N910T3 Differences? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tmobile sent me out a replacement NOTE4 which is the n910t3 and it seems to be a bit different than the n910t. The phone seems to weigh slightly more, and it came with the latest update pre installed. Rooting this phone and getting CMremix back on here was a small challenge. Does anyone know what the differences in the n910t and the n910t3 actually are? I know that you have an oem unlock option on the n910t3 in the development section that you have to click before rooting, so I am assuming the bootloader has been locked down more securely.

I believe the only difference is that it comes preloaded with 5.0.1 or 5.1.1. So you can't rollback to kitkat.

Question on T-Mobile note 4 purchase

Haven't had a note in a while and thinking about picking up a note 4. I am with T-Mobile and would purchase the T-Mobile version, I read about different variants and just wanted to make sure they could all be rooted, custom recovery and flashed without issue. In some of the threads here when people have issues, others ask what variant, etc.
Thanks

Get the sm-n910t (t-mobile version). Very mod friendly.

The T-Mobile version comes with the bootloader unlocked out of the box. You can do whatever you want with/to it.
I just purchase a T-Mobile Note 4 on 11/17/15 from one of their store. The model that I got is the SM-N910T3 and not SM-N910T. It comes with Android 5.1.1 installed instead of 4.4.4. You will probably end up with this model. Does anyone know if this variant is still bootloader unlocked? I also read that the TW 5.1.1 rom has root blocking enabled by Samsung, can anyone recommend a custom kernel that can override this to prevent a bootloop?
T is better for ROM Support VS. T3. T3 may be smooother

You want the T version for more ROM compatibility. The T3 version can be rooted and has a few ROMS but supposedly Samsung changed something in the phone so it has alot less ROM support. It does have root and 1 or 2 good ROM's though.
Root for T3
More info on T3

Did you ever end up buying this phone? I have been thinking about picking up a used one on Swappa to use as my daily driver until Samsung releases the S8 or Note 8. I currently have a LG V10 and even though it has an unlocked bootloater and root, there is zero ROM development for it due to issues with LG firmware/drivers.

Is there a root for a att galaxy s5 smg 900a version 5.0 lollipop????

hey everyone i just started an account and navigating the forum is pretty hard, is there a way to root a galaxy s5 for att smg 900a VERSION 5.0 LOLLIPOP? i would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me out. Thanks!
If you got the phone with lollipop installed, unfortunately there is no active rooting method.

I have the AT&T S5 running Lollipop.
I don't recall - but I *think* I got this device before Lollipop was released. I got the device in May'14. My research shows that Lollipop came out Nov'14.
So - if I got the device with the prior release - but it's running Lollipop now - is there a way to root it?
Thanks.
No I have the same problem. I have been waiting for months now

If you took the lollipop OTA then no, there is still no active root available.

If you are on the official 5.0+ ota, through any means other than the prerooted flashfire method, there is no known way to downgrade, root, etc. If you flashed the ota for lollipop, bought your phone and it had lollipop, or took the ota, and it is an att s5 (G900A) then it is not, at the time of me posting this, possible to downgrade to KitKat or root or anything of the sort.

Does anyone have the firmware for the lollipop on s5 active?
Does anyone know if models of S5 being sold as new now are being released with lollipop or kitkat preinstalled?
Is there a way to know by serial number on the box?
The reason I am asking is I just purchased one online a few days ago on the daily steals website has it was advertised As new and unlocked. I did not realize being that I am from Canada that this was a lockdown AT&T model. It is scheduled to arrive in the next day or so and I would prefer not to open the box and affect my ability to return it without restocking fee if it already comes with lollipop on it. Hi I'm less concerned about achieving root and more concerned about having the ability to native flea tether on my plan back here in Canada.
Also if it did come with lollipop firmware preinstalled, is there a way to enable native tethering on the phone if root is not achievable?

I'm not sure either I would just see if it is a 5.0 and below and just achieve root its so simple then you flash native tethering it just sounds like that would be the easiest way
5.0 and below or just kit Kat?

Need help rooting galaxy s6

Okay so I have the AT&T version of the galaxy s6 obviously and from what information I got it already it seems difficult to root this phone I've tried a few methods but they don't seem to work unless I'm doing something wrong I currently have service with Cricket Wireless but I'm using a AT&T galaxy s6 with that prevent me from rooting my phone any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance
I do not think root is currently possible for the latest (s6) versions of Android.
Correct. Depends on your software version whether it's rootable or not. If you are on 5.0.2 either OF3 or OF4, or any 5.1.1, there is currently no root available.

That spot that says android version 5.1.1. That's your answer. Not rootable.

****! Well can I at least tether my internet? And when exactly did the 5.1.1 update come out

Are people working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?

Are people still working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?
If yes, how's it going?
I had a G870F but sent it swimming on 20m deep for three weeks. Needless to say it didn't survive.
Found the G870A and thought it was a bargain, however . . .
Pretty much a lost cause, most devs have moved on.
So the answer is not so straight forward. The current v 5.1 and above for the AT&T phones are not currently rootable. If you find a used or remanufactured S5 or S5 Active with 4.2 you will be in luck. I just had a problem with my Active found a replacement on the most popular buying and selling web site for around $230. Just make sure it has not been updated. If the seller is advertising it as 4.2 and you get it with 5.0 they must take it back if it's not what was advertised. Hope this helps.
If you want an S5 to tinker with you should get a tmobile variant the SM-G900T, or the international SM-G900M since the active model is basically a carrier exclusive they dont have any international ones that im aware of.
I dont understand the question of OP
I used a popular search and found rooted firmwares for the 870A.
Several people who replied have in their sigs that they have a rooted s5 Active..... I would think that to mean the phone has been "cracked" and isn't a lost cause.

You could have rooted before 5.0. If you have the latest bootloader, it can't be done. That is why I suggested getting one that has pre 5.0 stock 4.4.2.

so its isn't the android version per say bu the bootloader that comes with it?
So one couldn't just flash a 5.0 firmware, is that what you're also saying?
pardon my ignorance, but when one flashes a firmware -- that wont impact the bootloader will it...
poop... i just got one of those and I'm all excited to get the att crap off there and see how much faster it gets... not to mention all the other things you can't run without root.... this ebay "deal" keeps getting worse....

When you update the firmware, it automatically updates the bootloader. Once that bootloader has been updated, it's locked down. No downgrading firmwares, rooting, or installing custom recoveries.

Yeah, that's basically what I gathered after a lot of research online.
Some claim it can be done but when trying the method/software, it doesn't work.
I just wanted to double check since there is a lot of expert knowledge in this forum.
One thing i've been thinking though (not that I can do it): how about picking the phone apart
and wiping/replacing the bootloader manually?

Well it's soldered to the board. You would need some highly specialized equipment to do it. Even then I'm not sure.

Is this the case with both the G900A and the G870A. I'm in the market for either one since they are going for just of $200 new on Ebay. Are both phones now locked down of is the Active more problematic?
Both are locked down. AT&T and Samsung are being jerks to us and not even letting us have a developer phone to try to use like Verizon had.

If you are looking to root, then buy one that still has Android v4.4.2. They are available you just have to look for them. Don't put the SIM card in until you root or it will auto update and you can't go back.

Nope can't because of locked bootloader. The best thing you could do is too root with towelroot and then flash safestrap and install a custom rom from there.

That is what I thought. What are the custom rom options? Is there a rooted marshmallow rom for the s5 i can install?
Also according to these articles it is possible:

You can look in Galaxy S5 Android Development.

Found out my NEW Note 4 I brought is on Android 5.1.1 (DOK2) - Should I return it?

I just brought a NEW T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and upon powering up the phone for the first time I found out the phone was on Android 5.1.1 (N910TUVU2DOK2).
Should I return this phone?
The reason I am considering returning this phone is because it is my understanding that the SM-N910T on Android 5.1.1 CANNOT do the following:
1. Cannot be rooted (partially or completely).
2. Cannot be downgraded to Android 4.4.4.
3. Cannot have any apps installed that would unlock the mobile hotspot feature without having to go through your carrier to pay extra.
Can anyone confirm if the above restrictions are correct?
I did the same thing in january..I was so damn excited about getting a N910T that I thought I could do whatever I wanted with and I didn't read up (well enough) on developement and ended up with DOK2. It is true you can't downgrade....as of right now....but I have never had any issue at all with root or apps that require root. As far as the the hotsppt mod is concerned, I can't help too much with that info because b I use straight talk...but i think it's a hit or miss situation...I think the two most popular roms for our phones (Tekhds and Overdrives) have the mod built in but I'm not 100% sure.. but I think the only way you could get one without DOK2 would be used

YES! 5.1.1 CAN be rooted. Just download the newest version of CF-Auto-Root. Do NOT use the one in the thread above/ below. It's outdated. Search that thread however to find others who HAVE rooted their 5.1.1, like me.

I don't even think I need 6GB, 4GB is plenty and I'm sure the 6GB issue will be fixed and knowing that Oxygen OS is opened and the device has unlocked Bootloader it beats waiting for Note 4 to get custom MM rom.
