Unrooting N920c stuck with odin3 on NAND write start - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there.
I rooted my note 5 and i need now to unroot it. So I used odin with my n920c tar file, and odin is giving me the blue com normally.
Everything is working fine until I press start it start the usual procedure until the NAND write start!! and it stops. I kept it running for an hour but nothing happened.
Can some tell me what Im doing wrong? Maybe because I have twrp recovery.
I thats the case can someone please help me and guide on what to do.
Thanks

Flashing stock rom with Odin is pretty straightforward. Check the integrity of your tar ball (md5 checksum, etc.).

[TUTORIAL][ROM] How to fix your phone and apply the update

I have talked to many people that had issues applying the OTA update. Here are the steps to get your phone back to stock and apply the update.
As always, I'm not responsible for anything. yadda yadda.
First, download http://www.multiupload.com/NMPX3KMWRS
This contains Odin, the Samsung Drivers, stock odin rom, updated odin rom, pit file.
If you don't want to lose your settings, etc. you can skip to the second part. If your phone still doesn't work than start from the top.
-PART 1-
Step 1.) Make sure you have the appropriate drivers installed for your phone. If you are on 64bit then choose 64, if you are on 32 choose 32. You may already have the drivers installed and it will tell you after you try to install them.
Step 2.) Power your phone off
Step 3.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 4.) Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Step 5.) To ensure your phone is back to stock, in odin you will want to check the repartition button. ONLY CHECK IT WHEN YOU ARE FLASHING BACK TO STOCK. Leave the other check boxes the way they are.
Step 6.) Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Step 7.) Click the PDA button and select Original.tar and then click Start
It should go through a bunch of steps and then your phone will reboot. Below are the steps to update it to the latest release.
Close Odin and power your phone off.
-PART 2-
Step 1.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 2.) Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone. You should see a COM message show up in Odin.
Step 3.) Leave all check boxes the way they are. Do NOT check the repartition box.
Step 4.) Click the PIT button and select the 512.pit file
Step 5.) Click the PDA button and select T959UVJI6.tar and then click Start
It will go through a bunch of steps and then your phone will reboot. Congrats, you are on the latest update!
This should be stickied in general so the whole first page isn't taken up with topics about being soft bricked.
When you say updated odin rom, is this the official updated ota that its rolling out now?

Beautiful. Thank you for the post. Will do this later tonight and update the sticky in general. Thank you!
I assume with this method you lose your apps and settings? That's not the case with the ota... I could be wrong.
will this work on a hardware lock phone?

You are correct - the fix with the repartition will wipe all your data, but it actually should not be necessary to flash back to the stock ROM. We resolved this problem on the main thread for this issue earlier today by just using ODIN 1.3 to flash to the JI6 ROM directly. This approach saves all user data and restores the phone directly to the new version without losing any user settings or data.
Edit:
The older thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802828
The solution we found is pretty much identical to the final 5 steps above in the OP post - many of us have executed just those steps to restore without reverting to stock and without losing user data.
Edit 2 - Thanks youneek for updating the instructions with this option
Can I flash over J14 or do I need to revert to stock?
Thank you for this thread. I was able to revert back to stock and flash JI6. I know that it wasn't necessary to go back down to stock but I just wanted to start everything over. It went very smoothly, I actually did it while I was sitting in my night's class lol.
How long?
How long should it take for the first Odin cycle - returning to stock - to take?
Odin 3.1 has been running for at least 15 minutes. ID: COM shows as 0:[COM6]. PIT and PDA are appropriate. The Odin message area reads:
<ID:0/006> Added!!
<ID:0/006> Odin v.3 engine (ID:6)..
<ID:0/006> File analysis..
<ID:0/006> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/006> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
Everything for me took less than 5 minutes.

Entire Odin took me less than 5 minutes last time I did it.
This happened to me the first time I odin'd my phone .... I restarted the phoen and got the Phone--PC error. Just get back to download mode & restart the flash, should work next time through.
Considering what Odin does, it is a very buggy program and is prone to crashes.
Thank you
Easy, breezy, beautiful !!!
The update doesn't wipe the data if you had a stock ROM before that. All my apps and settings are intact after the installation just perfect...
Just have a question: is it ok to root the phone with one-click-root?
Thanks again...

So, if I need to try again, what do I do (besides not turning off my Vibrant)?
I've done the update but now when I try to root the phone again, I get a 'E:cannot open /sdcard update.zip (No such file or directory)' now when I choose re-install packages. I've tried the one click root apk method and the update.zip placed in the directory manually. Nada. Whats the deal?
My directories are labeled D and F when mounted on my pc if it means it's looking for it in E now...

Hi all,
I've read almost every post about the update, but still have some questions so here goes.
I'm on complete stock, untouched. didn't even install clockwirkmod recovery. The ONLY thing I did was root.
I'm out of the US so obviously no OTA for me.
I was wandering if I need to unroot inorder to use the Odin method and wether it is possible to reroot after. Does the update break root, does it have any this to do with it?
Also, is flashing clockwork rec risking anything? Afterall I understand I have to nandroid backup so I need it right?
Thx
BTW, this is my first post (noob) so will be happy to get a bit more than the common nutshell answer since I'm new

i followed these steps but i can't make my phone go into download menu. damn it! the ota taking too long to arrive.
OMG!
This fix the phone!
My phone was bricked by OTA and this method DOES recover my phone back to normal. I could even recover my important DATA!
PS. T-mobile can't recover my data.
Thank you superman in XDA.

Seen that post , but it doesnt say what to do with odin? As in where to load the .tar file etc.
You flash the Modaco kernel via Odin, if your file system isn't ext4 (which it won't be then you may need to manually reboot your phone - My phone still rebooted automatically coming from a rfs file system)
Once your phone reboots it should enter recovery automatically and you just sit back and let CWM backup / covert your file system to ext4 / restore your rom back on to your coverted file system
(I believe there are instance also when you phone does not automatically enter recovery on reboot, in this situation you will need to manually enter recover after flashing the kernel in Odin - to do this you hold down the power button and volume up)
Another thing worth noting, i had encountered an issue during the conversion process where CWM was not able to restore my existing rom, when this happens you can download a ext4 rom (i.e. modaco rom or overcome 1.1.3) and flash the file via CWM - i.e. you can leave the kernel and try another Rom.
Hope this helps.
thanks bendjlee, but how do I use odin? (where to put .tar file which mode should tab be in etc..).

You'll need to put your tab to download mode first before connecting to your computer to odin. Turn on the tab with "volume down" held

ahh, will try it that way , but Im sure I tried that. Do I put phone in debugging mode before I go into download mode?
Download mode is different than recovery and debug. It would display an image of an android with a shovel. That is the mode you need to be in.
Even though the question was asked by someone else, these attempts to answer the question helped solve a similar problem on my side. Thanks!

To Bricked or not to be bricked

Hello all,
I have a sg-n7000. And i was trying to put another rom on it.
I downloaded odin mobile because the pc odin did not past further then ''zimage''.
I selected abys kernel. (i have a lpy kernel on android 4.03. this is ICS?)
after i executed the file, my note restarted. And didn't past the samsung boot screen.
it's still possible to enter download mode & clok workmod recovery v5.8.1.5. (entered by pressing volume up, home and power button)
I went to cwm and selected wipe data. it's still possible to enter cwm and download mode.
But i don't know what to do, to recover to a working phone. At this point it doesn't matter to me if it's going back to stock rom or to custom rom. As long as get's back to live.
Please who can help me.
many thanks

Ok, does it matter which stock rom. because i had the lky kernel.
1. I'm downloading now "N7000XXLPY_N7000XENLP1_XEN.zip" on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
is this a good one?
So long as its stock it shouldnt matter, You should try to get the original one your phone came with, Or as close as possible.
I believe the issue is the kernel, You could try to flash another one before going down the route of restoring to stock.
Give speedmod a try, if it fails to boot still, then flash stock GB

Ok, my note came with gb. And was updated by KIES.
And it has the lpy kernel. I believe this one was a unstable version.
In odin i get this:

<ID:0/004> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/004> zImage
and it hangs on zimage. doesn't more.
What now.
how long has it been stuck like that for ? if anything was to fail it would be datafs or factoryfs. Its weird that its sticking on the kernel.
Have you tried to flash stock kernel in ODIN, and then the firmware on top ?

the first time i used odin, downloaded abys kernel as it would be a safe kernel. It hung for 45 min.
the second time, i downloaded the N7000XXLPY_N7000XXLPT_N7000XENLP1_HOME.tar.md5. And it hung.
And if i'm right i cant put that file on de sd card and install from cwm.

i'm on a different computer without KIES. I installed samsung usb driver.
Ok,
i downloaded the stockrom.
Went to annother pc.
Started odin up.
Selected the downloaded tar file with the pda button.
did select only reboot & reset time.
hit start.
it went further now. But in the end. odin gave a red flashin fault.
Is it now bricked?
Could be a communication error with the device...
As mentioned Hard brick would usually hang on FactoryFS or Data..
Try rebooting your PC
Use an alternate USB port and retry..
Hi all,
Thanx all. I managed to get a gb xxkk5 running on the note.
I went to another computer.
And used odin.
selected:
- pit file (downloaded from here)
- stockrom (downloaded from sammobile)
removed sd card and sim card.
hit start.
Now he is in configure mode of a new samsung account.
Again, thanks.

Can't root or install custom recovery - help?? (Note 4 tmo)

Hi, my N910T cannot be rooted. I tried reverting to NJ7 and flashed cf auto root (right file) and it would fail near the end of the process. I tried on COD6 (build number) and it still wouldn't work. I tried installing a custom recovery, and that failed near the end as well. I tried KingRoot on NJ7 (was slightly worried about KingRoot) and it worked (temporarily.) It said failed around 56% but I used root checker and it said I had root. From there I tried using an app like rom manager to try and install and flash a custom recovery. When I booted into recovery, it said something like "Custom Binary blocked by Reactivation lock," with a yellow triangle. I tried to do it multiple times with different apps, each time having to try to revert back to stock because it would be in a boot loop. I also tried NJ7 and NIH. I fixed the custom binary thing, just want to root/install custom recovery. Can anyone help? Sorry if it was kind of hard to follow, went back and forth from time to time. Anyways, thanks! :silly:
Is your device a T3 version? Did you send it in for repairs?

do this, odin cog2, then odin twrp and do a complete flash by going into wipe, advanced wipe then check everything off except the last one which is external sd card, reboot into your system which may take a few minutes and then try to root afterwards using the cf auto root in teks thread
No I didn't, I did that a couple months ago because the finger scanner broke. I'm certain this is the original n910t not the T3, how would I tell?

"No OS installed" T-Mobile Note 4

Hey everyone,
I hope I posted this in the proper area. I've run into a problem with my Note 4. I wiped it and now if I try to reboot from TWRP, it says theres no OS installed. If I do reboot, it gets stuck on the samsung Note 4 screen.
I need to get this up and running asap. Could someone please help?
I have TWRP 2.8.7.0 installed and I have Odin 3.09 on my desktop. I would really appreciate detailed instructions and download links to anything else I may need so that I can get my Note 4 up and running again.
Thank you.

I would just Odin back to stock firmware if you dont have a backup. you probably wiped the wrong partition or something, I've seen this message before too and that's how I got my phone working again

Nothing unfortunately. Just to be sure I did it right ... I downloaded the kernel zip file in that thread. Transferred it to my sd card, loaded it back onto my phone, went into twrp, hit install, found the zip file and installed it. a few seconds later, it was done. I rebooted. It went to the logo screen again and then it back to TWRP. IDK what to do anymore

So, the COD6 seems to be damaged or something. I couldn't use it. And the ANK4 I already had and still getting a fail.
It's been a long time since this occurred. IDK if this helps but when the phone was still up and running. For some unknown reason, I went to my app drawer and uninstalled/deleted Superuser. Could that be a reason why I'm having an issue flashing my Note 4 back to stock?
Could someone possible send me a backup file from a Note 4 so that I could restore my phone and then factory reset? Maybe that'll get my phone up and running.
YES!!! I fixed it!!! Why didn't anyone tell me that I couldn't flash a stock (kitkat) rom if I had previously updated to Lollipop or Marshmallow? Fortunately, while searching "write fail: aboot" a thread came up and someone mentioned it so I downloaded a marshmallow rom and that was it. I'm up and running now.
