with MM the battery drain is better than Lollipop? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

for people that upgare their devices to MM
the battery drain is better?

I don't see much of a difference actually, but it could only be me also.

With 5.1, my Moto X was draining about 12% overnight. After updating to 6.0, the overnight drain was reduced to 9% (with 83% of that being cell standby). Not a huge difference if you ask me, but certainly greater than statistical error. Full stock, no root.

thanks for your feedback

[Q] Battery Life is Important

To those who own the phone, I want to know any battery life statistics you can provide.
I am very interested in this phone as it has that amazing keyboard, a nice 4" QHD screen, and it at least seems plausible there will be roms available at some point. But battery life I am not sure about, all the reviews I have read don't hit too hard on the battery life and I want someone to tell me heavy details about the battery life.
On a side note, if anyone can compare their D3 to this that would be great. I currently own a Droid Incredible, it is running MIUI, I have brightness set to 15-35% max, I have 3G turned off with Wifi on (as I live on a college campus with lots of wifi). On Easy to Moderate usage, I wouldn't have to charge for 2-3 days, On Medium to Heavy usage I end the day with at least 15%. With those same settings could I expect that from the Droid 3? (if so I would be extremely happy as I am very pleased with the Dinc battery life but I definitely need a keyboard.)
thank you for any help!
-Brett
I know the people who successfully had used the bloat removal script apparently get great battery, didn't work for me. But, depends what you consider heavy and moderate I guess. I usually charge once before leaving from work (I like to have more than 50% battery) I think I'm down to about 30% usually towards the end of my shifts playing music from my phone, txting a lot, browsing facebook and some forums.
It works decently when I'm off work tho cuz I txt and browse less.
Battery life is much improved if you listen to those running the leaked OS which the rest of us are waiting for "soon". Currently, battery life is disappointing. The battery life with light usage is erratic, some nights, just sitting on my desk, its drained to 20% from a full charge in 10-12 hours. Other nights, its at 80%. I gave up trying to figure it out.
I'm coming from a Droid X and the D3 is getting at least 35% less battery life for the same usage. My numbers aren't scientific, but I know I'm usually at 30% with the DX by 4pm; with the D3 I'm usually at 15% by 2pm. Both are using the Motorola extended battery.

Comparing apples and oranges will always be disappointing.
This phone has better battery life than any other phone I've owned since 1999 -- AFTER the update! Note that I do not consider simple hours-to-dead measurements, but how much I use the device. I think that for a dual-core, large-screen, keyboard, 3G device, its efficiency is excellent. Anyone who thinks the D3 has poor battery life has not owned an HTC or Samsung device lately
Before the update.. about 8-14hours of battery life. With the update, easily 2+ days and I use it quite a bit.
..
I can confirm that the battery life is drastically increased with the new OTA update. After about 9 hours of usage of occational web browsing, listening to music, and making a few calls, the battery only drained by 40% on the extended battery pack.

Sorry Dude but my incred2 running Miui and or OMFGB SMOKES this D3 with the new OS leak with battery life..Smokes it.......
I missed a charge over the weekend (charger not plugged into wall) and by the end of the second day on the battery I still had 49% charge left.
Make sure you get the extended battery.
Inc2
Yeah my dad has an inc2.....the battery life is pretty remarkable. My d3 just doesn't last as long haha
Before I purchased my Droid 3, I took the heed of several and also got the extended battery.
Now I use mine for business purposes, so I do not use any social applications. Just Exchange, Gmail, and one POP3 account. All set for Push. Probably on the phone 30-60 minutes a day. I have the Exchange data turned off at night as I use Touchdown for this and it lets me set my schedule.
I charge it when I it gets down to around 20 %, That is normally after three days of use. That's been pretty consistent since the first week I had it which has been at least a month ago.
Still Stock..... Of course YMMV....

Do you have a Bell branded XT860 or are you running with Verizon Droid3? I am wondering because my XT860's extended battery is a little rough (barely gets through an entire day) and was wondering if Bell released an update for that phone. Note I'm on Rogers, so I'm not sure if that would make a difference on me getting OTA updates.
Comparing a single-core phone with a 3.7" screen to a dual-core phone with a 4" display is not apples to apples to begin with. Throw in a FULLY debloated and optimized ROM(miui) with a custom kernal on a single core 3.7" phone is more like grapes to watermelons.
With the standard battery I can take the phone off the charger when I wake up and get through the day no problem. I am simply rooted with all the bloat frozen with TiBu.

Battery life on 2.3.5

Anybody notice any changes as far as battery life. I just wanna know because im currently using a 1800 mAh battery (lost original battery) from ebay and they don't longer then stock. If you see any major changes i might just buy an OEM battery.
I did notice an increase in battery life when I upgraded to 2.3.5. I am a heavy user of my phone on a daily basis and it last about 5-6 hours longer from my experience.
Switching to V20p showed a very noticeable increase in battery life for myself.

The battery life has improved so much, I'm not getting the extended battery. Maybe a couple of regular batteries as the improvement easily takes my phone all day. Before update, it would only last 4-5 hours with usage.
I have to agree battery life has increased by quite a bit. My wife was getting severely pissed off at this phone because of battery life and other Froyo glitches and since updating she has yet to have any issues and stopped complaining about battery drain. Ahh the relief of not having to hear about how she hates the phone and wants it replaced Now lol. Hopefully we get to see ICS eventually, not that I am counting on it anytime in the near future and most likely not at all but still it's a nice thought lol.
better definitely. Not as good as the Rogers Samsung Galaxy S Captivate battery life though. Can't believe how much that one improved with the gingerbread update.
Had anyone else been seeing strange issues on the Rogers gingerbread update Ruth the battery stats? This morning after an hour off the charger battery was at 88% when viewing the battery usage it showed 15s on battery and that the only thing using it was the display and the percent was 165% I have a screen cap to upload later to show it.

Same here. My P925 have same problem. The stock ROM and ThiaiZO3D, which I am using, are same. It always show me less than 20s even after 24h.

[Q]Battery life

Ok so I got my XZ yesterday and the battery life is worse than my SGS3. My S3 lasted 1.5 to 2 days with the same amount of usage. I have no idea how the battery life is on 4.3 or 4.2.2 as I upgraded it to .230, the moment i got the phone.
Anyways, my question is whether the battery life improves if i install custom roms (LB) or is the problem kernel sided.
Also is 7% of battery usage a lot? Google play services is taking 7% of battery.

[Q] [POLL] Battery Life on Stock LOLLIPOP

So Guys android 5.0 is here and i think most of u have tried it.So hows Battery performance on lollipop?
I feel it's worse TBH. I've tried several different roms and revisions and it still seems to be worse. Maybe I'm just playing with my phone more but my SOT can't seem to break 4 hours and it usually can't go all day on a charge.
Same. My battery life definitely seems worse.
I had better battery life on the developer Preview!!
this sucks
after removing Google Now and Google Fit, it has improved a bit, but still bad.
On some days it's pretty bad and on other days it isn't with pretty much the same setup... LOL
I accept the fact that battery has gotten worse with Lollipop, but I'm sure they'll fix this on the next release.
Chill~
Worse.
Developer Preview was significantly better than stick KK, final release the same as KK if not slightly worse. Was definitely expecting more from LP.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium HD app
mine is definitely way way way better
I'm a heavy user and its better than KK
I had the dev preview and Battery life was better than KK
Now on final release battery life is 1% drain per minute if I dont use the phone (but I discovered exchange services and gmail had updated from the one from the apk's I installed on the dev preview
re built again last night and max is 4 hours again without using the phone
2nd rebuld I did not restore anything
KK could be a day or 2 with using the phone before needing a charge

Ok, here is my xperia z3 compact not been charged for at least a day, has all the same apps and is used about the same as the Nexus 5 (z3 running kitkat, with NO power saving features enabled) and actually has a lot more apps running than Lollipop
and this is the Nexus 5 with only the apps you can see listed as running apps that was from a full charge overnight
It has dropped another 4% since taking that pic
In my case, the standby time of my N5 (which is new, I got it back from a RMA a month ago, so its battery isn't worn) is much worse on Lollipop than Kitkat: it drops 5% battery in one night in airplane mode, while 4.4.4 barely dropped 1%. On the other hand, the battery life when using the phone is way better! Before updating, I always got less than 4h SoT; now I get past 4.30 without even activating the battery saver.
So I'm not voting at the moment.
Mine is better than KitKat, some random drain's, quick soft reset fixes it.
Battery has definitely taken a hit wid L. Clean flash where
Mine's definitely better. I'm not a heavy user, but on KK I would need to charge during the day at work (usually afternoon time)...but now I can leave it till I get home.
I don't charge my N5 overnight, instead I wait to come in to work where I have a Qi charger on my desk. Usually I see it sitting at about 95% when I put it on the charger at work after leaving it alone all night. This morning I see it at 65%. I have never had it drop that low in one night before android 5 showed up.
What is even more interesting is that the battery stats claim that basically no one has been using any battery power. The highest number is 3% for wifi with 2% and 1% for a few other things, so where the heck did the 35% of the battery charge go?
I was in a similar situation as most people in this thread but currently I'm on my first discharge cycle on optipop rom with uber kernel and im on 4 hour screen on time with 20% to go.
I have google now off and location on and spent most of my time on wifi with avg cell signal.
I flashed the OTA manually and haven't done a factory reset, but the battery life is better than ever. 3 days and 9 hours, and 3.27 h screen on time. Brightness is set to auto.

Of course, if pay more games, I'll get it down much much faster.
I have some random battery drain issues too. But I think the issues belongs to 3rd party apps. In the safe mode there's not any battery drain. The 3rd party apps aren't compatible with Lollipop yet. So the main issue is this apps. Now 'Im trying to uninstall and reinstall the apps to find which apps drain the battery in deep sleep. I think which apps has a "cancel deep sleep mode" permission may drain battery if it's not updated for Lollipop. It's just a guess though.
First my battery life was really bad. I couldn't figure it out. I decided to do full wipe and it helped a lot. Now the battery life is better than on kitkat.

I'm getting worse battery life than any ROM stock or not I've run on the phone. I had better battery life on the dev previews. I don't think I've broken 3 hours screen on time or mixed usage(screen time+music time)once since the official image came out. I've done 2 or 3 clean flashes of the image and had also tried the Nexus 5 Experience ROM. I've used it each time rooted. Last night I did another clean flash of the image locked the bootloader and am going to try running it unrooted for a day or so with only 4 or 5 user apps installed. It shouldn't make a difference but I'm going to see what happens.

Sudden battery life drop, much less SOT with the same usage as before

So, on top of MIUI 11 completely destroying the battery life, I had another drop in longevity of a charge.
Could it be possible that my battery died after less than 6 months of owning the phone?
I'm not going to use AccuBattery as it's wildly inaccurate on every phone I used it on.
Get a battery stats app which can log the runtime & battery consumption accurately then try to post here so people can check it out... Something like battery battery stats etc
