Hey, I am trying to revert my HTC desire 510 to stock, i do not have a backup. I found files on the htcdev.com and thought they were Roms (easy catch). Unfortunately they are not. I don't even know what to do with these files in order to get my ROM in place.
My device is a 64bit, was running UK Vodafone rom. i need to get that back on. Need help here...
That up there, old...... I got the solution, thanks to the developers that helped me. Am now posting the links here. Choose which your phone is based on. The link includes different RUU's, not only that of Vodafone.
https://mega.nz/#fm/95YHUAQT
i have been told that the upper link doesnt work, try this...... https://mega.co.nz/#F!3Zo10Zya!-NbM_2RWWecFlc5mH9bLbA
I did not upload anything, so i will not take credit for that job. On the other hand, i will take credit for widely sharing. (Easy Find)
Best way of downloading is having the Mega downloader app on your computer.
Tested and approved for share. I thank all the developers out there. FYI, the RUU's do not exist on the htc.com/uk site. I do not know why. Those of x86 have theres on htc.com/us site.
Hit THanks
ADDITION
The HTC Desire 510 x64 Rom has been debloated, thanx to the developers that have been working on this.

HOW TO INSTALL:
What is changed?
Not much is changed.
Bellow are the app replacements I made:
1. Sense Home ---> NOVA Launcher
2. Sense Messages ---> Google Messages (Material Design)
3. Sense Calculator ---> Xlythe Calculator (Material Design)
4. Sense Calendar ---> Google Calendar (Material Design)
5. Sense Clock ---> Google Clock (Material Design)
6. Sense File Manager ---> ES File Explorer
7. Sense Weather ---> AccuWeather
4. Sense Keyboard ---> Google Keyboard
He removed a lot of HTCs and Google’s useless apps and other things, that are taking up space and resources.
From Google apps you have left:
1. Google Play Store
2. Google Chrome
3. Google Play Games
4. Google Drive
4. YouTube
5. All other background apps and services that are required for the Google apps to function properly.
From HTC apps you have left:
1. Camera app
2. FM Radio
3. Gallery (I couldn't find a decent replacement)
4. Music
5. Photo Editor
6. LockScreen
He removed the HTC Browser, Zoe, E-mail and other useless stuff from HTC.
He has included:
1. Clean Master Lite - It's much faster than the full blown app and gets the job done. Lots of people hate it but it works like a charm on this device.
2. DiskInfo - With this little app you can see all of the partitions on your device. Regardless if you are S-ON or S-OFF.
3. Glim Lite - A set of beautiful Material design icons for NOVA launcher.
He didn't include an E-mail app because the Play Store is full of them and I couldn't choose. This choice is up to you.
How to install it?
First of all you need an unlocked bootloader with a TWRP - custom recovery installed on your device.
To unlock your bootloader go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/desi...e-510-t2910233. Follow that tutorial to get your bootloader unlocked. After a successful unlocking you'll need a custom recovery.
Download this file: https://dl.twrp.me/a11ul/twrp-3.0.2-0-a11ul.img. This is the latest TWRP recovery for our device. Now we need to flash this file on the device:
Before starting put the contents of the ZIP file on to your SD card. And make sure that it has this folder structure:
Code:
--SD CARD
--TWRP
--BACKUPS
--Your device serial number (The name of this folder should be the serial number of your device otherwise TWRP won't see the backups in this folder)
--2016-04-17--13-49-21_KTU84L_release-keys (Don't change this, I don't know what will happen if you do)
All you do is replace the downloaded backup with your backup, 1st delete your files..... DO NOT REPLACE THE FOLDERS, ONLY THE FILES IN THE LAST FOLDER
1. Power off your device by pulling the battery out and putting it in again.
2. Press the Volume Down and Power Buttons until you see the HBOOT screen.
3. Press the Power button again to enter Fastboot mode.
4. Connect your phone with your PC using an USB cable.
5. Now open your terminal (I'm using Ubuntu but it's same in Windows as well) and type:
Code:
fastboot devices
This will show you an output like this:
Code:
--your devices serial number-- fastboot
If it doesn't show you an output like that then you probably didn't install the drivers correctly or you have a faulty USB cable.
If your output is the same as above than we can move on.
This command will flash the TWRP recovery on your device:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /full/path/to/the/recovery.img
Example:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /home/denny/Downloads/twrp-3.0.2-0-a11ul.img
Now you have TWRP on your device.
To boot TWRP press the Power button to go back to the HBOOT screen and navigate to the RECOVERY option with the volume keys and again press the Power button. After a few seconds you'll see your new recovery.
Restoring the backup
First we need to wipe any potential data that will cause conflicts with the new system.
1. Tap on "Wipe"
2. Tap on "Advanced Wipe"
3. Select all but leave the Micro SDCard option unchecked.
4. Swipe the slider to wipe the data.
After that is complete press on the house button on the lower end of the screen.
Now we are going to restore the backup:
1. Tap on the "Restore" button.
2. At the lower left corner tap on "Select Storage" button.
3. Choose "Micro SDCard" option and press OK.
4. Now you should see the backup folder. Open it.
5. Select "Boot" and "System" and swipe to start the restoring process.
6. Press "Reboot System" after the restoring has finished.
After you setup you system, remove the battery again, launch in to recovery and flash this boot.img

Hey Zubagy. I have been searching for an RUU for vodaphone for ages!! Is this the stock?
Could you advice me on how to apply this after after rooting my device. Will this lock my carrier again. I am actually on a different carrier, but they can't detect tethering because I bought the phone from vodaphone.

Any time, yes... the version is 1.51.161.10. It doesnt lock the operator, your phone is just based on the Vodaphone make but you are able to use any operator. Iam in Uganda and i use the phone for Airtel. The Vodaphone part of it all is to jst show who the makers or promoters are in this case. But all that is Bloatware. I have updated my Blog and added the necessary links that you are intrested in, and how to install. (Debloated rom)
in this case am assuming you have x64 based HTC.
Sorry for the delay in the response this time, I went offline yesterday.
That rom is a '.exe'. this means you will have to ran it on ur windows computer and all u do, is insert the phone when you are asked to, and let the computer do the rest.
If you need further help, dont hesitate....especially when it comes to flashing the fdebloated version, the developer of that version is not replying, dont know why

Many thanks, you have been very helpful,
So all I have to do is download the Vofaphone ROM and run it on my computer after my phone is rooted? Do I need to make sure that boot loader is locked and any other precautions I should take? I wish to unroot the phone afterwards and leave it as the vodaphone version.

No, no need for relocking the boot loader, just go a head and insert your phone as it will tell you too Just make sure you have battery of around 50%+.
your wish will come through to unroot the phone, but trust me.....it is boring. the debloated rom is far much better when it comes to performance. the phone is actually smoother and you get space for other applications. What i did with my phone, i installed the debloated, added a memory card of 8gb, partitioned it so that i can push some apps to the phone..... but hey, anytym......You need more help..... dont hesitate.....will be right here.
hit thanx if this helped

Hi Zubaggy, I have just two more questions.
After I have opened the .exe file and installed the Vodaphone ROM on my phone, do I need to also install the 1.51.161.10 Kernel from the HTCdev website, or does the ROM have that inside it.?
Thanks

I have tried installing several times (vodaphone UK 1.51.161.7) and at first it gave me error 115 and then the next 3 times was stuck on 0/7 install for 30 minutes. I have rooted using dips root method but this ROM doesn't work. Can you help me?

When you are flashing a RUU, you need to unroot the phone, install the stock recovery and relock the bootloader before you start the install process. The errors above tell you that you haven't done something from the things I mentioned.

When you run the RUU the installer expects the phone to be in original shape. That is way it gives our errors when it detects a custom kernel or a custom recovery.
This is the stock kernel:
https://mega.nz/#!LQIDQZzK!pdmMgPrh5clCYWuyAczfzyIhKBFDyysYWAOLRhx0pZM
This is the stock recovery:
https://mega.nz/#!uMQ0ETpB!5YLSOjAHGfDMCrDHIN3smSTjPI35LcD1wSJf4BZ6Luc
Flash them using fastboot and after that relock the bootloader and try the RUU again.
If you have any questions please ask.
EDIT: You can relock the boot loader using the command: fastboot oem lock

Thanks Danny for your fast responses I have been responding to you in my thread but would like to keep it here.
Philz touch is installed on my system and I don't know how to remove it.
Which should I flash first the stock kernel or recovery.
Surely I can't use recovery while I have one already, what if I install the stock recovery and then I haven't got a back up file.
What commands do I need to enter in CMD to flash those files.
Thanks.

Hey there, I flashed my IS into a sense 3.0 gingerbread 2.3 ROM. It took me 3 days LMAO
I know that when I was doing it I needed all the help I could get.
If anyone wants to know how I did it to help you on your way than reply.
I will be happy to help.
Please note that I only know how to do what "I" did. I am not an expert in any way..and only know how to help with getting the **Virtuous Unity 1.27.0 Sense 3.0 based on Pyramid** onto your phone.
Happy Flashing!!! I am very happy with this ROM ... It is the best one out there taken from the official shipping release of HTC.

Ah, but how do you know it's the best one if it's the only one you've used?
Because it has many good reviews. It its the best one in terms of getting the sense 3.0 and gingerbread 2.3. Which is what the new HTC Sensation has. Also it is a shippping release which pretty much means that it is the real deal.
Ok, for reference, what did you do. Already S OFF and rooted. Does the new MOD have better battery performance?
I am on my way to work as of now and will copy and paste what I had done later. I am noticing right now that the battery is not the most optimal. But we will see. I flashed virtuous unity BTW. Sense 3.0 with 2.3 gingerbread

You need to S-OFF your phone (otherwise it wont work) This is the first step:
(1) GoHere...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XshvRmAcgm8 This is an awesome youtube video of how to S-OFF with AlpharevX
** After that you need to install the CWM recovery but first (instead of looking at alpharevX's difficult instruction) Do THIS:
(2) Go here(easy step)
This will give you instructions on downloading a Flasher. What that does is flash certain things onto your device while its plugged in.
**Once you have downloaded that, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=14693680 (only download the recovery image for Incredible S)
It is the 3rd step I do believe.
When you are done downloading it. Go into the file and grab the file called recovery (image file) and drag it to your "downloads" folder.
**Open up Android Flash 1.8 and plug in your device. Click on Recovery on the left hand side. It will prompt you to a folder (it wants you to open the Recovery image file I told you to place in "downloads") Either way....find that file!!
Click on the file and Android flasher will do the rest.
Im pretty sure it boots your screen for you but if it doesnt
YOU NOW HAVE CLOCKWORKMODE RECOVERY
To see if you successfully downloaded it:
** Power down your phone
**Press and hold the DOWN volume and POWER button
**Move the volume up and down keys to select "RECOVERY" it is second down I do believe
**Press the POWER button to select "Recovery"
**You will now be prompted to a screen witch is CMW recovery.
After that go to the "reboot" option.
(3) To ROOT your phone(last step)
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=14693680
Just follow thier instructions. Its pretty easy!
After that you will want to download this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1104765 It works the best with the flashing ROMS. If you feel comfortable downloading this recovery first than it is up to you. Like I said I downloaded the clockworkmode recovery first so that I can get the phone rooted via AlphaRev's instructions. Any questions???

So flashing the actual ROM wasn't a problem? I take it you don't have to S OFF the radio in order to flash a new radio with this ROM to get the best out of it?

No flashing the ROM isnt the problem. If you have to get a radio for the ROM than that is apparently the most trickiest part. Please do it with caution and read instructions carefully. You need to S-OFF to get a ROM...and I am pretty sure you need to ROOT to get a rom aswell. Sorry about the links..I have no idea why they are broken. I will try to find them.

Ok, for reference, what did you do. Already S OFF and rooted. Does the new MOD have better battery performance?

Are you running many apps, using auto sync and a live wallpaper? Really like what the stock ROM has to offer including the Sense, just want better battery performance which I suppose every smartphone owner wants in the end

If you like the stock ROM then I suggest Android Revolution HD. It's built from the IS stock release but with bloatware removed, optimised for better battery life and more customisable. Virtuous Unity ROM gets you Sense 3.0, but that comes with higher power demands thanks to all the extra fancy graphics and such.
Oh, and for reference, you don't necessarily need radio S-OFF to flash a new radio, but you do need to do it carefully as you can brick your phone if you don't follow the correct process exactly.
Thanks. I have been undecided on weather or not to flash ARHD. When you say carefully, do you mean following the his flashing procedure step by step, or are you refering to flashing the radio? Obviously want to flash the radio to get the most out of the ROM.
Yeah I mean follow instructions carefully. What I used was ask. Its not too difficult but you have to read. Go and Google sdk. Download it, u are going to have to retrieve your drivers for ur phone. But just follow the instructions on downloading sdk etc... I will put up a link of where I got it from. You just have to follow instructions that's all..and yes the radio is needed if you are upgrading to gingerbread when flashing a new rom.

ALL SHOULD SEE THIS FIRST PLEASE ....
*** unlocking bootloader from HTCDEV site is highly recommended for a permanent root solution***
1. enable usb debugging from settings - applications - development
2. plug phone to pc via usb cable - charge only
3. open extracted zip folder and click runme. thats all. (if experience any daemon hanging problems pls install htc sync and plug in phone so drivers are installed. once done delete htc sync and repeat root procedure)
PC will open a cmd screen with prompts that you need to follow. app does rest
4. After root is complete pls visit market and update SU app. once done root will be fully functional and eliminate any future FCs
5. Also as an extra tip you can install SU UPDATE fixer from market to update your binaries to 3.0
Software version 1.24.709.2 doesn't seem to be rootable via this method. Please try flashing another ruu from runnymede rom thread then attempt root again
Added V4 of the Doomlord Exploit as may be why XL was rooted without bootloader being unlocked.
well i relocked my bootloader and flashed ruu 1.05.404 then I used Doolord V4 to root my phone. This was succesful in permanently rooting my phone without unlocking my bootloader. This was not possible with V2 so if anyone wants to root without unlocking bootloader this is now possible using V4 of the Doomlord Exploit attached below. PLEASE NOTE THAT STILL NEED TO UNLOCK BOOTLOADER TO FLASH CUSTOM ROMS AND RECOVERY
If i Repeated ANY OF THE STEP BELOW WHICH I MENTIONED ABOVE PLEASE SEE IT THOROUGHLY FIRST THEN MOVE AHEAD
REST, SIT DOWN GRAB A COFFEE AND Read IT CAREFULLY.

.................................................
1. To Unlock BOOTLOADER
1.1 You Need to Unlock the BOOTLOADER
(You can get permanant root but you won't be able to put a custom rom on your phone, so if you only want root you don't need to unlock bootloader. You will need to use v4 from this post... http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1341127 ... Cheers Shingers)
To do This,You Need to go to www.htcdev.com to unlock it.
1.2 Register An acoount there and when its time to select your device scroll to the bottom and select 'All Other Supported Devices'.
1.3 Then you will get the warning boxes pop up asking you if you're sure you want to do it then saying you could void your warranty as well. Once you've clicked ok on those you'll be through to the instructions on how to unlock your bootloader.
Remember how to get your phone into fastboot from the instructions because you will need to do it again, or if anything goes wrong.
But if you follow the instructions properly nothing should go wrong... Its been tried and tested by lots of people...
And just incase you don't remember how to do it... Take battery out and pop it back in, then press volume down and power button together until you see the white bootloader screen and then press the power button to get into fastboot.
If You Are Facing Problem In 1 Part Only Grab Your Coffee and Watch Pogo
2.Then once you have that done you will need to get root and for that you will need to follow shingers5 tutorial below...
Get the file for rooting here DooMLoRD_v2_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip
1. enable usb debugging from settings - applications - development
2. plug phone to pc via usb cable - charge only
3. open extracted zip folder and click runme. thats all. (if experience any daemon hanging problems pls install htc sync and plug in phone so drivers are installed. once done delete htc sync and repeat root procedure) PC will open a cmd screen with prompts that you need to follow. The app does rest... So its nice and easy
4. After root is complete pls visit market and update SU app. once done root will be fully functional and eliminate any future FCs
5. Also as an extra tip you can install SU UPDATE fixer from market to update your binaries to 3.0
All Done
Note. If you're struggling with the above instructions, remember that you will need to un-install HTCsync because it interferes with fastboot and rooting...
NOW YOUR PHONE IS ROOTED
3.Then once you're rooted you will need to put CWM (Clockwork Mod) recovery on in order for you to be able to back up your phone and flash custom roms. The custom recovery by Paul O'Brien is the best one to use and is available to download here...
http://android.modaco.com/topic/3489...odaco-edition/
You will need your phone in fastboot again and you will need to find the fastboot folder on your PC (Windows). When you're in the fastboot folder press the left shift button and right click on the mouse and select open command prompt here. Make sure your phone is connected to the PC and is in fastboot. Also make sure that the recovery.img file that you downloaded from MoDaCo is in the fastboot folder too. Get back to the command promt window and type the following
fastboot flash recovery r1-recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7-modaco-runnymede.img (Tip: once you get to the r1 bit just hit tab and it will auto complete the rest of the line)
If you can't get the Paul O'Brien recovery installed (apparantly not everyone can) try the Older recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1348693
Now You Have Got Root And CWM
A lot of people who have come this far will want to put a custom rom on... unfortunately its not completely straight forward. But again there is a way round round it and you should only need to do it once, when you're coming from a stock rom.
4.1. You cant just flash a custom rom on this phone, firstly you will need the 'Chinese rom' which is here
http://hotfile.com/dl/148413075/8990...01713.zip.html and make sure it is on the SDcard part of your phones memory. Make sure it on the root of the SDcard because it will be easier to find later. Then you will need this rom RCMix3d Runny XL rom from here
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/56143145/RCM...ny_XL_v1.2.zip (thanks to benjamin.j.goodwin) and make sure that is on the SDcard too with the other rom
2. Then you will need to download this file from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...7&postcount=18 it is the 'Chinese boot.img' and will need flashing from fastboot again. So put the phone in fastboot and extract the 'boot.img' from the 'boot.rar' file and put it in the fastboot folder on the PC. Open the command prompt again and type this... fastboot flash boot boot.img ... This should only need doing once if you're coming from a stock rom.
3. Once you've done that you will need to get into recovery. From fastboot select bootloader and then look for recovery, it should be under fastboot if its worked correctly. Select that and the phone should then reboot and go into 'CWM' (recovery). Once there you will need to use the volume keys and power button just like when you were in bootloader. Go down and select 'Factory Reset/Data Wipe' and select that, the select yes on following screen. This will take a few mins (don't worry if it looks like its not doing anything). After that go down to 'Wipe Cache' and select that. and then go down to 'Advanced' select that and on the following screen select 'Wipe Dalvik Cache'.
4. Once thats all done you will need to select 'Install Zip File from SDcard' and then you will get another screen where you go to 'choose zip from SDcard' and the you will see all the contents of your SDcard, scroll down till you can select the Chinese rom you put on earlier (remember what it was called) and then select yes to install it. Sit back and wait another few minutes. Once its done select the 'reboot now'. The phone will then reboot again and start to load the new rom up. This will take a while so don't worry. Now once the phone has started you should get the start up wizard and you will just need to skip through it (don't worry about it being all in chinese... its in english). Not everyone needs to install the Chinese rom, some people can just go straight to the RCMix3d rom and install that, but it doesn't work for everyone, so I'm putting this in because it always works when you do it this way. Installing the Chinese rom should only need doing once if you're coming from a stock rom.
5. Boot into recovery again and goto 'Factory Reset/Data wipe', then 'Wipe Cache', then 'Advanced' and 'Wipe Dalvik Cache' and then go back to main screen and select 'Install Zip From SDcard' and then select 'RCMix3d zip' file and install that. Once thats done select Reboot Now and wait while phone boots up again... and VOILA you now have a custom rom Installed.
6. You could either leave that rom on (its a very good rom) or choose to install one of the other custom roms, read through the first few posts of each rom and decide from there whether you want to install that particular rom, or do what I did and install everyone and see which you like best .

These Are Enough As you Are Not drinking Your Coffee
Just In case If you Want to Come back to your Stock Rom
You will need to make sure phone is in fastboot and then get command prompt up in fastboot folder and type this...
fastboot oem lock
That will relock the bootloader so that you can flash a stock HTC stock image (or RUU) back to your phone. Your bootloader WILL need to be relocked for you to be able to flash stock image back to phone. You can find stock HTC roms (RUU's) here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1317895
When you're in fastboot and your phone is connected to the PC and you've downloaded the correct RUU for your region (they are region specific) double click on the RUU.exe and that should start the procedure of flashing the stock image back to your phone. I've never needed to do this, so I'm not 100% on the whole process.
Please remember that if you flash a RUU back to your phone, you will lose root etc, it will be like when you first got the phone...

Well yeah , it might not have much functions , but still the htcdev unlock is an ERASER , especially for non-rooted guys ! how will they backup their data while they're S-ON+Lock BL ?? This might help even if it doesn't have that much functions , at least it will unlock /system /data etc .... I think the OP should be updated with a warning , but while mentioning that the unlock is safer and does blah blah , but the S-off is a beta and doesn't erase blah blah . WHat do you think Guys ?

like i said its not for the faint hearted among us and best left to more experience users who even struggle with it. i think it should stay in fardjad thread for now while he continues to develop it. a guide is a tried and tested foolproof way to get guys started and stuff like beta hboot s-off should not be added as yet! if you are a stock rom and aim to stay there i dont see the pressing need to backup anything as such. anyway thats my opinion!

How do I make the fastboot?
Hello,
I've just got my HTC SXL and I was successfully do the S-Off and Unlocking the Bootloader.
Next is rooting the device.
But, I have a silly question beforehand. I realize that we must access the fastboot mode before do the rooting. But I can not find it how to do that.
Is there anybody who can help me with that?
Thank you so much
Turn the phone off and take the battery out, then put it back in and and press power button and volume down button until you get a white screen with text on then once there press power button again to get into fastboot
how about creating gold card in SXL memory card , I see that it is internal
any guide for ? or I have to disassemble it...
This is an update on a previous post, this time however you don't have to sieve through Chinese websites to get them....i have spent time to get them for you!
This Will revert your HTC Salsa to Stock
By using these you will wipe everything you have done. Recovery will be wiped, unknown about lock/unlocked boot-loader as i haven't attempted this with unlocked boot-loader before as.i had s-off at the time.
You do this at your own risk, i take no responsibility at all for anything that may or may not happen lol
Instructions for use.
HTC SYNC installed but not running, you want the cable driver mainly.
Instead of following on screen instruction via the RUU, set your phone into fastboot mode yourself then activate/run the RUU.exe you require, i would suggest run as administrator (right click on application)
This will take some time to install, i did it on 3rd attempt, first 2 were relying on the RUU to boot the phone for me...3rd i booted into fastboot/bootloader myself and away it went.
if for any reason it doesn't respond to you or it doesn't install stock or freezes, whip out the battery and do it all again!
Below are the RUU's please find the correct region your in and download accordingly. EU RUU is a common one if the others don't work. all roms are based of this version.

as the link in the lower post suggested you can also try this
*this wasn't provided by me please don't blame me if anything goes wrong*
1. Download your RUU
2. Extract and copy the system.img AND boot.img to the same directory as your fastboot tools "C:/fastboottools" ( make sure to copy both files )
3. Enter the fastboot mode on your phone by pressing volume down + power button after the device has been turned off.
4. Choose fastboot on the phone by pressing power button, and then connect your phone to your PC
5. Using fastboot tools, open the Command prompt and navigate to "C:\fastboottools" then run this command on cmd: "fastboot flash system system.img"
6. Dont reboot, Using fastboot tools, run this command on cmd: "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
( The two commands in step 5 and 6 are different, make sure to type each one correctly and to do them straight after each other )
7. Reboot phone. let it boot up, you will still get bootloop or error message.
8. Take out the battery.
9. Boot back into bootloader ( Volume down + power ).
10. Now choose recovery.
11. Phone should now reboot itself and bam, all should now work fine.
Well it seems a lot of you shadows hiding away wanted these lol, as the downloads in 1 day surprised me lol.

I managed to revert back to stock using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631121
Now I am running 2.3.3
Now i just want to update to 2.3.5 if possible, haven't been able to get OTA updates. Do you know how i can go about it?
CWM recovery is still intact.
Thanks
The salsa will never have 2.3.5 ota. HTC stopped at 2.3.3 and discontinued updates for us. well the stopped producing the salsa and totally dropped it.
that's why we have 2.3.5 roms that are not meant for us...ie no FB button that works correctly, no mirror or front facing camera.
and this is probably why noone is still running stock roms anymore

getting error 155 again and again. Used RUU_Europe, RUU_UK, RUU_Asia_WWE, RU_Asia_India. Rebooted to the fastboot screen myself but the RUU takes over from the white screen and fastboot menu and goes into the black screen with HTC written. Tried letting RUU boot itself but still same error.
EDIT:
I have previously unlocked bootloader to gain Root Access since I had S-ON on my device. Need help urgently. Can I revert back to a locked Bootloader or anything ?
Now I have relocked the bootloader and tried the Europe Salsa RUU.... It is giving me Error 140 now claiming the bootloader version is invalid.
HBOOT is updated and I notice that the Radio version mentioned on Fastboot Bootloader screen is different than mentioned in the RUU.

ok after of hours of fiddling around with this, I have come to the point where I really need the system.img and boot.img files
my phone is stuck at the htc boot screen with white background.
I have installed htc cable driver and got fastboottools files created and did some googling and found out that the only other way to install this is by running the exe while in fastboot and have to bootloader "relocked"
I tried to extract them from the executable using 7-zip but can't see them there.
Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

in all fairness mate, i can't help on this. these guides were provided by others and has been known to work for us. i have not tried this and will not be trying this either as i have no desire to revert. what i do mention in all rom threads is this. take a backup of your stock rom in recovery before you tamper or change anything, this way you can revert straight back to your stock rom, no questions asked.
i would think though you may not have either installed correctly or its the wrong ruu, but i can't tell

I am not holding you responsible for any of my actions mate. I do appreciate all the info you provided here.
I attempted to do a backup but the SD card got full in the middle of the process. My luck.
I was just asking if anyone (not necessarily you) would have a copy of these files as I attempted to download the files from the other thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631121, but the links are dead. I was hoping someone might have them and would like to share with us. That's all.

you won't get a zip version ruu only stock as i listed rom wise. now did you lock the bootloader before trying to add stock back on?
if you did there's part of your problem.
unlock it again, go find stock.zip in stock rom thread in android development section and flash it....then lock the bootloader. if you lock the loader again please note root etc won't work/function correctly again. to have any root privilege's you require either s-off or unlocked bootloader.

tends to be normal that, but just to let you know...i have only ever reset using the ruu once before and it took along time to do it! since then ive never gone back. ive flashed stock.zip which gave me back stock...but its not for me.
so flash my stock.zip nothing else.
if it is just Facebook your having issues with then don't just swap roms or go back to stock, it won't help, it will probably make it worse to be honest. im using a new black Facebook as i hosted in the thread in android apps section and have no problems with it.
just make sure you have Facebook installed and moved to sd only.

no way to downgrade sorry.
it has been noted elsewhere that this Facebook issue tends to fail when its installed on normal internal memory or as an update on-top of the system Facebook already installed.
you can tell if this is the case by going into link2sd and looking at Facebook.apk, it may have a green updated next to it. you can remove this update by uninstalling it.
i don't have this problem as it works fine on CM7.
you can try and uninstall the Facebook you have, go into recovery wipe cache/dalvik and reboot, apparently this removes all traces it was there.
reboot and install Facebook 2.0 or black which ever.
using link2sd move it to the sdcard and then try it.
i am gonna try this on other roms when i can to see if this works or not.

For RUUs, stock recoveries, stock Nandroids (in case you need to return to stock, unrooted), TWRP links, and other important tools, please check this thread by Rydah805. It has the stuff you want.
Note: S-Off link at the bottom of the OP. You'll need the HTCDev unlock method completed first and you'll need root access to make it work. So once you're done with this little guide (or the noob friendly one in the HTC One international forums here), you can hop right on over to Sunshine (linked at the bottom) to get that done if you don't mind the $25 fee.
I can confirm this works on the following:
Android 5.0.2
HTC Sense Version 7.0
Software Number 1.32.531.25 (tested and working with software update 1.32.531.33)
Kernel Version [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT
Baseband version 01.01_U11440251_64.04.50312G_2_F
Build Number 1.32.531.25 CL505029 release-keys
As usual, you do this at your own risk. It's not my fault if you mess things up (although I sympathize completely if you do). I cannot confirm this works on any other version than this one, although I've seen this work on the AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and International variants. Feel free to link there or just copy paste the whole damn thing and post it over in those forums to make it easier for those folks. I really, honestly don't mind.
It took me a while so I figured i'd make a thread on it to make it easier for our fellow T-Mobile M9 peoples. This is essentially a link dump so you can get to the places you need to go faster. Before continuing, please read this advice from Rydah805 because it's invaluable. Thankfully, we won't be using the 2.8.5.0 version of TWRP in this quick tutorial but the important part of the message is that you should make a nandroid of the unmodified stock ROM BEFORE rooting. Otherwise you will have many problems down the line. If you have thanks to give, give them to the posters of all these various threads. I did nothing special, just went through the steps to see how it worked.
Please note, if you're using Mac or Linux, I don't use those things and couldn't try/test/use the root method on those platforms. I assume Linux works pretty much the same way as Windows (you'll have to get ADB/Fastboot a different way of course).
Let's get started
Pre-requisites:
1. You'll need SuperSU by Chainfire. You can download it here. Put this on your device where you can find it later. I've seen people say it needs to be on an external SD card, but I've seen it work from both internal and external.
2. You'll need a modified version of 2.8.6.0 of TWRP. You can download that here. The link is at the bottom of the post where it says "Beta version with system backup fixed...". That's the one you want.
3. You will need ADB and Fastboot. I recommend Minimal ADB and Fastboot. You can find that here. Install it like any other Windows application AND MAKE SURE TO LET IT CREATE A DESKTOP ICON. This will make finding it later much easier. Linux users will need to find a different way to get ADB/Fastboot. Probably just downloading the SDK...although if you're running Linux you know all this already so let's just move on.
4. You'll need the HTC One drivers. I did this by installing HTC Sync Manager and it worked fine for me. You can download the HTC Sync Manager here.
Okay now for the actual root method.
1. First you'll need to unlock the bootloader using HTDdev.com. Follow this tutorial to do that.
2. Once your bootloader is unlocked. You'll want to flash the TWRP recovery to your HTC One M9. Rename the TWRP file you downloaded in the pre-requisits it to "recovery" (no quotes, and the .img shouldn't be visible) and place it in the Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder on your COMPUTER. For windows, this is usually under your C drive > Program Files (x86) > Minimal ADB and Fastboot.
3. On your One M9, turn it off. Press the volume down key and power simultaneously and you'll get a black screen. Using the volume keys to scroll, go to Download Mode and click the power button to confirm.
4. On your computer, open Minimal ADB and Fastboot using the icon I told you make earlier (you listened, right? ). If you renamed the TWRP image you downloaded earlier to "recovery" and put it in the proper folder as I stated earlier, then all you need to do is type the following:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
5. At this point the recovery should flash successfully. HOWEVER, in my experience, you may get some silly errors (unknown error, Fastboot crashed, too many links, etc). If this is the case, don't panic. Turn the device off, re-enter download mode again, close the command window and re-open Minimal ADB and Fastboot and try again. All I did to get it to work was try a couple of times over again. Sometimes it goes, sometimes it doesn't. Silly Windows being silly I presume.
6. Okay, you should now have recovery. Enter recovery by pressing and holding volume up and volume down while pressing power to enter bootloader mode. Scroll using the volume keys to "Recovery" and hit the power button. You should now be in a weird looking TWRP. This is normal.
7. CREATE A FREAKING NANDROID BACKUP RIGHT NOW. According to some recognized members of the community, HTC updates only work on an unmodified system. If you ever want to receive official updates from HTC, you HAVE to create a NANDROID RIGHT NOW. Do it. I'll wait.
8. Did you create a Nandroid yet? No? You naught boy/girl, go do that now please.
9. But no really, create a Nandroid please.
10. Once your Nandroid is complete and you have an unmodified, unrooted system backed up, we can actually root the damn thing. You should have SuperSU on your device (as per the pre-requisites). If not, go download that using the link I provided above and put it on your device. Anywhere should be fine.
11. Okay now here's the tricky part. TWRP boots into recovery as Read Only but ONLY on unmodified systems. The reason for this is because HTC updates can't install if the recovery is read/write enabled. Since you're not yet rooted, your TWRP is booting up to Read Only. That means even if you flash SuperSU right now, it won't actually do anything because TWRP can't write to /system (yes, it will say it flashed successfully, it's a liar liar pants on fire).
12. To overcome this, you'll need to follow the instructions in this post.
13. Once you have manually mounted the system partition using the post I linked above (did you thank him? I think you should've thanked him), you may now flash SuperSU.zip as you normally would.
14. Reboot, and you should now be rooted. Don't forget to install BusyBox (search "busybox" in the Google Play Store, download the one developed by Stephen (Stericson). Once installed, open it, give it Superuser permission, then just hit install). Once busybox is installed, you will have the full root experience and can use apps like Titanium Backup.
And that should do it folks. Again, don't thank me, all I did was gather links and put the steps in order. The other people deserve your praise.
Now as for updating, I don't know how it will work yet, but this is how I believe it'll work in theory.
If you have a system update:
1. Create a titanium backup of all of your apps (trust me).
2. Reboot to recovery, restore your unrooted, unmodified Nandroid that I told you literally 5 times to make.
3. Reboot, then check for updates. Install the system update.
4. Re-root your device using the steps above (by then I'm sure there will be a more stable TWRP, make sure you always have the most updated one!)
5. Restore your apps via Titanium Backup.
Again, that's how I believe it should work in theory but I won't know for sure until I receive a system update.
IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS, please contact the smarter people in the threads I linked who are actively working on helping people with issues. I suppose you can post them here, but as you can see by my post count, I rarely pay much attention
Enjoy!
*Edit*
Bonus points: Our device is compatible with the S-Off method brought by Sunshine. It's a $25 purchase but it does work (tested) and I've seen people report that it works on the .33 update as well. Click here to check out Sunshine.

I could, definitely. Maybe create a clean one (without my stuff logged in) and upload here...what would I have to include so people could actually use it? I've never tried restoring a borrowed Nandroid backup before lol.
All you need to post is system and boot. You don't need to wipe your info, all of that is stored on the data partition, which we don't necessarily need. So just backup using the beta TWRP 2.8.6.0 you mentioned and zip and upload the following files:
Boot.emmc.win
Boot.emmc.win.md5
Recovery.log
System.ext4.win000.win
System.ext4.win000.win.md5
System.ext4.win001.win
System.ext4.win001.win.md5
System.ext4.win002.win
System.ext4.win002.win.md5
System.info

The ".md5" files are only created if you have the generate md5 option on in TWRP. If this option isn't enabled, they aren't necessary.
I hope you haven't used TWRP 2.8.5.0 on your M9 at all. Have you?
Edit:
I'm assuming you have root already and what we need is an untouched system partition. If you haven't touched the system partition then we are good, but if not, don't bother making a backup. The easiest way to check if your system partition is still good to use for OTA's, boot into TWRP and go to the mount options and if "System" is an option, it's no good and a stock backup from that particular device is useless, but if the "System" option isn't there, please make the backup and share it. Lol

I followed my exact instructions before I posted them I got my device last night and did all of this today (in fact, I wrote it as I completed each step). I have an untouched /system in my nandroid and my TWRP was only 2.8.6.0. Curiously enough, my Nandroid has a system.emmc.win and boot.emmc.win...will that be a problem? I flashed the 2.8.6.0 modified one that allows for backups beforehand but I don't have ext4 I guess.

So I have rooted many of my phones and just received my M9 last night. Not really interested in rooting it just yet. Although I was curious if there is any benefit to only unlocking the bootloader. or just wait for when I root it?

Unlocking the bootloader gives you access to installing custom ROMs, kernels and rooting the phone. You only really need to unlock it if and when you're doing any of these.
Figured as much. I wanna run it stock for a bit to see how it runs. I will admit, I am impressed with the battery life so far. I made it 12 hours at work with 17% left when I got home.
Worked for me. Thanks
Am I missing something? While in recovery, after I've already made a backup(It's uploading) I go to advance>terminal and I type in
Code:
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system /system
it returns
Code:
mount: mounting /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system on /system failed: Device or resource busy
Edit: Apparently it still worked.
Here is a TWRP backup of my phone right after I unlocked it, so it should be completely stock. I didn't remove any of the files, so the data files are in there as well. (Again, right after I wiped from unlocking)
Just drag the folder into your twrp backup folder and you should be good to go.

Hi all. I recently bought an m8 sprint and I have been trying to sim unlock it but until now I have failed :crying: I manage to root the device and I tried to load an android version which I read help to the sim unlock process but now Android will not load at all (see image attached). I also read I should be s-off but for that I download an apk file which I think I can install it as long as I have android working but the device are not loading android so I can not manage to s-off it. TWRP is working fine, I just dont know how to go further. Your expert advice will be much much much appreciate. Thank you all for any advice (newbie terms)

Thank you for the prompt reply. Well I follow the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2718150 instruction. I successfully completed to

The second thread you followed that gave you instructions to use the am start command is for the m7. It didn't work because the command isn't leading anywhere on the m8. As for the bootloop, are you sure you flashed the right thing? That is rom is for the Harmon Kardon m8. Can you post a fastboot getvar all (without your serial no and imei)?
no luck

thank you again for your prompt repy. The m8 is HK edition - sprint. Now, with the m8 in the recovery menu (other ways are not recognize by the pc) for fastboot getvar all it says <waiting for device> (please see attached images -0 i erased th final 4 digits of the serial). device manager in My PC shows the phone is connected correctly (please see attach image) but I dont know why it will not answer the fastboot command. Anyways thank you for any advice

Hey man, it's pretty easy. Download this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=9599 it is important that you use this specific file. Don't trip cause it says harman, it's safe to flash on your device.
After you downloaded follow this instructions.
1. Install WinRar, or 7zip.
2. Open the ROM in either of those programs (don't extract, just open it)
3. Navigate to system, then app, and there you will have to drag and drop the 2 files I have attached.
4. Let WinRar or 7zip save the file (It may take a while 7 - 10 minutes) BE PATIENT.
5. Transfer the modded ROM to your phone
6. Flash in TWRP (Make sure you wipe system partition)
7. Reboot to the system, complete the config wizar
8. Follow the steps to unlock (am.start....... etc.)
9. Enjoy
****** I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT S-OFF IS NOT REQUIRED TO SIM UNLOCK YOUR DEVICE ******
I have made a ton of these and NEVER had to S-Off
If you encounter any issues let me know.

Hey my friend. The thing is that the stock rom doesn't bring the 2 apks required to unlock. So you actually have to push them to your phone. The easiest way is to add them to a custom rom to set the permissions automatically. The other way around is to root the phone, put the two files into the system/app folder and then manually set permissions. If you prefer just follow the instructions I sent on my earlier reply.
Cheers!
android is back to life!

thank you for your directions. good news Android is back to life again, bad news is that sim is still locked, I tried again from terminal emulator the (am.start....... etc.) but I got an error (please see the attached image). I follow all your steps very carefully, the only thing I had to do differently was that I put your attached files in the zip file using windows zip program and it did take a long time to finish (like 30min) I did try with winrar but it keep creating a new small file with just those 2 files. Is it possible that the 2 files were not added correctly?
Thank you for any advice on how to unlock it
going crazy
update: last night I tried the unlocksim.zip file and installed it on my device with TWRP, and then used the method with the the terminal emulator (am ...) and with the sim unlock helper too, but both send me the vDM client has stopped. I read it could be solved with insert coin system, so I go ahead and installed it, but still get the same message. Any ideas?

Hey man, I fotgot to tell ya, you have to be on JellyBean or KitKat for the sim unlock command works. I have tried pushing the files on Lollipop but it always got me force close, so it's better to flash a KitKat rom....
This is what I can do man, I will upload my modded ROM and send you link. Don't give up man.
EDIT: I forgot to ask, did you get the hidden menu where you tap API then SIM LOCK? Or couldn't you get there?
I was thinking about the same thing

a minute ago I also remember I've read lollipop will not work. Your mooded ROM or any other that could do the trick will be the salvation for my m8. Thank you once again in advance

Alright don't worry man, after you successfully sim unlock you will be able to flash any ROM you like, I am using InsertCoin, but again I installed it after sim unlocking
EDIT: For the sake of time and my bandwidth. Can you try the steps I sent you yesterday but using 7zip instead? Please try, right now I have uploaded 100MB/1.5GB so imagine...
I will give it a try

Sure, I will give it a try right now with 7zip. (there's no need to waste your bandwith, don't worry). I'll keep you posted!

Its ready to go. No need to do anything else other than execute the am... command
Need backup, pinned down by failure!
Hey guys, I am having the same problem. Unlocked, rooted, s-on. I tried installing the bad boys 2.1 mod you recommended on the first page, after swapping in the new files, and it still freezes at the HTC one screen. I did a factory wipe before the install as well. I am using a NON HK M8, however I thought that bad boys worked on either. Please let me know if I am incorrect in that aspect.
I am in a similar situation as I purchased this phone and now live in the Caribbean, sprint is blocking my new gsm carrier. What a headache sprint is.
Thanks in advance

Ok, I downloaded the file and installed it, but it freezes at the htc one screen. Is it possible that the firmaware version needs to be updated? other idea: On your #19 you say it is possible to push the 2 files directly once the system is running, is there a way we can try that?
Have you tried wiping system partition before flashing? What version of TWRP are you using?

Alright my friend. Try the same, wipe system partition before flashing. And what version of TWRP are you using?
I manage to do it
jacnsa said:
ok, finally did it! wipping the partition did the trick and it finally worked ! Well its not a good news at all. Bad news is that even after entering :am start com.redbend... which this time worked and bring me the API menu and then after selecting Sim unlock (and nothing happened). reboot the phone and then entering the *#*#4636#*#* menu and seleccion wcdma prefered still nothing happened. I reboot and again entering the *#*#4636#*#* menu it appears to be again selected the CDM/EvDO.... option, once again selecting WCCDMA preferred and again nothing. I think it is strangethat after rebooting the system the original band appears again to be selected. I am attaching some images which I think can be some kind of help.
Any clue on how to achieve the unlocking will be much appreciated...
