Hello,
I'm running Cm 12 (based on this xda thread. I did my original install off of this RootJunky tutorial.
I'm not getting access to the external sd card. I have wiped and re-flashed about 6 times in TWRP, each time pulling my flash files off of the external sd card, I have tested the card in a pc, works fine. But it's not showing when I run the tablet or when I connect the tablet to my laptop with a usb cable.
Any ideas or suggestions on how I can fix this?
Thank in advance for any help!

Cm12 currently only works with certain file systems, do you know which file system the SD card is formatted to?

I just finally solved it, and I hope this thread can help some other people -- thanks for the response, by the way! I have been reading some of your other posts this week, and you are the man!
So, what I ended up doing was backing up my sd card on a pc, then reformatting it. It still didn't work. But CM 12 was giving me a message every time I took the sd card out of the slot, telling to insert a card. I was exploring permission in SuperSu and CM 12, and eventually I ended up activating the "Delete Sd Card" option under storage. I didn't think it was available to me, because it was grayed out and didn't show my card anywhere. It was. I deleted it, and it must have reformatted it with a compatible file system. It works. It's letting move apps to sd card, sd card shows up in file managers, other apps and when I connect to pc.
Now, the only issue I really want to resolve is getting Google Play Games to work.

Title says it all. I unmounted as I should have before turning off USB storage, but when I unplugged the USB cable, it said I have a damaged SD card and that I may need to format it. I hit the OK to format and nothing happened. I tried rebooting and nothing happens. I'm rooted with CM 3.9.7 mod, A2SD, etc. I've tried flashing the recovery, etc, but it can't mount the SD card and so fails. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

do you have a card reader for your computer?
No card reader for my computer.
do you have another phone or device that you can put your sd card in and connect to your computer
yeah, a Dash.
I've run into this problem before. Rebooting the phone. without selecting the format usually fixes it. I think it just happens when the SD card fails to unmount properly.
If you have an update.zip on the SD Card..try applying it through the recovery menu. If it says it fails to mount the SD Card over and over, then your SD Card probably is actually damaged.

Is there any way to fix the card? Like I said, I've got an HTC Dash running WM6 that I can put the card into and connect to the computer. Is there anything to be done?
try to format it from the dash through computer, but im not familiar with dashes
I think I may have figured it out a bit.
The Dash wouldn't recognize the 8GB SDHC, but I fortunately still had the original 1GB, which it did recognize. I was able to transfer the CM 3.9.7 onto it and boot in recovery mode and reload the update.zip file. I'm currently booting up and once that's done, I'll do what is necessary to put my 8GB card in, format it and then try to make everything work again. Suggestions?
you want to use the 3.97? that rom is still experimental. maybe you should use the 3.6.8.1 rom

That's about it...
I usually keep a back up of everything just in case.
Also, for your usb card reader problems...

My plan succeeded! I'm now waiting for the Market to let me download my apps again. It let me download a couple, but stopped for some reason. It's happened before, so I'm not too worried. If I should be, let me know. Thanks.
ok sounds good
For some reason, Google Talk was disabled. I enabled it and voila, everything's all good!
What's up guys. Anyone else have an issue with their Nexus not recognizing your SD card after the Froyo update? I have a 16 GB class 2 Sandisk. The phone recognizes the phone in recovery without any issue. I tried formatting the card and also reflashing Froyo, but I still get nothing. Any ideas? Thanks!
Same issue here. Stock card that came with the N1, have never had an issue...now it keeps telling me it's safe to remove, and when I go into SD settings and mount, it just goes back to that notification over and over. Probably about to restore to cyan 5.0.6 for now...
I took my card out. Using my SD card reader, backed up files, formatted, SD card in phone, connect to computer. And it worked. Then loaded my files back on. Btw I also have a 16gb card

Yeah...try just popping the card out the phone and then reinsert.
It seems like i'm still having this issue. I decided to stick with CM 5.8 until they officially released 2.2. It doesn't matter if I install the official update or a rom based on 2.2, my phone still refuses to recognize my card. I've searched all over the net and i've yet to run into anyone else with this issue. It sees the card fine in recovery and when using CM 5.8. I've wiped the phone, formatted the card and i'm not sure what else to try.
Same problem here, also a 16Gb SDCard
works 100% in 2.1, but refuses to work with Froyo.
Any workarounds, or is this a bug in the current Froyo builds?
Suggestion is to copy the contents of your to your computer, then format, and try again

I think I have this too - with a workaround
hi,
On my Nexus one I am running Froyo OTA.
I noticed that when I turn on my phone the SD card is not fully recognized. All the icons of my apps appear blank for all SD moved apps. I tried switching cards and reformatting and everything but it always happens.
I found one workaround which usually works:
1. When turned on and apps not recognized, run ASTRO files manager
2. Even though card is not fully recognized you can access all files on the SD from ASTRO. Now run the SD Card Tool from the menu.
3. After the scan is finished showing usage of directories on SD, I close the ASTRO which twice hitting the back key and when I return to the home screen all apps are re-enabled and icons are updated. From here on everything works.
Hope this is the same issue you are having and this helps you to solve it.
Perhaps Gingerbread will make this obsolete

What you're describing is a function of Froyo's Apps2SD together with either custom launcher (LauncherPro, ADW, and such), or long loading time after reset. It's a known and much discussed issue, help files for both custom launchers suggest force-closing the launcher a couple of minutes after reset.
It doesn't have anything to do with SD card not being recognized.
There is no such thing as "partially recognized" SD card, it's either working or it doesn't, and when it doesn't - no files can be seen on it at all.
So just today I got my phone working with CM 9 and everything works but the phone wont accept my SD card data.
If I go to the gallery it says I need a SD card, so it didn't recognize it but if I go to the file manager I can open my SD card and see all my files it I still can't access them. For example a song I had on the SD card I can see it but it won't let me listen to it.
I'm sure that the SD card isn't broken or anything it works fine on other phones and it did work on this phone until I installed CM 9.
Does anyone know of a solution?

There's two ways to do it first I suggest you back up the files to your PC then place you sdcard back in your phone go to storage and format the external card that way or once you've backed up the sdcard whilst it is still connected to our PC right click on our sdcard and format should list of options

It may help... Just try once.. nothing can happen to you device..
In settings => storage, there is the Transfer Data to SD card option. However I have tried multiple times to use it and it always fails to transfer the data. I have tried restarting the phone and trying it immediately after and I have also removed and reinserted the microSD. The weird thing is that the option used to work back in November. Any ideas?
Taking photos and videos (including 4k) and saving them directly to the sd card works, and transfer of files via file manager also works so I don't know what the problem could be.
I am on latest stock without root and locked BL.
Thanks

The same name can not exist on the SD card or the procedure fails. For example, if there is DSC0001.jpg on internal, but already there is DSC0001.jpg on the SD, then the transfer fails
Thanks for the suggestion. I have just removed all photos from my SD card and tried again but I still get the error. I even deleted the whole DCIM folder and it still didn't work.

Probably the SD card is not liked by the phone? I've tried this option for photos and videos and it worked for me. I have a Sandisk Class 10 UHS-I (45MB/s) 32 GB microSD.
Other than that, you can use a file manager or a computer to move files to SD if the transfer option refuses to work.
I've got the exact same card and capacity! The option used to work before with this card so I don't know what could be wrong now.
Try format the sd card on the phone. I had a similar issue when it would save video/picture to the sd but wouldn't allow me to view it "wrong url" or something. Again the sd worked fine on previous devices. Formatting it sorted the issue

Yes, I also formatted the card in the phone, not on a computer.
I've formatted the card and it worked :highfive: Thanks guys!
There is no physical switch. I've tried many application software in windows and linux but yet still not working. I think the last time I can modify the mircro sd card content is where I make deletion and copying on the phone mode. After I formatted the phone to, the micro sd card is no longer content-editable. I've tried format but not working. Before I format the phone, its OS is lolipop and I upgraded to nougat. Lost the ability to copy file after upgrading. Downgrading back still not working

What phone are you using, what's the model?
Were you rooted on Lollipop?
If so did you reroot after upgrading to Nougat?
Are you on a custom ROM or have a custom recovery?
What's the file system currently on the MicroSD card?
What file manager application are you using that is not allowing you to copy/edit files on the Micro SD card?
Are sure nothing can write to the Micro SD card, have you tried loading a Terminal app to get things command line, or another file manager application?
Last thing I can think of, is can you take the Micro SD card out and put it into a computer and see if it will format?
Could be randomly the SD card just died when you were upgrading? Usually when my cards go, it's around when I'm doing an OS load... For whatever reason. I've killed 3 Micro SD cards in the last 7 years.

I use samsung galaxy y s5360. I did rooted my device by upgrading to lolipop. I delete all partition when I downgrading back to lolipop from nougat. I think the system is in the phone itself. Any file manager I try they say success but after I double checked the files gone, I'm on custom ROM. I have taken the micro sd out and format it in windows env or linux env with higher permission. If the microsd card when upgrading then there's nothing I can do?

Do you have a custom recovery like TWRP? Are you able to boot into the custom recovery and use the file manager in there to see if it can read and write. That's outside of the OS and if it can write to the Micro SD then that means the phone is good hardware wise. If not, try formating inside of the recovery then try file manager. Again o ly if you have a custom recovery will this work.
If you're able to write to the Micro SD card in recovery, then maybe the issue is with the custom ROM? Have you tried going back to the factory firmware and see if the SD card works? That's probably where I would go to start first, since downgrading you're still having problems.
If you've pulled it out and put it in a computer, you can format and write files to it... That's a good sign that it can be written to, at least it means the Micro SD card is function.

Sorry I've tried tested on Clockworkmode recovery v5.0.2.8 but still not working. It return success but still have the previous content. I'm not sure whether this means the micro sd card is encrypted . I've tested in on PC but not work at all.

My apologies I thought it was successful on the PC.
If you try it in a computer and you can not do anything to the cars, then more than likely there is something wrong with the card. At this point I would try another Micro SD.
If it was encrypted you would not be able to see any files on it in recovery. Plus if you are in your recovery (Clockworkmode) and not able to format/partition the Micro SD in there, problems.
Because with the encryption the phones do, you can still delete partitions and repartition and format the Micro SD. Would lose all of your files of course, but would make the card usable again. Trust me I've done that a few times, encrypted then the phone would crash... And the card was locked until repartitioned and formated.

Sounds like it from everything you tried. Wish I had better news. But I have found when you can not repartition the card, especially on a PC, it's done for. Whatever the reason. That's why I I ly deal with Samsung or Kingston branded cards. Those are the ones I've had the longest and haven't failed, being used on multiple devices over the years.
