More information on the rom you are on would help a lot.
But as a general rule, with odin you are able to flash kitkat as well, no lollipop needed. For odin there is no lollipop rom anyway.

@Gate11: get your last firmware from sammobile.com and flash it with the Odin-version, which is also offered at download-site. If you get a stable stock-ROM then, flash LP or MM-ROM you want.

Help with changing from 4.1.2 to 4.4.3

Hello, I've just bought i9305 with Android 4.1.2 (so no KNOX, no root) and I'd like to get newest custom KK.
I've found this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-understanding-basics-rooting-s3-gt-t2362743 but I wanna know if I understand correctly:
1. I do backup, especially /efs through recovery.
2. I do root so:
"a) Download the Latest Odin
b) Download recovery of your choice (I choose CWM) and flash it via Odin" - my question is where I can find the latest CWM for i9305?
3. Now I just flash any 4.4.3 soft? No need to flash any older rom before?
That might be a bit newbie questions... I knew everything on my old phone (SGS1) but now I don't remember these steps cuz I did that long time ago on i9000.

I had a Galaxy S i9000, a Galaxy S2 i9100 and now I have the S3 LTE and the steps where all the same.
I rooted mine with an app called 'framaroot' then installed mobile odin, flashed a CWM recovery, downloaded the rom I wanted or needed and the gapps for aosp roms... and bam... I was on 4.4.2 kitkat!
Tried many aosp roms but all of them had problems with music. It's stuttering. So I got back to alliance 4.3 and wait for (hopefully soon) 4.4.2 official!
Maybe you could get help on YouTube. There are many tutorials and instructions.

[Q] AT&T (i537) active problem with unbricking help please!

Hey guys so recently I had rooted my i537 S4 active and have been researching and modifying here and there until i decided to get a custom ROM. I found WickedROM via this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2491762 and considering it had worked on this person's i537 I decided to flash the ROM. After flashing I had become stuck in a bootloop and I can't get to anything besides DOWNLOAD MODE. Due to this problem I decided to run a stock firmware via Odin with this one_click http://rootzwiki.com/topic/44121-sgh...axy-s4-active/ ... this filled up until the bar was about 90% and then all of a sudden fails at <ID:0/003> system.img.ext4. I've tried other firmwares with no luck and have resorted to posting about this problem. please help and guide me in the right direction, my phone's been bricked for 3 days now. Trying to boot into recovery gives me the "there's been a problem with your firmware update, please run in Kies recovery" and Kies doesn't recognize my phone.

You forgot to flash the masterpatch which makes roms designed for the AT&T S4 (not active) work for our phone. If I understand correctly it needs to be flashed immediately after the rom is installed (i.e. still in SafeStrap, before you attempt to boot up).

That link is for MF1, an outdated firmware. Here is a collection of stock i537 firmwares. I can personally confirm the NH3 file is usable since I used it to upgrade to the most recent firmware without losing root.
This thread will provide you instructions on how to use Odin to flash any stock firmware. I can only add I recommend using Odin v3.07, as I've used it with the most success and fewest issues. Also use NH3 firmware or at the very least NE3, because anything else is outdated, assuming you were on stock KitKat originally, and you will encounter similar issues if trying to downgrade to jellybean.
Also flashing with Odin deletes all your saved files/user info etc. on your phone. From the sound of it, fixing your phone is going to involve inevitably wiping it one way or the other, so I hope you have a backup saved somewhere other than your phone's internal memory.

When you flash back to stock, you can only flash a version that is equal to or greater than the version you were already on. So if you were originally on 4.4.2 you can only flash a 4.4.2 stock ROM, any other ROM will fail to flash.

Thanks very much for this! I flashed an NE3 firmware and was able to get my phone in working condition. So if I wanted to flash a rom on my phone I would have to masterpatch AFTER the rom flash via Safestrap?

Yes, but make sure the phone doesn't reboot in between flashing the ROM and flashing the Masterpatch.

How to (re)root GT-I9295 after update to lollipop?

Hi everyone,
Sort of a noob question here. I am aware that the answer is very possibly already hidden somewhere in the numerous posts out there, but im getting kind of lost in all the different posts that are all somehow related to this topic.
So, I want to update my already rooted s4 active (i9295) to the latest version of Android (Lollipop, Android 5.0.*). I found enough information on this and I'm comfortable doing this.
BUT, to my knowledge, updating my rooted phone to the latest version of Android will make me lose root privileges. I haven't found a clear description on how to re-root my phone after updating. Is anyone able to help me out here?
Summary:
-------------------------------------------------------
ℹ Phone: GT-I9295
ℹ Current OS: Android 4.4.2
ℹ Custom Recovery: CWMR
-------------------------------------------------------
Objective:
-------------------------------------------------------
Re-root GT-I9295 after update to Android 5.0.*
Thanks a lot, Thomas
Flash custom recovery with Odin, then flash SuperSU in recovery.
No luck yet....
thanks for your anwser!
unfortunately I cant seem to get a custom recovery flashed through ODIN. I tried both CWM (CWM-Recovery-gt-i9295_v1-2.tar.md5) and TWRP (twrp_mythi_8.tar).
Flashing the official Android udate worked fine, so I am now on android 5.0.1, but I lost root ..... and I dont like that much... I want my root back....:crying:
Dont know if this matters in any way, but when ODIN is done, I dont get a green box that says [PASS], but blue box that says [RESET]
Any advice on getting a custom recovery installed???? Can I install it through ADB?

d8389 has given working steps to same question here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60376515
Also recommend to read my thread about failsafe method to flash anything (next post). And specific how to get from stock to custom recovery 1st time. Please use Odin 3.0x, multirom TWRP made by spegelius and SuperSU 2.46. The files that you have tried is old and made for jellybean and Kitkat. Most recent links is in my thread.
Thanks for your reply! It was no longer needed for myself, because I already got it to work, but I'm sure it will be helpful for others!

You cannot update to lollipop using twrp.
It has to be done using odin.
If you want to stay 100% stock and rooted then you need
to odin flash twrp and cf-autoroot.
If you want to flash a custom lollipop rom then you will
need to odin flash lollipop official firmware and odin
flash twrp.
All custom roms are pre-rooted so no need to root them.
Good luck!

Thanks.. So can I just straight up update from what I'm on now?
Just put phone in download mode and update via Odin correct?
Will this erase my stuff internal memory? Movies/pictures
Yes you can. You should back up your stuff though because you'll want to do a factory reset or erase data to get the best results with lollipop.
Although, I did all that and I've got my movies and pictures.

Be sure you get the proper version of the lollipop N910T tmobile
firmware from a reliable source like http://sammobile.com and
flash it using odin.
Before flashing new firmware it's always best to do a factory reset first.
Back up all your important stuff first.
Good luck!

Sure is a big file to download :silly:
That's totally safe.
I just odin flashed.
I didn't erase data till I flashed my rom.
Admittedly within a minute of going through the process.
Mega's instructions are good. You just stop at 5
odin reads and i get the com light up and reads it but it wont find my lollipop firmware i downloaded on the pda part

You need to navigate in odin and find the location where you saved the firmware file.
There is a box next to the PDA slot and you need to click it and use it to locate the file.
Good luck!

is it safe to update using kies? i tried it and reads my phone and the FW but i chicken out when it said " might not work right if device is rooted" something like that

Yes it's perfectly safe and doing it that way you will not loose any data,
passwords or settings.
It also is a lot faster than downloading the firmware file.
I am not sure if rooting makes a difference, when I updated using kies
it worked fine for me, kies did tell me that I have un-official firmware
but it gave me the option to continue which I did without any issues.
With kies it takes less than 1/2 the time for it to complete the download and
install/update the firmware compared to a standard download and flash..
Good luck!

No working links to any roms??

I have found my old Exhibit 4g and want to give it some sort of use but unfortunately it has no OS and I can't get Odin or Windows to recognize the phone when it's in download mode. I'm able to enter TWRP but I can't find a single rom... please share a working link if you still have one. Thanks in advance.
You should be able to flash the stock ROM (uvlg3.flash2stock.zip) from TWRP. For something newer, there are some CyanogenMod ROM downloads on posts 2 and 3 which are still live.
