Hi! I'm glad I found this forum because I've been wanting to remove that annoying ATT bloatware that came with my phone for ages. I've already go through the process of updating my rooted phone to LP 5.0.1 using flashfire as stated in http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-active/general/how-to-update-to-i537oc6-5-0-1-t3089355 but now that I've rooted my phone what can I do to it? I'm really just looking for some suggestions since I've gone through the trouble of doing this. I was looking for ROMs, and correct me if I'm wrong, but they all seem to not want to play nice with the I537 version of the phone, so I'm also looking for something to add a bit more flair for my newly rooted phone. Thanks again for any feedback, it's really appreciated!

Hiya all! I was hoping i could get some advice on your recommended method for rootng my new S5. I havent done a root since i bought my s4 over a year ago, so i wanna get up to speed on current rooting. I already tried the Towelroot and it doesnt work on my phone. Im guessing my phone came preloaded with the update that breaks towelroot. I tried the tricks with changing the number values in Towel by tapping the screen 3 times , but none of them worked, they all say my phone isnt compatible. So id like to know a few things. A: which root method do you wonderful XDA peeps recommend i use? and B: what would u recommend i do to remove all the annoying bloatware and such? Its been a while for me, so i didnt wanna rush headlong into this without getting a professional opinion first. Perhaps theres a good custom Rom i could flash?
Thanks!

Samsung unlock Bootloader on SM-870A.
Thanks ! That was a breeze! phone has been successfully rooted! Any recommendations on what to use to remove all the bloatware and crap? Im considering trying a custom rom sometime, but for now i at least wanna clean this up and get it running better with more storage space!
Hey all,
As the title aludes to, I'm totally lost with rooting my note 3 running 4.4.4. I've been pokling around this site for a few hours but I'm not really seeing what I need. Basically all I want to do is be able to tether my note 3 (it's SIM unlocked on an african Carrier,. the phone is from at&t originally though). As I understand it, i need to root my phone in order to use this feature (f*ck AT&T). Anyway, I did use the search but I can't find any info on rooting a phone that is already on 4.4.4. Do i need to downgrade or is there an a way to root 4.4.4. In any case could someone give me a full step by step or point me in the right direction? I hate to be that guy posting duplicate threads but I'm kinda stuck. Sorry/thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
No, there's no way to root 4.4.4 that I know of yet, you have to install 4.4.2, root it, flash a 4.4.4 that won't kill your data, then it should be rooted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/n900aucucnc2-odin-files-t2838117 are the 4.4.2 (NC2) files. I don't have a link to the 4.4.4 files handy, but I'm sure they're in the development subforum. (You want the 4 separate files, not the all-in-one, so your data doesn't get overwritten - in both cases.) Get into 4.4.2, root with https://towelroot.com/ then go back to 4.4.4 (if you want - I'm still running 4.4.2, so I don't have to reflash kernels to get into SafeStrap; Mobile Odin doesn't work on the Note 3 yet, and I don't want to carry a laptop around in my pocket).
I think.
I went round and round with different ROMs all last week, reflashing 4.4.2 after each one, rooting, installing SafeStrap, restoring my data, etc., etc., until I can't remember exactly what the exact steps are, but I think I got it right.
And there are a few threads her on how to root 4.4.4 - with downgrading to 4.4.2, or just flashing the 4.4.2 kernel, or something.
But no, you can't directly root 4.4.4 yet.
As for tethering, see if there's a tethering app that will work without rooting, or just go to Settings/Connections and enable Tethering and see if that works. If it does, there's no reason to go through all the trouble of rooting (which is terrifying the first time you do it - and boring by the 10th).

Thanks for the info! I'll give it a try once I get home. Unfortunatly there's no way to tether on an unrooted unless at&t allows it (that I know of). And at&t cant allow it since I don't have them as a carrier right now. I've trid a couple apps from the appstore already and they either try to carrier verify or it's just a widget of the phones tethering function. I don't particularly care about flashing custom roms so if there's a way to tether in my situation then I'd love to try.
It seems that I have root for...most...intents and purposes, but not when it come to things like xposed or next app so fix. Now I'm running 1.4.4.B.0.37 On Xperia Z1s. Rooted using flash tool, note... Does seem to freeze at the reboot part when it tries to install busybox so I manually install from marke. I had root for awhile then saw on xda that you could "proper" root by updating threw ota. Tried and failed multiple times. I have a screenshot of the error from xposed. Any help greatly appreciated.

Figured Out
Well, i never gave up and figured out the problem. Even though i had the newest version through OTA, it did me no good to revert back to last version since thats the version you have to "proper" root. Sooo, i downgraded...again...to stock (C6916_14.2.C.0.159_TMobile.ftf) then rooted and it worked. doing installs and checking as i type but so far viper4android and xposed are g2g. now to upgrade to next version (C6916_14.4.B.0.37_T-Mobile.ftf) for "proper" root. thanks and glad if i could help others with same problem. I think i will post a guide for z1s so others (seems to be alot of us) can have noob friendly guide. :highfive:
starting my guide...
I am starting my guide and wanted to know if there should be a specific area i should post it? Is the correct place here in the Q&A area? or in the Development area?
Hi all I'm confused I got a galaxy S5 on Wed with Lollipop already installed. I've read multiple posts and still have one question, "Can this phone be rooted?" I keep finding different answers. If not can I reload an older version of android that can be rooted, I need root for my anti-theft and Titanium Backup. Not to mention root is needed for removing Bloat(crap)ware that Samsung and AT&T install.
Thanks

As this time, no, the G900A with the completely stock 5.x load can not be rooted.
Since the bootloader is locked, and they bumped one of the counters with the 5.x loader, you can not install a previous version. You're welcome to try but if it fails you will likely have an unrecoverable brick - unless the AT&T Store or Samsung Experience Store has the complete ODIN file to re-flash your device with.
Until someone determines a way of rooting the stock L load, you're stuck without.
Regards.

Im in thesame boat as u. I have been told by a bunch of high ranking devs that it will come its just a matter of time. If u downgrade im almost positive u will end with a very expensive paper weight. Just relax it will come
somebody can check language on 5.0 ? can be enabled multilanguage with language enabler or more locale etc ?

Thank you for the quick reply. I'll wait as I'm sure it's just a matter of time before someone cracks this version or a compatible ROM is published
I only root to get rid of bloatware. While lollipop seems to be handling the ram and battery usage better, it still makes me angry when I see one of those crap apps running that I can't uninstall.
One would think the FCC would make AT&T and others allow this stuff to be uninstalled when the consumer owns the phone.
Kingo root method
just watched a video on WWJOSHDU youtube page, about kingo rooting at&t devices any idea whether that includes the S5 with lollipop?
I found on my wife s5 which I had to unroot and return to stock for warranty when I got the replacement & upgraded to lollipop that in app settings you can disable all the bloat

You can download PackageDisabler.apk and disable all bloatware. It also fixed the "Unauthorized Actions......." recurring prompt after the latest security update by disabling all KNOX related packages.
I'm kinda a noob at this but I'm not completely clueless. .. I've tried a couple one click apps, watched a few videos, and read countless articles without any luck. .. can someone help me? If it's even possible....
From all I've read, no, you can't. You can root NC2 (Android 4.4.2 KitKat) or OC1. You might check this post out.
An old thread, but I just wanted to leave this for others.
There aren't any public tools to directly root the OC3, OC2, or OC1 Lollipop firmwares for the N900A.
However, it is possible to achieve root by wiping the phone, installing the NC2 (KitKat) firmware, and then upgrading the OCx, while preserving root access.
I had followed the threads (at the time back then) using SafeStrap methods, but I couldn't get SafeStrap to work with OC3, so I had to abandon SafeStrap and use FlashFire to install OC3 and maintain root.
After that, I deodexed OC3, install xposed, and was up and running happy.
I'm not sure exactly what Samsung fixed, but OC3 was released a full 18 months after OC2, so I think it's a more secure software release (only 2.5 years old, instead of 4+ years, heh). I recall that on OC2, some of the stagefright CVE's still showed as vulnerable, but I just ran the Zimperium app on OC3 and see it reports that it's not vulnerable to any of the CVEs.
@digitalcandy4me thanks for the helpful info. This is one of the few times I've read this solution. It's the only one I've seen that seems promising.
Like OP I'm newb. But I've never rooted a phone. I've done plenty of other tech but I hate coding. I just want to change the dumb stock rom on this phone. Bloatware haunts me simply on principal.
I have "unlocked" att 5.0 lollipop Samsung n900a 0c3 and info on this phone is crickets. I have no idea how to downgrade to 4.4, I'm not confident it will even work but I'll try it. I paid 70$ so no big deal + it seems like I couldn't even succeed in bricking this stupid vault.
ANYWAY could you possibly give some more detail on how to do this? I know people hate getting vague questions on this board but it seems like there's no where to find answers. I really have looked.
