Non existant file transfers only to "Download" folder. other folders are fine. - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Non existant file transfers only to "Download" folder. other folders are fine.
Background: I used TWRP to completely wipe my Nexus 6. Through Windows I made a folder called "Download" and put my ROM and SuperSU in there which transferred fine. Installed ElementalX 3.0.
Now when I transfer files from my PC to the Download directory, I just get a moving bar and the files never actually transfer. I have only waited about 5 minutes then gave up. Once I cancel the transfer, Windows loses connection with the phone and I have to re-plug the USB cable in. The problem only occurs when I try to transfer to the Download directory. I can transfer files from my computer to any other folder of the phone with no problems. I also cannot delete the Download directory using Windows Explorer, and two file manager programs on the phone called File Manager, and ES Explorer. The Download directory also has two files, SuperSU and ElementalX, which cannot be deleted. It's not a major issue, but it's bugging me.
Oh, my Android skill level is novice wannabe so be gentle with the big fancy words. However, after a few short hours of owning the phone I did figure out how to ROOT and install a custom ROM, so I ain't totally stupid - just mostly.

check the file permissions on those files and the folder, ES Explorer can likely do that I don't use ES but I know its well featured. Its the only thing I could think of off the top of my head.

Reboot into recovery. Go to advanced, file manager. Browse to that Downloads folder, hit select, then choose delete.
Should get rid of it for you.
I'm assuming that you made the Downloads folder originally through TWRP while it was connected as an MTP device? If so, sometimes it can do weird things while in recovery. While the MTP driver works in TWRP, it's not extremely mature and is really just there as a convenience for folks that aren't comfortable with the standard command line stuff.

Thanks man. That sorta worked. There was a section in ES where I could change all permissions to RW. I don't know if that effected things but after I did that I renamed the Download folder to Downloads with an 's'. I was able to recreate another Download directory and now I can download stuff from the net as I wasn't able to with the old Download directory. This seemed like a patch but at least things were better. However, I then read Yoinx's post and it worked and complete got rid of the bad folder.

You sir are a bloody genius. Worked like a charm.
I am going to explain this as well as I can. When I wiped everything with TWRP (I didn't mean to. It was just a noob mistake) I was no longer able to see my phone's files on my computer. If I am not mistaken, it did show the phone hooked up, but no files, or even "internal storage" were showing - I could be wrong. I needed to copy SuperSU and the ElementalX ROM from my computer to my phone but I was screwed. I fiddled about in TWRP, and I believe it was under "Mount" where I was able to check/tick all the folders that were unchecked. I am assuming since they were unchecked, Windows could not see the files on my phone. After checking/ticking the folders, I hooked the phone up to the PC and the N6 showed up. I made the Download directory in Windows and copied the ROM and SuperSU that way.
Also, I don't even know what an MTP device is. Maybe I did what you said as I was sort of clicking here and there to see if this or that would work. I was in semi panic mode so I don't remember every single thing I did. Anyways brother thank you so much for your help. Here's some nice delicious Hawaiian pineapple for ya. E lauhoe mai na wa’a i ke ka i ka hoe i ka hoe i ke ka pae aku i ka ‘aina

Are you sure it freezes? Mine just takes *ages* to finish that stage.
But yes, delete that folder and you'll be able to rebuild your library from scratch.

Delete the folder (that he said above) via file explorer. You can usually find the folder in the root of your storage card. Works everytime. G/L.
unable to find the hidden folder WMDRM, used the search program on my phone asnd still no luck . do i have to sync my tilt and delete it thru the cpu.
If you are using the standard file explorer, make sure that you have the "show all files" option switched on.
i wish it was that simple
yeah it is. win i pulled up winrar to un rar a file i saw it as a folder but i can't get to it. still haven't sync phone, @ wrk
If it 1 thing its another

after this it updating says it found 2087 files but only adds the file save to the phone not the memory card. doeas this sound familiar to any one
yeah use Total Commander or another "good" file explorer. & remove the "WMDRM" folder... it should be in the root folder of your SD card...
even then, if you have a TON of mp3's you may have to wait 5 minutes while it updates... I've had to reboot when it freezes & its hard to tell when its just taking forever & when its frozen :S
If that STILL doesn't work, try putting your files back on your desktop computer, then put your SD card in your computer, and re-transferring them that way.
Hope that helps

Cappy being crappy help!!!

Hey guys i have a problem with my cappy. When i plug the phone to the computer and i try to open the folder, the message pop out and it says "unable to open the script file".
I am running ICS 4.0.3
thanks.
bump! plz help...if you need any additional information about the problem i will try to explain the best i can.
right click the drive letter assigned to the phone.
chose expand or open, do not choose autorun
if it opens ok, you have an autorun problem with your drives. possibly a bug in your computer or you accidentally placed an autorun file on your phone card or both
Hey man i did what you said to do and it opens fine, but i cant get to open any folder i just get the message unable to open the script file when i double click on any folder on my phone, but i can open zip files . Is there any way i can find and delete this "autorun file".
Thanks
does the same procedure work on each folder in your phone? right click and choose expand or open?
If so, and there is no autorun file in the folders, then you have a bug in your computer. Start researching on how to scan and clean your computer. It is beyond the scope of this forum to get into that.
If there is an autorun in each folder on your phone, something put them there and they don't belong. Delete them using any file explorer app (root access file explorer might be necessary depending on where the file is located), see if they come back. If they come back when not connected to your computer, you have a bugged phone or a malfunctioning app. short answer in this case is to backup and wipe your phone. Backups may not be trustworthy either unless you find the culprit.
No way I can be more specific without having the phone in my hand, sorry.
Yes for the each folder is the same thing. I try to open it on different laptop and it does the same thing so it must be in the phone.
I will try to do that and see what happens. Thanks you man a lot.

Titanium backup update.zip question

Where is th update. Zip file located
I creaed update.Zip file but im not able to find it
Its located in /sdcard
i still not able to find it
when you create the update.zip file, and it's finished, the notification bar will have a notification about the path, check that. If it's not there, may be the zip was not created successfully.
/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
Was this solved? I can't find the file either.. it's not in the root of the sdcard, I've tried to create it twice and searched for it. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
dont you get a notification of completion of the process and when you pull it down, you can see where its located ?
I'm having the same problem. If I look with root explorer, it exists on the root of the SD, but I can't see it in windows? Maybe it's a 2GB file limit thing or something?
but the update.zip is not more than 4MB

Yeah, I tried to make a smaller one, and it's still there but I can't see it in windows. I tried renaming it as well and that didn't work either.

Answering my own question - its definitely located in the root, just not visible in Windows no matter what I do. Use a root explorer to grab it and move it to a flash drive or remote network location, that's what I did and it worked great.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I used wifi file transfer. I was able to download the file from there.
I had this problem. Try simply unplugging your phone from the USB cord, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back into your PC. Your PC should now see the update.zip.
One of common prob's with MTP !!
just do a search in root explorer, i got 4 locations of the same file on my galaxy s3 so you can find it in anyone of those.
and yes it is the same file in all of those locations, i even tried to change the name on one of them to check if all of them changed and they did
/data/media/0/update.zip
/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
/mnt/shell/emulated/0/update.zip
/storage/emulated/0/update.zip
Move the file out of the root directory and put it a folder, any folder. It will then show up on windows.

This worked for me! Although I used the stock file manager. After moving the update.zip to another location using file manager, I was able to see the file via Windows as well.
just change the file name and retry. worked for me
C:\> adb pull /sdcard/update.zip

Transferring data, etc. to replacement phone

So i had to get my N6 replaced becasue the top speaker was all wacked out, so i got the new one and hope someone can help me (i know there will be ) first i'm trying to copy the titanium backup files, i keep getting an error on certain files saying "cannot copy, device has stopped responding or has been disconnected" when clearly neither of those things have happened. I am on stock rooted & unencrypted. I tried searching but found no answer to this..
Just created an update.zip but when i look on the computer, i cannot see the file..
how are you trying to copy the backup files?
I usually copy it to an online storage (dropbox/box etc). Make sure you download and restore it to your new phone before wiping/returning your old phone.
I'll try dropbox, what i did was had it create an update.zip which contains apps+data so i could flash it in recovery on the new phone. I can see the file with root explorer on the sdcard, but when i plug it in to the computer i don't see the file..
I'm trying to drag the tibu folder to dropbox and it won't do anything...

Are read/write permissions set on the file/directory?
Try moving it to your phones "Downloads" directory and see if it shows on your computer? Enable "view hidden file types".
rwxrwx-- the only part not checked is where it says others..
Edit: I tried checking the boxes next to others and it said permissions could not be changed..

Write permissions SD card tru USB

Hello people,
When I open Windows Explorer and I naviagte to my Huawei P9, I see my files, but I can't copy of save files,
my phone is not rooted and I have usb debugging enabled.
Is it possible to edit and save files on my SD tru my USB connection?
Regards,
Ralph
Hey,
Unfortunately Android changed right managements with version 5 I think. Now you must be rooted to grant certain apps write permissions for SD card. However, the original file explorer that came with the phone (the one by Huawei) should be able to copy files. Also, you can copy them from your computer via USB on your phone. When the phone is connected to your computer slide down the task bar and click on files...there you go!

Yes I found the file explorer, but I'm not shure if this helps me.
The reason I'm asking this question is this:
I use watchmaker, and watchmaker has a folder on my SD card , and one of thos folders has a script folder with lua scripts.
I want to open a text editor like sublime text on my windows pc and open the script folder on my phone SD card and edit those scripts and save it.
so is there a way I can tell android, it's ok that everyone has access to this script folder so I can edit those files tru my pc/usb?
Regards,
Ralph
