Galaxy note 5 battery drain solved with ota update ( android m)???? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I have question, i rooted my phone ( note 5 ). But i regretful , so flashed official rom again(4 files rom) .now everything is good but i have a big problem. My phone have a lot of battery drain in standby (2 hours =10%) and my android system with android os always stay awake and never go to sleep .now i want ask you if samsung release android 6( marshmallow) for note 5 and i update my phone with OTA to android m , my problem ( battery drain) could be improved or solved??? Pls guidance
Tnx

Change to 2g only

I chenged to 2g but still have same issue. Its a bug , maybe solved with android m

I am experiencing the same thing on a different phone (Alcatel Idol 3). I changed from LTE > HSPA+ and the issue still occurs, just a lot less frequently. I thought that it had to do with reception so I started changing my phone to airplane mode and connecting to WiFi when I went to bed. I thought that solved the issue but I had substantial battery drain less night which proves otherwise. Much less frequent occurrence fwiw but still not 100% resolved

Read post above. It is same for all Exynos7420 that I'm aware of.
I have no idea of Android 6 update will fix your issue.
All I can suggest is to re-root with a kernel patched for the deep-sleep bug. A kernel such as my SkyHigh kernel.

I test on my N920C which is same as yours and no reboot. You just need to read SkyHigh OP and installation instructions. Things won't be spin fed.... Take it or leave it.

Follow these steps to stop idle high drain.
On your GPS and select only wifi and Mobile network and off GPS.
Than go into lock and security and other security and than device administration and off all. It might save high idling drain. And syc should be off so that it can't auto syc. Android beam, nfc all other are also at off.

Root with stock ROM is very much liveable for me after applying the deep sleep fix (working perfectly for me):
Deep Sleep Fix - APK
I was having no deep sleep after root, applied this fix & am now getting ~75% deep sleep.
If you don't want to go the APK way, you can meddle with the system yourself (haven't tried this myself though):
Deep Sleep Fix - Manual Way

SM-N920C insane battery drain overnight !!!

Hi guys , i guess its one of the common issues that note 5 users are facing , but i believe my situation is the worst !!
yesterday i have fully charged my note 5 then i slept, and when i woke up today i have touched my phone and it was very hot !! kinda 80c, checked the battery and god ! it was 13% !!!
that's very very weird i mean !! in 7 hours my phone spent 87% of the battery life !!! can anyone please help me ? :crying:
I had similar issue with my phone recently. I installed the latest OS available and now i lose 30% or so battery just letting the phone sit over night. with no notifications or background apps.
Based on which software? The new OK6?
If you tripped knox you cant use the stock kernel even if you have stock firmware. It will not go to deep sleep. You must use the different kernel.

Correct. But you can use one of the modded kernels. There are several in the Android Development thread.
The rooting thread makes it clear that you have to flash a modded kernel after rooting

Yes. If you flash stock (and therefore are not rooted) you can use stock kernel. The Knox flag will still be tripped though

Two main options I would suggest: flash Dr Ketan's L8 ROM if there is a version for your model. It has none of these issues.
Or have a look at the last few pages of http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/how-to-root-note-5-t3205073 - there is an issue with super su 2.6+ and no deep sleep. @drketan is trying a fix which is in that thread.

No - it has been reported occasionally. If I remember rightly one of the causes is a defective image file for Briefing but I may be misremembering.

Can you elaborate more ?
I'm also having this issue. I've flashed stock and wiped data/factory reset but I'm still having this issue. Is there any way I can fix this whilst staying on stock? Also, yes I've already tripped knox.
it is not occasional. Its in the every kernel code on the note firmwares. I linked a post on previous page. If you read it you can get it what I mean. Its samsung side issue and I dont belive its fixed ever. Kernel looks the knox flag and If its tripped makes some memory parts unwritable and when is the boot done try to flush the cache and in the boot process this places maked not writable. Kernel try it over and over again and that is the cause of no deep sleep issue. So it will happen all the note5 variants. Even if you go full stock there will be deep sleep issue once knox tripped. There is no way for the bring back knox to untrip too. I blame samsung on this one.

Samsung might argue it is not their issue and thus they are not fixing it. The Stock Kernel is meant to work with unmodified phones only with Knox=0. Once the Knox is tripped, it is not going to work anymore because they are marking some directories as read only for security reasons if knox is tripped - I would say do not wait for a fix from Samsung so either use a custom Kernel or use a fixed stock kernel on this site from @garyd9 if you want to keep some of the hardware functionality.

Hi,
Yes, you can.
i know it can be a very frustrating issue.
You can try various methods., but it depends.
if you are rooted or stock..?
If you are stock, not rooted, try and use an app like GSam Battery monitor (Google play store) to pin point culprit.
Flashing stock Rom should help. Factory reset i found did not really help me (in past on my other devices.. so i think you will be waisting your time?)
If you are rooted then you can try Betterbattery Stats or Wakelock detector (
Google play)
Also i agree with poster above.
Apps like location services enabled ..etc Google /Facebook / etc can cause wakelocks resulting, in no deep sleep.! Also disabling services.? with apps like eg. Package Disabler ( Have you) can cause wakelocks!, if you get it wrong and disable a certain service and that has a knock on effect, resulting in wakelocks (device not deep sleeping)
It can also be a badly coded 3rd party app etc.
Bottom line, i have always in past, pin pointed the root cause of wakelocks on all my devices .. whether rooted or not.
So yes
patience and Good luck
Post note.
As far as i read in various threads,
if you rooted and using stock kernel then obviously it seems like you are not going to fix your deep sleep issue easily.! as it is a known issue.
It seems like flashing a custom kernel or modified kernel might help.? You already stated that dr ketans fix does not help..?
I am not sure on above issues as my Note5 is not rooted and yes, all my other devices eg. Note 2... 3..4..etc is rooted.

Yes, it is possible. But first you got to have root. I did it yesterday with my 920c and it worked. First flash the stock image of your device, then flash custom recovery of your choice. Go to the recocery and flash the systemless SU from Dr. KETAN's thread about rooting. Notice that you still have stock rom, but it has been patched now. Download dr. ketan's deep sleep fix tool and install giving it a root access. That's it. Let me know if it worked.
By the way, in Gary's thread about rooting stock kernels he's working with CF on systemless root that would include the deep sleep fix. Let's hope it works out.
Yes you can, you need root, root Explorer and this lines.

Best marshmallow ROM for battery life?

I feel like I should be able to find this easily on my own but I'm having more trouble than I anticipated. I've been trying tons of note 7 Roms with no luck battery life wise. At this point I'm looking for any type of ROM that has great duration as long as it's marshmallow.

xposed pretty much works with odexed marshmallow stock firmware you dont need deodexed roms.
On lollipop required deodexed roms for xposed.

I am on Pk2 latest bl\modem i am using stock official firmware but i am rooted with twrp and xposed works just fine on stock rom.i am not using any deodexed rom.
I uninstalled as many built in apps as possible and i got 5hours SOT.
SOT depends on your usage i am always on wifi if i use mobile data the dafinetly i will get less SOT.
brightness always less then 25℅,black wallpaper for homescreen and lockscreen to save GPU energy.
While my device in pocket i always turn on powersaving mode to make cpu deep sleep and hibernate apps by greenify.
By this steps you will get preety good battery life.

Yep absolutely.
You have 2 choices
1st choice ,if you want stock 4.4.4 kitkat then flash N910T2 firmware in odin and do wipe data factory reset after flash .you will be on stock kitkat 100%.
2nd choice, if you want rooted roms like dynamic kat or firekat then you have to flash 5.1.1 OK1 firmware then flash twrp recovery after that from twrp flash any kitkat rom you wish but must flash nadia kernel with kitkat rom otherwise you may stuck on samsung logo because you are on lollipop bl/modem.
Nadia Kernel 4.4.4 is in link below.
https://mega.nz/#!accnkb6B!f_wdM79WXZ2UYy2El87DXYctihB40MBjV4imBKlhoDo
I will not recommend youto go back to kitkat because many apps and games required 5.0 or higher these days kitkat is almost dead but if you will use as basic phone chatting, media etc then its fine.i just noticed that even youtube does not support 1440p/1080p videos on kitkat and there is no option to change quality.
after all its your device and do as you wish i am here to help.
N910T2 stock nonrooted firmware link below
Extract and flash in odin.
https://mega.nz/#!bZ8nFIaA!u67ewIWGe8HRtI8-OdxFUPoXFvpACIKhtQtbnv7KU18
So I grabbed a stock deodexed marshmallow ROM for a week or two and it is surprisingly by far the worst battery life I've ever had heh. I get like 1.5 hrs sot and I have to recharge almost twice a day.
Are there any suggestions? Both for other Roms or for fixing a stock ROM battery life?
Go back to 4.4.4. I get 7+ hours SOT. I never went to MM as I bought a 6P last Feb. I'm getting my Note 4 ready for my mom as shes moving to T-Mobile. After reading a bunch the last day or so it sounds like to much BS going on with any updates above 4.4.4. I remember 5.0 and 5.0.1 were destroying battery life which is why I never updated and 6.01 sounds like to much of a strain or wast optimized properly for the Note 4.
It works like this
Kitkat best battery life but a little choppy and some apps dont work because it to old
Lolopop 5.1.1 (not 5.0.1) is very smoth and has good battery life, but not as good as kitkat.
Marshmelow is the smoothest but has horrible battery life no matter the rom or what you do.
I tried absolutely everything and come to the conclusión that stock 5.1.1. With root + greenify y by far the option. Everything works great and i have about 5 hours sot without having to compromise anything.
I am alzó trying an app that puts the phone in 1080 but still dont know if it makes a diference or not. (ir runs cooler)
