Linux on Android? Anybody got it to work on their Fire? - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody know if the Kernel for the Amazon Fire (5th gen) supports 'loop devices' or how to figure out if it does? My Fire is the 5.0.1 version running RR Rom if hat matters...
The reason I ask this is because I want to install a Linux distro on this tablet. So alternatively has anyone been able to that? If so let me know how you did it please!

I'm curious to slimlp started at 5.1.1 any news welcome

CM12 and G Watch R

Hi folks. I'm getting impatient for Lollipop and was going to flash my rooted Note 3 (n900w8 - the Canadian model) with the latest CM12 nightly build. My only hesitation is that it will screw up Android Wear functionality. Anybody using CM12 with their watch and want to share the experience? Thanks in advance!

Why will you have a problem ? It isn't a gear that won't work anywhere except touchwiz.
That's why I was asking. CM12 is missing some features like NFC. So... Is anyone who is actually using both having any compatibility issues with CM12 and Android Wear?

I've been running CM12 nightlies on my LG G3 since I got the G Watch R and haven't had a problem with connectivity between the two.
Thanks! I've got CM12 installed and everything appears to by syncing fine. Appreciate your feedback.

If you mean stock rom, then yes, if you cant update your tablet via OTA you can manually install it via ADB or using a temporary recovery (search it in xda).

Thanks!
I searched but only found for other models of this tablet, couldn't install it.
i tought you were talking about the me176cx model, the me173cx has no more support or any custom rom avaible to get kitkat/lollipop etc the only rom avaible is a modified rom of android 4.2.2.
Please could someone migrate or do a ROM based in cm12 or cm13 (lollipop or marshmallow) for this tablet??
I'm on original 4.2.2..
Thanks.

If there is an answer to this problem, please share. I have recently acquired a memo Pad 7 HD as well

you shouldnt have bought it, its a very old tablet and this tablet has no support and its impossible to port anything above 4.2.2, since its using a closed source mediatek chipset.

Why do I keep seeing people talk about stock 5.1.1 on the XT1096?

Am I completely missing something? Last I knew 5.1 was the latest OTA on XT1096, not 5.1.1.
5.1.1 would be a custom rom. 5.1 is the latest official.

Exactly, but when the word "stock" is stuck in front of "5.1.1" I'm left like
As far as I know, the fixes from android 5.1.1 were included in the 5.1 update moto provided..
So in a matter of speaking, the moto 5.1 ís android 5.1.1

And you think that because?
It seems to me that if that were the case they wouldn't have called it 5.1.
I think I read it in a thread here, or at another forum.. Don't recall.
I concur, it isn't logical to name it 5.1 instead of 5.1.1... But then again, the combo "Moto" and "making good decisions" isn't really happening at the moment

leanKernel question. Since I'm new, it wont let me post in the dev thread.

Hi all,
So I want to install leanKernel on my Nexus 6 so I can undervolt it, and I don't know which version to go with.
I have stock Android 5.1.1, and stock kernel.
Which version do I flash? lk_shamu_m-v3.0.zip or lk_shamu_lp-v2.14cm.zip, or lk_shamu_lp-v2.14.zip
I checked the FAQ and it doesn't have the info I am looking for. Moreover 3.0 isn't even mentioned.
I assume CM ys for CyanogenMod? But that still leaves me with 2 options.
Thanks guys!
Hello, you must flash lk_shamu_lp-v2.14.zip (lp stand for lolipop)
lk_shamu_lp-v2.14cm.zip (cm stand for cyanogen mod)
lk_shamu_m-v3.0.zip (the "m" stand for Marshmallow)

Android 6 is M (Marshmallow)
Android 5 is LP (Lollipop)
Android 4 is K (Kitkat)
Since you have 5.11, go with the LP version

Final question. Will it be safe to flash SlimRom over this kernel?

Flashing any rom will likely overwrite the kernel with the one provided in the rom. However you can just reflash your kernel after flashing Slim.

Fire OS 5.1.1 - What can(and can't) I do on this version?

After buying it I powered on it and it auto updated to Fire OS 5.1.1.
Looking through XDA it seems like there's no differenciation between 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 for making custom things.
My question is which of these:
-Changing the default launcher (to Nova for example)
-Rooting
-Installing custom ROM
methods are compatible with 5.1.1?
Sorry for the bad english, help is appreciated.

All
5.0.1 allows Fastboot boot which allows custom recoveries to boot
5.1.1 does not but you can flash roms using Flashfire instead after getting Root

5.0.2 You mean 5.0.1
There is no 5.0.2
