So pretty much I ordered my nexus 7 right when it was announced, and due to a shipping error Google wanted another 8 weeks to get it to me from release so I canceled my order. Being the impatient idiot that I am I went and bought a new one off eBay. I am aware of the screen separation issue and it seems that it is affecting my unit on the left side of the screen. It annoys me a bit but I'll live. But my question is will the screen separation slowly get worse and spread? I haven't found a very clear answer.
I would say yes. Mine was 100% fine when I got it, 11 days ago and now has lift and creaking. Seems not as responsive. Sounds like bad first batch

Hmm I really hope that isn't the case with mine because I don't think I'll be able to get Google to replace it because I bought it from eBay. I haven't noticed much of change with mine from day one, but it'd be nice to hear responses from a few other people so I know how screwed I am hahahaha
And I bet you paid 2x the price with no warranty so it can't be fixed now

All N7s are under warranty. The hardware has a 1yr warranty. Google will fix it.

Thank you. I'm just not sure if its worth replacing at this time because of how back ordered the tablets are. I'm on vacation so I don't have the ability to talk to google right now I just hope the screen doesn't fall apart on me.

I got 2 defective N7's....returned them. My plan is to wait until the 2nd "batch" with no defects. Maybe in few months, I will try again.
You should probably return and do what I (and many others), are doing. Wait.
My thinking was, I paid $275 for this, and its defective. Did I come looking for a perfect tablet? Yes. Not a defective one. Its really your call, but I can tell you the problem won't get any better.
Cheers
Mine was just noticeable on day one, within days the screen was visibly moving just by handling the tablet.
So there is every chance it will get worse so I would say get it replaced.
By the same token, there is every chance a replacement will have the same problem and just as much chance that you will get a perfect unit that develops a fault later on.
Suppose it's down to what yo are prepared to put up with.
Personally, if it turned out every unit in the world had a problem I would live with it and just try to find a fix but knowing that there ARE perfeclt good units out there makes it harder to live with.
I'm planning on getting a warranty from squaretrade for the tablet. Mine is fine but just in case something develops down the line I like to have peace of mind
Eh. $40 for a $200 device seems a little much.
kinda off topic but
my screen started something very strange today..
it has these little lines about 1/2 inch long running up and down it at random locations. It looks kinda like some type of render tearing. When you twist the tablet from side to side they kinda glow then go away. They look off shades of the colors being produced by those pixels.. I just noticed this thread and thought i would post here instead of starting another Thread.. Hope you do not mind.
Its so faint i cant get a picture of it at all. Sorry about this.. My question is has anyone ever seen anything like this.. It reminds me of the grid if code on matrix but its not that bad . its always at the same position until you power off then they are right back but different / random locations. They are not lined up in any way except it runs same directing. vertically

ouch my nexus7 it slid off my bed apparently. I didnt see how it fell, it was in a case but it didnt save it. I heard the thud, turned and feared the worse. it goes across the screen so its rather large.
its the 2012 32 gb version. Is it fixable??? most of the screen doesnt work, i can touch the notification area and it responds, but no where else, so it is basically inoperable. I google some stuff about replacing the digitizer or the screen? or both? how would i know what I need?
on another note, its the 2012 version and i could probably use an upgrade on the 2014 or whatever the new one is. But i definitely would like to repair this and get a new one. I hate having to let go of stuff like this and would like to repair it.
Check out on ebay you have to change the glass, digitizer and lcd (too risky to change the glass+digitizer) its fairly easy. You can check outr some teardown on google too and youtube. Good luck

My wife's n7 had a similar problem, but it's one of my children that stepped on it lol, it was going to cost £160 for Asus to fix it and the tablet only cost £200 brand new at the time so I just got some insurance on it from currys for £3 a month then got them to fix it lol

hmm thats a nice idea, i might find something like that locally here. well I ended up going on craigslist and looking at local ads of nexus 7, and I saw someone selling a nexus 7 16gb for $100. I emailed and asked if it was still available and how firm they were. They replied saying they can let it go for 80 if I come right now. I just returned about an hour ago with a 16gb nexus 7. I am currently in the process of rooting with a rom as my 32gb was. I still wanna fix my 32gb so I will try this idea or something similar.

So this would work with square trade? The idea of getting insurance on my nexus even though it is already broken?
Yeah if they don't ask to see it your fine

How is it fraud, I asked currys if they needed to see the tablet and they no because it was less than a year old they didn't ask if it had a broken screen and I've still got the insurance so there getting there money back anyway so think before accusing people of fraud
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Its fraud because it was suggested above that insurance gets placed on the device AFTER there has been damage to the device. It was suggested that the insurance company wouldn't verify the condition...it's exactly what it sounds like...fraud.

Ok, So, I found this girl on my local face book and she sold me a Nexus 6 that has a shattered screen for 50$ I couldn't pass up the deal and I did contact Motorola who said that they would replace the screen for 175$ So, I am getting a great deal. The kicker is that I have no clue if it is reported stolen or what. She let me come to her house and assured me it wasn't and that she just didn't have the money to pay the 175$ for the insurance. Anyways, what do you guys think? should I send it in to Motorola? Can they keep the phone if there is something shady going on with it? It is from T Mobile from what she said. But I didn't get anything but the phone. I do have some sign of life. I just plugged it in and a green light came on up top but I have no screen action. The screen is shattered but the rest of it is in excellent condition.
As of now I have the One Plus One and I am debating on which phone is the keeper if everything does work out with it. Is there anyone else coming from the OPO who has an opinion of the 2 phones?
Any advise on my situation is highly appreciated!
Motorola won't keep it, they're not the mobile phone police.
With that said, who is this idiot girl? Why on earth would she sell a $650 phone, even with a crack screen for $50?
That's sounds shady if you ask me. Check the IMEI online and see if it might be black listed. If nothing cones out its at least worth fixing because that's a steal.
---------- Post added at 10:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 AM ----------
Also T-Mobile will black list phones if they aren't gift l bought out right and the account holder doesn't pay for it.
Even with a crack screen and bad IMEI number it's still worth more then the $50 he paid for it.

I don't know why she would do it but I do know a good deal when I see it. LOL! The digitizer isn't working so there is no way for me to get an IMEI # unless I open the back? I hate to invest in the new screen and it be blacklisted. Does anyone know if the IMEI # is located in the device if I took the back cover off? I don't know of another way to check unless I go ahead and fork over the $ for the new screen.

I just ran through a teardown of the N6, and it doesn't appear as if there are any stickers on the inside that would list the IMEI on the inside of the device. It would seem that the only way to know for sure would be to take the gamble on having the screen fixed.
Personally I'd get it repaired and take the gamble. It is very suspicious that she didn't give you the included box, if she did buy it what good would she have by keeping the box?
$50 is not that bad and the repair cost isn't too bad either. Take the gamble and see what happens.

Repair it because its worth the risk. Worst case she senario you will need a new imei but we aren't allow to discuss pushing new imei numbers to black listed phones on XDA but a quick google search could help you should you need it.

Well, Great news so far. I checked the IMEI # from the tray and it came back legit. So, I am winning so far! Thanks for all of the advise from everyone.
Now, I need to decide if I want to keep the Nexus over my OPO. I love my OPO but have been having an itchy finger to get the N6...We shall see!
Thanks again everyone!
DUDE!!! I have to share this...I called Motorola and told them that I got the phone from someone who didn't want to pay the insurance to fix it. They ran the IMEI # and I pre paid 175$ on a credit card and they sent me a new nexus 6 in the box with everything! Unopened!!! All I have to do is send the old phone back within a few days and I have just gotten a new N6 for 225$!!!Ya baby!!!
I couldn't honestly decide on what phone to keep between the Oneplus one and the N6 so I posted both on Craigslist and I said the first one that sold is the one I will get rid of and keep the other. Within 15 minutes of my post someone bought my One plus 1. So, fate has it that I have an N6! Now time to get this puppy flashed and dialed in. Thanks again !

I came from a OnePlus One, you won't regret it. Yeah the N6 is more wide but you'll get used to it, once you use the N6 you'll wonder why every other phone wasn't wide to begin with. OnePlus One does have better battery life but thats not to say that the N6 can't survive a full day without charging.
But congratulations, nice to see Motorola's customer service is quite nice.

Yeah your name sounds pretty familiar. I missed the Nexus community and it felt more true to "AOSP" as OPO ROMs/kernels heavily relied upon CM as they had a number of device specific code/commits.
I'm glad you're enjoying the device, a lot of N5 -> OPO -> N6 converts. I probably will skip on the OnePlus Two (or whatever its called).
I made my own custom ROM if you wanted to give it a try, if not then no bad feelings
Is there anyone on here that can replace just the screen on the Nexus 6 for less than $100 ? I lost my job a few weeks ago and I am looking for new employment, and to top that off I dropped my Nexus 6 and I saw someone else post about this as well, but I am looking to pay someone to do this that has successfully replaced the screen on a N6 before. The screen is worth $175 by itself, sorry man. If you can get together the money you can contact Motorola and pay them the $175 ot get it sorted though.

I have worked with the software side in Android for a long time, but doing hardware for me has always been a bit tricky. Don't I need specialised tools to remove the screen and and stuff ? I used to work a mobile repair shop and I used to flash phones from one carrier to another using CDMA workshop and we had a guy that acually repaired the phones and he seemed to have magnifying glass to see the little chips of glass in the screen, and different tools to remove the screen. I'm not saying I wouldn't do it, but it seems risky considering I don't have dummy phones to test it on first, and if I open that phone up and mess it up more, wouldn't Motorola refuse to replace the device for $175 ?

I wonder if 'refurbished' means a new battery inside.
Probably not.
A good phone with a 3 year old battery.
For the price you mentioned, I would prefer a cheap phone with a new battery.

You should be able to find one alot cheaper then that on eBay or Amazon etc.
I find the Nexus 6 great for my use.
I generally have a bad feeling about refurbished items. I much prefer buying used things locally, directly from the previous owner.
And as mentioned, you'll have to replace the battery at some point. Mine is still reasonable, but 3 years are a lot for a battery.

I just upgraded from Hammerhead to Shamu a few months ago. I got a refurbished Nexus 6 on eBay for $200. The device I received was in great condition and I have had zero issues with it. The specs on the Nexus 6 are still good even with newer devices being released. The developer support for Shamu is still active and progressive. I would recommend this device to anyone who knows how to properly use a good phone.
Bought two N6 a year and three months ago, batteries are doing great. AMAZON prime.

It is still a great device. I have brought my N6 back from semi retirement and haven't skipped a beat. $200 is a decent price if the phone is in MINT condition and if it is 64GB. Check for screen burn. Also look at ebay. You might get a 64GB one for $165 or so. YMMV!
Its still very speedy and the display is very beautiful, doesn't feel like a 3 year old phone at all!

Google's os updates are done
Developer interest is waning as everyone moves to 64bit architecture
Screen is not the best AMOLED but isn't bad either (whites are a problem)
the charging port destroys cables
Front camera is just plain horrendous (would matter if you are fan of selfish or whatever it's called )
The power button is wobbly on my refurbished unit
Rear camera has some serious noise issues
Found the dac incapable of handling my higher impedance sennheisers ( my 1+1 pumps out more volume)

The micro usb cables i've used with my nexus 6 start to loosen on the micro usb side i.e. The two pins that have spring action just get depressed and never return? I've used the same cable (identical both were part of the same package high quality steel braided yada yada yda) with my oneplus one and its still pristine. My friend with a nexus 6 also has this happening to his cables. Very minor problem charging and sync still fine. I just like to share even the little incoveniences. Probably not a very prevalent issue either.
Development of roms has definitely stalled these days thats a bigger problem.
