The phone will work with WIFI. You need a GSM phone, not a CDMA phone, if you want cellular reception.

(I didn't realize the O.P. was asking about a US Cellurar Moto X, which apparently may have a crippled GSM radio.

Thanks for your response. I will stay back from buying as there is no point having a device with broken wifi. .

While this wiki page -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_X indicates the XT1055 does support 850/900/1900/2100 UMTS/HSPA, the FCC docs don't list any UMTS/HSPA/WCDMA tests, only CDMA, LTE, and Wifi. And US Cellular's web site doesn't list UMTS/HSPA as supported either. So I'm not sure. Reading THIS FCC doc for the XT1055 indicates only CDMA 800/1900, LTE Bands 4, 5 and 12 only. No mention of UMTS/HSPA/WCDMA.
UMTS and HSPA will be needed if you want faster than 2G speeds on GSM networks.
one other thing I'm unsure of, if the US Cellular X (XT1055) is SIM unlocked for GSM.

Thanks. It is very strange that Moto X comes in different model by network and confusing which one to choose from for the GSM networks like in the UK.
Motorola Moto X XT1058 for AT&T
Motorola Moto X XT1053 for T-Mobile
Motorola Moto X XT1052 for Europe
Motorola Moto X XT1056 for Sprint
Motorola Moto X XT1060 for Verizon
Motorola Moto X XT1055 for U.S. Cellular

This is because of the different frequencies in use by location, and by carrier as well in the case of the USA...
I would be been nice if Moto could have made one GSM version that supported all GSM/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA/LTE frequencies around the globe, and then the CDMA variants (like Verizon, Sprint and US Cellular) as needed.
From that list, most would probably say... XT1052 or XT1053 for use in Europe, but keep in mind the XT1053 would be missing some LTE bands and/or UMTS/HSPA bands that are likely used in Europe.
XT1058 could also work, but you can't unlock its boot loader, and you'd have to watch out for one or two bands not being there.
I want to buy Moto X 2014 GSM Unlocked version from US.
I live in Europe - Macedonia, so i want to know will this phone work in Macedonia?
Also there are 2 choises on motorla site Motorla X pure edition and NET10 Wireless , which one should i chose
You have to consider what networks your GSM supports. The version you will buy will depend on your carrier.
EDIT: This section is also for the 2013 model. The 2014 Moto X have their own section.

It should work with either AT&T or T-mobile in the US, but I think the LTE bands are different, so HSPA+ is the best you would do. My wife uses a Moto G on T-mobile HSPA+ and I can't tell a difference between data speed for her and my Moto X on LTE during regular use. Cheapest option (assuming only you on the contract) is probably a T-mobile pre-paid SIM. There is a plan from their website with loads of data, but only 100 min of voice per month for $30. They have several other options.
Not knowing how long you will be here, selling your phone and getting a US Pure model (will also work when you go back to UK) might be the best option.
Mine is a network unlocked Moto x in the UK, and i would be relocating permanently to the US, but dont want to sell off this one and get a new one in US. Was checking if there is any way to get the LTE bands enabled in the US or any network provider who uses similar of most of the LTE bands supported by the UK edition and will manage on 3G for the other duration.

Semseddin,
Thanks for checking this, I have translated the WCMDA bands to their respective frequencies for easy reading if anyone else is curious.
Code:
Bands
GSM 800, 850, 900, 1800, 1900
UMTS/HSPA(WCDMA) 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
LTE(2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17)
This would indicate that WCDMA Band VIII (900mhz) is NOT supported. Can anyone else offer any input?
Thanks!
EDIT: Just wanted to add that this corresponds exactly with the specs on Motorola's Brazilian website.
My device is from Puerto Rico. If we had information from usa moto maxx xt1250 and moto maxx xt1225 from india, we could compare the band support for different regions.
Bump.

There is NO difference in bands in the Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo XT1225. That's been proven over and over. It is the same model, with the SAME FCC ID. Only a different name because there is a carrier called "Maxx" in India, and Motorola didn't want any confusion this phone is affiliated with them.
Motorola for some strange reason did not list all the bands the XT1225 has enabled, when they released it in Latin America. I found the bands when scanning with modem software, and users in Canada confirmed what I found, actually using HSPA Band 4 and LTE band 5 with carriers in Canada.
When Motorola released the XT1225 in India -- renamed the Moto Turbo -- Motorola finally admitted the truth.
Again, ALL the XT1225 models have the same bands enabled -- a Moto Maxx XT1225 = Moto Turbo XT1225, as they all have the same FCC ID. I own two, I know.
Go by the official Moto Turbo XT1225 specs on the Motorola-India site -- they are complete for the XT1225. The "official" Moto Maxx specs on the various Latin American countries's sites (Mexico, Puerto Rico, Chile, Brazil) are incomplete.

Why did Motorola not list all the bands initially? Take your pick...
1) those bands are not important in Latin America
2) Motorola didn't want people doing what we are doing, importing the phones to other countries -- like the USA -- since AT&T nor T-mobile was selling phone.
I really don't know. But the bands are there in ALL the XT1225 Quarks.
@ChazzMatt
This is most valuable information. I will be looking for a XT1225, this will be my next phone if I can find one for a deal. Thank you so much!

I flashed both my Moto Maxx to Moto Turbo 5.0.2 -- including the radio/modem -- so that when I go to sell them I can point to the India Moto Turbo specs.
I don't want to have to argue with buyers that is does or doesn't have HSPA band 4 (important for T-mobile in USA) or LTE band 5 (important for AT&T in USA).
Since I "converted" them (flashed) to Moto Turbo, I can point to those specs.
But the Moto Maxx XT1225 DOES have those bands.
Your op post shows something interesting.... That Brazil Motorola site has been updated at some point to show LTE band 5. I wonder why? A few months ago, none of the official Motorola websites showing specs for the Moto Maxx (Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Chile) showed LTE band 5. They only showed 2, 3, 4, 7, 17. But the FCC tests showed LTE band 5 enabled, and I also found it in modem scanning, and Canadian owners confirmed they are using LTE band 5 on the Moto Maxx.
Now Brazil Motorola just needs to admit to HSPA band 4.
LTE band 5 on XT12225

I know it's been confirmed over and over (initially even by the FCC) that the XT1225 has LTE band 5. Initially Motorola left it out of the official specs for the "international" Moto Maxx XT1225 released in Latin America countries, even though the FCC found it in tests. I think Motorola's original plan was to sell the XT1254 through Verizon and the XT1225 through AT&T, thus it has all the AT&T LTE bands... But then Verizon wanted to claim "exclusive" (which was a LIE) and the plans for AT&T fell apart. Since the Latin America carriers don't use LTE band 5, Motorola didn't bother to list it in the specs when first released (even though it was in the FCC report).
But LTE band 5 was always there and then when Motorola released the XT1225 as the "Moto Turbo" in India, they included all the LTE bands and all the HSPA bands (yes, Motorola left one of those out as well, one used by T-mobile, HSPA band IV).
Before then I found that "missing" LTE band and HSPA band using modem scanning software and users in Canada confirmed LTE band 5 on their carriers.
This last weekend I finally actually saw LTE band 5 being used on AT&T here in Georgia! I was travelling down the interstate between McDonough and Macon and turned on LTE Discovery. I glanced over and saw LTE band 5! For you Pokemon Go players, like finding a very rare specimen! When I looked again, then it said LTE band 2. I thought maybe I had imagined it! But there it is in the logs. ONE instance of LTE band band 5.
Looking at the last screenshot I took back in Februrary, it's not there. Now it is.
By the way, I am using the Puerto Rico radio. That shouldn't make any difference, but to my knowledge Motorola has only admitted LTE band 5 in Brazil and India. But it's there in all the XT1225. Canadian users who confirmed LTE band 5 were using Puerto Rico Moto Maxx. And presumably it was the Puerto Rico Moto Maxx the FCC tested back in 2014, since Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory -- and they found LTE BAND 5.
