Just got us tab s2 . Love the weight less design..
I don't like having to hit the hardware home button on it though everytime I need to switch app or go back to home page.
Is there an option to get on screen software navigation buttons? Would prefer not to root actually.

Plenty of non root solutions for this just search play for soft keys.
I have a nav bar from Gravity Box (Xposed) but unfortunately the keys are only visible in portrait mode. My favorite soft key solution is called Button Savior and I also like LMT (available on XDA).

Look into ultimate dynamic navbar if you have xposed.

I remember using that a while ago, I'll check it out again. Thanks!
Use GMD Gesture Control. Much better than any soft or hard keys.

According to your sig your running MM? I'm on LP 5.1.1 and having issues finding a navbar that displays correctly in landscape only.. Very frustrating as that is one of the main reasons I rooted. MM is not available for my T810 yet.... Any suggestions?

+1 gravity box has the option to get it.

once installed you can download gravity box from the xposed framework app.
Wow....that's cool! I added the menu key, lowered the height of the nav bar, and changed the color of the icons....it doesn't even necessarily make it better, but I just love that I CAN!!!

GravityBox is awesome, isn't it? Do you play a lot of games? I made a guide to set up expanded desktop + pie controls so you can play all games in fullscreen with no navbar Check it out- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554590

I don't play games much, but I have actually read that post of yours before when reading about GravityBox. Cool stuff! I will probably eventually do it just to do it.
Is anyone able to get long press recent button remapping to work? I could only remap the recent button to something else, but can't remap the long press function.
Could a very kind themer/dev please tell me how to swap my back and recents softkeys. I hold the phone with my right hand and i use 'back' a lot more than i use 'recents' so i have to constantly stretch over with my thumb and i have nearly dropped the phone a few times.
i am on .681 so gravity box is no longer a solution as it seems to be incompatible for the time being. i also find solutions like LMT and apps that hide the navbar and replace it with their own to be clunky.and buggy. is there a way to do it by editing framework?
thanks in advance everyone.

brilliant. didnt realise GB had been updated. thanks. confirmed working.
Hi all! I would like to know how to enable the capacitive keys on the s3 mini with cyanogenmod 11 (KitKat). it's a bit annoying using the navigation bar (qemu.hw.mainkeys=0).
they worked with the samsung firmware e they blink for 5-6 secs after boot.
(otherwise I would like to reduce the navigation bar)
I've also notice that I don't have this file: sec_touchkey.kl under /system/usr/keylayout
Thanks for the help.

You can also enable them with Gravity box xposed module & change the size too Or use carbon rom, it has a switch for navigation bar & size.

Don't understand you very well (nav bar buttons or physical buttons!?), anyway to change their behaviour go to, system settings-buttons & choose what function you want for them.

no....the don't work at all!!! i want their functions.
The only way to emulate them is the navigation bar but it was too big (with the GB I've resized it).
I wish someone tell me how to enable this buttons that worked with the original firmware.
I already told you in the previous posts how to change their functions & how to disable or change the backlight.
I am also having this problem and there is no option in settings to enable/disable this buttons. Like edoz90 said, the buttons worked perfectly on the stock rom.
So usually I can add qumu.hw.mainkeys=0 on the build prop, or download softkey enabler app and it usually adds soft keys after a reboot. But now if I do EITHER of those, it just says system ui crashed and I gotta press ok and then a second later it pops up again. and again.
I added soft keys on my S4, S5 and my M7 before and I never ran into this. Does anyone else have any solutions? I don't really like those pop up types, I like the stock android soft keys.
whats wrong with the soft keys that are already on the phone?

I installed it and can't even enable it. It says it cannot open it on the Note 4
That's not good news. I was planning on upgrading to the note 4 soon. Developer may have to update the module. Sorry it didn't work.

I tried on Dynamic Kat and Hyperdrive roms and still had the same problem =( I actually like using soft keys because I feel like the hard keys are harder to reach when using one hand.

Did you come up with a solution to enable softkeys? I'm in the same camp.
What about the built-in softkeys? Settings -> One-handed operation -> Side key panel?

I found GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys but I noticed a drop in my battery life ever since I started using it.
It can auto hide or keep it there forever but it does get in a way with some apps like when you try to text or type it's right on top of the space bar

Thanks for the suggestion. It is now showing Android 5.0 symbols after I unistalled the app. Weird. I'll show you a screenshot.
I could not figure out how to enable soft keys and after uninstaling app the Android 5.0 soft keys showed up. Really weird.

Is it working? and what launcher are you using?
I would love this too. I like having a little bit of bezel at the bottom that I can hold (without hitting buttons), but the Note's capacitive keys are just in the way. I don't mind the Home button and would leave that enabled (maybe bound to something else if possible). Another reason is that I'm left-handed and HATE the "back" button being on the right side instead of left (which I'm used to since all of my previous devices were set up like this -- Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012), Moto X (2013), Nexus 7 (v2), and LG G2 w/modded keys).
Lastly, I really like adding additional navring options besides the built-in Google Now shortcut. There must be a way to get the default Android on screen keys with root and xposed, right? I hope someone figures it out!

Were you able to fix the problem of it overlapping the keyboard?
Hi users.
Does anyone has an idea how to change the menu button on the navigation bar with the recent apps button??
Tried g2tweaksbox and when I enter the sub menu in settings to change the layout the settings app gives fc.
Anyone has any other idea or solution to change that button?
Thanks.
Sent using my GFlexing phone ? ?
Not a total solution, but I don't use the softkeys.... I use pie controls. They stay hidden until you swipe from the bottom , left or right screen sides. With it you can have any button combos, color, size or actions.
Works awesome. Assuming your rooted and use xposed

You need Root permissions, besides the Xposed and module Xstana, next run Xstana and restart phone to changer, I have it installed on my LGL23 and working perfectly

Xstana module only themes your navigation bar and I need to replace the menu button not to theme it.
