Root on 5.1.1 & Yahoo push? - Galaxy S6 Active

Hey guys, new to the forums as well as android as a whole. I've had the S6 active for about two months now and love it, coming from an iphone 5s. I have two questions. One, is there a root out for the S6 active on 5.1.1? Also, is there a way to get the stock email app to push my yahoo mail rather than fetch every 15 minutes? Thank you!

Why not just use the Yahoo mail app?

I prefer the stock app, i tried the yahoo app. The yahoo app is just more convenient than using the internet to access it. Do you happen to know if the S6 root will work the same on the active?

I wouldn't hold my breathe, this phone doesn't get sold in large numbers so people have less of a reason to find root for it. The S6 Active only got its on section like a couple of days ago so that shows how little devs seem to care about it.

I'm wondering if the root for the s6 would work, i see a seperate root for the edge, i don't know much about these phones to really be able to even point myself in the right direction. Really i'd like to remove all the bloatware from my phone, which is the only reason i want to root. And remove or hide some stock apps as well.

As far as I'm aware so far the other root methods don't work or it would definitely have been posted here already big and bold haha.
You won't be able to remove the bloat but you can disable them which stops them running and hides them.
Check out an app in the Play Store called Package Disabler Pro (Samsung).

Thank you very much!

It was mentioned to me that ping pong root may work

Any idea if yahoo push with the stock app works yet?

I had it done on my M8. They have to send you a link to the app, and you have to install it, they can't just do it without your permission.
The app will also block any access to keyboard (when they used it, I had to type everything and it specifically states that all access to the screen is currently blocked when typing anything), it basically just lets them use the device a bit, and check some settings to make sure everything is proper.
Just uninstall the app after, and done.

Yup. That'd be a massive privacy breach that would open them to quite a few lawsuits if they had it setup that they could access your device and personal data at ANYTIME.

Did she offer to do it to the new device, or to the external SD?
If it was new device, I don't see how they would do that unless they were going to use ATT Locker (which I hate). If to external, then it's just a setting in the phone that'll move everything to the external.
Still, she would have to ask for your permission, which she did. I wouldn't worry about it, they can't get that data anyway.

I called att once when I had my s4. However I had that phone so locked down even they couldn't get a connection established. When they would try to connect they would get a rejection message and my phone would force close the app. They use this to trouble shoot our phones when we call support. They ask you to accept a text link which grants them control of your phone. What you see they see. I do not like this because they can see notifications like text messages in the status bar. You will also be asked to install an apk. I don't like this idea because I have private information on my phone. But someone who is not very literate with phones may need this type of support to fix their phone malfunctions.

Got it. Now...ROOT

Just as the title implies. So far this seems to be a great phone. Picked up the 128GB White. Pre-ordered. Shipped today, but, without ROOT I'll lose some of my favorite apps, and I'm not sure that I'll be able to transfer everything, like MMS. For some reason Kies doesn't like my phone, or maybe I've hit some soft limit trying to backup 35K SMS/MMS. I have an S4, skipped the S5

Kies never worked with app data on my S4, but I used Titanium for apps anyway. With 20GB of music and video on my SD card and around 1200 SMS, it took about an hour and a half. My call logs did transfer, though.
some one should start a thread for a bounty for root. Or find geohot lol. We could use a towel root like root or exploit.

you don't have to change the screen DPI to do this. if you mean you want 5 apps across the bottom instead of 4, simply drag a new shortcut into the bar and it will resize itself to hold 5 icons. if you're talking about the grid itself, and changing from 4x4 to 4x5 or 5x5, you can do that by holding your finger on one of the small squares (that tells you which tab you're on). it will bring up a custom menu that allows you to change the screen grid settings.
as for wanting root, i'm looking for a wi-fi tethering option. this was built into the custom ROM i had on my S3, and i'm hoping someone can do the same on the S6!

You will have to excuse my ignorance i'm not a big android user, just got my new s6 edge att and i have only rooted my tablet in the past to remove bloat. Can you tell me why the att model phones take so long to root?
cheers
Who knows. It only started with the S5. Before then we had zero day roots. It really stinks, because if any phone could use it the edge could. It's highly under utilized, the lack of apps you can add in ultra power saving mode is silly. FB, but no email? The bloat, etc.
I don't have much background on this, but how is it that the Tmobile and Sprint version are already rooted so quickly? I'll have to refresh my memory on the whole root process and roms but why is it that these att phones are also not rooted at quickly?

request: edge notifications

i was wandering if there is any app or anyone who can write an app that turns the edge on whenever a notification is received...

I came from the Note Edge I appreciate the option to upgrade to S6 Edge Plus after Lolipop totally ruined my phone. But I gotta tell you I miss the edge function. Why Samsung couldn't make that happen with this perfect phone I don't know. I'm only hoping with everyone thinking this phone is a gimick will make Samsung prove that it is not!

Any luck with your Tasker solution? What approaches did you try? I'm simply trying to emulate the swipe, but I can't figure out how to do up/down in a single shell command...it's doing two separate swipes. And I can't confirm they would work with the display off. Also, I've been unsuccessful in finding an intent/activity that I can use to launch the cocktail bar.

Sorry, no luck. I did get a hold of the file but wasn't able to find anything useful and I've since switched to the note 5 so I haven't played with the edge in a while.
I tried simulated swipes but they won't work with the screen off which is exactly what we need. I was going to have Tasker use an intent to fire up the service/screen but I didn't see anything in the apk that would help. I'm no expert by any means though so there's a 95% chance I just didn't see something right in front of my nose.

Did you try Adblock Fast that is build into Samsung 4.0? Download from App store and then manually setup using instructions.
I'm using it on my S7 with zero issues and no ads. Of course, limited to Samsung browser.
I'm using adguard which sets up personal VPN on phone to block ads. Seems to work for all apps but does hit battery life a bit. Worth it for me.

Bootloaders are locked. Flash secured and all. All us carriers, not the exynos, but all us snapdragons, including tmobile. We are on twitter and got a response from John Legere who claims to be working on a potential solution to at least getting tmobiles unlocked. I'm sure something will come up eventually. Us folks on ATT are used to being screwed with the locked bootloaders. Think it might be new for T-Mobile users though. It might take a little longer, but ATT Samsung devices typically get root after some point.
I've had it since launch, my Nexus 6 basically died. I miss the debloating root allows, like how I'm forced to have the Directv app when I don't have any interest in having Directv. I do like it though it's a nice phone. If we can get root to remove the bloatware I'm for that otherwise I'll live with it for a year until something better drops.

VPNs like Adguard don't "eat" battery. What your seeing is that the system attributes all battery used by apps that access the internet to the VPN.

Seems like Pre-Lollipop builds were always hacked for root. Also, at least on my S5 G900A, Pre-rooted 5.0 was able to be flashed as long as the BL was kept OA1 (KK 4.4.4). But if you took the OTA to 5.0, no root ever! Also they totally locked it down with 5.1. FU ATT!!!!:silly:
But they sure did get into that S6 pretty fast, didn't they? Go figure.
I applied to this Samsung Mobile Insights program. Might get a free G935A or G930A if accepted into it. I do not know how I will live without root, but at least it has a sdcard. I do not have a good feeling about a battery that does not come out though...

Root vs Not (better to not?)

Alright guys, I've been out of this for a while. Actually...I'm on my rooted Note 7 right now lol.
So I'm looking for user input on what I can still do if not rooted? Phone comes tomorrow btw.
What I'm most interested in is what can still be done without root.... Disabling/freezing apps? Changing notification layout/symbols? Etc.
I know about the 80% charge thing... Could that ever be bypassed btw?
I know this is kind of a big question but I haven't had to do anything since rooting the 7 and I've been sitting here waiting for the 8. There's just so much to catch up on so I'm hoping you guys can help me either understand more of what's new or just give your .02
Thanks all!

Personal preference really. You can do just about as much without root as you can with. You can always try root out and go back if you wish. This root method does not permanently break Samsung Pay, so Odin back to stock if not satisfied. I haven't rooted since the last OTA update. Mainly because it's a wonky method. If it was true root, I would say go for it hands down... but yeaaa

I agree with Saafir! It all about your preference. I have the Note 8 rooted for testing purposes. It is not a true root and a lot of the rooted apps do not work. Plus you cannot have a custom recovery since the boot loader cannot be unlocked at the moment.

Does going back to stock bring back 100% charging?

I believe it does. Haven't seen any reports of it not going back to 100% when going back to stock.
I personally have not rooted. There are ways to do what I need to do without root. Just make sure that if you choose to root and will be using the SamFail v2.5 root method, read all that you can and search. Try not to ask questions over there unless they haven't been asked. You will get flamed big time.
Don't mind helping if you get stuck somewhere.

Roger that.
Yeah, thankfully this wouldn't be my first root rodeo by any means.
I mostly use root for bloatware removal and a handful of xposed modules. Xposed isn't working yet anyways so hopefully there'll be a future with that (or at least some form of alternatives.)
Thanks for the info guys!

Me personally i love rooting my phones to get a personal touch. But for once I really don't need to root this phone right now. Because i can still get the hotspot for f*** and use nova for a different launcher and they have most things for me to customize like screen savers, different ringers get rid of some annoying toasts popups except for the vol up warning which I can live with. Plus the Samsung pay is the deal breaker for me right now for rooting. Because it is convenient especially when I forget my wallet while at work or a quick run to the junk food store. Till there is a work around like on the note 4 for android pay I used to own before I upgraded to the 8 I'll be a lame stockboy.

There Is no need to root the n8.. but give it a try .. my two cents is the device seem slower and the apps that you install for root you wouldn't really miss. The Pro of rooting is you can change system files around to your liking and add futures that normal you wouldn't get for free. For example, I would have to pay Sprint to use spam identifier caller ID that normally Samsung would give you for free....
