So I'm on stock 6.0.1 with root. Has anyone been able to set "Automatically lock" to something like 30 minutes and actually have their phone obey? If I set it to 30 minutes and disable "Power button instantly locks", the phone still locks after a few seconds and I have to re-enter my pattern.
Just tried it and for me it works as expected.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Edit: I'm also on rooted stock 6.0.1.
I think I found the issue. I've been using the double tap shortcut in Nova Launcher to lock the screen and put the phone to sleep. This bypasses any lockscreen delay you have set or any Smart Lock devices you may have paired. So, unfortunately, you can't use any third party apps to put your phone to sleep if you want to use Smart Lock or lock screen delays.

evenin all, i've tried a lot of lock apps recently, basically i'm trying to achieve the following.
Auto Dim after pre set time if no key is pressed, could also auto lock.
Auto standby after pre set time if no key pressed.
In standby, a hardware key press will bring the phone back out of standby, but not unlock it.
but, it would also be useful if the phone does not lock when a call is in progress. I've found apps to do the first three (diamondhacks), but this doesnt appear to have a feature to prevent the phone from lock/standby if a call is active.
Anyone got an ideas?
I have the XT1053 phone which is rooted and has an unlock boot loader and gravitybox installed.. How do I screen lock my phone? I have it set to a pattern n to lock the screen after 30mins but is there an option or something I can add via gravity box or similar that will add a button to lock now when I expand my status bar buttons or something of that nature?
Pretty much I don't want to instantly lock right away but sometimes I want to
When you touch the power button, doesn't the screen turn off and display the lockscreen when you touch power again?

yea it does that which is great. But for example I'll give you a scenario
My current set up as of now: I have the pattern lock screen, which after i unlock will relock after 30min (current setup in default settings option).
Now lets say your at a place or around someone that you would want to lock the screen instantly instead of waiting 30min.
I would like a button where I can do that quickly instead of going to settings and changing the wait time before it locks again
Are you talking about the Settings > Display > Sleep > choose sleep time? For you that means the screen will sleep (display off) after 30 minutes. If you set the 'Automatically lock' to 'Immediately' that should also require your unlock pattern to be used when you touch the power button to turn on the screen. So touching the power button will turn off the display and lock the screen immediately which seems to be what you want. Touching the power button again will open to the locked lockscreen.

A post above suggested to instantly lock. Which in your case there's times when you want to quickly lock it and there's times that you might be doing something and that 30 mins before locking helps out. There is the moto skip that you can unlock with the NFC tag but I think its the same boat as setting the default lock. I haven't tried it myself but it seems that it unlocks the phone without having to input the pin then you just sleep the phone. I'll try it out and get back to you on the skip.

Try lock screen widget from the play store .
Doesn't Gravity Box have a setting to double tap the Status Bar for lock? I thought I saw it in there. Also, are you sure you have your phone set to go to sleep for 30 MINUTES and and not SECONDS? I think default is 30 SECONDS.
Hey everyone,
I encrypted my phone and installed MobileIron to get work email and calendar. Ended up removing it all and decrypting phone after a few weeks. Since then, my phone isn't locking when the screen times out. If can be sitting with a black screen, but soon as I touch the home button it's awake and ready for action. It seems to lock eventually after sitting for an indeterminate amount of time.
Where the heck is the setting to control how long the phone waits before locking (requiring swipe or pin, not just turning off screen)? I know when I had the phone encrypted I found it and changed it to like 15 minutes so I didn't have to enter my 8 digit pin every couple of minutes, but now that its decrypted I am either blind or that setting is gone....
Thanks in advance.

First thing is to go to settings > lockscreen > screen lock and change it to pin or swipe or something other than swipe until your device recognizes when you've locked it. If it starts locking with the pin engaged go back and turn it to swipe and see if it locks on its own again. Second I imagine that it locks when you press the power button to turn the screen off? Set your screen timeout to an obscenely high number so that you remember and get in the habit of locking the device by pressing the power button. This is just for habit because Android (the base system) engages the lockscreen when the power button is pressed and the screen is on. If you are running a custom ROM you could dirty flash to put system settings back to default and if you are on stock out of the box you may have to factory reset to get settings back to their default state. I know that last one is less than optimal, but if the first two options (changing the lockscreen type and locking manually) are not a good work around then you will either have to do the encryption routine again to see if it fixes it and if it doesn't then you may have to factory reset.
Hi,
My KnockON functionality is acting up. It used to work fine, until 2 things I did to my phone. Is there a way to somehow reset/refresh the phone, without doing a factory reset? I don't want to lose the free wifi tether, because I'm on ZVC.
Details: I installed some Ingress timer app, and it somehow messed with the phone to where my phone sometimes ignores the wake-up when I tap twice on the screen. The phone is fine when I double-tap to sleep the screen. And sometimes it wakes up fine. Other times, I need to hold my finger down on the black/sleeping screen, and then it wakes (so that's just one tap and hold, instead of the usual double-tap, to wake the sleeping phone). Other times it could be that I tap several times, hold my hand on the screen, etc., and it might work. Then other times no tapping or holding will work, and I have to press the physical button to wake the phone. But I never have any trouble when I double-tap to sleep the phone, because I think the phone is fully awake at that point and able to detect each press correctly. So something is making my phone sleep so hardcore that it may ignore some screen taps. I have already tried using quickshortcut maker to launch the hidden KnockON menu, and toggled that on/off with resetting the phone in between, and also tried installing and uninstalling the Ingress timer app that led to this.
Just want to confirm that my situation is hopeless and I have no choice but to perform a factory reset, and then figure out how to get wireless tether later. But I'm worried that there is no mention whether people on ZVC have any options when it comes to free wifi tether after doing a factory reset on ZVC?
Hello Everyvone,
since i've upgraded to EMUI 9 i'm searching the option to disable the screenlock by pressing the on/off button.
Sometimes i disable my screen just for seconds and want to came back without need to unlock it.
Until Android 8 there was an option for this in every Android version. But where can i find this now in Android 9?
Same problem is with Screen Lock by timeout. Normaly after screen timeout i configured 3min where the device was not already locked. So with just pressing on/off i could have came back without unlocking again.
Any ideas how to get this back now?
Yeah the brainiacs at Huawei removed this with the Emui 9 update, it is still possible in stock Android 9 afaik. Now you can't set any time limit or anything, just instant lock when the screen turns off whether it is by pressing the power button or after your chosen time. Really annoying but not surprising. I wonder if this is to force us to use fingerprint unlocking, which I don't use because... Huawei.
