Why did you decide to stay with the N4 after the N5 was released?

I actually bought the N5 before getting the N4. The fact is, I'm gonna get all of the Nexus devices (all new in box) just because I can. And I plan on using most of them.
But anyway, for those that aren't as Nexus obsessed as me, why did you stay with the N4? I know one answer I'm going to hear: "because it still does what I need". (fair enough)
Just interested in what people think.

Some of us are enthusiasts interested in other people's opinions and experiences.

I stayed with the N4 because I think it's more handy. It's a little smaller than the nexus 5 and since I have smaller hands I prefer the nexus 4. Also, the nexus 5's earpiece is weird (atleast for me)

I stayed because I didnt find mych difference and also Im in a condition that buying a new device will probably waste my time ! And also planing to move to google silver or iphone 6

Hey, I totally understand why someone would stay with the N4. To be honest, I have relatively small phone needs. My Moto G actually did everything I needed and more. (I gave it to my mom) While we're at it, I bet the Galaxy Nexus would be more than enough for most people. But some people just like having the best. Not that I need it, I just like having it.
No doubt the Nexus 4 is still a strong player in the market. It will have no problem running 5.0
I just wish there was a CandyKat rom for the N4.

I know, a lot of people whom I've told about the earpiece think of it as a weird reason. I, however, just didn't like the design of the phone. But hey, that's just me. I love the moto g and x. They're both very handy phones and pretty solid performers too!

my reason :
- I got my N4 cheap (got $100 discount when I bought it).
- screen density is more than enough for my poor eyes. (tell you the truth I really can tell differences between 415ppi vs 318ppi).
- CPU sector, for me myself my nexus 4 is already fast enough. I mean this is a phone not a laptop/pc, I don't need huge clock speed or ram to play games.

I haven't owned a Moto X, but I know all about it. I bought the Moto G and was very happy with it. My tech-ego got in the way and told me I need a Nexus 5. I don't regret it one bit.

Why did you decide to stay with the N4 after the N5 was released?
I guess because not everyone is as independently wealthy as you. Geez, I just bought the thing only a year and a half ago. Assuming that someone keeps making OS updates for this phone on this forum to keep up with security updates, I will keep it for around the same time-frame as I refresh my main desktop computer, about 5 to 7 years. Heck, my older second desktop computer is 11 years old and runs various versions of Linux as well as XP just fine (Although I disabled XP because it was finally discontinued.) I understand it is the constantly changing hardware that forces Google to very quickly stop supporting OS upgrades on older devices (really just an excuse to sell more devices), but it is really ridiculous that my Nexus 4 will shortly become obsolete by Google's standards, unlike Microsoft who supports their operating systems for a very reasonable amount of time.

I stayed with my Nexus 4 because Nexus 5 didn't offer a significant difference in performance. I was able to compare that side by side, and the performance of my Nexus 4 was just fast as Nexus 5. So i saw no point in change.
As i'm a non gamer guy, i think Nexus 5 will perform better games than Nexus 4, but i really don't play much.
Personally speaking, changing phone every year (some people always want to stay on fashion), seems to me like throwing money away, i think it's better change of 2 in 2 years, then you'll notice more technology improvement.
Another situation, was when i saw the Nexus 5...i was totally disappointed with his design..i mean look at the Nexus 4...it has an amazing design, glass on the back, all seems to be in harmony.
In Nexus 5 it's just a phone...don't know...lack of personality, i guess....lol
Now, i'll be waiting for Nexus 6...let's see if it worth...

Most of the replies posted in the thread apply to me as well. Some additional thoughts that kept me away from the n5:
It feels better in my hands and the size was perfect. The main things I liked were the corners of the nexus 4 were more curved than the 5, and that the tapered edges of the n4 screen felt natural.
I also preferred the n4's "discrete" camera compared to the gigantic wart that's on the back of the n5.

I stayed because I won't jump to another phone until I see significant improvement in technology as nowadays it's just spec bumps. I think the 4th is more than enough to last for another 2 years. I'll probably change next year with the coming of L and 64bit phones and only if it really matters. Oh, and I'm not rich enough to change phone every year ?

My reason? Saving up my money for my masters degree studies.

I got the N4 on contract which isn't up until March next year.
Being a student I couldn't afford to buy it outright, and obviously couldn't afford to buy the N5 when it came out.
I will, however, be buying the Nexus 6 the moment it's released. I should have my student loan through by then.
Priorities, right?

I think the Nexus 4 is a gorgeous looking phone (I'm a sucker for the glitter back) and I like how the edges curve as well, it is a unique design. It's also one of the most comfortable device to grip. Lastly, the size of the screen and phone are very similar to the Moto X, which is the ideal size for me. I believe LG went with cheaper production cost with the N5. I originally sold my N4, but when Android L preview image was announced, I was dying to try it out, so I bought another N4. I'm not planning to sell it again (I hope), there is a charm about this device that I like.

I to am a nexus lover. I did buy a n5, I do use it as my daily phone for the most part. but I do occasionally use my n4 as my phone as well. actually, I use my n4 and n5 every day. my n4 I use daily as a WiFi device at work. and it is still a great device! but those that say that the n4 is on par with the n5 when it comes to speed, are just kidding themselves. sure, in the ui, its just as fast as my n5. heck, my gnex is as fast in the ui as my n5. but I'm not talking ui, as any phone(even my nexus s) can have a fast ui if you set it up right. I'm talking opening apps/process, and computing. the n5 blows my n4 away when it comes to apps opening, and the speed of actually computing. anyways, that doesn't take away from my n4, as I do love it as part of my family

I stayed because it wasn't that BIG of an upgrade from the N4 to be honest. Definitely getting the N6 whenever its announce/released.

I got the my Nexus 4 when Google put them on sale last year before the 5's release. I'm in the process of convincing the wife that I need (aka want) a Nexus 5.

Okay well. Right now i have the oneplus one. Its a great phone and i like it and all... But no android l support yet (no cm12s), my touch screen is going bad, support is eh... and im just wanting to buy something that has been improved over many years... And is reliable. opo is kinda new.. with a single device.
So i thought of the nexus 6. It looks and feels amazing (as i have held/saw one) scores really nice on benchmarks despite the quad hd display.
My opo currently has the bamboo back (swap cover) and its in perfect condition, should be worth a good amount, and i get paid soon. So now i am tempted to buy the nexus 6.
Afew questions.
Firstly, I am all about having fast/latest hardware, so here is where my concern comes in. Is this nexus 6 a first of a soon soc snapdragon 805? Because i remember when the nexus 5 was out, half a year later there was a much better soc snapdragon 801. I know the nexus 6 will be fast, but i am just thinking ahead..
Next, is $700+ (as i would get the 64gb one) worth it?.. Its a HUGE jump from the previous $400 32gb nexus 5.. I thought nexus devices were always going to be cheap.. I mean, a bigger screen, a better build quality and snapdragon 805.. that's about all.
Middle, Will it be worth alot by next year when the next nexus arrives? (for resale purposes)
And lastly, should i just go for the nexus 6? And stay in the nexus line.. Or wait for a snapdragon 810 model phone to release.. As 64bit is arriving this year.
PS: Is metro PCS supported?

Snapdragon 810 is just around the corner, the LG G Flex 2 will be using SD 810. You can have the best hardware possible but if the software is not optimized for it then that hardware is not fully utilized to its fullest potential. In my opinion, get a phone with good development support from the community, not a phone because it has better specifications.
The question of the N6 being "worth it" is subjective and no one can answer that but yourself. You posting a thread in here will attract people say "yeah its worth it, get it ASAP" because you're in Nexus territory but if you're in the OPO territory, they would say no because OPO has a better value. Both phones have its pros and cons, the decision of whether the "N6 is worth it" is not as black and white.
Will it be worth a lot? I don't predict the future, but it most likely will retain a large % of its value. Nexus 5 is still a popular phone and people are still buying them.
Should you go for the N6? I already answered this. I personally was using the OPO and switched to a N6, the OPO community is great but it was no where as good as the Nexus line of devices. Snapdragon 810, don't really care about it unless a Nexus has its name to it.
If development is something you care about when it comes to a phone, a Nexus won't disappoint.

Not going to lie though, the opo is a great value phone where the specifications don't compromise. It's a very hot phone and the development is pretty good as I've owned one. The development is better than some of the other non nexus devices.
Essentially you're paying to have a bigger screen and front facing speakers as well as a number of other features such as turbo charger.
But you're losing, notification led (can be enabled on n6), ips for a amoled, battery life.
Opo battery life is much better than n6 by 1 hour sot in my personal experience. I still prefer the n6, I love the big size phone and I can't see myself using a screen that isn't as wide.
Ultimately, the choice is up to you. My recommendation is go to a t mobile store and play with the demo. Although, the size isn't a problem once you've used the phone for week, you get used to it.

If you can wait for a device that you like (form factor, screen, brand) that has the 810 processor in it, I would wait for that. But if you want a phone this second then the Nexus 6 is a decent choice. With that being said you have a few things to consider.
1)Curved back - For some people this is a deal breaker. Don't ask me why it just is.
2)Large size- At a whopping 5.96" it is large in the average person's hand. I have large hands so this was actually fine for me.
3)Battery life- Because of the screen size the battery life isn't best in class. I will say that it is decent though. You can check threads with users posting their SOT. I on average get about 5.5-6 hours screen on time over the course of a day. (If I ever have time to use it that much.)
But with all those things considered there are a few benefits too, which I'm sure you've heard. When it all comes down to it if you are considering the Nexus 6 the other phone you might want to consider is the Note 4. It is close to the same screen size, same processor, and same battery size. I for one thought the Nexus 6 was the better option because of the Nexus phone support and that it has a bone-stock version of Android. I can't stand Samsung's bloatware.
TL;DR:If you want a phone right now it's a good choice. If you can wait a few months, wait a few months.

There's no point waiting for a few more months, just a couple months later. the Nexus 6 will be even better because the development will be more mature in terms of custom ROMs and kernels.
Going to a phone that is a non-Nexus will have less development and the software will be more bloated with carrier apps and manufacturer skins. Once you go to a Nexus, you stay a Nexus. If a user is wanting something that works outside of the box and doesn't care too much about development then by all means go to a non-Nexus but if you care about custom ROMs and kernels then Nexus devices are the way to go.

I came from a G3 and before that a Note 3
. the Nexus 6 is by far my favorite phone. The development for it is far beyond any other device I have seen, we have kernels, ROMs and everything in between.
The size isn't bad in fact I really like how big it is. It only took a day or two to get used to. Note when I use my wife's Moto X 2014 or S5 its like looking at a iPhone 4. While here may be other devices out there shortly with the SD810 its not going to be as good without devs working on making it better. I had the G3 F460S which had the SD805 and it was much slower than the Nexus with the same processor. LG didn't optimize the chip set well enough to make it worth the upgrade over the regular G3. My antutu score with it was ~46K which is the same as the Moto X that my wife has which is 100% stock. While my G3 was rooted and tweaked with some mods at the time.
The AMOLED display looks great compared to a LCD and its very responsive.
It boils down to preference and I love my Nexus and will buy the next one as well.

Nexus phones aren't the end all be all. Usually they have the most developer support but buying something just because it's a Nexus branded phone sounds an awful lot like those "Fruit" buying fanboys that will buy anything their cult favorite company puts out.

i would also add that battery life is the most subjective issue. it literally depends on how you use the phone. if you're playing games or generally playing around with your phone, your battery life will suck. i use mine as a phone and tool for work and music in the gym and i get 2+ days of use.

If you like to tinker and have the time to spend doing so, the Nexus is the obvious choice. If on the other hand you spend more time doing things, working, recreation, socializing, then another phone will probably suit you better. Unfortunately this was my first Nexus device, and I got it thinking that it would be great to have a phone without all the carrier bloat. After getting it I found that many things I've come to consider standard in a phone, settings, options, etc. are sadly not present and probably will be in time with tinkering and trial and error, but I no longer have the time nor the patience to experiment on a device that I paid a large premium for that just seems to not only be crippled by sloppy software but also with possible hardware inconsistencies. I am lucky that I can jump any time I want and probably will here as soon as more devices come to market. But one thing the Nexus will do for you is help you to appreciate the care that other manufacturers put into their devices to support many features and options that a pure android device does not. So, with that in mind, make your won decision and live with it.

IMO, it's overpriced based on the quality of screen and some parts they used + poor QC.

Purchased N6 but requesting return... Good decision?

​​I'm coming from n5 and really wanted to upgrade to n6p until I saw the price! This is one of reasons I didn't upgrade to n6 when it was released last year, the other being that it seemed too big!...
I recently purchased n6 64gb for about £200 from rakuten (£200 as got £80 worth of points)... I'm a tinkerer and love timely updates to OS when Google releases new versions and hence why I really wanted you stay with nexus, plus the fact that there's more development for nexus devices than any other devices...
I've requested a return but not received the RMA yet... I was probably going to stay with n5 until n6p prices come down or buy either moto x style or g4 whichever received timely Android 6 update...
Any advice / suggestions welcome ? Am I going to regret sending n6 back especially considering the price (my main reason for sending back is the size... Seems like a spade in my hand and I've had a look and no other manufacturer has released such a ginormous phone recently... Even Google played safe this time with 5.7")...same as note 5!...
Also, as current owners of n6 what would you say about the size? Have you learnt to live with it or do you love the size that any smaller you would find hard to accept?

ginormous.. its all related to how you personally see the world. i had a n5, bought a n6, grabbed my n5 3 days later and it felt way to small. i im not a big person. im 5'7", with medium small hands. and the n6 feels so perfect in size.

I love my n6. I will get the n6p for no reason when it goes down in price. My n6 was 300. Oh yea I will be giving it to my sister and keeping the n6p. I would keep the n6 if I was you. For the reason that there is not one phone out there like it. This phone is so unlocked unblocked. You can never stop doing so much to it. Hopefully n6p is as equal.

I had a nexus 6 then I jumped to an S6 then Note 5 and now I'm back to a Nexus 6 if that tell you anything.

N6 was only "Too big" for about 2 hours. Now it feels so normal I think all other phones are to small. But I do think that n6 is the maximum size phone for me.

I came from a N5 about 2 weeks ago. Always felt the N6 was too big, but after the recent price drops on it at Amazon I bought one... 2 days later I got used to it fully and now love the size. Even my wife who is tiny, is starting to like the size of the phone. I loved the N5 but at this point I feel the N5 is just too small now. I love the N6. But I get that the N6 is not for everyone.

I've used the N6 off and on since February, and I still feel it's to big, sane as the Xperia z ultra I had. Note 4 was a better size, though somewhat awkward to hold for me. My bit to small, but i I'm switching back to it when ever my brother sends it back to me. I was going to get the N6P but I think I'll wait a bit, maybe get the Xperia Z5P.

Similar but not exactly same... Note 4 about 5mm+ smaller in length and width and does not feel as big as n6 (I purchased note 4 about 6 months ago and it turned out to be fake so sent it back to fleebay seller!)...

RMA paperwork has come - decision time!!!!!

I am get used to the N6 size in just a few days, came from N5.
And now, I cannot have phone with smaller screen size.
5.7" is OK, but N6P is ridiculously expensive right now. So, I am holding not to upgrade. Besides, N6 is still decent, great performance, great battery life (even better with Android 6.0)!

the 6p is bigger with a smaller screen...sweetspot?

Right I think I'm keeping the phone but before I start messing about with it I need to know what to check to ensure I don't have a faulty phone or refurbished unit sold as new as I've read in a few places...

well i recently bought the Nexus 6, and i love it to bits.
i always was a Sammy fan but i got sick of the source codes not being released for the Exynos models of theirs... and their latest Phones s6 etc. are kind of locked completely so i made a jump to the Nexus 6 from my Note 4 which i still have,
and damn even though the Nexus 6 is bigger it feels so much better than my Note 4, and the bigger plus point is the Custom Rom section it got loads of Roms.
i even think that it looks way way better than the new Nexus 6p , it depends on you and your wallet in the end though.
i would suggest keeping your current Nexus 6 simply because it is a beautiful beast , it rocks.
my only minus poiint is that the battery is abit disappointing .

and damn even though the Nexus 6 is bigger it feels so much better than my Note 4, and the bigger plus point is the Custom Rom section it got loads of Roms.
i even think that it looks way way better than the new Nexus 6p , it depends on you and your wallet in the end though.
i would suggest keeping your current Nexus 6 simply because it is a beautiful beast , it rocks.
my only minus poiint is that the battery is abit disappointing .

Thanks - Just like you I was a big Sammy fan until I tried a Nexus 4 and instantly loved the speed and experience...and not long after decided to purchase Nexus 5 which i've nearly had for two years and still loving it...but wanted a change!
I was going to give Sammy another go with either S6 or Note 4 until I saw their ridiculous prices and lack of memory expansion not to mention swappable battery (though this would not bother me if the manufacturers use a decent size battery!)...and thought nah...Sod Samsung for their arrogance, they wont get my custom!

Is the Nexus 6 a good buy?

I just grabbed a 32GB Midnight Blue Nexus 6 from Amazon for $250, and it should be here in a couple of days. It was kind of an impulse buy, so the next day did some research and saw a bunch of problems people had with it. Things like expanding battery popping off the back, bad battery life, the screen burning in (AMOLED), screens cracking/breaking randomly, and other such things. Thing is, the phone came out a year ago, and I wanted to know if Motorola/Google has made new models to fix these or any other problems, and if so, my chances of getting a good or bad one. If it matters , Amazon was selling it directly, not through a third party. Before I ordered the Nexus 6 I had a Moto G (2015) 2gb/16gb on the way, so I have to decide between these two.
Side Note: If anybody knows of a good case, please let me know.

The phone has zero problems. Don't read into the few people with issues when the phone was first released. Let's put it this way, the nexus 6 is so good I returned a nexus 6p even with the marginally better camera. Root, rom, kernel this beast and let it fly. It's an amazing phone. Last true moto quality phone before lenovo acquired them.

I paid more than twice that amount a year ago for mine and I still haven't found a replacement that doesn't feel like a step sideways. I've been very happy with zero issues.
I've tried a few cases and always come back to my Ringke Fusion.

Nexus is a nice one especially when it's on sale now. The only one thing i want to complain is the low screen brightness

It's still an excellent buy. With Marshmallow, battery life improved for me which was the only negative point of Nexus. I see this beast holding up well going into 2016 and possibly even longer

With the price sales, it's a great buy!

I paid $489 last May and don't regret it one bit. It will be a fast, awesome phone for a long time.

I keep coming back to the Nexus 5

I'm on my 5th N5 since early 2014. I really have a soft spot for this phone. I currently use a Nexus 6 and love the heck out of it, but there are times when I want something a little more pocketable like during summer when I'm at the amusement park or working out. Plus, by using the N5 for a good portion of the summer, my N6 will get a lot less wear and tear and last longer. I don't plan on getting a new phone until this years Nexus is half price or so sometime in late 2017. So I need both the N5 and N6 to last until then.
The only thing is I can't find a red one that is reasonably priced. So I bought a black 32gb new for $159 free shipping. Not bad I guess. Maybe I'll just get a red skin for it. But I'm happy to own yet another N5. To me, still a really good phone.

Same here. Just came back today after deciding to give my N5X a rest until Android N comes out. I've had the N6, N6P, and currently the N5X, but I must admit I've always preferred the N5. Great build quality, PERFECT size, powerful processor, and gorgeous screen. The only thing I wish was better quality is the camera of course, but with the help of ProShot and Lightroom for Android I think I can manage. Long live the Nexus king!

I am using my 7th Nexus 5 from 2013 ! 3 of them broke 2 of them in Water and 1 of them had motherboard blewed! so basically NEXUS 5 has some Voodo Magic! which is irresistible! so!!!! Nexus 5 forever

I'm still on my first N5, been using it since summer '14. I started compiling AOSP earlier this year to use with xposed and without gapps. I put Elementalx on there too, undervolt it a little, and things have been pretty awesome. If I run the battery down all the way I can get up to around 4 hours SOT, but I don't usually use that much in a day.
Lately I've been thinking about how I'd like a slightly larger screen if the phone itself doesn't have to be a lot bigger too, but just about every new one that comes along has at least one or two glaring issues (which I guess the N5 isn't lacking either, but I digress). 1440p, giant bezel-enlarging shiny logos, tiny batteries that could be bigger if they actually made the outside big enough to contain the inside (STUPID, STUPID CAMERA HUMPS!), no support for plain AOSP, idiocy like 6GB of RAM, because Android is totally going to make use of that efficiently, right? The details are always a little different for each phone, but then almost none of them actually get software updates and thus aren't even really worth considering despite their flaws.
Anyhoo, here's hoping my battery holds up another year at least. I'm not super-optimistic about future prospects. I suppose, as I suggested earlier, the N5 has compromises of its own and I've made do quite well - indeed, I'm very happy with it. Maybe it won't be all bad in the end. All I know is my N5 has a lot of life left!

I am using my second nexus 5, the first (which I had from the first day it came out until February 2015) had the power button stucked. The remplacement one has the yellow-ish screen issue but it's OK.
More importantly, I switched to an iPhone 6s in February because my Nexus 5 couldn't keep it performance wise. Now that my iPhone is in the repair shop because of a shattered screen (my Nexus 5 screen is shattered too btw) I'm back on the Nexus 5 as a daily, but even with the iPhone as daily driver, I use the Nexus 5 everyday because I use it in my car as a tachometer, clock, coolant gauge with Torque app(I have the cheap type of car where none of these features come from factory). The fact that it's equipped with wireless charging makes it easy to put in the car with The Air Dock.
Like many of you said before, this phone has the perfect size, the screen is very pleasant to use, combined with the Nexus user experience it makes it hard switching to any other phone
My only complaint is that I'm forced to carry my oneplus powerbank when I use the Nexus 5 (terrible on screen and standby time).
Glad to see we're many to like this phone

I still have my original N5. It has been the best phone I have had. Only two problems the LED screen stopped working and the battery would not keep a charge. Once I replaced them both, phone is working like a charm.

It's been a little while since you posted this and you might have already bought a skin but you can buy the red back cover and replace it easily. I had a black Nexus 5 and decided to change it up by buying a white back cover. It was a pretty simple replacement procedure.

Yeah I've seen those, but I'm not into taking it apart even though it's relatively easy. I found a dbrand orange skin on ebay for $8 free shipping.

I assume VFM is "value for money"? Yes it is. You can buy one new for less than a Moto G, and is faster. For the most part, it still performs like a flagship (OK, camera not so much) and is a small fraction of the price. With custom roms you could use this phone easily for the next 3 years. Provided you are not a super heavy duty power user. But for most people it will be just fine.
My mother has the original Moto G, and I may just give her this phone after a while as an upgrade. The Nexus 5 will go down as one of the best values in cell history. I guarantee it will still be a very usable phone even 5 years from now.

I'm actually still using my N5, but I do have plans for changing it. I'll just wait a couple of months to see what Apple and Samsung have in store.
Since I've always used cases with mine it's almost new, and I was thinking to give it to my father so I can write him over whatsapp (he doesn't find smartphones practical but now I'm abroad), but I still don't know if I'll just buy him a new one and keep this one like you do

Same here, still have my first N5 from 2013. But this week my kids managed to bust the display (the glas has been broken for a year now) and it has weird artifacts on the screen now
But after considering all the alternatives out there, I'll probably get another N5 for the next years. I don't like the specs of the N5X and N6P. Even though N5 wont recieve official Android 7 updates anymore, I guess it could still work out with Cyanogenmod 14.

I ended up getting a N5 a couple months back for $35 (no, it wasn't stolen) including the charger and the box because my N7's mainboard stopped working and I missed the nexus experience. Now I use it almost as much as my SGNote4, if not more, plus it makes a great companion to my N7 which I fixed myself a couple of days ago. The only problem I have with my N5 is the fact that nothing internet related comes through if the screen is off for too long.
