Screen Protector and (Cheap) Case, or More Expensive Case?

So, my Note 2 is coming in the mail tomorrow (yay! though I kinda accidentally paid too much for it, especially with new rumors of Note 3... oh well). Anyway, I'm trying to stay on a budget for a case--if I bother to get one at all--and I've narrowed it down to:
-Seidio CSK3SSGT2K-BK ACTIVE Case with Metal Kickstand - $21.48
OR
-iSmooth screen protector - 3 pack - $9.97 AND
-Diztronic High Gloss Clear Flexible TPU Case - $9.99
--Total: $19.96
Want to keep it to around $20 total, so I can use the $5 remainder ($25 free shipping) to add on a Nexus 10 case for a gift: MoKo Slim-Fit Multi-angle Folio Cover Case for Google Nexus 10 - $5.99
So, question for all you case-using Note 2 owners:
1) Which do you think is more necessary: a hard-backed plastic/TPU case, or a screen protector?
2) What do you think of these options; do you have any others?

1. For me, both the case and the screen protector is necessary specially when you use your phone on outdoors. As the saying goes, its better to be safe than sorry.
2. I'm still waiting for my UAG case and my spigen screen protector, Currently I'm only using a cheap TPU case and a screen protector. You might want to check out the other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931209&page=104 and you might get some idea on other cases.

I got two cases free from Best Buy with my Note 2 purchase.
(It was for the $50 reserve offer, but since that was only for upgrades, I got free accessories).
One was the Seidio brand (in blue) which has a nice kickstand in the back, and the other Samsung flip cover.
I am still planning on installing a screen protector (iSmooth) on my Note 2.

Okay, went for the screen protector & case option. I was concerned about the stylus potentially scratching the phone; now I guess I don't need to worry about that. Thanks for the help!

Help with Protection..

OK, anyone willing to help, please do, others please ignore.
I'm looking for a good case for the Note 4 I am waiting for to arrive.
As of now I have a Note 2 using the UAG hard case.. What are some suggestions y'all have for a case for the Note 4?? I prefer a "slimmer" design, but one with good protection. OtterBox is just too big and bulky for my taste.. I would also like to know what y'all think about screen protection.. We all know the DIY screen protection film, but what's everyone's opinion and experience with the "adhered" glass protectors, a stand alone or included with a case... Hope this makes sense.. Also hope this is in the right section, I tried "Accessories" but the forum was blank and gave me a error.

Hey Birdman. I've tried a few cases for my N4. I LOVE my current case. It's the Spigen Neo-Hybrid Metal. It's slim, while providing adequate protection and yet... looks slick as hell.

as far a screen protection? I've got the Zagg Mirror Glass. It'd a Best Buy exclusive. So far... it's slick. I'm not a fan of the standard films.

I have the speck candyshell on mine and love it. Tech 21 are also great cases as far as being very slim but great protection. Also highly recommend a tempered glass screen protector. I got mine on Amazon for like $15 and has a lifetime warranty.

I spent a whole 7.55 each off 2 cases with swivel belt clips off ebay. Anyone who pays more than $20 for a case just isnt very bright. I dont need slim or flashy, i need protection and durability. Did the same with my nexus 5, never cracked a screen. I dont use a protector. If i drop my phone, it bounces. This case is gantastic. Its a generic 3 piece hybrid with belt clip. I've got the tech 21 impactology case from the Tmobile store.
I take the phone out of it sometimes and rock naked, but it gets the job done.

Yeah, I ended up buying a Caseology and the tempered glass screen protector.. The tempered glass should do me great, working on cars day in and day out really takes a toll on the flimsy screen protectors. With everyday use it gets pretty dull quickly since I can't always wash and sanitize my hands before responding to a text, etc.. My past 2 phones I've used the UAG cases and they're great, but I'm ready for a change in look. Thought about getting one if the cases (forgot which one exactly) that the guy Flossy on YouTube reviews. It was all aluminum, gold finish, bezel and back for the phone, looked so damn nice. Where he lost me though was when he said he lost a bar or 2 of reception. Still might buy one also anyway cuz it was pimpin LOL.

Flossy is great!! I always check his reviews before I buy. Thats how I got turned onto the Spigen cases.

Bought myself one of those Ulak Armor Knox cases

So I ordered one of those knox armor cases for $14 off Amazon. They're similar looking to the Otterbox and offer similar protection. Only thing is they don't have a built in protector but that's not a big deal because I have tempered glass on mine.
Only think I really don't like is just like the Otterbox Defender, the rubber near the home key tends to work a little loose after riding around in my pocket.
The rubber around it seems a bit more dense so hopefully it last longer than the Defenders. After just a couple months my Defenders always become looser due to the rubber wearing.
It's not the best case but for $14 bucks I'll take it over a Defender though. It provides more protection than the Supcase too. Only other durable case I can think of that is more durable than this is my Poetic Revolution which I love but it's huge and doesn't work with wireless charging like this one does

This is probably the best case in amazon I've had it since I've had my phone along with the built in screen protector I use tempered glass. I got a Supcase. I like the built in screen protector on it but it is a it thin for my liking. I think the best case for being really rugged is the Poetic Revolution but it is kind of over kill but a great case. Again for max protection Supcase is like commuter case to me. The Ulak case is thick and feels more like a Defender. If Ulak case wears like the Otterbox I'll probably rip the temperd glass off and go back to Supcase or the P

To each his own but I'll go to bat for the unicorn beetle. I v dropped it plenty of times and not even the tempered glass has broken yet..... knock on wood. The buttons work great and it has a belt clip. Can't beat that in my book

I've got the ulak, and I really like it. I was going to get the supcase, but I REALLY don't like built in screen protectors.

I like the built in one on the supcase. It isn't like Otterbox. It fits flush so dirt doesn't get under it. However the Supcase is stiff and too thin for my liking for drop protection. The Ulak seems good. Even if it only last 6 months it was only 14 bucks. My otterBox after 3 months was wearing a lot so I bought other cases. Waste of 50 bucks. My next Note phone I'll order some Amazon cases a few days before I buy the phone so I'm not suckered into buying otterboxes.

I have and use the supcase daily. I love the fit and finish you can definitely tell it's a well made piece. I did also grab one of the Knox armor cases too for around 3 dollars with a coupon code from amazon. Side by side it's easy to tell the supcase built much better. As far as drop protection goes between the two I have no idea, but I have dropped my note a couple times so far. I have yet to actually put the ulak case on, never found a reason to take the supcase off

The Supcase the phone feels kind of thin to grip. Maybe it's because I'm so used to using Otterbox Defender and Poetic Revolution cases. I always thought the Note 5 was a bit thin to grip.
Another good case to check out is the Artech 21. I like the Supcase but it just seems a bit too thin especially with all the glass on this phone. That is why I went with the Ulak. So far after a week it's still holding up well compared to the Defender I have.

It's out of stock on Amazon but is available on eBay or UAG website for the same price. I'm not a fan of grimy clear cases get so I prefer the UAG. I also think it provides better protection from the looks of it

I normally love UAG my favorite brand but the scout looks like ass :-( so boring.

I have a Nimbus9 Phantom 2. Priced in the $35 range, but I think that it makes the phone stand out..

Otterbox Symmetry is absolutely useless. It actually increases your chances of breaking your phone. It's literally so slippery that if placed on your desk it will just slide right off with even a 2 degree slope, i.e don't put it on a book or magazine. Especially so if it's plugged into the pc, the charging cable will just drag it right to the floor. I had to cover the back of mine with skateboard grip tape off amazon, (comes in a roll) just to make it useable. I don't' know how they can go from the defender to the symmetry, it's also like an F.U for not buying the defender, but they don't' even make a defender for this one.
I just got the dual screen , but it really kills your battery so for out of the house use I think I'm going back to a case .

for 24 bucks. I just ordered one, It looks good. Silicone inside, hard aluminum outside, it actually screws together so none of that issue we'd all have with the otterbox where it stretched overtime and wouldn't snap in place like it used to. Plus it comes with a tempered glass screen protector and you don't' have to bother removing's some cheap plastic junk screen protector from the e case like you do with other ones of this build .
Oh plus the latter comes in 4 colors as well.

Accessories Cases - Which One?

I normally buy an OEM case for my phones but so far I am not over taken by the offerings on the Google store.
So do you normally get a case for your phone? If so which one?
Or do you not bother with a case and just go "vanilla"?
Let me know your thoughts and if you can lets see some pictures of your case if you have one.

I usually just get the google case. Don't go "vanilla". If you drop it you'll probably have to pay more than triple of what the case just cost from the beginning.

I normally go for a OEM case (Google one) but they do not seem to have anything that appeals to me this year.
I will not being vanilla though and will get case eventually.

Spigen Liquid Air now and probably will buy a Matte Black dbrand Grip later. I bought a black leather skin with my Pixel 6 Grip case, but the skin it's so thin and isn't very durable. The Grip case itself is great.

I went with the Caseology Athlex. I am a bit hard on phones, so I will probably get a UAG case as well if/when they come out with some more selection than the Scout. They always have my favorite cases as they offer good protection with a slim profile.

How much thickness does the case and screen add on?

Quite a bit. That model is not petite.

Are there any cases with inbuilt stands besides Spigen and the cheap aliexpress options?
I'm unfamiliar with the 'Poetic Revolution' cases - are they as durable as Spigen?

I'm getting a Gadgetsdhieldz screen guard and Spigen Thin Fit Case! Hope this will be a good fit...

Caseology Parallax looks and feels great on this device, if anyone is curious about one. I've always been a Spigen user, but the grip and colorway on this case have won me over.

Ordered the Spigen rugged case and glass protector off Amazon.

I got a Spigen Thin Fit Case in black for now.
The case may well change in the coming weeks.
