So I am a professional developer at a company nothing to do with the mobile market.
In my spare time I am planning on learning android / playing around with it and publishing applications that I have written for myself that I find useful.
Are there any resources that describe how to setup a company etc for any payments received from Google Marketplace? I am not expecting to make any money at all, however there is a 0.000000001% chance that if I end the year with a small amount to reap that I don't want the tax man jumping down my throat and sending me to jail.
I am UK (England) based. I expect to release 90% of code that I do release as Open Source / Free, on the other hand there is occasionally the opportunity that only a fool would not turn down to make some financial gain even if I know its going to be slight.
Please don't flame about OSS / prop. I am asking a honest question if there is a how to guide anywhere or people can give there experiences.
(I have not signed up as developer yet so its possible that inside googles internals there is this information but quick google doesnt give me anything and I cannot find anything on the boards.)
Many thanks in advance.
Not sure but I'm sure you could just get a standard business license from your state or province and that should cover you till you make some real money. Then you could think about incorperating or going LLC.
I was reading an article today about the hottest jobs in IT for 2012 and "Mobile Application Developer" was one of the 3 careers listed as a hot field.
Over the past decade I have felt that IT Development has been a tough job market because of all the global outsourcing.
I realize there are many devs in this forum, some do it as a hobby, some create apps to sell through Android Market etc for either money or ad revenue, and some work at the enterprise level and are also involved here for hobby or for other business/personal reasons
When I am thinking career in Android Dev I am thinking enterprise level... working in corporate supporting/developing mobile apps for employee/client/customer productivity, to basically improve business processes

I created this post hoping to get some feedback from devs... on their opinion of mobile application dev as a career prospect - would you recommend it to someone in college, someone later in their career etc?
Thanks.
I am applying to college and I want to make an app/game to beef my application and profile.
Anyone willing to teach me the deal?
I am a high school student so I will be able to play zero to minimum-ish money
Udacity has some free basic courses where you can learn a bit about java and actually make your own apps using android studio. They also have a range of nanodegree courses where you have to pay to enroll, prices vary.
I am an IT professional but I am also doing some volunteer work to fix IT gadgets at Restart Party, organised by the Restart Project, a community repair skill share workshop event in London.
At the moment, Restart Party focuses upon physical repairs, such as a battery and broken screen replacement for mobile devices, however, in order to use their devices longer, it is essential to understand the importance of Custom Roms in general.
The Restart Project will organise the Fixfest, a global gathering for community repair, this weekend (6/10 to 8/10) in London. (sorry for a short notice)

I was asked to facilitate to organise “unconference session” / workshop on October 7th. I am going to organise “Extending Mobile Phone life with Open-source Android OS” (NB, I don’t use the term “custom rom” here as the majority of people may not understand what it is, The session would be for only 45 min. But this session would be very introductory one to new people. I want to hands on sessions as much as possible. (a quick demonstration, even installation etc with various devices.)
I am wondering if some people at XDA in London on this Saturday would join my workshop/session. I am a still new to this custom rom world, any experienced flash specialists will be welcome . I prefer not a flashy brand new phone for demonstration as we encourage using the existing devices. (lol) I will bring Oneplus One,and Nexus7 (2013). Another restart volunteer will bring Moto 4 (2014)
Anybody who would be interest, please contact me directly. Even you are not able to attend this session but interested in Restart Party, please also contact me. We might be able to organise Flashing Rom Restart party or something in the future.
This would be an opportunity for general public to understand developers community‘s wonderful contributions towards existing Android devices.
Last not least, you guys are so great! Thank you so much. Flashing a device offers a new life to the old device, this is not just technical thing but also spiritual, psychological thing as well. This was my first feeling when I have installed a custom Rom. I was so amazed.
Happy hacking
Toshi

Hey everyone, my name is Anthony Hrdlicka and I'm from the U.S. I was born in Chicago, Illinois, however I'm currently residing in Hot Springs, Arkansas and I was in the U.S. Army for 2 and a half years learning Field Artillery Communications (my MOS specifically was 13D, Field Artillery Automated Tactical Data System Specialist, however I can't go into the specifics of my job or what I did specifically in the army as that would go against the protocols that the U.S. Army put in place even though I'm now a retired veteran). I am a passion and dedicated gamer at heart and I have love for technology (even if I have dedication for what the government considers illegal in their eyes) beyond a lot of others. I'm 27 years old right now and I was born June 25, 1995. Despite being a veteran, I regret ever having been in the military and I regret to say that even though it's true. During those two and a half years, I was treated like complete ... and my chain of command had absolutely no respect for me whatsoever or my feelings, so I have negative feelings regarding government whatsoever and I've begun to have a different outlook regarding the governments that are currently in control of us. I believe that many things that we have to pay for should in our reality actually be free, however our systems in control are money hungry and power hungry beyond our limitations. For example, does anyone remember the time when Xbox Live had silver status and you could still play Multiplayer online with your friends free of charge? Well, now you have to pay for Xbox Live Gold to even play online multiplayer games, which is ridiculous in my opinion. I am now dedicating majority of my time and research to finding ways to make some of the things we have to pay for free for the people that it should be free for, meaning all of the citizens across all nations and countries (even if the government and law enforcement doesn't like it, but ... what they say and how they treat the people they're supposed to help and put above themselves), especially for those of us that can't afford to waste money on things since our cost of living has begun to become absurdly overpriced and making it difficult for us to keep a roof over our heads (family's, friend's, and even just ours alone). If anyone needs help at any point in time regarding electronics and electronic tampering, please feel free to message me or even ask me any questions if anyone needs help and I'll gladly be of service any day of the year, 24/7.

@Juggaloz6859 We'd prefer if you provide your support publicly on XDA instead of a secret and private support by private message. This is the only way that information is shared and the whole community benefits. We'd appreciate if you're able to follow XDA's stance. Thanks for your cooperation.
Second, I removed the inappropriate language from your post that you used at two occasions. XDA is a website for users of all ages! I guess that already says it all but nevertheless I suggest that you review the XDA Forum Rules, to which you agreed to adhere when you registered on this private website minutes ago, and currently the best might be to initially focus on rules no. 2, no. 6 and no. 13. Thanks very much for your cooperation.
