Sim card removed, please restart
I keep getting this error on my Note5. Sometimes it'll go a week before happening, and other times it'll happen a few times a day. Can't tell what's causing it, but always happens when screen is off and phone is idle. Have never had it happen when I'm using the phone. Any suggestions?
Try to replace your sim happen to me same thing
Get new sim and never had any problems with new sim

How can you replace the sim when you can't remove the back cover?

Happened to me a bit as well. Make sure your phones are updated. Haven't tried changing the sim card yet but I know that some early builds of Marshmallow roms had a bug that said the card was removed
Also, for the user that asked how to change sim cards, the slot is built on the top, and can be removed by using a paper clip and pressing into the hole that pushes that sim card holder out of the slot
Same problem to me, it is not firmware problem and not sim card problem, i have got this issue on android 6 and now on android 7, Noone have the right solusion for this ?
Just to chime in, it's been happening to me too, since two months, but I think got worse since the last security update of about a week ago. Turkey region ROM.

It is really a problem.
Use a thin tape and cover the top portion of the Sim card and the tray. Make sure it's a perfect fit or at least sticks onto the tray real good. Problem could be the Sim card moving too much because of the Sim tray isn't a tight fight... Which is a design flaw from Samsung's part. Hit the thanks button if this helped u out.

I got the same problem. Sometimes 2 times a day. Some time 2 times a weeks. Sometimes server times a month. Probably caused by sim tray not hold sim card tightly. I will try to use electric tape to cover the sim if could solve

The tape fixed my problem. Thanks so much.
I also facing the same problem..its always appear "SIMCARD REMOVED..Please restart your device"..its happen to me about 1 and a half week ago after my Galaxy Tab A perform a software update...before this its never happen...is it an ANDROID problem or my Tab A problem?
I was having the same problem, I did everything I could think of to fix it, factory reset etc... I finally took it to ATT and had a new sim put in about 3 mos ago and haven't had the problem since. The tech there told me that it had to do with the new cell tower regulations ( I think he was full of BS and didn't know what he was talking about) and the way the original sim card was coded for Android 6.0 that once it upgraded to 7.0 and started getting the security updates that it was causing conflicts in the phone so I needed a new upraded sim. The good part was that I don't cost anything
Using medical tape is better than electric tape to attach on top of both simcard and simtray.

I am considering buying an otterbox and I got to thinking how big a pita it may be to remove the sim and sd card each time I flash. So my question is what does it cause if you leave the SIM in and SD in and flash a new ROM? Whatever problems people say it cause, has anyone experienced the problem themselves?
Some things are just 1 in a million or old stuff that doesnt impact things now so I am trying to figure out the difference.
Thanks!
I do it as rule of thumb. Today I did not. Have not had an issue yet

I've never removed my sim, and never had a problem.....
I am a firm believer that if you are having problems with a ROM delete everything possible and remove the SIM and SD. though I have installed the last few ROMs with both in without any real problems.
i would be interested in finding out why its suggested...
Never removed anything before unless I soft bricked it.

I never remove the SIM while flashing. Don't generally remove the external SD card either. I didn't even remove them when recovering from a soft brick. If it's a concern of possibly losing data you can always back it up when you mount them to use on your computer.
To answer your ultimate question you really don't need to be removing the Captivate from your Otterbox.

I've never removed it. Don't see why we would need to to be honest
I've never removed mine, never had trouble. I think it might be one of those "do it if it makes you feel better" sort of things.
I flashed once with the SIM to Cog6 about 5 weeks ago and lost my baseband version. Meaning, I couldn't make calls.
Reflashed to 1 click then back to Cog W/O SIM and I calls worked again

neither have i and i have flashed probably 30 times or more and never had a single issue.
I think I took the SIM out like once. And I've done hundreds of ROM flashes.
Only time you would need to take out your SIM is if your phone is soft-bricked so bad you end up having to do the whole take out everything to get it back into DOWNLOAD mode.
Otherwise - I've flashed probably about as much as Mikey (sad for not being a developer/chef) and never had an issue.
Arrrrgggghhhhh . . . micro SD card won't stay in. I know I'm pushing it in far enough and it feels like it's locking in place. I had NO problem ejecting it so it just doesn't make sense.
I've tried 2 different cards and neither will stay in. I search XDA and internet for solution but the only thing that I find is to return it because it appears the SD card slot is broken. I bought my NC used on eBay over 2 months ago and everything has been working fine, so returning it is NOT solution for me.
Any suggestions are very, very much appreciated!!
By the way, this is my first post . . . so, please be gentle!!!
Can you get it to boot from it if you hold it in with your finger?

The same thing happened to me, I also couldn't return it. I bought it from eBay and I live in Europe.
I couldn't fix the SD slot, but I noticed that if I force the card to stay in it connects. In the end I pushed a folded piece of thin cardboard between the card and the plastic, which forced the card to stay in. It has worked ok for the last 4 months or so. I cannot remove the sd-card though, but since I have a 32gb one, it doesn't really matter.
Could it be out of spec cards and not the nook that is causing the problems? Have you tried other cards or brand of card to see if they might stay in place?

For me at least the sd card slot was definitely broken, I tried at least three different cards from different brands that were official ones/not counterfeit.
Similar happened here. In this case, after about 8 months the 2 retaining springs fell out, so the card wouldn't "latch" in place. At least I could put the card in and have it work but had to use a dental tool to rescue it.
It was still under the original warranty (and I did buy the 1yr extended as well-I think I'm going to be glad that I did).
B+N CS was slow and slightly clueless- but unfailingly nice. Had a "new" refurb in 5 working days.
Even if you're the second owner, you might want to call CS and run the serial # to see if there's still any warranty left. Couldn't hurt.....
Otherwise, if you're brave enough, you can try to get in there and remove the springs entirely. The card will stay in place but you will need a tool of some sort to remove it when needed.
I had the same issue, called B&N and they wanted to to take it to the closest B&N to me which is like an hour away. I kinda did something that was bad for me to do but I erased everything before attempting to install a ROM. I was able to boot into recovery but I can install stuff from the uSD. i ended up erasing the entire nook to where it boots to a screen that says
Code:
A N D R O I D _
and said something had happened and the CS finally sent me a new nook.
Thanks for all of the feedback. The Nook boots up just fine. I needed to install the old version of Marketplace so that's when I discovered that the sd card won't stay in. I had JUST used it to restore a backup and I had no problems ejecting it nor to I recall hearing anything weird or seeing anything fall out (other than the sd card). I'll try rantak's sugguestion of a piece of cardboard.
I spent 45 minutes at B&N when I first bought the NC as I wanted to register it in my name but because I couldn't contact the previous owner to deregister, B&N basically refused to help me with anything! And I felt they were looking down on me because I bought a used NC on eBay. It wasn't like I would NOT be a customer but after that . . . I'm NOT a customer any longer!!!
Mine now does this to, but if I push hard it will finally stay in place, but I'm afraid that will sooner or later cease working as a solution.
And I've rarely removed the sd card.
Mine did this in the middle of a nightly update. I had to physically hold the card in while I wiped it and restored to stock so that I could get it replaced under warranty. Called B&N on a Monday night a new refurb by Wednesday night. Great customer service!
This is why I do not recommend people put CM7 on the card and then keep swapping between stock and CM7. Eventually the slot will fail. Mine failed and I never remove the card.

I know it's an option but it would be great if you can write up a little up-to-date instructions and post in one of those HOW_TO thread such this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1303843
It would be great help for others.
I thought about that, but the how to restore to stock thread pretty well covers it other than you have to physically hold the card in during the entire process....

What do you mean by this? At first I thought you meant swapping as in taking out/putting in the sdcard all the time, but then you say mine failed and I never remove the card.
I have been running off the sdcard for a long time and only just recently (to update to 7.1) had a need to remove the card.
I could see constantly swapping the card out, but I don't see the effect of simply running off it.

I meant swapping the card in and out. In my case, it was more severe as the slot failed and I never touch the card. Just trying to emphasize the point that the slot is fragile.
So I have the ATRIX HD and I love it, but there's one thing that's annoying me. I can't get my sim card to stay in place within the slot, it doesn't click in like the microsd card does. I'm not sure if that's what's supposed to happen but I've just been closing the door to the slot area and it seem to stay in place and my phone radio works. Anyone have any ideas or pics they could post as to how theirs looks? Thanks!!!

The sales rep at the store had the same issue, but he eventually got it to lock in. I haven't removed it to try myself, but it looked like he had to push it in a little further than the microSD to make it work.
Edit: just tried it and I had to use a key (just what I had laying next to me) to get it to go in and click.
Sales rep had the same issue inserting my sim. She actually chipped her nail getting it in. Guess it was her first AHD

Same Problem
Me and my friend bought (both) ATRIX HDs on eBay.com (NEW IN BOX).. and when they arrived we faced the same problem, Micro SIMs does not Pop in correctly on both phones. Friend tried to force SIM to pop in and stay there but he broke spiral(or how it is called) inside and it will not Pop out without same help... On the other hand I can not Lock in my micro SIM and it pops out.. I have to force and close the cover so that SIM stays IN...
P.S. SIMs work on both phones..(even though it is not locked in my phone, but I am afraid not to break cover as sim pushes cover hard from inside

I was getting that error randomly, brought it to sprint and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with my phone or the SIM card but that I'm not the only one that's had the issue and if it happens again after taking it out and putting it back in that putting a piece of tape in there to hold the SIM card in has worked for other people

Lol, this whole time I didn't know you could remove the sim card. I removed it and cleaned it then put it back. I haven't had the error pop up since
I started getting the same error after I flashed the s-off firmware zip. I seem to get it when I lose signal.
I have a chance to get one of these phones but the seller says missing sim tray. Is there a way to just tape the sim to the terminals. What can i do? I have an iphone sim tray from a 3gs would that work? What is a compatible HTC sim tray i could use?

An iPhone 3gs Sim tray uses mini Sim and the first has a micro so that's out of the question. And tapping it in probably wouldn't be such a good idea considering there's allot of space and it would be moving all the time. There is a OEM light blue HTC first Sim tray http://m.ebay.com/itm/141123998651?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1
But in my opinion that's too much. The phone closest relating to our is the one mini
http://m.ebay.com/itm/151182582693?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1
Which is cheaper but there's no guarantee it would fit. Then there's the One & Nexus 4 which could also be good candidates for Sim tray swapping but there's no guarantee it would work
Hope I could help

keep track of cellular country. they have some of the best deals on getting any "contract" att phone off contract
Well i don't think the tray would be a big problem, I had a normal sim and I cut it to micro sim.
I cut it a little too much and I was afraid that it would be moving around in the sim tray but no worries.
My point is that you could probably even get it working with a makeshift tray or something

Look. I got my first, brand new, no contract, and in box for 150$. About two years ago I got my old lg for 120$ no contract. So I got a really good deal.
Cullularcountry.com is awesome. I'm sure an HTC first will pop up there sooner or later. If not get a atrix HD for like 170$ no contract brand new. Or an HTC one x or anything else with no problems.
As far as a Sim tray goes. Use thin pieces of wood that they use on like clarinets and other instruments. Quite thin and light. Like taking it and carving out a slot for the Sim? Not sure how good it would be but quite possible. Otherwise idk haven't come up with anymore ideas.
