Flash recovery via fastboot [FAIL] - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Before I flashed my phone via fastboot with the command fastboot flash boot twrp.img, but now I'm in problems because yep, recovery is flashed...but always boot on recovery (no needed to press vol keys).
I tried to use ADB commands but says something like "remote command not allowed".
After this the only solution is use flashtool and load a stockROM for write correctly on boot partitions...losing the recovery.
I want to have got a customROM rooted with TWRP recovery, not a stockROM rooted without recovery
I'm opened for choices...or more details.
EDIT: I'm coming from stockROM DE customized 5.1.1 and rooted with KingRoot

In first instance make a fresh installation with stockROM DE customized 5.1.1 to try some customROMs and if I don't like any, load PureX v3 with clean installation.

As long as you don't go for CM, the only thing you have to do is
-Flash stock rom, root and install recovery
-Boot into recovery, do a factory reset and flash the ROM zip

I take a note for make a factory reset before flashing.
I flash the stockROM with FlashTool (OK)
I root w/KingRoot...and maybe to change by SuperSU (OK)
I install TWRP recovery (OK)...but
But every time boot on recovery, really no start the "system": Android, and although I flash new customROM when I reboot is booting ALWAYS on recovery.
When I use the command fastboot flash boot twrp.img the boot sequence -I think- is "corrupted", creating a bypass and making the recovery as normal boot.
The point is what is the fix or other way to install TWRP and from there as usual, flashing, bla, bla. If my phone can't "reboot to system" correctly as much I flash it I can't enjoy the customROMs.
I tried too with the app "TWRP Manager", but not works (rooted, of course). I'm 3-4 times with this recovery "bootloops" only restored with stockROMs and FlashTool.
I hope explained well enought.

The options are shrinking...:crying:
I tried again with TWRP Manager y Rashr, with all ways allowed with each app and nothing. Download, flashing, reboot but not on recovery.

there is another way http://nut.xperia-files.com/ go here then
XZDualRecovery --> XZDualRecovery 2.8.23 --> XZ-lockeddualrecovery2.8.23-RELEASE.combined.zip and download it to your pc, unzip the file and execute the install programm then follow the instruction ( in order to do this you must have Supersu)
PS: Why not try another recovery from the app i told you ( Rashr ). Just download the recovery and press flash.

Finally it's done!:victory::victory::victory:
It has done with XZDualRecovery, it's a pain in ass have to change KingRoot by SuperSU (with Terminal, bla, bla). Give permission to ADB, reboot...and by first time the LED is turned on in rose!! :good:
After check out the recovery I let boot normally and show again the alphanumeric keyboard to type PIN.
Thanks for putting up with me so much.
By the way, are you greek?

You were betrayed by the language modifier of GooglePlay:

Recoveries gone

Hi,
Well, I do have one recovery - cyanogen recovery, all others are gone.
With cyanogen I can't flash gapps or tangerine kernel,so I need my old ones back.
How it happened? Flashed FlexOS,after reboot they were gone, replaced by cyanogen recovery.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

you have to install tangerine if you use lollipop ....go into fastboot mode flash the kernel via fastboot ..reboot and you have twrp or philz
Is it possible that I've lost root? Cause that what root checker says.
P.s. managed to install gapps, will try flashing kernel like suggested tomorrow. Any links on how to do it?
Thanks guys

i have did this from a long time so forgive if it didn't work for you>>> form pc download this zip that i uploaded it for you(https://mega.co.nz/#!y51TmaJR!gSWCWbF_6d3JKbkyjgNzhdfBoKakFvNCCFFvBfRl-cY) extract to C:\fastboot then move the kernel.elf if is it tangerine it will be like this (tangerine.elf)>>>press ctrl+shift on the keyboard and then press open command window here then type: fastboot flash boot (the kernel name.elf) when it's done type fastboot reboot
example: fastboot flash boot tangerine.elf
p.s you have to install the drivers for you phone google it or maybe(Connect your Xperia SP via USB. (Don't forget to enable USB Debugging)
Then run the Software (http://adbdriver.com/downloads/) and choose ur phone, which should be listed in the list.
i hope i helped with this if it didn't work so i'm sorry my friend for wasting your time
good luck :good:
Hi, it's all sorted now.
if someone have same problem this is what I've done:
installed gapps aroma as other packages wouldn't install from cyanogen recovery, then flashed super su also from recovery. after that I was able to install phillz recovery using rashr app from Google store. then from phillz installed tangerine kernel. all good now,
thanks everyone!

[ZE601KL] Official Marshmallow WW_V21.40.1220.1698 ROOT and TWRP install

P/S: Im sorry if im against this XDA or forums rules. Its my first time to post something. If i done something wrong kindly let me know.
Condition: You have Official Marshmallow WW_V21.40.1220.1698 installed on your ZE601KL (I forgot to mention that Im coming from CM13, that makes it need bootloader unlock n root probably?)
TWRP install:
-go into fastboot mode (shut down your phone. press VOL UP + POWER at the same time until it vibrates and release)
-download and install adb (can get it here i guess. credit to @snoop005 )
-download twrp here (credit to maintainer @LuK1337) and put it in the ADB folder
-in ur pc hold shift + right click and click "open command window here" in ADB folder
-type in "fastboot device" and make sure ur device is detected
-type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (recovery.img must be the same name with the twrp that u hv downloaded eg:fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-4-Z00T.img )
-type in "fastboot boot recovery.img" (recovery.img must be the same name with the twrp that u hv downloaded eg:fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-4-Z00T.img )
-look at ur phone and it should be installed
Root install
-download SuperSU (credit to @Chainfire) (thanks to @Cr0ssL1nk for notify me about the updated SuperSU! )
-boot to recovery (shut down your phone. press VOL DOWN + POWER at the same time until it vibrates and release)
-select install and browse for the .zip file location
-wait for the installation done and ure good to go
It works on my ZE601KL!!!
Thank you very much xyexiaoyuer in your first post
I would assume this process is the same for any of the variants for which the bootloader is already unlocked and assuming you use the correct TWRP image.
If nothing else, it should work for any Z00T phone. I'll try it on my ZE551KL tonight.

On the "fastboot boot recovery.img", I first got it to successfully transfer over something, then the second line said that it failed.
I continually did this and got the same results and my phone continued to say "fastboot" in the corner, so I wasn't sure if anything had happened.
I finally "gave up" and pulled the battery but I booted into the Recovery (Vol down + Power) and found that TWRP actually was installed and from there I flashed over SuperSU and was rooted in minutes.
Great job, and thanks! I may be a bit rusty with all this since this is my first Android device in about 3 years.

Does anyone know if it his possible to just boot twrp from adb/ fasboot( not actually flash it), flash SuperSU to root my device, then reboot to stock to keep stock recovery ? My bootloader is unlocked.

Thanks, but I am pretty sure Flashing twrp writes over stock recovery and unless someone else has the stock image, you can't get it back. I don't know how to make a backup of stock recovery, that's why I wondered if only booting twrp will work.

You can boot into TWRP without overwriting your stock recovery using:
HTML:
fastboot boot twrp.img
That would allow you to install SuperSU without actually installing TWRP. If you want to replace stock recovery with TWRP, you would use:
HTML:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

Are you sure your phone is truely rooted and that apps needing root really works ?
Because in the official SuperSU page on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 , the developpers says your phone must already be rooted before flashing SuperSU.
Also, change the 2.76 Beta's link you gived for SuperSU in your tutorial to the 2.76 Stable version from my link to the official SuperSU XDA page.

Welp! now that i check back using "root check" apps it seems that the app hv some trouble to detect whether the phone is rooted. the last time everything was okay except for busybox. Perhaps because i rebooted the device? nvrtheless i will update the link and test the stable supersu given in the link

I don't think rebooting caused this.
The thing that makes me worry is that Busybox was not okay the first time you rooted your phone, because it must be one of the first thing that must be ok when you root a phone.
Have you got any updates on your side about making root really working ?

Because you also must allow SuperSU in ASUS' Autostart Manager, that may be the problem you also got.
But please remember: Do not post something that seems to work but is not, a Beta or something not stable to other people without a lot of checking first

Thanks to everyone's help and ideas and especially to @rczrider. On my ze551kl, I successfully booted the twrp.img in fastboot, did a backup through twrp, then installed supersu zip, and successfully rooted. No overwrite of stock recovery with all the root privileges. Perfect.

Stuck in Oneplus logo. Can't access recovery. Fastboot working.

Hi everyone.
I was trying to flash Nitrogen OS. First I flashed the latest firmware, then the actual rom and then GAPPS. After that my mobile got stuck in Oneplus logo without being able to go into recovery mode.
I tried using fastboot to flash the files in this thread(https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/unbrick-unbrick-tutorial-oneplus-3t-t3515306) which worked once, but even after that I can't surpass the logo screen.
I've been trying to look for information but I can't find anything.
To clarify:
- I already tried erasing userdata and cache from fastboot
-I already tried flashing recovery images from twrp, stock and bluspark
Thanks in advance guys.

Which TWRP are you using? Which firmware are you flashing? You can't access recovery at all? I've run into plenty of bricks like this and I'm usually able to get back to recovery by forcing the device off (vol up + power hold) and rebooting back to recovery. and if that doesn't work I can at least get to the bootloader and re-flash a recovery file.

okay, well what I would do is boot into the bootloader, and then reflash the blu_spark recovery via adb so you can boot into it. then wipe everything and restart. but this time I would try the OB 20 firmware and not the 21. when I was on NOS I used that one and it worked just fine. I'm not sure if it made a difference, but I flashed the firmware both right before and right after flashing NOS

yeah! try fastboot flash recovery "recovery file name".img
make sure that recovery img file is in the platform-tools file (or wherever your adb files are) and see if that works!

I mean idk if you wanna do this, but you could always try to "format userdata", then flash the stock recovery, and then sideload OOS. but you would lose all of your data in your internal storage, and it's still not a guarantee. there are some posts about doing a full wipe and starting from scratch. I'd look into those. Best of luck reviving your OP3T

just a tip, try posting the output instead of "it's not working",

I already post a lot of information on the first post:
Mobile not passing the first time Oneplus logo appears.
Only fastboot is working, not adb, not recovery.
I already tried flashing other recoveries and the stock one->Can't pass Oneplus logo anyway
Tried formatting userdata through fastboot and flashing the .img files from my first post->Not working
Then just do the Qualcomm restore and unlock, boot to fastboot and flash the latest TWRP. Then boot into TWRP and format cache partitions, system and data and then adb sideload using this option under TWRP advanced to flash firmware zip, NitrogenOS zip and then 8.1 Gapps and try booting to see if same thing happens again. You are using the NitrogenOS stock kernel and not some other?

What do you mean by the Qualcomm restor and unlock? I already tried the flashing of latest TWRP and it did not work.
I was coming from Validus last beta but did a previous factory reset and that stuff.
Thank you for the answer

What he meant is probably unbrick tool - https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/unbrick-unbrick-tutorial-oneplus-3t-t3515306
Try flashing official firmware with it and then try again by flashing TWRP and flashing Nitrogen.

I can't install the drivers:
-First, stupid Windows policy saying that its driver is the best one available.
-Second, choosing from a disk to avoid one saying that the driver is not a x64 one.

None of that answer what he actually asked, which is: what was the output (error message, result, etc.) when you tried to flash TWRP?
Did it flash successfully, but still can't boot to TWRP? Or else, what was the exact error message?
In general, when asking for help and giving status, be specific as possible, and give as many details as possible. Saying you "tried xxx" or "it did not work" is not specific enough.
Seems silly, but I've seen a lot of times where it's as simple as the user not using the correct command or entering the right file name.

There were no errors when flashing TWRP. When I tried rebooting using fastboot(fastboot boot recovery.img) it got stuck in the message saying booting up... and the only thing that changed was that my phone left the bootloader screen to a screen with the Oneplus logo and a fastboot mode message under it.
The command I used was fastboot flash recovery recovery.img(Name of the actual recovery file)

help please root mi8

hello everyone
Buy a Chinese mi8, unlock it waiting for the days that xiaomi tells you.
I installed the global version, and everything works correctly, but I want to change the rom.
I've tried to install TWRP with adb and it's impossible, it tells me the ADB template that OKEY, but never restarts in recovery mode with TWRP, so I can not install magisk, or any rom that is not official.
Is there any way to install a ROM (.zip) without TWRP?, how do I do Root without magisk? Has it happened to anyone?
thanks!
First of all, you're in the wrong section.
Second you should install via fastboot as described a thousand times AND reboot directly to your TWRP image via fastboot command.
The you can flash another from and root it.
Third, I'd like to strongly advice you to do some research about android, flashing etc to make sure that you know what you are doing.... So many people are moaning about bricked devices....

It's not the first cell phone I've flashed that you're not smart.
I have followed the steps as they are, and as you can see in the image, everything seems to be installed correctly. But whenever I restart in recovery mode, I get the xiaomi no twrp.
Do you know why?

You are trying to be smart? Well...
Why didn't you post your exact steps with fastboot in the first post?
Now it's clear what you did wrong. I already expected it. And you did NOT read what I wrote:
You are rebooting your device with fastboot reboot. In this case your twrp is wiped out by the XIAOMI recovery. Use: fastboot boot yourimagename.
btw, why are you using such an old TWRP? You won't be able to flash actual roms.
So I'd like to come back to my advice in the first answer....

Thanks for the help.
But all the steps that indicate, I have passed them and I never install the TWRP correctly.
1. my mobile phone is unlocked (with the padlock open)
2. I have the official rom installed
3. I try to install twrp with all the commands you have told me, and I never restart the mobile with twrp. I've tried new, intermediate and older versions. and nothing
Is there any way to install an unofficial rom without TWRP?

You can't flash a ROM without TWRP and Magisk is the only way you can root your phone that I know of. If you don't even know these simple things/haven't done simple research you might risk to softbrick or even hardbrick your new and shiny phone. There are many guides on how to flash TWRP but you can PM me if you want more help.
Also you don't install TWRP with adb, you need to use fastboot...

5. Run CMD as Administrator then cd to the installed Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder. (Ex: cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot)
6. Use this command on your cmd: fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.3-0-dipper.img
7. Then: fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-0-dipper

Hello rose, can you re-explain your concern, I don't really understand.
In my opinion you forgot to do something before or after, you followed the tutorial from the XDA forum.

well , frankly i did something stupid , i flashed wrong boot.img using twrp , the device works but
1- if shut down , can turn it up only with cable to pc pluged
2- every time i flash rom and make reboot , it goes directly to twrp interface ( goes only to recovery mode) no matter what the rom is
Hello rosen, at the beginning once you have installed TRWP and magisk it works or not normal start you did not make a backup with TRWP backup. , if not forget TRWP and do as I did just magisk .
Yes to start with twrp recovery you have to connect to a pc and manipulate power + bixby + high volume.

What? You not have stock kernel? For root Android and TWRP you not need custom kernel.
For root stock Android you need patch AP file with Magisk, patch TWRP with magidsk and vbmeta.
I did it like this: #2,724
Without patch TWRP with Magisk you not can have root Android and TWRP. You can have only root Android or TWRP.
