[XT1092] Mashmallow 6.0 battery life not so good? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've upgraded my XT1092 reteu to 6.0 to have better battery standby but I'm disappointed little bit, it's not better then 5.1 LP. I'm loosing 7-10% overnight (~8h) even with mobile data and wifi disabled. I think it should be 4-5% at most. I've installed BetterBatteryStats and did some dumps:
BetterBatteryStats-2015-12-31_055708652_data_and_wifi.txt - it's my regular "state", data and wifi enabled overnight. As you can see, there was 1.3% drop per hour! I can see a lot of wakelocks from *net_scheduler*, RILJ and even NlpCollectorWakeLock (I have location disabled all the time!). The most interesting are kernel wakelocks: qcom_rx_wakelock and qpnp-vadc-ed22ea00. First one is wifi related and probably caused by broadcast&multicast packets within my home network. but what is qpnp-vadc-ed22ea00???
BetterBatteryStats-2016-01-04_061302678_nodata.txt - it's latest dump with data and wifi disabled. Better (0.8% /h) but still not good. I can see NlpCollectorWakeLock but my location services are disabled. And there is "famous" qpnp-vadc-ed24ea00 kernel wakelock.
Anyone can write something useful about this dumps? What is your experience with battery life on 6.0 MM?

Maybe someone can post BBS dump to compare with mine, please?

[Q] Battery consumption Zeus rom

I'm on zeus 6.22o, my battery consuption is high, tried 6.22n but is the same and o version works better for me. I have always 3g on; in stock froyo and cm7 nightlies with 3g on and same apps and config I had better batttery life and the phone normaly went to deep sleep when I turn screen off and had considerably less wakelocks, battery graph was quite horizontal.
I have installed betterbatterystats and the problem is:
-Partial wakelocks: Datatracker-FD
-Kernel wakelock: PowerManagerService
-Alarms: com.google.android.gsf (gtalk_reconnect; gtalk_heartbeat)
They produce the most wakelocks.
I have freeze gtalk app with titanium because don't use it but it isn't the problem and waakelocks are the same.
Does anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks and sorry if my english is not good enough.
-Kernel wakelock: PowerManagerService
-Alarms: com.google.android.gsf (gtalk_reconnect; gtalk_heartbeat)
gsf = google services framework
are not causing preoccupations, these are system relevant things. A wakeup isn´t at all a bad thing. Bad is when a process begins to work an to force the cpu for a prolonged time.
-Partial wakelocks: Datatracker-FD
Try to turn fastdormancy off maybe your provider don´t support this.
All this things don’t explain a higher battery consumption.
Regards!
Thanks. I tried disable fast dormancy but it doesn't help and causes problems with data network. Awake time is about twice the screen on time and these are the only with high values in betterbatterystats. Other apps are the same I was using in stock froyo and cm7 (in both I had better battery life): go launcher, whatsapp, hotmail (never had battery problems with it), tapatalk, sygic,a few games, mjoy.

Now I'm experimenting a huge battery drain due change WiFi policy to "never" turn off. It leads to a consumption of 4-5% per hour. Normally, with turning Wi-Fi off, there is a consumption with 3G on, of 3-5% in 8 hours.
BetterBatteryStats since unplugged:
Kernel Wakelocks: "wlan_rx_wake" 30%
Cpu-Spy reports for the same time CPU-activity from 300MHz.
Tried change Wi-Fi voltage via Zeustweaker, but doesn't seem to work. Changing 20 - 14 -10 -8 - 2, no matter in range of Wi-Fi nor in indication of the Wi-Fi symbol in the notification bar (of course switched Wi-Fi off/on after each change).
Someone an idea?
It's like some app maintains your wifi connection active long time.
In 3g my conumption is about 12% in 8 hours without use.

I think that if you select "never" at the Wifi sleep policy then it actually never disconnects from Wifi, which in turn means that the phone can't enter deep sleep. At least for me it always worked that way, even on another android phone.
Thank you verszipo for your hint. The rest of the time (70%) the cpu is in deep sleep. I will try this in v10, because I think this old one is a lot better programmed than the v20.
Although wifi was always connected it doesn't mean that is always active, like with 3g when is connected but arrows aren't blue. I think it can be an app that keep wifi active or an error in wifi on v20.

I agree with you, jes0411.
Now I can confirm, that the v10 based Nova8 have the same behaviour like the v20 based Zeus 6.22. So this not seem to be a Zeus specific issue. Maybe cause by LG´s provided code or an generally android issue?
I installed a fresh Zeus 6.23 without any app beside cpustats, betterbatterystats and of course the apps inside de Rom. Here the results with Wifi policy “never”:
CPU SPY:
Total State time (approx. values): 13h
From This: 7h 15 min deep sleep, 3h 20 min by 300MHz, 2h 8min by 600MHz, 10 min 800MHz
BETTER BATTERY STATS since unplugged (approx. values):
Kernel Wakelock:
wlan_rx_wake 4h 20min, wlan_wake 1h, PowerManagerService 8min
Other:
Wifi On, Wifi Running, No Data Connection, No or Unknown Signal: all this 13h 9min 21s
Deep Sleep 7h 15min, Awake 5h,54min, Srceen On 15min
Partial Wakelocks (all insignificant):
WifiStateTracker 3min 55s, *Wifi* 2min 51s, GTALK_ASYNC_CONN 41s, AlarmManager 37s
Alarm (also all insignificant):
com.google.android.gsf 46Wakeups, android 10wakeups, com. android.vending 1wakeup.
BATTERY CONSUMTION: 47% in 13h of inactivity: approx. 3,6% per h
RESUMING:
Wi-Fi policy “never” causes an inexplicable CPU-activity of around of 40% of the time where the phone is unused. No application seem to cause this behaviour. The CPU not only is waked up, it has to work, so that around 40% of the wakeup time the CPU operates with 600MHz.
WiFi is NOT used for Data-transfer!
CONCLUSION AND FURTHER STEPS:
This is an not acceptable behaviour!
I will freeze vending, gtalk and gmail with titanium and observe it again. I also will change the Governor to OndemandX and use a Firewall.
Stay tuned!
I have a feeling for some reason that Froyo was better from Gingerbread in terms of battery consumption,
Is it true? What are the improvements on Gingerbread?
To be honest, in battery consumption I don't see any difference between the v10 (Froyo) and v20 (GB). The only what I see as advantage in v20 is the more fluid reacting user interface.
Negative points in v20:
- Removed the led attenuation of the keys
- Removed the possibility of use key leds for call, charging, sms... notification
- No stable reconnect to WiFi with hidden SSID
- Buggy music player
Also again thank you LG (this is sarcasm).
Since publication, from now around 4 months, they haven't fix this. I fear that ICS will be the same trash.
RESULTS of testing:
Results of freezing apps vending (google play), gtalk and gmail:
none, wlan_rx_wake still in huge consumption
Result of Use Firewall: no change, wlan_rx_wake still in huge consumption
Result changing governor from Smartass to OndemandX: no change, wlan_rx....
Result of switching of my WiFi-router: Success, wlan_rx_wake doesn’t appear, battery drain in normal way (around 0,3% per h).
CONCLUSION:
This huge battery drain caused by Wi-Fi is a result of the combination of an P970 and a specific Wi-Fi routers. A Google search results that not only our device is affected, also found Samsung Galaxy S2 and Note.
SOLUTION:
Buy another router or an other not Android-based phone.

Hey Pacos1 (fellow Spanish here)
I dont own an Lg but I do own a Galaxy s2 and now Im having the same problem as you guys but in a veeeeeery reduced manner, those wakelogs due to the wlan are call for around 3-4 % of my battery, still good battery life altogether. The reason Im posting here is to let yo guys know that i didnt have this problem before, I didnt even see the wlan wakelogs in the list of betterbatterystats since they were so little, and this is due to a change in the kernel, which is exactly what rules the wifi behaviour, I suggest you change it and try a different one if you have the chance and youll probably experience a change.
Cheers ( y saludos)
Thanks paieneso for the hint and this is truly the solution. I tried the CM7 build78 from temasek, which comes with another kernel than the stock one (and stock derivates like Zeus) and the wlan_rx_wake issue disappeared.
(ironic mode on) So, thank you LG, once again! (ironic mode off)
But now is a new stock rom out, the Spanish v20Q, will test it if this one makes a better job.
Saludos!
PS: Sorry, I forgot this thread and also to post the “solution” of wlan_rx... .
The new stock v20Q have still the wlan_rx_wake bug!

[Q]Heavy battery drain when on WiFi

Hello everyone, there are many, many threads for our phone, so it is basically impossible to properly search and see if this question has been asked before and so here it goes.
I've tried many roms for my device (I call it Sir Hangsalot), and I have noticed that on almost every rom there is a huge issue for my device to keep itself in a deep sleep state when the WiFi is on. The ratio is approximately 70/30% awake vs. deep sleep (I am talking when the screen is off and the phone is not being used). Then I have tested with the WiFi off (mobile data still on, it is always on since I have an unlimited data plan) and the phone enters deep sleep as usual, but this time it stays in deep sleep and battery is discharging properly. From the moment I switch on the WiFi the same behaviour emerges again. This is the last night's situation. New battery (1 month old, 1700 mAh), fully charged at 1 AM, at 7 AM 54% left with the WiFi on. The night before, same conditions, WiFi off and mobile data on, at 7 AM 91% left.
So, my question is: what the hell is wrong with our WiFi which is causing this huge battery drain and is there a fix (rom, kernel, module, script, anything)?
Regards.

Sorry for late reply.
Go to Settings > Wifi > Advanced settings and uncheck the box "Network notification" ( Notify me when an open network is available) in wifi settings, also uncheck "Scanning always available" .
Use Greenify app to freeze apps ( apps frozen will stay closed until you open them again).
These should reduce battery draining.
Thanks for the reply. I always turn off those things in wifi advanced settings, and regarding greenify I am not sure that it will help since I have this issue in every rom, even in a barebone rom without installing any app or gapps. I thought that maybe google play services could be the culprit here, but even without gapps I have a severe battery drain when wifi is on. When using mobile data everything is just fine. I really cannot find an answer for this.

Stock jb bloated should also drain much battery when there is a network connection.
I don't have more ideas... But why you keep wifi on overnight? Do you have facebook app/ what'sapp / viber / etc. ? These drain battery alot, that's why you need to greenify them.
And why you use wifi since you have unlimited data plan?
To be honest, my battery drain too when i have wifi on, but not so much. In this evening, i will put my wifi on and i will let you know how much battery i have left tomorrow.
It will be interesting to see your results, thanks. I do indeed have WhatsApp installed (after setting up my device completely) but the behaviour is the same regardless, even after fresh install and no other than the core system apps (stock, cm 10, 11, 12, aosp, carbon, vanir, LS, tried them all). Regarding leaving wifi on all the time it is the matter of habit. Since I've been using an android phone from the start (from cupcake on Huawei U8220 to lollipop on a few devices) and I have never had this kind of problem. Oh, well, I will try to keep it off and turn it on only when I need faster internet speed (my data plan is unlimited but it does not have download speed as my wifi).
Cheers!

I tested two days. Wifi drain battery 15-20% for me. Hmm, maybe i have some wakelocks, not sure. I will check and i will let you know if i can solve this problem.

Very disappointed in OP3t battery life. Not sure what to do.

I'm coming from a OnePlus One. Unfortunately, I can't find reliable BLP571 replacement batteries in the U.S., so I purchased a new OP3t.
On the OPO, I have been running custom MM and N-based ROMs. When the OPO (currently running Nougat 7.1.1 on TugaPower 2.1) is sitting around doing nothing, I typically see my idle battery current drain at around 9 uA to 14 uA and Wakelocks around 10%. Of course, when I turn the screen on, these jump up.
On the OP3t, I have tried running both OOS 3.5.4 and the new TugaPower 4.0 (which is based on Nougat 7.1.1). When the OP3t is supposedly doing nothing, I saw an idle current of around 85 mA on OOS 3.5.4, and around 35 mA on TugaPower. I didn't check the Wakelocks on OOS 3.5.4, but the Wakelocks on TugaPower are around 93% awake time (!!!!).
When I wake up in the morning, the OP3t is down to around 75% battery. For reference, my OPO used to be around 98% overnight when the battery was new. Even now, my ancient OPO with a nearly useless battery is around 85% for the same overnight time period.
What can I do?
3.5.4 actually has drain issues, try 3.5.3
Even after the annoying wake-locks and the random battery drain that just happens because why not... I still manage to get 5-6 hours of SOT, I have managed to push it till around 9 hours if I keep the Bluetooth and data off; with Greenify and using the aggressive doze it has helped but I don't get any notifications until I turn my screen back on.. Which is fine with me, as I get texts and calls. It's much better than the nexus 6 and the galaxy s4 which would struggle to even get 4 hours of on screen time. There are plenty of people raising issues about battery life on the OnePlus3T even though its probably much than your last device. XDA also has plenty of threads already created talking about the same subject.
Edit - I'm on the latest nougat update 4.0.1
the 3T or OOS doesnt have any drain or bad battery issues.
the problem is user/user-app based.
sort out the app which is causing the problem.
I just made a post to a similar thread. It seems the battery issue is hit or miss. At any rate, please check my post here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70581453&postcount=9
Let me know if this helps you out. Look forward to feedback.

You stole my thunder.
Just kidding, but you're absolutely correct. I'm waiting to get my OP3T and then I will write a tutorial for users to help them out with the battery. Those 2 apps will be in my tut along with a few others that are helpful!
Weird, usually my phone, while idle of course, drains by 1% every 2 and a half to 3 hours. During use while im not playing games or anything im using pixel filter. Most time ive gotten is 9 hours 32 mins screen time. Im on 4.0.1 not rooted. Just uninstall apps u dont really need like amazon, youtube, facebook, tumblr and so on and use Firefox web browser. Firefox has background play for YouTube or any other audio source so you can stream music on Spotify soundcloud or whatever you want. I basically rely on Firefox for all internet things as if my phone were a PC. Saves time and battery because with 6gb ram my browser never slows down or reloads. Firefox is also really nice in the background consuming only 10mah every hour when not active or streaming audio. Cutting down ur app count will allow your device to doze longer, fetch less data and it certainly drains far less. Also if you're into this sort of thing, boot times are much quicker too.
Edit: sorry for the unedited massive paragraph here.
Another Edit: Make sure in case you want to use battery saver mode while streaming music to toggle Firefox to have unrestricted data usage in the data saver menu.
Check the link in my signature. My drain wasn't quite as bad but might help you figure it out. Good luck!
Thanks, guys! Greenify + ForceDoze seems to be helping a LOT! I'll need to let it run a few days to see the the real-world numbers.
I am having a problem adding apps to the ForceDoze Whitelist, though. Is that a known issue?

I've found that the whitelist appears blank until you add or remove an app, then the whole list will appear.
For me at times something appears to kick in in the background causing the CPU to spike and the phone to heat up. I can't figure out what it is though. When this isn't happening the battery drain is virtually zero and the phone flatlines overnight ,when it kicks in,the battery loses about 10% an hour on idle. I think there might be faulty drivers or something in the ROM causing this?! It's not apps as it happens to me on a completely debloated ROM with no apps. This is on Lineage and OOS. I've never seen this before on the phones I've had.

OOS 4.01 - I am experiencing exactly what you describe at 12%/hr and I have done literally all of the suggestions here. I have greenify, force doze, turned off location, disabled swift, did a factory reset and installed only 1 or 2 apps- and still I can watch battery drain with:
4 hours off charger and down to 44% with:
Kernel (android OS) 42.5%
Android System 33.7%
Google Play services 2.4%
Blah...Blah... (much smaller %'s)
What the heck could be causing this kind of drain? It seems to flatline when not in use for a while...
thoughts? Love the phone., but it is not usable like this....
4.0.1....No battery saving apps..

Hello,
I usually use Greenify Paid Version + Amplify Paid Version but only in 6.X roms in 7.X Xposed isn´t released yet....
Do you recommend use Greenify + ForceDoze (I never heard about this app) even without Xposed?
Thanks in advance.
I am still struggling with battery performance on my new OP3t.
I am running TugaPower N10 (LineageOS 7.1.1) + Better Battery Stats + Battery Monitor Widget + ForceDoze + Greenify.
While my wakelocks seem to be pretty short now, my lowest average current drain is 35 mA. For reference, my old OnePlus One had a lowest average current drain of 7 mA, or about 5x more on the OP3t.
My battery meter reflects the higher drain.
I have the same apps installed, maybe even some less.
Looking for more assistance ...
I'm on 4.0.3 OOS and using Franco kernel, 2% drain during all night, 5 hours of screen on time and still 56% battery, check what is wrong with your apps, or move from Lineage to OOS, is simply better.
EDIT: I'm not using any app like ForceDoze or Greenify
I'm not dissapointed.

Odd battery life

Hello,
Since the purchase of my phone XZ1 Compact (G8441), I've been experiencing barely acceptable battery life. This is especially frustrating since I bought this phone having heard that it can last easily 2-3 days, but this is not the case for me (discharging about 4%h on average or 2.5%h with screen off on either wifi or mobile data, with various configurations outside/home/office, i.e. in practice never usable more than a day).
According to *#*#SERVICE#*#*, the battery life is still good (2704 mAh). The issue I am experiencing is most likely due to an unknown software and/or hardware failure leading to lots of wakelocks that prevent the phone from "sleeping"/"dozing" correctly.
I know that MANY users worldwide are experiencing this and Sony never gave an answer to this, according to e.g. the following threads:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...-drain-after-update-47-1-A-12-235/m-p/1337029
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...-drain-after-47-1-A-12-205-update/m-p/1328053
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1-compact/help/battery-life-bit-odd-t3688342/page8
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-XZ1-Compact/High-battery-drain/m-p/1326474 https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...-drain-after-update-47-1-A-12-270/m-p/1340671 https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...pie-battery-drain-CPU-idling-high/m-p/1354891
and many others
In my case the items "NlpWakeLock" and "RILJ_ACK_WL" activate both up to thousands of times every hour. No relevant information could be found about this in the web lookups I've done, and I am not sure this is related to the issue I'm facing. I joined a log of today's better battery stats with a pathetic 1h20 of SOT and 65% discharge, a huge count of wakelocks except when I was listening to music, and an apparent faster discharge with the idle phone than when actually used.
The phone is running the latest downloadable Sony firmware 47.2.A.10.107.
Of course, factory reset was tried with no amelioration and I tried to contact directly Sony which have basically no willingness to help or investigate.
Anyone would have a clue about this?
Thanks,
Alexandre
Do you use Google Now (google assistant) - NlpWakeLock
If not, disable it and see what happens.
This little phone I have for battery life and for banking/authenticator/etc. Not for work. So I have disabled most things I do not need (adb uninstall) - so the battery is quite good on standby.
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, as I don't use GoogleNow, the whole Google App is already disabled...
I'll try and do some adb uninstall and will keep you posted

Looking at the bbs stats. The first thing I noticed is that your wifi is on all the time. Try turning it to only when awake and disable the wifi scanning in locatin settings.
RIL wakelocks are on because you have poor signal, it's the number of handhakes your phone does with the local cell tower and if you have bad signal, it gets higher.
Some providers offer home 4g boosters for your home or 'calls over wifi', either of these would reduce your battery usage.
My phone has been flawless (2-3 days on battery when I don't play games) but suddenly it started behaving like described in the original post.
It has 1 day life now and I haven't found the reason for this change. I have removed all recently installed apps, removed all unnecessary apps (including Facebook app), disabled running in background for some (like Messenger), there was no firmware update at that time. Still something is eating up the battery. SmartPanel tool shows that 58% of battery is Unaccounted (next is display and Google Services). I have not done the factory reset yet because I need fully configured phone right now.

Note 9 Battery Usage on Wifi

So this is my last resort as i have literally tried everything else already. Recently (speaking a month or so) i have noticed a severe drop in sot on my Note 9 aswell as overnight drain of ~20% with no Apps running. After several tests i have come to the conclusion that the drain seems to stem from having either Wifi or LTE enabled. Now i am aware that both of those require a decent amount of Power in active use, but it does not explain the sudden extreme drain where as before it was ~ 5-6% overnight.
Things i have tried: Replaced the battery, Factory reset, Cache wipe, Disabling all Apps, etc..
The only thing that really worked was disabling Wifi or LTE. Now my question is, has someone had similar issues or can someone provide an App that actually shows Android System Battery usage for Galaxy Devices again? According to the built in Battery Manager Apps only draw about 3% of the 20% that are gone overnight.
Any help or info would be much appreciated.
Device Information:
Note 9 SM-N960F Dual Sim Exynos
Android 10 Latest Update (Nov 6 2020)
OneUi Version 2.5
Bump, really no one who has the same issue?
Try booting your device into Safe Mode and see if that happens. If it doesn't then there is an app on your device that is constantly updating the data to the server and is causing the battery drain. You will have to uninstall it.
