Model: XT1097

Rooted: NO
rooted via kingroot: NO
tried desktop and apk: APK.
:crying:
Kingroot touts they are the first to root 5.1 , anyone tried it out yet? I am trying it while i type, will report back
Xt1096 non-rooted
Ota 5.1
Locked bootloader
Tried 4 times app and failed. no desktop try because this is useless.. We are screwed up.
I just got T810 with 9.7" screen. It has Android 5.0.2
Love it so far but never had Samsung device before, so not sure about OS updates and rooting.
It just downloaded a software update (289 MB) but I did not install it yet.
Will this bring device to 5.1.1? Are there any downsides to updating? Can I roll back to 5.0.2? On my Moto X phone OS roll back generally is not possible.
Both 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 can be rooted, correct? Is there any advantage of rooting 5.0.2 and then updating to 5.1.1 vs first updating to 5.1.1 and then rooting?
And if I root - there is no way to "unroot" because KNOX will be tripped and it will also void my warranty. Did I get this right?
Search for posts on kingroot.
is there any root? If so, can you do it wirelessly?
Currently there is no root for anything above OE2, sorry.
Development for this device has pretty much halted as far as I can tell.
Hey guys,
I have to root a G890A for a friend to remove all the at&t crap and samsung/google bloatware but Im not sure whether or not I should upgrade to 5.1.1 first or not?
Which Version does run better overall?
The phone is sim-unlocked as far as I can tell, would rooting and/or flashing 5.1.1 affect that unlock?

Best version for me is is 6.0.1 because of the great battery life and the Marshmallow Android. However 5.0.2 had the same battery life unlike 5.1.1 where it was terrible.
The rooting/flashing will affect the unlock. As to the root for 5.0.2 - you can read how to do it here (the second page has the downloadable files):

Yes, 5.1.1. and 6.0.1 are not rootable at the moment. Only 5.0.2. The link I gave you states that 5.1.1 can be rooted too but it's actually some kind of service mode which is no good and as soon as you flash back the stock 5.1.1 there's no more root.

So I rooted that thing now... throught that the recovery was actually a custom recovery but it just seems to be stock recovery with root permission.
Is there TWRP or CWM recovery out for the G890A somewhere? Would love to take a backup before I start the debloating.

ok, i see. thanks for your help!
So....did you root it?
Did it work?
Didn't wok for me. What am I doing wrong?
Is there another, easier way to root?
Basically, all I really want is to flash Lineage OS 14.1. That's the end goal.
So far, I've successfully unlocked the bootloader.
Firmware is 10.7.A.0.228 Lollipop 5.1.1
