I am on AT&T and the reason I bought this phone was because, according to the specs in the FCC site, it has LTE Band 17 (which is the most common one for AT&T).
I was only getting 3G (HSPA+) speeds. I followed the following procedure to enable LTE for data and still be able to place/receive phone calls:
Do this at your own risk
Open the dial pad
Type: *#0011# to enter Service Mode (Be very careful with what you do here)
Note: You need to be rooted for this to work
Once in Service Mode, do the following:
Tap the menu button and tap Back
Tap the menu button again and select "Key Input" and enter an upper case Q and press OK
Tap the menu button again and select "Key Input" and enter 4 zeroes (0000) and press OK
Wait from 5 to 15 seconds. You'll see the Main Menu
Choose option [2]: UE SETTING & INFO
Choose option [1]: SETTING
Choose option [1]: PROTOCOL
Choose option [2]: NAS
Choose option [1]: NETWORK CONTROL
Choose option [4]: BAND SELECTION
Choose option [4]: LTE Band Preference
Choose option [7]: LTE ALL (Or you can choose band 17 instead)
Tap the menu button and choose Back (Don't press the back key)
Tap again the menu button and choose Back
Choose option [6]: LTE/WCDMA Mode Only
Press the back key to exit
And that's it: You now have LTE and calls if using AT&T. This won't work with TMobile.
If you reboot your phone, you may need to repeat the steps.

I am confused. I am also on ATT - I bought this phone back when it first came out. All I did was add the ATT APN and then I was able to get LTE just fine. I didn't have to do anything like you described.
So - are you saying you added your APN and still had to go thru all of those steps?

Yes, that's exactly what happened to me. For some reason B17 was not enabled in my phone.

That brings up another question - If I am getting LTE now - does that mean I am already getting data via that Band you mentioned ? Or could it be that I am getting it from some other band? (forgive these noobie type questions - I really don't know that much about this)
and is there a difference between the speeed you can get from any of the different bands?

Try this free app to show you what LTE band you are using
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.simplyadvanced.ltediscovery
Most likely if you are on AT&T is band 17.
The higher the frequency the most difficult it is for the signal to travel farther or into building. You'll better results if you are receiving on 700MHz than 2600MHz, but that is determined by your carrier (although there are ways to manually change it)
Yup my AT&T LTE bands weren't activated as well. Had to go through these steps and they worked perfectly!

Thanks for the informatino - I had no idea that some phones had problems connecting to LTE - I personally never have had that issue with any of the TMOBILE PHONES i have used on ATT (Note 3 and my S5) but its good to know this in case it ever happens with a future phone.
anyway, for grins and gigglesI got the app suggested - but I can't see in the app where it says what band I am using?
I attached a screen shot - can you tell me what I should be looking for?

Thanks - Got it - and you were right, Band 17
Hey Miscom. Thank you for the post. I am considering this phone. I am wondering if this phone is fully compatible with all LTE At&t bands? I copied the At&t band info from a post on another forum and pasted it below. I assume that it is correct.
At&t LTE Bands
4G HSPA and HSPA+ use 850Mhz(Band 5) and 1900Mhz(Band 2) bands but it all depends on area if they own a license. LTE uses Band 17(700Mhz), Band 5(850Mhz), Band 2(1900Mhz), Band 4(1700/2100Mhz) currently.
It appears that Band 4(1700/2100) is missing from the SM-G906S specs.
SM-G906S LTE Bands (Source: http://28mobile.com/Product/View/68834/samsung-galaxy-s5-prime-lte-a-sm-g906s-k-32gb-black-4g/)
Infrastructure 4G LTE
2G GSM GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900
3G UMTS B1 (2100), B2 (1900), B5 (850)
4G LTE B1 (2100), B3 (1800), B5 (850), B7 (2600), B17 (700)

You are correct: Band 4 is missing. For AT&T only band 17 is available in the G906S.
Band 17 is the main LTE band for AT&T. I traveled by car a few days ago from Tennessee to New York and except for a few places, I got LTE most of the time. Never saw E, only 3G (AT&T's 4G) and LTE.
Same here I have LTE pretty much 99% everywhere I go. I'm on AT&T as well.
That is good news. Do you guys know if there will be ROM support by cyanogen for this phone?
Also. Where did you guys get yours?

Hi all,
Considering buying the G906S from 28Mobile,
I am on T-Mobile though, Is there any way to make the LTE work?
No

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I know for a fact that the G906S and K do not work with T-Mobile. I don't know the band's for L, it might be compatible.

What APN did you use?
I found this on AT&T official website,
Your device will need to work on one of these GSM network frequencies:
AT&T Multi-band GSM
UMTS, LTE or unlocked Multi-band GSM - 850/1900 MHz
UMTS - 850/1900 MHz
LTE Band 2 - 1900 MHz
LTE Band 4 - 1700 MHz
LTE Band 5 - 800 MHz
LTE Band 17 - 700 MHz
So if I run LTE discovery, it shows LTE band is 4, if I go into *#*#3282#*#* it shows bands 12,25,26,41 nothing else..... Also all 4 of these bands have a priority setting of 0....If I go into *#*#4636#*#* and go into the menu , select radio band...it shows USA Band, Band Mode 6, Band Mode 7 and Band mode 15 which is weird no indication of band 4 anywhere..... I read that Telus's fastest LTE is on Band 7 but I have no clue how to get there.... I am downtown Calgary so there should be coverage... any suggestions?
Hi,
I own sm-t715y, samsung website mention the availability of tdd lte band 40, i want to use a provider which is data only, it doesn't have any voice capability (called bolt). And a cdma provider which uses tdd lte band 40 as well (called smartfren).
Most of the tutorial on other devices which has tdd lte band 40 support has these steps:
1. Force lte only
2. Turn radio off and on
3. Set apn
I can't set force lte only on this tablet yet, tried *#0011# and *#2263# but it cant, the 2nd one cannot pop at all, please advice
When you say other device, this isn't Samsung is it.
I also have a S2 with band LTE 40, why don't you just buy a data only sim card, that is what I have 10GB data 1 year time limit.
Yes, the other device is oneplus one, alcatel one touch flash.
I tried experimenting with smartfren but no success at all, have not tried with the data only bolt, the cs said it cant but i doubt its true.
That is why, I had many Samsung, and non of them has lte only.
different phone/tablet has different features.
I have a Verizon S8 that I flashed with the XAC firmware and so I'm at XAA/VZW/VZW after enabling all bands. However, even though the entire bay area should be blanketed under band 12, I have not once connected to band 12. I'm always on band 4. Has anyone with a original Tmo S8 ever connected to band 12 in the SF bay area? You can check using LTE Discovery or SignalCheck apps from the Play store. The whole reason for me to go through the trouble of flashing the non-VZW firmware was to ensure I would be able to access band 12 but doesn't seem like that worked.
I'm sitting at home on my T-Mo S8 in the SF Bay Area and I'm on Band 4. I'll check at work tomorrow morning and let you know.
If you don't have connectivity issues, it shouldn't go to band 12. As band 12 is a lower frequency and cannot carry as much bandwidth. From what I've researched previously, the phone will only take a band 12 signal if there are no other bands with a stable signal in the area as tmobile got it for the sole purpose of distance and wall penetration achieved at 700mhz to say they have a larger LTE coverage map.
. Also this from experience as my house only gets band 2 outside and when I come inside it switches to band 12. And with the lte booster connected, it uses the outside band 2.
Unless you are saying that your phone goes to no service instead of to band 12, then i have no answer
Dail *#0011# in your phone to see if band 12 is being aggregated with band 4.
If you want to see if band 12 works you could dial *#2263# and select only band 12 to work.

You have to select "Apply band configuration" after you selected the ones you want or they wont take effect.

got cha. gotta hit back to previous screen where i previous selected lte band, but press option 7 to apply setting. lol. still new at this but it works. although band 12 is just as slow as band 4 at home. i get faster speed with band 2, however, lte discover still shows band 4 even though im actually on band 2.
tks again

No prob!
I used LTE discovery before and it always told me i was on band 4 when it wasn't in my area, only 2/12.

never got to try the service modes since i been using verizon brand phones on tmobile , lol. it makes so much sense to use tmobile brand samsung phone on tmobile network.
anyway now i can wait patiently on the root. no need to get network signal guru now to change lte bands since that app requires root
Thanks all. I bought the Verizon version cuz it's unlocked and it was the cheapest at Best buy. Plus it would be a hand me down for my bro who's on Verizon service when I upgrade lol I always thought band 12 was the godsend for Tmo. I did not know it was just a fall back band. I did notice today at work I was occasionally connected to band 12 but would almost immediately reconnect to 4 whenever I checked. Either signalcheck app was wrong or it really only uses 12 for a back up if nothing else is available.
Hey guys,
xda still going strong. nice to see.
need some help though.
i bought a note 8(yes in 2020) for some reason(side device) and i got stuck with a problem right away.
i noticed that TDD LTE bands(band 34,38,39,40,41) are all missing from my device.
i am having an exynos varient (n950f)
i was monitoring my network from past 2 days and 3ca was working fine. i was connected to 3,5 and band 40 all together.
i wanted better reception so went in network selection mode and selected band 5 preffered. i dialed *#0011# to check my ca status and i was still transmitting on all 3 bands with speeds well over 100mbps.
after some time my speeds died and i no longer see band 40 in *#0011# menu and i have tried restarting device and what not but still cant connect to band 40.
i am pretty sure TDD LTE bands including band 40 was missing from band selection menu earlier too but things were just fine. not i am stuck with a expensive device that fails badly.
please help.
on some inspection i observed that my phones is continously doing 2ca even when using no major data on band 3 and 5.
basic is stuck on band 3 and s1 on band 5. me changing to whatever setting in band selection in hiddennetworksetting dont affect it.
tried selecting bands that my operator dont even support. not in preffered mode but as the only hard selection. makes no diffrence. network signals shuts for a second and i am back on band 3 and 5 combo
