you have connectivity issues, click the fast.t-mobile.com APN again (which is default APN anyway) it will reset and then reconnect a device.
Tested working on DynamicKAT 1.2
Sorry, new around here and got redirected here. Will try to get out of probation quickly!
Mod works just as it should on DynamicKAT v1.2.
Also, I believe the "Legal Tethering" note is meant to highlight the fact that Tethering is in fact seen as "Legal" by the Network. We should really start worrying when if it starts saying "Illegal Tethering".
Thanks for the reply. I just moved to hyperdrive and everything works perfect! Thanks again

Go ahead and grab and install the stock deodexed rom...or hold out till someone makes an odex tethering mod
Did you use foxfi 3rd party with firekat?
Will this work on the Sprint variant?
I followed this guide step-by-step. My tethering data is still being used.
I have a Galaxy Note 4 and am using the stock firmware. I have rooted.
Previously, I had tried using xposed and xtether. I disabled xtether then uninstalled xposed but to no avail.
I have a 5GB tethering cap and now it's at 5/5GB. What am I doing wrong?
I've read in this thread that it's best to start with clean install -- how do I do this? Perform the default system wipe in TWRP?
Does it matter if I'm not on nJ7 firmware I am on the firmware that came on the note 4 the reason I ask is because this tethering mod does not work on my note 4.what is it that I'm doing wrong? Thanks In advance!!!

Just to post an update -
This wasn't working for me before and it still isn't. I tried to start from a "clean installation" like OP suggested and here's how I did it:
Re-flashed with stock firmware
Re-installed root
Re-installed TWRP
Installed this mod
I've maxed out my tether usage and I still get a nice little T-Mobile splash screen when I try to go somewhere online with my laptop (when connected to the hotspot).
What gives?
Edit
---------------
So after reading through every page of the thread it seems that I need a "deodex rom". As I am completely new to all things Android I am currently educating myself on this. I searched OP and didn't see this mentioned although OP did say he needed to add it lol.
Could anyone link me to a recent/relevant guide on how to get a deodex stock rom for my T-Mobile Note 4? I've found a couple but they seem to assume some prerequisite knowledge and I'm not sure how old they are. Just want to make sure I do this right.
Tethering with Sausage Jimmy Dean
Well, since I installed a Deoxed Rom on my Note 4 (T-Mobile) I happily proceeded to tether away, and started dowloading stuff on my ps4 (thinking that its set) Did not know T-Mobile Giives you 3gb to share even if you dont have tethering and I reached my cap... i Flashed and I am Wondering if its to late to have normal speeds again. I have unlimited data, just wanted to know if you reach the cap on sharing will it stay like that until my new cycle starts even if I have unlimited mobile plan.
Is it possible to get wifi calling working on a rooted non-stock ROM and Kernel?
Thanks,
I'm running Rapture ROM 2.1 (rooted) using UniBase kernel BOG8 and wifi calling works fine.
If you install this ROM, you need to make sure you install this kernel or you won't have any in-call audio.
Or were you meaning something like CyanogenMod? Because if that's what you mean, the answer is no.

No, I'm running XtreStoLite Deo-Mod Edition 2 with the same kernel you are. I made the CSC edits, and the setting now appears in my phone menu....but I don't know how to test to see if it's working?
Do you see it under Connections > More Connection Settings > WiFi Calling? You toggle it there.
Edit: Turn it in and set it to WiFi Preferred

I don't see it under "more connections", but I do see it under phone connections....See my screen shots:
It must be ROM-specific I guess. See mine.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of... Is there an app in your system associated with it?

Not that I can see, no.

Is the rom you're running T-Mobile firmware based or international? There should be an apk associated but it's deeper than that, I think it's a framework thing. International just won't work. People have been trying as long as I can remember

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of...thought I'd give it the 'ol college try. I'm on an international ROM.

It's built into the framework from what I understand. There was at least one dev that was looking at trying to make wifi calling work outside of TW-based ROMs, but the thread was closed.
